Historic hotel in downtown Des Moines. Area is decent. Parking is a pain as the hotel charges $33/night and the other options are street parking or a garage.

Love the quality and high end feel to the room and common areas. There is a nice parking garage down close by that has a hallway joining directly to hotel without having to step outside. It’s not free but 10$ a day is a lot cheaper than valet! Our favorite hotel per dollar, awesome breakfast /coffee place at Hob Nob! Haven’t had a chance to try the restaurant or speakeasy unfortunately. Will come back whenever we’re in area, thanks again for great experience

Renovated hotel with a lot of history - comfortable rooms, updated bathrooms, great gym, with 2 dining options. Located in a central area - walkable to downtown area. Staff was friendly and helpful.

would have appreciated a better description of parking options nearby. the valet service was very high priced, given the availability of much cheaper parking in the Nationwide garage.

Lobby was left messy after crowds moved out making it difficult to use the shared space. The Hobnob bar was clean, welcoming and an amazing experience. the room was clean enough but the bedding has some small stains and the shower door was in good shape. There is not a fan in the bathroom and the small king bed room could use some privacy with close proximity to the bed. Overall it was okay just didn't leave up to expectations from the renovated property. The back garage elevator not working is also difficult with luggage if not using valet.

The hotel has been redone beautifully. There were so many thoughtful touches to honor its history. The fitness room was great too. My only complaint is that there wasn't a full length mirror unless you moved all of the towels in the bathroom, but that was just a small inconvenience. I definitely want to try the speakeasy next time!

If you have the chance to stay at this hotel, I would! It is amazing! So beautiful inside and the gym is amazing!

This hotel is so cool. It was the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in and probably the most unique. The quality of every aspect of the hotel was just amazing. I will definitely choose to stay here again if I am ever in Des Moines.

Really nice historic hotel in downtown. Good value for the price. On a quiet street with not much to walk around and do. Carpet was dingy and stained. Housekeeping showed up once the 3 nights we were there to see if we needed anything. It wasn’t explained to us at check in that we wouldn’t get service unless asked for so wondered where they were all weekend. My daughter thought the front desk person was rude but I just thought he was ok and just disinterested. Overall, I would stay there again.

Room was dirty. Bathroom was dirty. Room made a humming noise all night. Room service breakfast was messed up twice. Eggs barely cooked. Air conditioning didn’t work

We love staying at Hotel Fort Des Moines. Its downtown location is within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. This time we stayed in a corner king room and it was very nice. We had a lovely view of the city. The bed was super comfortable and we didn’t hear anything from our neighbors. The bathroom was relatively large and the shower pressure was great. It was slightly bothersome that the shower drained slowly, so that I was standing in about an inch of water by the end of my shower. Also the hot and cold faucet was reversed in the bathroom sink. Neither of these was a big deal and we will definitely stay again!

One of my favorite spots when visiting Des Moines. The rooms are cozy with stylish décor, the beds and linens are always comfortable, and the big fluffy towels and large showers are a bonus. Highly recommend!

Staff and facility was top notch. Only complaint would be water pressure on the 11th floor showers could have been better.

Hotel and property was absolutely breathtaking! The staff was super friendly upon arrival and check-in was easy. My only complaints (and they are very minor) is that the room wouldn't get as cold as we like, and the pillows were too soft. Other than that, it was fantastic!

Overnight parking was just $10. That is almost unheard of for any hotel. Room was beautiful. Terrible view but that was ok.

Bed was super stiff and why wouldnt you put an exhaust fan in a bathroom

We only stayed one night but loved this hotel. Neat decor, comfy bed and lots of space in our king room.

The hotel was very nicely restored from a last-century hotel. I was disappointed however, with the shower. The water pressure in my 9th floor room was so low that I had difficulty washing shower gel off. This seems like a relatively simple thing to fix in an otherwise very nice facility.

Everything was good with the exception of waiting for the valet (3rd party company) when we wanted to get our car parked.

Beautiful lobby and rooms. Very comfortable and clean.

We came to see a Burton Cummings concert and I wanted to stay at a classy place for my wife who is in a wheelchair. The staff was kind, anticipated our needs, and when I asked for directions as to where I could go in town to buy some yogurt for my wife so she could take her medicines the person at the front desk stepped into a back room and handed me two mini yogurts complementary. It’s like they live in the moment to provide hospitality

We called Customer Service 4 times to get basic items as clean towels finally they were provided after 8:30pm. The excuse was they were too busy. I believe the hotel is under staffed - for the 5 nights we stayed our sheets were never changed. I do not recommend this hotel until they manage their services properly. They need stop offering rooms if they can't provide basic services. Poor staff they are overworking them!

Showed up for a late checkin and they had to reservation for me and blamed everyone but their new system that was obviously the issue. Finally a manager showed up and gave us a room they had closed up for repair. I paid almost $300 to be left stranding in the lobby for over an hour after a long day. What a joke. ive been treated better at $50 motel 6s.

I absolutely loved my two night stay at Hotel Fort Des Moines. The hotel itself was magnificent, my room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. I enjoyed the cafe several times and wished I would have been able to try the restaurant. All the staff I interacted with were so friendly, helpful and very professional. I will definitely be staying here again next time I’m in Des Moines.

Place is fine, check-in person was short with us and ruined our whole experience. We were so excited to stay and valet/bellman was so nice and fun, but once we made it to front desk it was over. Sad that one person could ruin our experience.

Outstanding property and staff!

The hotel was very nice. The complaint was a big one though. We got there to check in at 4pm. We had been at the fair on a hot day. We were excited to take a quick nap and showers before needing to head back for the concert. They told us our room was “not quite ready” and it should just be “a couple minutes”. The waiting area started filling up with frustrated guests also not able to check in. We were right in front of the desk and waited 45 minutes, I finally went up and told them we were not happy we would not have time to shower and get to our concert, and he checked the computer and said “Oh, your room is actually ready. Who knows how long it had been. They offered nothing for our inconvenience, not even a free coffee at their coffee shop. The room was nice but we were only in it to sleep as we had to leave early the next morning so had no time to enjoy it before the concert.

Staff was exceptional!

The old hotel has been updated in a delightful way. The location is great for walking in the downtown area. It's close to a couple of great music venues as well as a sculpture park. On street and garage parking. Excellent (though pricey) restaurant onsite.

We booked a room at the Hotel Fort Des Moines specifically to be able to walk to the Hoyt Sherman for a concert. It was perfect! The room was welcoming - literally. When we walked in, the television greeted us with a personal message on the screen. Everything was impeccable and the parking garage was right across the street. Highly recommend!

The hotel was beautiful, clean and nice staff. It took us 30 mins to get our car from valet which made us late to dinner. They were very understaffed for valet. The man was working hard, but there was just too much for him to do. The hotel was very loud. We were woken up several times by night trains, dumpsters being unloaded and other loud street noises.

I have stayed many times in Des Moines. This hotel is beautiful. The valet staff were incredible. The location is perfect.

Very nice historic hotel. Excellent facility. Location is somewhat isolated for walkable activities and restaurants. $33 valet parking in Des Moines, Iowa seems excessive.

A beutifully maintained hotel in a historic building. I loved this hotel. I also dined at the bar in the restaurant and the food and drinks were excellent. I highly recommend staying here.

Can’t say enough about the dining options on property. The café coffee is some of the best I’ve ever had. The mac & cheese there is to die for. And the daily happy hour at the upscale restaurant was also amazing. Staff was amazing and I certainly will never stay anywhere else in Iowa.

Over all stay was great. Morning dining left a poor ending experience; dining was either understaff or under trained.

Characterful Hotel that was well-renovated in 2019. Big rooms with a new-old feel. Comfortable beds. Nice hotel bar, and food is quite good. Breakfast included is a shambles, though. You have to ask for a voucher, and the restaurant is confused how to treat it, especially if you have multiple people in your room. I bought with included breakfast and they still charged me breakfast.

I really liked the vintage look of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and very nice. My only complaint is that breakfast is an extra charge and a bit overpriced.

We just completed a three night stay and were very pleased with this property! The nods to history throughout were so well done, the beds and pillows were excellent, and we loved the custom Curio scent in the lobby! Hobnob restaurant was a great go-to for breakfast. We didn’t get to the larger restaurant or the speakeasy on this trip, but hope to do so on our next visit. (Yes, we already booked our next stay.) Thanks for a great visit to Des Moines!

The entry was is gorgeous. The rooms are nice and updater. The restaurant has a pretty limited menu. They have a wine menu but no liquor menu. I tried 3 different scotches and when I got the bill 1/4 of a calls of Glenfiddich 18 year was $45, another 18 year I never heard of was $28 and a 1/3 glass of Johny walker blue was $95. I was shocked by my bill for a filet on top of mash potatoes was $/75 with tips figured in and such a small filet and the drinks. It would have been nice to have a liquor menu ahead of time. I wasn’t planning of a $600 stay for one night with a Ming too and just some food. On and $33 to have them park my vehicle in a safe location for one night. It’s a great hotel. But if you want something nice for one night I’d stay elsewhere as the prices were out of control. I probably won’t stay here again. But I’d you do just make sure you have plenty of funds to so. And if you a friend coming by to say hey. You must meet them i the lobby. Or have them registered at the front desk. Otherwise they are t getting into the elevator to come see you. As you have to a key to use the elevator. You must sara. It first and the lush your floor number or you are trapped. Hence the reason to meet your guest outside or in the lobby. If you put them on your reservation just to come see you they have to present ID and other items. I guess it’s good security. Or it’s just annoying I sis enjoy my stay but they charge for everything Check out on time or you will be charg

My stay could not have been nicer - I had dinner both nights in the main restaurant and both meals, and the service, were perfect! Your entire staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating - it was a perfect stay! Many thanks!!
