When you’re on the 8th floor, you need the lifts to work. With three lifts that shouldn’t be a concern, but when only one slow lift is working then that mars the overall experience. Some guests with baggage waiting 10 minutes to get up to their room. The staff on reception were apologetic, but this clearly had been an issue for some time. The hotel is best suited to those who come by car, and is in an industrial estate. Be aware that public transportation options are somewhat limited in the immediate vicinity, for example a 20 minute walk to the nearest Basel Tram stop. OK in sunny June, but in the wetter colder months you would likely need to book a taxi. The food was excellent.

We stayed one week at Carathotel Basel during Eurovision. Our room was spacious and clean even being a little older. Staff was helpful and wonderful. Breakfast was an amazing spread of everything you could possibly want. Transportation into Basel was about a 15 minute walk to the tram or you could catch a bus across the street, but we enjoyed the walk. The only (minor) issue was that there was only 1 elevator working while we were there, and sometimes the wait for it was quite long.

Of three elevators, one was operational. Unfortunately it was also not the one leading to the sauna, so you had enquire how to reach it. Upon check-in no information was given whatsoever, and room contained no info, such as the mini-bar. The hotel has also cut down on breakfast severely. It used to be one of the best we've had, but this time was very poor.

Großes Zimmer, sauber mit Badewanne (jedoch in die Jahre gekommen und wenige Kosmetikartikel). Sauna abends benutzbar und kostenlos. Frühstück überdurchschnittlich (mit frisch-gepressten Orangensaft). Service sehr freundlich. Die Lage ist vor Base 40min mit der Bahn. Bei einem fairen Preis, auf jeden Fall weiterzuempfehlen :)

The property location was a good bit away from transport, room was quite dirty with a bug even being the bathroom cup and staff also being fairly unhelpful - my partner had also left her Fitbit watch in the room and we have contacted the hotel to try and have it sent back but instead it seems to have been stolen instead as there is recent activity within the app. Try and avoid if possible!

My room was not cleaned and one of the days I didn't have soap, clean towels, the trash was not taken. I had to go down to the reception to look for the towels and the soap. Also, the breakfast buffet included ONLY 1 cup of coffee. If I wanted a second cup of coffee I had to pay for it!!!

In camera 1003 moquette vicino alle finestre con macchie di sporco … da sostituire almeno quel Pezzo di moquette. Arredamento della stanza anni 70/80. Bagno completamente rifatto bello.

The Hotel (especially the room) looks run down. The room had AC which did not work, fortunately one could open the window to get the heat out. Staff was friendly and helpful and the location is good. Overall the stay was ok for what we were looking for. But again, the rooms could use a refresh.

I highly recommend that everyone should look beyond the big expensive city of Basel and look into Germany for accommodations. Although this hotel had slightly outdated décor, one can see that this hotel, and it's staff, have a lot of pride in their work place, and they offer great service. My room was spotless, had all the necessities except for air conditioning but thankfully, it was a cool enough night that it wasn't necessary. The hotel offered a plentiful and fresh breakfast buffet that was fit for a king. Everything was wonderful at the Carathotel. I really commend the staff that was very welcoming.

When I checked in I was asked to pay for the room though I was sure I had paid when I booked but didn't have the details at that time. It was eventually sorted but I am now having to wait 5 days to be refunded. The whole process of checking in was slow as they work with one tablet and if that's being used you may need to wait a while. Rooms are spacious and clean though the hotel is a bit dated

We have stayed at the hotel several times before and were always very satisfied and loved it. We don’t know what’s going on — whether the management has changed or something else is happening at the moment. The staff can hardly speak German. When checking in, you now have to enter and register everything yourself on a tablet, even though we are regular guests and already registered. We find this very inconvenient. The bathroom was also not cleaned properly. Out of three elevators, two were out of order. No money left for electricity? In addition, breakfast is no longer included, and you end up paying significantly more for everything including breakfast. The beloved breakfast buffet is gone, and you can now only choose from fixed breakfast menus (€19 per person). The breakfast was good and plentiful, but we noticed a lot of unnecessary food waste. On top of that, the staff were completely overwhelmed, both in terms of language and the number of guests, and we had to wait a long time to get a table and then again for the breakfast to arrive. Our advice to management: go back to the old system. Otherwise, you’ll lose your customers. We, for our part, won’t be coming back.

The staff here is easily the best I've ever experienced. Extremely helpful, kind, and fun, and they put in the extra effort to make guests feel at home and comfortable. They alone are reason to stay again, but the hotel is a great bargain as well. Loved it!

I like the way the check in was so smooth, the friendliness from the staff, The breakfast was excellent and evening meal. The room was nice,tidy and clean. Dislike: I left the sign on my door (Do Not Disturb) but still they went in and cleaned the room, that side needs to be looked at. But on the whole was good

Mit ein Grund für die Wahl des Hotels war die erwartete gute Anbindung an den ÖPNV, vor Ort zeigte sich allerdings, dass die Haltestelle direkt vor dem Hotel nur wenige Mal am Tag bedient wird. Da sich das Hotel praktisch mitten in einem Gewerbegebiet befindet war der zu bewältigende Fußweg in die Stadt, wenn man nicht das Auto nutzen wollte, teilweise abenteuerlich. Das Hotel ist insgesamt sehr gepflegt und sauber, da ist nichts einzuschränken. An der Rezeption trifft man auf freundliche und hilfsvereite MitarbeiterInnen. Erwähnenswert ist die Selbstbedienung an einem Kaffeeautomaten in der Lobby und das Angebot an Obst zur freien Verfügung. Das im Preis enthaltene Frühstücksbuffet lässt praktisch keine Wünsche offen bis hin zu veganen und Bio-Angeboten. Der Frühstücksraum wird abends für das mexikanische Restaurant Hazienda genutzt, dem wir ebenfalls einen Besuch abstatteten. Das Restaurant ist zu empfehlen.

Das Hotel liegt in einem Industriegebiet nahe der Autobahn Basel - Karlsruhe und eignet sich daher hervorragend für eine Zwischenübernachtung auf einer längeren Reise. Trotz Autobahnnähe war unser Zimmer absolut ruhig , sehr gut ausgestattet und es gibt kostenlose Parkplätze. Das mexikanische Restaurant im Hotel ist sehr empfehlendswert und das Frühstück lässt keine Wünsche offen. Wir können das Hotel wirklich empfehlen und würden es jederzeit wieder buchen.

Fine airport hotel but they advertised having a shuttle and didn’t. Had to spend 40 euros for a 5 minute cab ride to catch a morning flight. The pint of an airport hotel is a place to crash that has a shuttle. Disappointing.
