On arrival Large gravel car park to the rear not great for suitcases with wheels and a £15 per day charge. The hotel reception certainly has that bistro feel the decor and area itself is very well looked after and not tired looking We stayed in the annex which is a 30 second walk from reception our room was called brown brothers …very clean with a comfortable bed and a large tv, iron, hair dryer, free safe, tea and coffee the bathroom was excellent, the shower was superb. Had a drink in the bar area a little on the pricey side no draught beer, At breakfast there’s a selection of cereals and fruit, toast etc the main part of your breakfast is from the menu the large English breakfast was excellent 9/10 from me. York centre is about 15-20 min walk the train station is a 10 min walk I wouldn’t normally add photos to a review I should of took these on arrival not departure A special to mention for the reception and restaurant staff … 10/10

Nicely decorated historical building. Good location to visit city centre. Some limitations for accessibility to the property. The parking area is all gravel which would be difficult to navigate your luggage if you are not able to carry what you had.

Great location. Signature suite was very nice. His and hers baths to relax and watch tv. Huge shower. Great loft room. Hotel bar, and areas outside to drink and relax were very well kept and nice and spacious. Overall- the hotel was in a great location, had a very unique and boutique feel- and the staff were very professional and welcoming

Hotel in a great location - 10 minutes walk to the railway station, 20 minutes to the centre of York. Staff all friendly and helpful. Great idea to offer guests the option of bar voucher instead of daily housekeeping.

Check in service was appalling, no welcome she was rude. Just managed to park in the car park as it was full, didn’t get told it was £15 to park at a hotel that was over £200pn, not what I’d expect and she just plonked the card machine in front of me with no explanation. The room had a massive cobweb hanging from the ceiling, lighting was too dark. Bathroom sink had a massive crack in it, but it was comfortable. Nowhere to relax in the bar as there was a wedding reception with loud guests getting merry, I wasn’t aware that there was going to be a wedding reception, nor that it would be in the main bar. Breakfast was good. Overall a waste of money and wouldn’t recommend staying there, nor wish to return.

Had a lovely stay at the hotel.Staff were friendly and helpful the room was spotlessly clean and comfortable,bath was amazing and there were some very much appreciated finishing touches like a coffee machine, bottled water and bathrobes :).Location was great just a short walk into the centre.Would definitely stay at this hotel if we visit york again 😀

Good location but we had to ask for a room clean due to the black hair in the bathroom and over the carpet in the bedroom. The bathroom door didn't fully close. We kept the curtains closed as there was a balconey opposite that looked in, and when someone walked overhead the floor creaked- a lot (age of property) Where the hotel shines are the reception, bar and (especially) the breakfast and restaurant staff. Friendly, informative and efficient. Both breakfast and an evening meal were delicious. We managed to park at the hotel and despite there being a wedding we were not bothered by party noise.

Lovely hotel in a perfect location for walking into York and being able to leave the car at the hotel. Shower was leaking quite badly and had been for a while as the floor was black in parts due to this. Otherwise the room was clean and comfortable

Room wasn't ready when we arrived and wasn't cleaned one evening when we got home. Reception staff apologetic and very helpful, not their fault at all, but none the less. Room was clean but lights seemed to flicker constantly, an access hatch to the bath plumbing popped open at some point and wouldn't close – housekeeping also seemed to fail to fix it. Stay was fine overall, but I was perhaps expecting a little more given this was a special treat staying somewhere fancied than I'm used to!

Check-in was met with an aggressive hard sell on trying to get you to pay to upgrade your room. Was over the top and not good. First room had an unclean bathtub, so we moved to another room which was better but also had trash on the floor and a lot of maintenance issues including a shower handle that spins in your hand so very hard to use, a bed that will destroy your back as has zero support, along with lumpy pillows. One of the bathroom lights was out so was dark in the bathroom. This should have been caught when cleaning the room! The ventilation system had issues so you were either freezing or sweating. That sucked. Don't bother going to the restaurant if you are gluten free. While they do take a lot of care to let you know what is GF and not, their offering for those of us who NEED GF is poor at best. We opted to eat elsewhere. Luckily the staff in the restaurant are great, or we would have given the hotel 2 stars. Jasmine in the bar is a superstar! All said, I cannot and would not recommend this hotel. Had good past experiences with the Hotel du Vin brand, but this one left us wondering if we can trust the brand.

Very nice hotel, amazingly friendly staff, but the noisiest pipe work I’ve ever had in a hotel. When upstairs flushed the toilet, I thought water was coming through the ceiling. Room was also small and basic for a £150 a night hotel. Apart from that, it was great.

Lovely hotel, well kept and good service. Stayed in a deluxe room, spacious and everything as you’d expect. Only critique would be that the bed was two singles pushed together with a noticeable gap in the middle rather than the advertised “super king”. The room was also adjacent a stairwell which was quite noisy at times and adjoining what I assume was a staff area and also quite noisy.

Good central location.Very friendly helpful staff and excellent breakfast. The only downside was our room was on the front and there was a lot of traffic noise early in the morning. Also the shower was over the bath and due to the height of the bath and the position of the shower screen it was difficult to get in and out of the shower. We stayed in ‘Geof Merrill room.

Perfect weekend made even more special by the excellent team. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is really well located a short walk from the train station and all the sites of York. It is super comfortable, A cosy home from home. Rooms were really well appointed with super comfy bedding. Our stay was made even more special by the amazing team. From the check in, an afternoon cup of tea and breakfast. Super professional and friendly staff. Highly recommended - thank you.

On arrival the receptionist were lovely. There was an issue with the system for check in but it was quickly resolved and the staff were so kind it wasn’t a problem at all. The man who showed us to our room went way too fast and I am fairly fit but could just about keep up with him. So it would be hard for a less fit or older person. Also the bar staff were quite rude. We got to the bar at 9:30 and I asked for an espresso martini the man at bar abruptly said the coffee machine has been turned off so I said can I have a piña colada and then he said I guess so looking quite put out. Then the next day a women at the bar was also rude when there had been a miscommunication about the drink she quickly became confrontational. Generally the visit was lovely as the room was lovely and the receptionist were great but the bar staff definitely let the hotel down a bit.

The man who showed us to our room went way too fast and I am fairly fit but could just about keep up with him. So it would be hard for a less fit or older person. Also the bar staff were quite rude. We got to the bar at 9:30 and I asked for an espresso martini the man at bar abruptly said the coffee machine has been turned off so I said can I have a piña colada and then he said I guess so looking quite put out. Then the next day a women at the bar was also rude when there had been a miscommunication about the drink she quickly became confrontational. Generally the visit was lovely as the room was lovely and the receptionist were great but the bar staff definitely let the hotel down a bit.

Check-in was met with an aggressive hard sell on trying to get you to pay to upgrade your room. Was over the top and not good. First room had an unclean bathtub, so we moved to another room which was better but also had trash on the floor and a lot of maintenance issues including a shower handle that spins in your hand so very hard to use, a bed that will destroy your back as has zero support, along with lumpy pillows. One of the bathroom lights was out so was dark in the bathroom. This should have been caught when cleaning the room! The ventilation system had issues so you were either freezing or sweating. That sucked. Don't bother going to the restaurant if you are gluten free. While they do take a lot of care to let you know what is GF and not, their offering for those of us who NEED GF is poor at best. We opted to eat elsewhere. Luckily the staff in the restaurant are great, or we would have given the hotel 2 stars. Jasmine in the bar is a superstar! All said, I cannot and would not recommend this hotel. Had good past experiences with the Hotel du Vin brand, but this one left us wondering if we can trust the brand.

The hotel is in an excellent location near Micklegate and only a 5-10 minute gentle stroll into the town centre. There are a host of restaurants and pubs in the immediate locale. Whilst we didn’t eat at the hotel, the room was spacious and furnished to a high standard. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful.

Chose this hotels as we have stayed in other hotels du vin around the UK. The one in York is quite similar, being located in an historic building, nicely decorated, friendly staff. The room in the main building was nice, a bit on the small side but this is fairly typical of the chain. It is about 15 mins walk to the centre of York, or there are frequent buses along the main road.

A memorable stay in this very comfortable, stylish hotel. The room was large and everything needed was supplied. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. Easy to walk into the city in around 10 minutes and cheap parking compared with the car parks of York. The restaurant was very good.

The hotel was clean and conveniently located (about a 10 min walk from the railway station). It isnt super close to the city center (about 20 min), but the walk isn’t too strenous (no hills!). Would recommend.

The room was to warm even when the heating was turned off. The price you pay is a bit on the high side for it's location as it is about a 10 to15 minute walk to the city centre. The hotel parking could be free as this could help with future booking because of its location and a good gesture to anybody looking to booking this hotel. This hotel is good for some people but for some people who want to be in the city center who have difficulties in getting around there is other hotels with the same standards closer to the center of york. The bar prices are higher then some hotels i have stayed in. I have to say the room was nice, breakfast was ok the staff were helpful and polite, checking in and out was a breeze. The restaurant in the hotel was great but this can also be a bit on the expensive side for that experience for some people. Overall the trip was good but i would look at saying near the city centre when booking York again just a bit to far out for me and i am a fit and active person also with this location on a cold wet and windy night walking back to your hotel could be interesting. Plus i have only ever seen taxis at the train station and down by York minster when out and about in the city centre.

Good central location.Very friendly helpful staff and excellent breakfast. The only downside was our room was on the front and there was a lot of traffic noise early in the morning. Also the shower was over the bath and due to the height of the bath and the position of the shower screen it was difficult to get in and out of the shower. We stayed in ‘Geof Merrill room.

The hotel has a good location, only a block or two from the city wall entrance. They have plenty of on-site parking. The on-site restaurant is very nice. Our room had AC, but we opened the window to get fresh air as the air in the room seemed a little stale. As we faced the street, there was a fair amount of street noise. Overall, the building complex is very nice, one of the best we have encourtered on our trip.

We had a lovely stay. The staff were very efficient and helpful. We ended up getting an upgrade into a super luxurious suite which was amazing. Dinner was good although the options for gluten free were a bit limited.

The hotel is in an ideal location, only a 15 minute walk into the city centre. Our room was in the new extension to the hotel. The room was very clean, big enough for 2 people with a very comfortable queen size bed and bathroom. The Air conditioning was a great benefit especially with this lovely summer weather we are currently having. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the choice of food at breakfast was excellent . Overall a very good choice of hotel and we would have no hesitation in staying here again if we visit York again.
