Location a big plus for this hotel. At over £200 per night it’s well overpriced for what it is. It has a spa and pool which was a big reason why we booked this vs other hotels but after booking got a mail about stay advising kids not allowed in pool after 5pm which was around when we arrived. Mailed hotel about this before arrival but no reply. Breakfast ok but not fantastic, service a little slow. No air con in room, tv not great and £25 for over night parking!

It has a spa and pool which was a big reason why we booked this vs other hotels but after booking got a mail about stay advising kids not allowed in pool after 5pm which was around when we arrived. Mailed hotel about this before arrival but no reply. Breakfast ok but not fantastic, service a little slow. No air con in room, tv not great and £25 for over night parking!

Great location for shops, bars & restaurants. Beautiful views of the lake from the bar & breakfast rooms. Only issue is the offsite parking. Could be quite awkward & if you use the hotel site it’s a ridiculous price of £25 per day. Not a great management decision in the tough hotel competition, especially as it is an open car park with just a security barrier. The local car park was just £7.00 per day. Safe & quiet. Felt happy to leave car there for a couple of days

Old style hotel in need of some upgrade but very large room and king bed. Room cleaned daily to a high standard. Good spa facilities but pool was cold due to maintenance issue. Ideally located for shops pubs etc. Only down side £25 per day car parking charge, but not a lot of alternative parking available.

Amazing hotel in a stunning location. Breakfast service was a bit hit and miss with toast and coffees arriving after we had finished eating (25mins after ordered) on the first day all the food was tepid, the pool was excellent for the kids, shame the sauna was not working. Views were stunning, bar staff and porters fantastic, 1 or two maintenance issues but other that that great. Avoid ordering wine in the hotel at £12 - £15 per glass its extremely overpriced.

Arrived at the hotel to be informed the car park was 4 streets away in an open car park. Although it needed a fob to raise the barrier on entry you could just drive at the barrier to exit. As the car park was completely open this was in no way secure. On the subject of the fob, these had to be collected and returned to reception each time you returned with your car, which required driving to the hotel, parking on the street outside, collecting the fob, then drive to parking. Madness. Especially with the hotel advertised as having parking. The £25 parking fee was more expensive than some of the town car parks. Would question what I was paying for??? On to the room. That should never have been a room. A box room at the top of a flight of stairs. Badly fitted door so every person passing or using the stairs could be heard. As this was the main staircase didn’t exactly lead to a relaxing stay. Simple things like tv remote missing. No way of contacting front desk or reception. Resorted to ringing the hotel on mobile. Reception no answer. Walked down to reception. Staff just stood there oblivious to phone call. Asked about the remote. Told they’d check the spare stock and sort it. Nothing further heard on this. The looked to order room service, told to go to bar, fair enough, ordered at the bar. Pizza and Chips. Turned up a while later c 30-40 minutes. Chips fine. Pizza base not cooked. On check in I’d asked about the pool to be told not open hours advertised. CO 2day early!

Lovely and helpful customer facing staff. Breakfast service very slow. Pool was freezing. Car parking provided by hotel at a charge (£25/day), and offsite. We stayed 15 years ago and had left with a much better impression then. We wouldn’t look to return after this visit.

Hotel is in need of refurbishment, old and tired. Bathroom needed good clean mould on tiles. Toiletries very basic for a luxury hotel. Pool area basic, pool temp very cold. Breakfast basic, supplement required for some things like eggs Benedict.

Good things -Clean and quiet hotel located in great central area overlooking the lake. -Room was lovely. -Great breakfast. Bad things - £25 per day for parking in their own car park 5min walk away feels like a rip off. -Over sensitive fire alarm system meaning 1 alarm going off per day of our stay. No real communication from staff, guests were keeping each other updated from the little bits we heard. -Pool was not warm. -Shower was awful. Couldn’t maintain an even temperature and had no overhead shower.

Lovely stay in this hotel. Very attentive and welcoming staff. Used the gym and pool - a shame that the sauna was out of use but both were clean and the staff very helpful. The only downsides were I think the room rate is a little steep considering the lack of choice on offer at the bar (£5.50 for a pint of generic IPA), and generally ever so slightly outdated decor, which feels like it’s from about 20 years ago. And £20 for parking on top must be a huge money-spinner. However, the location is central and superb, which I guess is what a lot of people are looking for.

Great location but the property is in need of a big refurb and deep clean. The rooms were ok and clean but the rest of the hotel was awful, especially considering the price they charge. We had breakfast with a window view overlooking the lake, lovely apart from the dirty windowsill full of dead flies. The window area was full of damp. The service was not great, no plates, warm orange juice. When you are paying nearly £300 b&b I expect a lot more. We won’t be staying again unfortunately.

Bathroom door did not shut at all. The door latch metal was bent and door would not shut. There was a full biscuit on the floor. Some skittles under the bed and hair on the bedding. Felt a bit gross thinking if they were even fresh. Otherwise the hotel is beautiful and location is perfect.

Access to facilities not explained on arrival. Room was to warm, cobwebs around lamp and lighting. Shower hose leaked. Fridge didn’t work so drinks were warm. Location was good.

Our room was very good, clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were way too soft, though - we were glad to get back home to our own bed. The staff were great - immediately fixing any problems we had. Nice pool and steam and sauna The food was excellent, but unfortunately we couldn't get butter with our breakfast - they only had vegetarian spread. The corridor carpets need replacing and we had to go past lots of service/cleaning trolleys permanently lining the corridors, which I don't know if that meets H&S standards, but they could have used one of the empty rooms to keep them in. Overall, we enjoyed the stay

Room had rats in the wall and kept me awake through the night as my wife was terrified . Also hair on the bed when we arrived and dirty sheets . Clearly their housekeeping is poor. Also no night manager or reception after 10 pm only nightporter was available who could not help with anything.

At the Old England hotel the staff were overall good. I was disappointed in the room in that considering the amount charged it was a room in the far recesses of the hotel and involved a lot of going up and down stairs. This was a problem on leaving with our suitcases and for me as a pensioner there on my 70th birthday. We had paid more for a lake view but this was ruined by big blobs of bird poo ruining the view. Surely the cleaning staff could have informed the outside maintenance staff of this when preparing the room for us. Staff did get the poo removed once we had told them but we should not have had to do so. The poo looked as though it had been there a while ! Not impressed by the breakfast either so much so that we did not bother going after our first day. Hence my overall rating of average but it was average rather than poor due to staff making a good impression.

Stayed for 1 night in a room overlooking the lake … Beautiful view but the room was very tired and needs updating. ( see pictures ) Old furniture which is worn away - headboard worn away - window needs repairing. Word of warning parking is £25 !!!! Not a secure car park as barrier rises on exit so anyone could exit with your car … Breakfast was ok - not sure why some items on the menu are a £5 supplement … seems steep when you’re paying premium price already. Overall an OK Hotel - paying for the Hotel being in the middle of Bowness not the facilities as they need a refurb

Hotel was old fashioned which would be fine, however the room phone socket was broken, as was the bathroom door, which scraped the tiles and wouldnt close, the room service food took over an hour to arrive and then had missing items, which when offered replacements never arrived. The location is great but overall the hotel needs a major refurbishment and we wouldnt stay there again. Many other options that we would try first.

Room was old, dark and dated, view of a back alleyway. Very basic facilities, poor quality of breakfast and a rude member of staff. Not value for money at all.

Room was a good size, limited tv for price but clean & tidy. Staff in the breakfast area lacked training and supervision. Service was slow and awful, buffet style not what I would want or expect from a hotel at this pice range! Parking at £25 per night! Didn’t pay it. I’m fortunately we couldn’t get a lake view room, which would have been ok as the view from the over priced bar was lovely, unfortunately the room allocated to us was just above the loading bay with delivery’s coming and going all day. Very disappointing!

Booked a deluxe room. The window was a velux window so despite being allocated a lake view, you can’t see this as the window is in the roof.. Thick layer of dust on top of the bed. No amenities other than shower gel in bathroom. Breakfast was rather chaotic. Have to wait for server to seat you at your table which took a while. We ordered drinks which never came. Telephone for room service/ reception didn’t work. As others have mentioned, you would assume that it would be documented that the car park is not actually on site, you have to park on double yellows outside the hotel, run in through the tourists to give your details and pay then drive off site to the car park. £20 a day for parking on top of paying for a deluxe room is poor in my opinion especially when said car park is just gravel. Wi-Fi poor. I think the above shouldn’t be overlooked just because of the location / view.

We had a nice room with a great view on the 2nd floor in the main part of the building. We requested a room change as the extention to the hotel has no lift & we were originally given a room on the lower ground floor. The change was made possible by Aura on reception who was very helpful. The room has a lovely bathroom, comfy bed, iron/ironing board & a fan in the bedroom, there is no air-conditioning or fridge in the room. Unfortunately we found breakfast lacking, the service was good but the continental choice was limited & the cooked breakfast/drinks were lukewarm & average at best. Overall we had a nice stay the hotel is clean with friendly helpful staff but the hotel looks tired & would benefit from replacement carpet's & terrace furniture.

The room was spacious and clean, it was way too hot-the noise from the kitchen below was unbearable, constant droning from there and deliveries start at 6am, 2 nights without sleep isnt good. First day breakfast was incorrect and inedible, second day despite asking twice we we didnt even get breakfast - a pot of tea turned up made with cold water, how can you get it so wrong?? One guy with short grey hair and glasses deserves credit as he was the only one who looked like he wanted to work there. Avoid at all costs.

Very disappointed with service. We arrived 1.30pm but told couldn’t get into our until after 4. Fine, but they made us check in then and pay for parking. When paying for parking, we were asked if cash or card. We paid by card to then be interrupted by another woman on reception saying it needed to be by card. Told her we’ll pay by cash as per the initial question. We came back at 4.10pm and there was a huge queue. The receptionist took way too long to check people in. By 4.30 we were in our room and changed quickly to use spa facilities. We went down to spa reception and were told that the pool was at maximum and we couldn’t go in. No mention of this at all when checking in upstairs. We were told we could wait or go back to room and they would call. We said absolutely not as others were coming in wanting to use facilities as well. All the time, all they did was check a monitor. We waited 10 mins for someone to come out and the lady on reception was going to allow others in before us, so we had to step in. When we eventually got into pool, we counted and there were less than 10 in the whole spa facilities. The pool was freezing cold, sauna not hot at all, steam room took ages to put any steam out, and the shower wasn’t working. Complete waste of money. On top of this, the staff were extremely rude. From reception, to spa to the woman serving us breakfast in the morning. All extremely miserable and made you feel like every request was a chore to them. Extremely disappointed

I would love to give this hotel a 5 star review as I had the best time and would definitely go back. It’s a stunning building in an ideal area (except the nearby clubs- it’s a bit lively at night which I wasnt expecting) But, breakfast was a real disappointment. Long queues (we gave up one day and paid to eat out) and not the best quality of full English. Dinner was lovely- except the receptionist I called to book us in with forgot to make our reservation on both nights so struggled to get a table the second night. There were a few system problems which I think left reception a bit overwhelmed. All but one was super helpful. The one that was a bit surly and rude just needs to watch her manners a little. Other than a few small moans I adored the hotel and will definitely be back

In my opinion, the hotel has beautiful landscapes, excellent location, and the swimming pool was perfect. However, the reception staff was extremely rude to us, I arrived to the Hotel to ask for information about the parking (because you have to pay £20 per night), in front of me there was a lovely British couple, and the receptionist was giving them all the information needed in a very nice way when my turn came, he changed his mood and treated me in a very different way (for the record, I'm a mexican girl). A few hours later, my husband asked him for some information about the restaurant and his answer was not the proper answer from a receptionist, he was very rude. I also saw that an indian woman asked him something, and she got upset at the way he replied to her. It seems this receptionist was only gentle to the British people and he was not happy to attend people from other parts of the world, also, it is clear that he is not even a British man. To be honest, I don't think I will come back to this hotel.

Staff on reception was beyond helpful, food was astonishing having breakfast, afternoon tea and an evening meal in the hotel restaurant and all the food was the highest quality with fantastic hosts and waiting staff. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Beautiful views from the room, the lounge, the restaurant and the outdoor seating areas overlooking the lake. Overall a breathtaking area with the hotel complimenting the area incredibly well. Spa treatments to top off the weekend away. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Just a few things to be aware of. This hotel is quite expensive to book, and it’s a little cheeky they charge an Additional cost for parking, £25 for the night. It does not have aircon so is quite warm. The food and drink are overpriced. (Recommend going elsewhere) However, it is a lovely hotel and you can’t beat the location

The hotel is situated perfectly to walk around Bowness. It was really clean and our room whilst elements are older / a bit dated, looked like had not long been redecorated so felt lovely. Breakfast was brought to your table, with a view of the lakes. Can’t fault it. Would go again.

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. Our room had a beautiful view over the lake, really good sized room. The bed was so comfy we had the best night sleep we’d had in ages! All staff we came into contact with were really friendly despite how busy they were. Perfect place as just a walking distance to all the attractions at Windermere. Great stay. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely stay . The location is beautiful overlooking the lake. The room was big and nice although quite dark as the window was quite small . Spa good but not much choice only 2 steam rooms and swimming pool. Nice seating on the balcony from spa. Breakfast was good although the portion was quite small . That is my husband opinion 😄. The only thing I didn't like was to pay £25 for parking. I think it is quite a lots a specially that the hotel is not cheap . So when you spend £200 for room you not expecting this .

Turned up, welcoming staff. Lovely big room and the most comfortable bed with excellent quality bedding. An amazing position on the edge of Windermere. Walking distance to shops, pubs, restaurants and access to boat rides on the lake. The hotel was full of character a real gem.

The hotel's location is superb - with a great view over Windermere and within walking distance of restaurants, pubs and tings to do. While in need of investment, the room we had was clean and in good condition and the restaurant was too. The swimming pool and leisure facilities were very good. Some staff were excellent and very friendly but a few were less so/

The family room was good and the kids loved the bunk beds. But the room was at the front of the property and so was pretty noisy even on a Sunday. Breakfast in the morning was tasty with a good view over the lake. We didn't park in the hotel car park but on Glebe Road which was a fifth of the price.

Breakfast service was a bit hit and miss with toast and coffees arriving after we had finished eating (25mins after ordered) on the first day all the food was tepid, the pool was excellent for the kids, shame the sauna was not working. Views were stunning, bar staff and porters fantastic, 1 or two maintenance issues but other that that great. Avoid ordering wine in the hotel at £12 - £15 per glass its extremely overpriced.

Hotel is in need of refurbishment, old and tired. Bathroom needed good clean mould on tiles. Toiletries very basic for a luxury hotel. Pool area basic, pool temp very cold. Breakfast basic, supplement required for some things like eggs Benedict.

Our room was very good, clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were way too soft, though - we were glad to get back home to our own bed. The staff were great - immediately fixing any problems we had. Nice pool and steam and sauna The food was excellent, but unfortunately we couldn't get butter with our breakfast - they only had vegetarian spread. The corridor carpets need replacing and we had to go past lots of service/cleaning trolleys permanently lining the corridors, which I don't know if that meets H&S standards, but they could have used one of the empty rooms to keep them in. Overall, we enjoyed the stay

The views make this hotel but its dated and the windows need cleaning. Breakfast took over 15 minutes to be shown to our seat and the fruit and pastries were empty and no glasses with very little juice. Breakfast was delivered ok but not the best. I dont like giving bad reviews but value for money it rates a 4/10. Also £25 to park which is overpwiced as well.

Room was a good size, limited tv for price but clean & tidy. Staff in the breakfast area lacked training and supervision. Service was slow and awful, buffet style not what I would want or expect from a hotel at this pice range! Parking at £25 per night! Didn’t pay it. I’m fortunately we couldn’t get a lake view room, which would have been ok as the view from the over priced bar was lovely, unfortunately the room allocated to us was just above the loading bay with delivery’s coming and going all day. Very disappointing!

I was sceptical about this hotel after reading some of the other reviews after we had booked, however we found the hotel to be great in every single way from the helpfulness of the staff, to the breakfasts, central location, room size, great job by the cleaning staff and the Spa and Pool. Definitely looking forward to staying again.

A wee bit disappointed with this hotel. Not terrible, but will not leave me thinking how beautiful everything was. Very tired and in need of an update. Location is brilliant so it could be fantastic with a bit of TLC

Check in is at 4. That's if your rooms ready, as ours wasn't so had to wait about with our case in the bar. Not good enough

The property was very nice and the location was great but we had a room that had no window. With no air conditioning and being as warm as it was the room was very stuffy. We had to keep the door to the hall open to get air. There was a sky light but it was raining so we could not keep it open. Breakfast was very good. Access to the pool was only allowed if you were going to swim. We wanted to see it before committing to a swim and that wasn’t allowed. The parking lot wasn’t too far from the hotel but it was a bit expensive.
