I have stayed here many times over the last 35 years and have seen many renovations and changes. Some good and some things that should have been left as they were better before. The room is clean enough, but the bathroom sink was filthy when we arrived. Our garbage bin was not emptied for two days. The bed was lopsided, and has been on other occasions also, probably from heavy people who sit on the edge of the bed. Pillows are lumpy and old, and some towels are quite worn out. I stay here because of the location that I need to be close to. The breakfast is excellent, lots of choice and it’s well known in the area. The location is quiet and restful, nice walking or cycling in the paths and roads in the back. I’m very fond of this hotel because of my many stays here, but there are things that need more attention.

I stayed on the hottest day of the year and was put in the annex building with no air con or windows. The staff could not do anything as they were fully booked but did provide a small fan. I subsequently had to sleep in the car. There was a note on the booking (which I missed) saying no air con in room however the fact there was no windows either meant it was like an oven (+40 degrees). In addition there was a lot of construction going on around the grounds, with sheets up to try and prevent dust. Food was good and the staff did try their best but due to the reasons above this was not an enjoyable stay.
