Rosedale Inn

The room was comfortable and quiet. Beds comfortable. Had dish detergent and sponge but no drying rack or dish towels or paper towels. Bathroom door needs adjusting (118); doesn’t open or close properly. Ample parking. So good stay but unfortunately not a full 5 stars.

Property is old and it shows. The office hours only stay open until 8pm. Our key card got demagnetized and we couldn’t get into our room at 11pm. No one was on the property to help us. I called their emergency after hours number. No answer. It wasn’t until another regular guest called on my behalf that they answered and said they were not home and would come to make a new key card. (The owners live in the property) The lady was very kind when she came home and made us a new key card, but we were locked out of our hotel room and the end of a ver long and exhausting day. We were scared we were going to have to sleep in our car. The owner was apologetic but compensation was not offered. This was unacceptable. There are plenty of better locations to stay that are much more professional.

Peeling wallpaper in multiple areas. Back patio area was dirty and unkept. Trash can outside our room was overflowing. Trash outside on grounds and overflowing other areas. Stay was not worth reservation rate.

The Rosedale Inn was a decent place to stay on our vacation. Despite almost missing the check in time, which is strictly before 8 pm, they offered to still make our keys available along with all necessary information if we hadn’t made it in time. The office staff was friendly, and we appreciated their help! We were even upgraded from a Queen room to a King room for free. The rooms are outdated, but had nice amenities like the tub and the fireplace in the room. We didn't spend much time in the room, so it was easy to look past the peeling wallpaper or the small rips in the carpet. There is no AC, but there was a heater. The area is so cool, you didn’t really need much more than a cracked window! We also loved the kitchenette in the room. The surrounding area was very nice, and at night you could hear the ocean from the property. The property itself was small, but had plenty of parking. If you can look past the small, interior flaws then this would be a decent place to stay for a trip. It’s far from luxury, but for my families first trip (with a 3 month old) we enjoyed it. It’s not very far from downtown Pacific Grove, and a few more minutes to Monterey. Being away from the busyness and tourists in Monterey was a huge bonus for us.

Room was outdated & very “tacky”. Sheer curtains under regular curtains were in rags, bathroom wallpaper patched & patches peeling off. Carpet was very frayed at edge of tile where sink was. Grout around shower was moldy. Windows VERY dirty. Outside at dumpster wet scraps of paper just laying around on ground. No cleaning person or maintenance person bothered to pick it up the 2 days we were there. On the positive side room # 116, was large, shower spray good & good hot water. We will not stay at Rosedale Inn again.

Outside areas were dirty with trash laying around. Landscaping was not kept up at all inside rooms were not kept up. Bathroom door would not shut dishes provided were dirty sheets on bed had permanent stains and should have been discarded and replaced. Overall could be a nice place but did not seem at all kept up or clean. Would not recommend and will not stay again on my biannual visits

The location is good close to town and beach. Close to routes around Monterey peninsula. Room was adequate, somewhat clean. It was quiet. Parking is ok . Had a suite , so plenty of room. Room had some flaws as far as maintenance is concerned. Some minor and some ridiculous. Little details! Staff interaction was not that great. That would be the main reason why I would not choose this property again.

I got in late but found my room keys at office front door. The office wasn’t open when I left the next day so I just left keys there and didn’t have any interaction with staff. I liked the fireplace. The place had a few updates- like the tub. But the 3 inches of frayed and worn carpets, peeling wallpaper and curtains that took some effort to close didnt make me feel like I was in a room over $200.

Not the same place we stayed before Covid grounds need TLC. Rooms need upgraded and no longer serve breakfast.

Needs huge renovations, too dark, depressing, outlets not usable, stuffy, window screens/curtains were coming out, and the whole property needs attention. Beds were comfortable. Felt the place is being neglected and fresh paint would help.

Terrible hotel! It was disgusting. Spots on the carpet, spots on the sheets, dirty walls, toilet, shower, curtains were hanging off of the rod and one side had duct tape to hold the curtains closed. All the windows were wide open as we arrived at 12 am and it was 46 degrees out. The place was freezing and the smell was unbearable and horrific! We ended up calling hotels.com, bless their heart, saved us and started calling different hotels in the area. Thank God for Jazz at Lighthouse Lodge, who was available in person at 1am to help us out with the transfer and booking. They came through for us at a critical time and saved us! 5 stars for hotels.com and Lighthouse. I would give Rosedale 0 stars but that was not an option!

Upon arrival I asked the clerk for room fo disabled and was told none were available. No one occupied the disabled room. The room we ended up with smelled moldy. The bedroom window was broken and could not be locked. It was easily opened from the outside ground level. I called the front desk and was told he would put in a work order for the next day. That didn’t help us as we were only there for the night. I slept with one eye open throughout the night as the bed was right next to the window. The shower/hot tub was not clean so a very brief shower with sandals on was all we could get.

This property is old and badly needs some sprucing up. Rooms are dark, not enough lighting, electrical outlets are old and worn so the charger falls out. Room smells a bit like mold. Friedly staff was helpful. Good parking on site. TV remote did not work.

Pictures on website not representative of actual property. Requested towels 3 times never received. Room in disrepair torn rugs. Not very clean . Jacuzzi tub didn’t work. Fixtures in bathroom rusty. Pictures off wall . Slept and left at 5am

Avoid this hotel at all costs!!! The condition of the room was unacceptable. The wallpaper was peeling, the white curtains had visible black mold spots, and the bathtub was dirty with a large gap between it and the wall—poorly patched with joint sealant. The bathroom light was rusted, tiles were coming loose, and there were spiderwebs on the ceiling. The bedsheets were stained, the pillows were old and lumpy, and the entire room had a musty odor with mold clearly visible on the walls. I had to move the armchair just to find an outlet, and the area behind it looked like it had never been cleaned. The outside wasn’t any better—overgrown grass, random trash, and even a broom and shovel just left lying there at the entrance of my room. This place is in serious need of deep cleaning and renovation. Definitely not worth staying in. The Pacific grove is a beautiful place to visit, just don’t stay in this hotel because it will ruin your experience.

We came back with bed bug bites. We stayed there 2 nights and got bed bugs.

One typically knows what to expect when booking an “Inn” at this price point, and I had reasonable expectations about the “suite” at the Rosedale Inn. These expectations were somehow not even in the ballpark of what I was given upon check in. From moldy walls and curtains, to a broken light in the bathroom, a peeling tub, moist and mildew soaked air, and a bed that gave both me and my partner a rash, I simply can’t in good conscience recommend this location. It’s one matter for a room to have dated fixtures or aesthetics, as this is simply a nitpick if the room itself is clean and comfortable, however it seemed as though this room had been allowed to fall into total disrepair and filth. The bathroom was covered in mildew, the walls had signs of mold in both the area with the bed as well as the adjoining room, the heater simply did not function, painters tape was holding the locks down on the windows, etc, etc. I’m truly only scratching the surface with how displeased I am with my stay here. Their online listings do not fully indicate the level of disrepair and overall filth of the rooms. I’m not at all sure what the positive reviews here are referencing, but I would be curious to see what those same reviewers would have to say after staying a night in the king suite that I booked. Believe the negative reviews that you come across. This place simply isn’t functionally operating at a level that is safe or healthy for guests.

Staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was quite spacious, but needs ALOT of TLC/maintenance. The front of the bath tub was caving in. The kids wanted to use the jets which were very dirty and full of someone’s hair. The bathroom door was separating from water damage. The carpet and wallpaper were splitting. Food was under a chair. The sheets and couches were full of stains. Coffee and food splatter high up on the walls. Probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Overly musty, mold issue became a health hazard. Dirty, hair on bed upon first inspection, sheets and pillow stained, remote absolutely dirty, unable to get ceiling fan to work, window was open and when attempted to close realized hinges were broken, security issue so attempted to lock it and pinched my thumb pretty severely. No room service and although they knew we were there for a 5 day stay, a female unlocked our door close to 4 pm after our first night. She didn’t announce herself before unlocking the room door at which point she realized we were in the room. This left me with an uneasy feeling. Due to the musty air the sheets felt damp and my clothes also felt damp on our first morning. On the second day when I picked up my cup to drink water it all of a sudden smelled like mold at which point it became a hazard as my husband is allergic and asthmatic and almost non verbal due to Alzheimer’s. Not worth saving a few dollars, spend a bit more to steer clear of this place. Additionally, although unfamiliar how hotels.com finds hotels to partner with, I strongly suggest removal of this location as an option. We left after the first night and paid for a second hotels and cut it a day short due to the additional cost we had to pay to move to a safer, cleaner hotel.

The property itself was Okay. Interior and exterior are outdated. When we arrived at the property, we reminded we have stayed this hotel in 2017. We checked the photos of our past stay and found out there's no upgrade since then and they have offered free continental breakfast, but no longer in their amenity. Especially, the water pressure of the bath is extremely low and it took more than an hour to fill hot water in the tub for the in-room jacuzzi. This hotel needs more upgrade to attract customer.

The room that I stayed in needs a lot of maintenance work. I did tell the front desk about the broken showerhead. There were patched up holes in the bathroom walls. No soap holder for the hand soap The mini refrigerator was rusted on the outside and had ice buildup in the freezer. I can feel the springs in the mattress. TV and lamps were all unplugged. I did call the front desk to help with the cable connections. The best thing about this property, was the location. I was only there for a night and the price was reasonable.

The room is spacious, close to the beach. The furniture in the room was very uncomfortable.

I enjoyed the stay. The room is big. The bed is soft and the sheets are clean. It’s an older building so things are not in top shape, but it’s very comfortable and quiet.

Every time we go, the fireplace never works. The water smells a little off and on this occasion, our door didn’t work so we left early we weren’t able to get in and out of our room. The attendant tried his best to help, but it just became awkward with someone sitting in our room all day trying to get the door to work. The door itself is a bit archaic that attended himself says, and it hasn’t been replaced since the 90s

Huge room! the jet tub was awesome, the property was clean and quiet. There was quite a few maintenance issues, such as the front door needed to be repainted, one of the switches and an outlet where falling apart, shower head was worn out. my bed was way to stiff for me, but that is a personal issue

Suites are spacious, clean, and private. And the jacuzzi tub was outstanding. Fireplace very nice. Will recommend this inn to others.

Very comfortable but a little warm in the rooms. Because it doesn’t have ac it would be nice to have fans in both rooms. Outside of that it was great.

I have stayed here before and was satisfied, but not this time. My room was in really rough shape and fireplace didn't work. The guy at the front counter always has an attitude when checking in, both times.

Love the area. Great process for a good room. Staff was Great! The office closes at 8pm and we were coming late. The office reached out to make sure we were gonna be able to get in. Very polite.

We love staying here, it’s the perfect get away, close to the beach and so quiet. We were greeted so nicely by the man at the front desk and our room was very clean. We stayed Friday to Monday but housekeeping didn’t come once to check linens or empty trash. We had to ask for clean towels and after 2 hours, housekeeping didn’t come so we got towels from the office. The lack of housekeeping was disappointing. The only thing I’d say to “fix,” would be to caulk the bathtub, it had none. We will still continue to come back and enjoy our time at this location.

No one was available for check-in at 4:20pm. The key to the room wouldn't work, then the door wouldn't open. They switched us to another room that was musty. The bathroom was dilapidated and in need of repair. The sink basin faucet was loose and didn't emit hot water. The area was nice and serene, but the experience was near zero.

Booked a room last minute for reasonable price. Ideally located next to Asilomar and a short, pleasant walk to the Fishwife. Make sure to check in by 8:00 pm, we almost missed it. We would have enjoyed spending more time relaxing in and around the room, but we were helping to chaperone and drive a large group of high school kids who camped at Veteran's Park. I recommend this place if the price is right, and if you want to walk directly to beach or go bike riding. Aside from the Fishwife, it's a short jaunt to Pacific Grove downtown or to other chill restaurants/Safeway just up the hill by David and Highway 68.

Great location and spacious room

Beautiful stay in a beautiful location. The area was quiet and felt very safe. The interior was a bit old and had its share of scuffs but nothing that made our stay feel inconvenient. We loved this place and would definitely come again.

Cool place tucked away from the traffic and noise. Older property but well maintained and with extra amenities like fireplace in the room. If you're looking for a nice spot in the woods but a couple of blocks from the ocean front road then this is it.

Such a good price and excellent location and parking. Monterey Transit Shuttle bus leaves hourly.

Big bedroom and living room tub was great the jets were perfect. Small patio with chairs was nice and deer frequent the yard area. Bed was comfy and 10 min walk to Asilomar beach. Low car traffic and almost secluded area

Rosedale is a cute little getaway nestled in the trees of Pacific Grove. The accommodations are nice but need updating. The bed was somewhat uncomfortable and the shower curtain was pretty ratty. Some worn spots in the carpeting and broken tiles in the bath. For the cost it should have at a continental breakfast. I’d give it 3 of 5 stars.

Would draw more people if hotel /rooms were updated. Also if they served a continental breakfast as most of the surrounding hotels do for same price. Bed was in need of replacing as it listed and dipped to one side.

The property is good for the price you pay - least expensive hotel near Asilomar conference center. There is a wonderful trail near the property that gives those who walk it a look into the Pacific Grove charm of the past. With the Asilomar Conf. Center right across the street, most of my time was spent enjoying their facilities and the coffee shop there that has good food and adult beverages.

I have mixed feelings about this place. We stay in PG at least 3 times a year and all of the hotels are a bit quirky so if you want modern, stay in Monterey or Carmel. Pros: The welcome was warm and friendly, but our room was not ready. The location is fabulous because you are in the forest and only a 10 minute walk to the beach. The room had largish towels that were fairly soft. The room was quiet even though there were many people staying at the hotel. The kleenex was soft. The room had a working microwave, fridge and a separate sink by the coffee maker. Loved that you could wake up and walk to Pheobe's cafe for breakfast then sit on the dunes and watch the waves while you eat. It has a fireplace and a large tub. Cons: Breakfast is not included. The room was dark and sad with lots of brown and beige. Most beach rooms are white, green or blue. I thought the bed was okay, but my husband did not like it. He felt like he was falling off the bed all night because they put a huge mattress cushion on top of the bed. The sheets were a bit scratchy. The window screens were broken. The wallpaper was coming off in at least 6 different places. Just peel it off and paint it a more cheerful color. The toilet paper was very thin. There were only 2 towels and a foot towel. There were no hand towels or even an extra towel for my hair. This place looks like no one loves it which makes me sad because the location is fabulous.
