Room was very clean and beautiful, just like the pictures promised. Breakfast and dinner buffets were quite subpar for around $40 per person.

Stayed 3 nights

I really love my stay in Laforet Shuzenji. The in-room onsen was a GOD SEND and the rooms are really clean. However, I would only encourage travelers who are driving to only stay there as the road up to the hotel is really far and dark in the night. There is a shuttle bus but it doesnt come very frequent. Restaurants and convenience stores are mostly not anywhere near to the hotel. Even check in counters are located some distance away from your designated chalet rooms. While my experience in the hotel are great, there was a night which we left our food trash in a bag outside our room. We were surprised that some unwanted guest ( i guess it was the wild boars) came rummaging in the night while we were asleep and the whole corridor was messed. So please be careful about it. The amenities were very well provided with all the onsen towels and they even had kimono for little children. All in all, I really love my stay in Laforet and will certainly return if I am back in Izu.

Stayed 2 nights

I was a bit worried leading up to the trip about how to get there but they had some pretty good instructions on their website. They have a free shuttle that comes to the Shuzenji station about every hour or 2 (timetable is on their site) so all you need to worry about it getting to Shuzenji station which you can figure out using Google Maps. Once there, their instructions say to exit the station, go out and around the 7 eleven, and all the way down to the 8th bus stop. You’ll know you’re at the right spot because the sign will literally say the bus stop is for this hotel. It’s a coach bus so you’ll be able to fit any large or small luggage in the undercarriage. Check in was quick and easy. We got to our room which was not too far by walk but they have a shuttle going around between the Marriott and guest house every 20-40 minutes. This is basically out in the wilderness so expect some bugs and flys, etc. With that said, our room was very clean and really could not find any bugs inside the room for the 2 nights we stayed. The private onsen was amazing and relaxing and we could actually see the top of Mt. Fuji from our room in November when it’s cooler so less clouds. Limited in the things you can do there but we came to relax. Food was just okay, kaiseki dinner is a traditional Japanese tasting menu essentially but wasn’t for us personally. Breakfast buffet is what you expect. Overall, pricey but relaxing stay. Would recommend for those looking for private onsen.
