Strawberry Fields

We were traveling with 3 adults and 8 suitcases. What I did not appreciate was not being made aware that we would be hauling 8 pieces of luggage up and down 62 stairs twice a day each day for the 4 days we stayed. The room was fine, the stairs took quite a toll on the group.

My room it was so small...not like on the picture i saw when i did the reservation. I didn't like sharing the toilet....nothing specified about this on reservation page....it was a very unlikeled surprise. Very disappointed 😞

Do not stay at the Strawberry Hotel. This was a truly awful and misleading experience. The booking process was dishonest, as I was only told about the shared bathroom after my payment of £110 was non-refundable. The hotel itself is in terrible condition; the floors are so uneven that my bed felt like it was breaking, and a large gap under the door meant I had zero privacy. The shared bathroom was also unsanitary and smelly. Worst of all were the serious security issues. The reception staff were unprofessional and asked for my credit card, then wrote the details down out of my sight. On top of that, staff entered my room without knocking and even entered while I was away, which was a huge breach of privacy given I had expensive belongings with me. The only positive is the location, just a minute from the beach and a 20-minute walk to the train station. However, this does not make up for the terrible condition, unprofessional staff, and lack of security. This hotel is not worth the money or the risk.

The room and public areas were overall in very good condition and clean. The bathroom showed a few signs of wear but nothing to affect the stay. The room was fairly basic but I appreciated the en suite. The staff were very helpful and polite. Parking isn't all that straightforward. Street parking is tight, or alternatively you can use Chapel Street car park which I wouldn't recommend to nervous drivers due to some tight spots and corners entering and exiting the facility.

The room was awfull very small.. with a sink in the room. Couldn’t open the window and it was very uncomfortable. The hallway had steps and this room was on 4th floor without any lift. We cut short our trip by one night as the room was digressing. Not recommending.

This was an okay hotel in a good location for what i needed. I got a room with a bathroom thank goodness because the communal ones looked miserable. The bathroom was very small, especially the shower. The WiFi was bad and fluctuated between unusable and barely there. It got the job done though and it was cute.

The staff are friendly and polite and the room was nice and clean. I liked the housekeeping as it provided new fresh towels and complimentary tea and coffee sachets, etc. There was no lift but overall I was happy with the booking. The booking was easy and it was easy to check out-no issues at all.

We initially checked into a room but as we opened the door it stank of stale smoke. We went straight to the reception and they switched our room with no fuss. Thankfully the second room was absolutely fine! Shared bathroom, which we knew upon booking, but there are actually lots of toilets and showers dotted around the property so if one is busy, it doesn’t take much to find the next one. Decent price for Brighton, and incredible views from the attic room!

Very grubby. Filthy stained carpet. Pathetic towels and blanket when requested. I’d give it 2 out of 10 I’d like a refund as price was exhorbitant

The property was in the basement and they’re idiot they don’t let you know anything until you went there until all the room is on the basement and you can’t even breathe everywhere was mould

Mess on staircase for the entire stay bathroom door wouldn’t close broken flush , extractor fan didn’t work no hook on bathroom door long hairs on tiles no wardrobe as shown in picture plus the bed was uncomfortable and very noisy when you moved around to get comfortable and the main door handle was not screwed to the door plus hairs in other bed apart from that I would highly recommend you don’t stay there

Best thing - location- perfect. Close to shops, centre and beach, with a garden square outside. Staff at check in desk, friendly. And good value if you book in advance. Note that the building is old and tall - so if you will struggle getting your heavy bags up flights of stairs, think again. My room was small, but clean, with tea and coffee. Our stay was coloured by the fact we were there in a brief bur fierce heatwave. My room was unbearably hot, there was little ventilation, and no fans, and being high in the building it was roasting. Also, only the main light worked, neither of the smaller lights worked. The shower was v close to the bed and the door wouldn't stay shut unless you wedged it, so bedding got wet.

Cheap and cheerful,it’s ok for yourself but I wouldn’t take the wife or family there. Single room you can’t swing a cat

I am going to be conpletly honest- The room we were gievn was nothing, and I mean nothing like the photos, I did see other rooms, and they were nicer, but the room we were given, which we paid £187 for one night for, was a box room, it was like a prison cell, and we ddint have our own toilet, for nearly £200 for a single night! You would expect a toilet. The bed was actually very comfortable, there was a shoeer in the room, but as I mentioned, it was a box room, the walls are very very thin so you can hear others talking...and other activties, were all there for a good time, so that didnt bother me, what really annoyed me was how the room was advertised and what we got, its a lot to pay for such a small dissapointing room, BUT it was convient, location was great, could see the sea, but I think the price we were charged was a joke. The staff let us keep our stuff there, but wernt very welcoming, they told us to be quiet when we were only talking to each other. If the room was half the price, I would definitely stay again.

It was ok, room didn’t look like the pictures, the blind didn’t work so was unable to close blinds, the screws fell out the door handle so had to be carful with that, window didn’t open either so the room was very humid. Bed comfy and staff friendly

The springs were so bad on the matress, I didn't sleep. We wouldn't check in until 16:00, and by 08:00 we had vacated the premises. I spoke to a member of staff before I left and expressed my disappointment. I didn't receive any correspondence at all. I was in room 11. Unfortunately I couldn't recommend this property and wouldn't stay there afain. The room needs a revamp big time.

Nice room, but woken every morning by slamming doors & loud creaky floors. People leaving early for work very loud and noisy. A fridge would have been a bonus. The heating was good. Asked for extra blankets and duvet but none spare. Beds quite hard not very comfortable however nice spacious room.

Terrible ! I was not able to check in.. After communication with the hotel to tell them i had added an extra day I drove 4hrs, arrived around 10.30pm, showed my confirmation email and business debit card that i had prepaid the bookings with and the porter would not book me in as i did not have any photo id.. I explained both my passport and drivers license were sent away last week for renewal and i had stayed many times over last 20 years and never had a problem before and was genuine business traveller but he wouldn't help me at all and said manager was not available so i had to book into another hotel with reception staff that can use there common sense.. I told him his boss probably wouldn't be happy losing £200 prepaid booking.. very unhappy with the poor unhelpful service.. used to like this place.

Lovely little place, very clean, friendly staff with every interaction, had a very minor issue with the main light when we checked in but fixed within minutes, would definitely stay again.

Checking out could not have come soon enough!! 1 night stay in a sea view double. The surfaces of the old furniture in the room were sticky/grubby. TV did not work and staff were not able to help/very unhelpful. No hairdryer in the room as described. Shower ineffective and old/full of limescale. Lots of local druggy people hung around the area/outside hotel so did not feel safe at all.(class A druggies) Woken in the night to a fight outside on the street. NEVER AGAIN WILL I STAY HERE!! £66 totally wasted. Hope this review helps you to make your mind up. (£17.50 parking outside hotel) I informed staff of issues at check out and was reassured the Manager would contact me later that day. No contact was made.

Avoid! The receptionist claimed the hotel clearly stated ID was needed to check in, but could not show anywhere on the booking / check in information where this was written. Completely unacceptable to charge for a room but then refuse to let a customer stay due to a condition that they kept entirely secret from the customer. Very rude / condescending receptionist.

When I arrived at check-in I was told that I had turned up on the wrong day and that there were no rooms available. The person on reception checked the booking on their computer and said that I was a day early. I showed them my booking confirmation and proved that it was their mistake and then miraculously a room became available. The room itself was not too bad, the lock on the door was a little fiddly, and the room could have benefited from a few little touch ups with some paint here and there. The bed was comfortable, the shower was okay and the room was fairly quiet. The price was a little on the high side but that was probably because of the fact that the Women’s Rugby World Cup was being played in Brighton that weekend. The location was perfect for where I was going that night and I would probably consider staying there again.

On arrival we were met by reception staff who read us the rules like a robot. The room was so basic for £145.20 a night we wasn’t expecting a cheap thin mattress, the bed was on a slant which felt like you was heavy headed as your legs were higher then your head. The shower was not cleaned the grout had orange mould in and the sink had limescale all around the plug hole. Not acceptable Broken shutter blinds which let loads of light in. Stains on the carpet Bed side Lights to high from the bed out of reach Tv in a poor position The main fire door was non compliant due to the massive gaps around the door. We had no sleep what so ever as people were so loud talking on the steps on the property outside. This happened on two occasions for hours around 1am and 3am. In the end we opened the blinds and asked them to leave. Cheap bed We spoke with reception in the morning and were told we should have rung the emergency line. No apology nothing. The emergency line we were told to call seems to be a person on site but not on reception possibly asleep. We left but returned as we wasn’t happy with the outcome. And spoke to the same man who could have handled this situation better it seemed like it was our problem and he didn’t want to help. So we have asked to hear from the manager and await his response. Location was perfect but we will definitely not be returning back here. Poor room quality not worth £145

Our room was available earlier than expected and they kindly let us in. The room was comfortable and warm. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided. Location was central and convenient.

Druggies arguing outside at 3am, windows so thin you could hear every word. Light above sink in bathroom didn't work, neither did extractor fan. kept awake by people upstairs, 3am to 5am, how thin are the floors?? When we arrived the front door glass was being replaced as someone had smashed it in, classy.

A very typical style for an English Pensionat. Has got the basics and is a good choice for just spending the night in. Location is within walking distance of the city centre, but a stone throw away from the Brighton Pier and the sea with the whole seafront is just outside the main entrance door.

This hotel is misrepresented by the photos of strawberry toiletries and colourful decor on their website. Hotel is tired looking, noisy drunks shouting in the garden opposite. Plus points: walkable distance to pier, no breakfast at hotel but close to eateries nearby.

Room was clean and comfy enough bed for the night when drunk, it’s quite different from the pictures and didn’t clearly state when booking check in was at 4pm and it’s said that there’s a beach viewing me and my partners room didn’t, also a lot of stairs to walk up as we were on the top floor also the hotel felt like it was very tilted especially the stairs! Didn’t get shown to our room and was made to carry our own bags upstairs even though dropping of luggage early! It seems more like a bed and breakfast just without the breakfast and checkout is really early at 11am overall not bad place to stay if your just needing a cheap ish place to stay for the night like me and my partner!

We were in room E in the basement, our room was in need of maintenance, the fan extractor in the bathroom didn't work, which I reported to reception as well as the light above the mirror . As our room was near the main entrance we had to suffer noisy guests smoking on the stairs and throwing their cigarette butts outside our open window. We went to the hotel next door for breakfast.

One of the best of Brighton’s cheap and cheerful hotel stays. No frills but nicer than some of the others, plus the local area has good places to eat - and supermarkets for real budget dining. It’s not the Pellirocco but fine as a bed for the night.
