Days Inn by Wyndham Ames

The room was old and in disrepair. There was no working electrical outlet in the bathroom. There was construction going on at all hours of the day and night just above and just beside my room - even on the weekend. There were some creepy people roaming around the halls. I elected to check out early due to all these things, and the manager refused a refund for the 4 remaining days on my reservation. I had to escalate it multiple times to Expedia before I was finally given a refund. Awful experience there! I would not recommend at all!

What I didn't like was the main door to hotel rooms didn't have a lock. This is the safety issue! Anyone can come in and out. The door should remain locked all the time and can be accessed only by the guests with the access key.

Although room was refreshed, my wife refused to stay there because of construction work in rest of the building - she sensed mold, etc from construction work. She has a high sensitivity. the site should have stated that rooms are cheap because among construction but it didnt

The most disturbing part of the entire stay was checking in. Instead of a human being, there was a kiosk with a large video screen and the clerk appeared on the screen and directed us through the check-in process. They kept saying things like, "This is standard practice in modern hotels," but I have stayed in many hotels and never had a virtual person check me in. There was also an attendant on duty, but he didn't do the check-in. However, after we went to our room and we're getting settled, he opened our door without knocking to see if anyone was in the room. When I booked my room online, I requested an accessible room because it was a small hotel and would not have an elevator. I did not want to climb steps with luggage because of mobility issues. The breakfast provided was bare bones and minimal but edible. The room itself was fine and the bed was comfortable. The AC worked well, and we did not try the television. The bathroom was accessible for a wheelchair, however the mirror was not properly affixed to the wall and hanging at an angle, and if I had been in a wheelchair I would not have been able to see myself. Frankly, I find it disingenuous to advertise this as a "by Wyndham" property. It's a Days Inn.

Insufficient parking - had to park at restaurant next door and move car before 8 am to avoid being towed Hole in the bathroom door. No coffee for the coffee maker in the room. Carpet surrounded the bathtub. Bathtub faucet leaked. Could barely open and close bathroom door as the door barely cleared the toilet. Sink is in the main room, very small counter for getting ready. No one was on site for checkin. Had to talking to a video employee. Only good thing was the location

Accomodations were fine. I would trade less channels on the TV for a little bit better breakfast options. Oh, and the parking spot lines were painted very narrow.

The front desk is rarely staffed and they don’t clean the rooms during stays, just between stays. Hotel amenities are basic but I wasn’t there for much time. In room refrigerator does not have a freezer so couldn’t keep cooler packs frozen for tailgate. Parking lot was super tight. All rooms in Ames are overpriced on game weekends. This hotel isn’t worth $240/night any other time.

March 2024- under construction, heat didn’t work in the room, my mom who has to use a walker had to use stairs to get to second floor bc there was no elevator. Continental breakfast was pitiful. Hopefully people have a better experience once they’re construction is done.

The room was dirty. There was a dental pick on our nightstand when we arrived the framing around the bathroom door was wet and falling apart. The room overall was so dirty and it smelled like cigarette smoke.

The place is old and run down. Water spots on the ceiling with bowls to catch water in the lobby kitchen. The breakfast was toast/muffins and oatmeal- pretty disappointing. The room is old and worn out. The towel bars were rusty. We switched rooms because there was a dirty sock in the first room. Sheets had stains on them and there was mold in the bathroom.

Trim around the door was falling off. Not clean. Smelled

Unfriendly staff, dirty, blankets had stains. Do not reccomend.

I have been staying at Days Inn twice a year for the last 7 years. I was disappointed to get to my room and find no refrigerator or clock, which I have always had. the girl did get me a clock. She offered for me to change rooms, but that was after I had hung my clothes and settled in. But the worst was, two mornings I woke up to bites on my arms and neck!!! I Googled "bed bug bites" and that\'s what I think this was. So, I moved to the other bed and no more bites!! This was room 114 in the bed next to the wall. At least the ice machine was working this time - not so last July. They used to have the AM paper, but no longer offer this. The breakfast was skimpy as it was in July. The used to have yogurt. One man was wishing for peanut butter for his toast, which they used to have. On Sat. and Sunday they did add croisants and a coffee cake. I will be staying there again in late June or July and I hope to see improvements.

The staff very polite and friendly. Disliked the stains on the bedspreads. The sink in one room didnt work so great but we had two rooms so it worked out.

Room wasnt clean a sock was on the floor beside the bed when i got in the room milk was dried beside the fridge on the floor an a childs toy next to it

Walls are paper thin, pillows are tiny, you talk to a person on a screen for check in, and we skipped the morning shower - bugs started crawling out of the drain and there was hair stuck in the drain as well. 0 stars - stay somewhere else if you can. The cheaper rate wasn’t worth it.

My room was clean but smelled like mildew and smoke. The ice machine was on the other side of my wall and I could hear people getting ice at all hours of the night. One of the exterior doors was outside my room as well and people were entering and leaving through it at all hours of the night as well. Not to mention the stairs were also very noisy. When these things were not being accessed the refrigerator in the room was extremely loud. Needless to say my sleep was very poor. I would not recommend nor stay at this hotel again for the price I was charged.

The rooms were good, clean, and updated. But shower water pressure was a little more than a dribble. Air conditioner died on 1st day, room was upper 80s when we got back from a long day in the sun. The continental breakfast was the worst i have ever seen, and i travel A LOT. Bread was days old, the gravy was never changed out in two days sitting in a broken crockpot, eggs are frozen patties, etc. Good: very near blue 3 bus line that goes straight to the University, good price for the area. lots of restaurants and shopping near by. If you are in town to catch a game, or move kids in or out of ISU it is serviceable.

Clean and convenient. Lots of utilities. Well laid out. Big fridge.

We had trouble with the air conditioner. It was quite noisy when trying to automatically turn on.

I didn't like the fact that I was put in room 209 that did not have an air conditioner in working condition. It felt like it was 80 degrees in the room. When at 11:00pm it wasn't cooling down, I picked up the phone to call the front desk for a different room!! Guess What?? The phone doesn't work either. I got ZERO sleep it was so hot. At 5:45am I went to the front desk as I assumed someone would be up because breakfast started at 6:00am. finally someone came out and didn't know her password and finally could get me a new room. Since by then, breakfast (If you are a little kid) was open. Fruit loops and toast is all they serve! I go a room with working air conditioning and finally slept a bit!!! They still charged me for a night that was unbearable!!! They have ZERO customer service skills!!! Also, my TV didn't work in the new room!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The room was clean but laced basic amenities like cups in the room or an alarm clock. I was staying by myself and the room met my expectations for the price. The room was noisy as it was only a sidewalk distance away from a busy street.

The staff was decent but had issues with verifying the check in process. The TV in my room didn't work and the door lock (not the deadbolt) was broken off. I dont remember off hand if they offer a "continental breakfast" in hotel description, but if they do, they shouldn't.

The temperature was below-10 and the heater in my room was not working and when i went to the desk nobody was there and nobody answered the phone. Know it was late but i couldn’t sleep because it was too cold.

Was given keys to an occupied room. Walked in on somebody sleeping. They gave us a new room but we were pretty sketched out after that. Breakfast was lacking. Would not recommend.

Customer Service was not good. Never had to ever put down a deposit. Then she had an attitude when checking us in.

Excellent customer service! The owner was very friendly and he was very welcoming and kind! The room was clean and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable, as well! The continental breakfast was also nice. Excellent stay for a great price! Would definitely stay here again! :-) ~Andrea and Mark

Black Duck tape on bathroom door, molding on bottom of bathroom door moldy and rotted away. Entrance door to room did not shut all of the way unless you push hard or pulled hard. Kisok check in which was slow. Creepy old man guarding the hallway area and staring at people out side his window no one on site to talk to if you needed anything. My door handle to my room was jiggled 3 times through out my first night there. Felt like they were doing bed checks or something. Lack of towels in room. No disturb signs.

Unprofessional staff and no one at reception for long periods of time and no way to reach them.

Terrible checkin process…a kiosk?!? The 2-way mirror at the desk was creepy, and no staff on site. I called the front desk to ask a question, was put on hold, then hung up on.

I wasn't a fan of having a kiosk with a remote customer service person doing the check in. NOT a personal experience and it didn't give me a very good impression of the management of the facility. The rooms were updated and clean, which was a bit of a surprise as the area around the hotel looked a little sketchy and run down. I was concerned about the security in the area as I found two of the outside doors propped open at 8:30 at night, and my window on the ground floor was unlatched as well.

Clean, friendly staff however there was a crack head screaming outside in the parking lot at 6am who was staying there so a little unsettling

The floor was not swept or mopped which wouldn’t have bothered me as much I would just wear shoes but my crawling baby was with me, so not so great. The bathroom floor was cleaned or appeared to be. The AC ran and tried its best but simply isn’t well enough to keep the room cool. It was uncomfortably hot until the sun went down. Being close to the college there were drunk youngsters playing loud music and screaming throughout the night. The breakfast was not really a breakfast, muffins, cereal, bad fruit and waffles. I would stay here again in a pinch if I needed a place, but if looking for satisfactory rest I would not recommend.

The drug deal right outside that was obviously happening…. as I walked into the lobby. The 3 guys’ behavior was so obvious. Creeped me out all night.

We checked in using a kiosk with a virtual link to someone offsite. He was a good sport since we had teenagers with us. Owner told me later they were testing the use of the kiosk because he can’t find employees. There were a variety of guests from families to a group of older women. Rooms were clean and pics were accurate. Complimentary breakfast room has seating for about 6-8 so prepare to eat in your room. No protein choices at breakfast when we were there. We were in town for an event so basically at hotel at night.

Very friendly staff and had plenty of restaurants and stores with in walking distance. Had a very pleasant stay and the breakfast was fantastic. I would gladly stay here again when given the chance.

this hotel is old had bad smell in hallway. no coffee machine in breakfast had to use lillte one in room. the coffee in packets were stale. 4 mini doughnuts for whole hotel. 2 half loafs of bread and a big jar of peanut butter with how many peoples fingers and hands inside. it was a disaster

The breakfast area was clean and inviting. Only to have curdled milk in container on counter. Lack of wafflemix, old out of date hard cereal, and no coffee in coffee holder. This was all an hour before breakfast time was over. Both days.
