The rooms could use a little upgrade. There should be more chairs in the shade for free. All the good chairs are reserved. You shouldn’t have to pay for a shaded seat. For the cost of the room, you should get snorkel equipment for more than one hour. Other than that, I loved the property. Staff was excellent and the dining was great too.

This is a stunning resort!! Everything is immaculate and beautiful, and the staff bends over backwards to help in any way they can. Only two downsides: Food is very expensive, even at the “low priced” deli, and getting from our room to the lobby, entrance and parking lot required taking two elevators and a lot of walking. It was great exercise but took a lot of extra time.

It’s a large resort and the passages can be a bit confusing at first, but once you are familiar with the layout it’s a breeze. The property hosts many large parties and events on the lawn directly in front of the oceanfront rooms on the golf course side of the property. Be aware of that if you’re seeking tranquility. The beach and pool are great for couples and families. If you are using the spa on site I recommend the waterfall massage. It’s really amazing! My husband had a window through the floor looking down on the koi pond during his massage. Do not buy water, especially at Browns deli where we unknowingly spent $24 on 2 bottles of water. Not much is priced in their cooler. Bring your resort provided water bottle, there are refill stations everywhere and the filtered water is cold.

Did not like that upon check in the valet guys would not let us park up front to get checked in and drop off our baggage. They said resort policy would not let us temp park. For a 5 star resort this is acceptable practice at all other resorts we have stayed at on the islands. You need to fix your policy so that its in line with the rest of the industry. That was a big turn off, avoided using the valet the entire trip because of that policy.

There is so much to like at the Fairmont Orchid. And I guess that's to be expected at $800 and change a night fees and tax figured in. But still....laundry facilities are free and include product....they let me check out late to line up better with my uber to the airport.....AND the people there are SO nice and helpful....let's see....you can hang at the pool or on the beach regardless of the hour....they use water proof wrist bans as room keys....nice metal water bottles as gifts to take home....the location even by Big Island standards is jaw dropping nice...instead of coffee in the room they have espresso machines....sun screen and aloe Vera at the towel hut....free coffee from 5am to 6:30 at Browns breakfast and deli....room service till midnight....I could go on.....I don't usually stay at places this swank...so maybe this is just the way it is at $800 a pop....but still...highly highly recommended....makati...

The facility was so cute, clean and well maintained. Service was good. Every staff at the hotel was professional. Love the food at the restaurant. Pool, fitness and complementary yoga class was outstanding. Staff at the concierge office was excellent and helpful. This is the best experience and I would like to definitely come back to this hotel for next vacation.

Friendly staff, amenities we really liked - in and out self parking or valet parking, free towels for on or offsite beach activities, cold water dispensers everywhere (to refill water bottles), 24/7 well equipped gym and the cool silicone room key wristbands, spacious rooms with plenty of outlets/USB/USB-C, double sinks and showers was a win! Great location (didn’t rain compared to Kona, Hilo, etc.) near several cool/convenient shopping/food - 5-10 minute drive or walkable too - some excellent beaches nearby too.

Pros: hotel was very nice with beautiful grounds and housekeeping was excellent. Nice pool (though not as good as most of the Waikoala resorts that have waterfalls/slides, etc). Nice little beach lagoon with snorkeling for the kids. Cons: They nickel and dime you for everything and manipulate you in ways to force you to spend every extra penny you have. Very unwelcoming arrival - was strongly encouraged to valet, being told we couldn't temporarily park our car for checkin otherwise. (I want to come and go as I please without having to talk to an attendant). And then the guest parking is about a mile away, takes literally 10 minutes to walk from our room to the parking spot. Also, the nearest elevator was broken our entire stay which lengthened the distances we had to walk to get to the pool or beach. They also ran out of pool towels the Saturday we were there, telling me they wouldn't have any more until the next day. This is unfathomable for a Hawaii resort, especially one where we were paying an absolute premium to stay at. Totally unacceptable. Overall customer service was not up to par, I never felt welcome - not the most friendly staff and there was a long wait each of the times I had to talk to front desk. Be aware that you are totally captive at this property - very inconvenient that you have to drive to get any outside food/convenience items (and it takes a long time just to get to your vehicle). So you're kind of stuck here, and I'd look elsewhere next time

Very nice surroundings with beautiful views. Whales jumping and snorkeling with the fish and turtles. Loved the walks along the coast and relaxing by the beach. Bathroom tiles very slippery and need updating.

Beautiful property, but our room was just ok. Needed updating and the bathroom door knob needed to be fixed. The food options at the hotel were also average. But great drinks. We ate most of our meals off property. We’d stay again, but make sure we get an updated room next time.

Hotel room was clean, roomy and beach and pool was great, especially pool was heated and could enjoy all the time. However, room prep and staff at the reception was not great. We booked with 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids) but only 3 towels sets were in the room, and shampoo/conditioner/body gel were all out of stock. We requested to bring another towel set and refill the shampoo etc, but towel set was brought almost an hour later, and no refill... Also, at the time of checkout, we were charged the food/drinks which we didn't ordered, and it took almost 20 min. to confirm and remove from our bill. And there were no any apologizes about that mistakes... I would say this hotel staff/service is not 5 star hotel, similar to 3-4 star hotel.

The property itself is very well kept but they seem short staffed. I wouldn’t say this is a 5 star property due to that reason. The room was clean but you could tell it was a bit dated. We also found a few bugs in our room, including a roach one night. Both were in the bathroom.

Lovely stay, wonderful staff with a great view of the ocean. The cleaning staff was amazing at keeping us well stocked with coffee, and clean towels too! The sheets and pillows were heavenly. Thank you for making our room so pleasant to return to after lots of sightseeing! And thank you to all the bell staff for meeting our needs after my husband had injured his knee. You were all so kind in making sure we were taken care of, and getting him back and fourth in a wheelchair. We also had some amazing food at “Brown’s restaurant “. The Easter buffet was spectacular, and you have the best Luau on the island! The hotel grounds are well kept, your gardeners work is meticulous! Since my husband had injured himself we had to change some plans around, and I chose the cabana rental for that (the zip line had to be canceled). The cabana experience helped to relax us both, the staff was very hardworking, and provided a special retreat within our hotel stay. It was a wonderful experience, and hope to return someday!

This is an established, beautiful property. The gardens, koi ponds and beach are well-kept and beautiful. The staff is friendly and attentive. Housekeeping is very good. The room, bathroom and general areas need some up dates. Paint and surfaces are worn in places. The Luau was great. A real get-away.

The overall property is nice and the lagoon has calm waters for snorkeling. Generally, the staff were friendly and helpful. Had an unpleasant check in but I give the hotel credit for trying to make up for the experience immediately. Would recommend guests avoid parts of the 5th floor of the north tower. There’s a lounge on the 6th and there are lots of noise that penetrates early in the morning as the staff preps. We just dealt with it as we are on west coast time anyway but if you wanted to sleep later, not the best choice.

The property is gorgeous, all the common areas are clean and beautiful. Lobby and the view as you walk in is like a painting. Staff will go out of their way to help, and are all super nice and friendly. This is Hawaii, so everything is expensive, and this hotel very much fits the bill. $50 breakfast buffet per person and $25 mixed drinks at the outdoor bar. My one real complaint is the resort is seriously lacking a good espresso machine and someone who knows how to use it, remedied by a coffee shop a few minutes away by car. The room was large and well appointed, if a little dated and some sliding doors didn't operate smoothly.

Great staff and service. Dated rooms, less than great fixtures and furniture. Lots of in room tile but very comfortable beds. Very expensive food and drinks, but most items were tasty - however the Mai Tai's were the worst I have had at any luxury resort. It's not the Four seasons or The Ritz Carlton and has limited hours for room service (strange for a 5 star resort hotel), but you also don't pay the premium price for the accommodations. The grounds were immaculate and clean, the views were incredible, the pool was great for kids and families (wish they would have a separate pool for the obnoxious and inebriated adults), and the beach/lagoon was conveniently close and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Ultimately it was worth the trip and would consider staying there again, should our next Hawaii trip be at the Big Island.

We loved the ocean view room — it was large with a comfortable bed with hypoallergenic bedding options, and it had lots of storage room for clothing — 2 closets and 4 large drawers. I have stayed in several luxury hotels/ resorts in the past and the friendly service here was beyond compare. We loved the ocean view room — it was large with a comfortable bed with hypoallergenic bedding options, and it had lots of storage room for clothing — 2 closets and 4 large drawers. I have stayed in several luxury hotels/ resorts in the past and the friendly service here was beyond compare. Friendly staff, amenities we really liked - in and out self parking or valet parking, free towels for on or offsite beach activities, cold water dispensers everywhere (to refill water bottles), 24/7 well equipped gym and the cool silicone room key wristbands, spacious rooms with plenty of outlets/USB/USB-C, double sinks and showers was a win! Great location (didn’t rain compared to Kona, Hilo, etc.) near several cool/convenient shopping/food - 5-10 minute drive or walkable too - some excellent beaches nearby too.

It’s a beautiful property overall but I was assigned a first floor (they call it 3rd floor though) room where people walked by the sliding door all the time so there was no privacy. zero sunlight so was pretty cold all the time :(

The staff is very friendly the place is very nice but I will mention one thing If you're getting a room make sure it's not an adjoining room or there are children nearby because you will hear them and they will keep you up all night. If you're okay with children crying all night then don't worry about it but you might want to check when you check in what rooms are around you.

The hotel is beautifully located and absolutely serene. However, there were a few details lacking. The food options were limited and repetitive, and tasted mediocre at best. It was disappointing considering what one would expect from a Fairmont. While the rooms were large, and bathrooms gorgeous, the pillows were as thin as envelopes. This resort is really nice. Location is great and it’s very well maintained. It’s only getting one star, because I felt differential treatment in a bad way from one of the people at check-in. This continued even at the check out which was very disheartening. I won’t mention the name, but I hope other guests don’t feel that way.

The staff is always extremely warm and friendly, and they went out of their way to make sure my family and I had a great vacation. The kiddos found a coconut on one of our adventures and brought it back to the hotel wanting to crack it open - turns out the landscaping team not only obliged but they even brought a brand new fresh coconut guessing the kids didn’t get a fresh pick. Turns out they were right and the replacement coconut turned out better than the original and the kids got to check another thing off their bucket list - drink from a fresh coconut! We ended our stay with a snorkel swim with a green sea turtle which was one of MY bucket list items! The Fairmont Orchid really lives up to the positive reviews and next time we plan a trip to the Big Island, the Orchid will be top of the list.

Garden view room booked on this site was half garden view half parking lot and construction or maintenance materials view. There were miscellaneous things like wrong number of towels left so I dried off with a hand towel one night, no toilet paper because extra wasn’t left when cleaning. Yes front desk was made aware I ended up grabbing some off the housekeeper cart parked in the hall. Tolerant and understanding traveler so these aren’t a big deal. The big deal was treatment at check out by the guy checking me out when I had a question about my bill. He was rude in a passive aggressive way. And we were offered when we couldn’t do a late check out use of a hospitality room or I can’t remember what they called it. But basically we would have a place to shower and change quickly before we left for the airport. So we planned a water activity in Kona and then drove the almost hour back to use the resort amenity that had been offered. We did not ask it was offered. When we got back to the resort we were treated like second class citizens and sent tot the spa to use the shower and again treated the same when we got to the spa. We did not request the amenity it had been offered so we planned accordingly. Had I known how we would be treated I would have planned differently and certainly would have skipped the almost 1 hour drive to the resort before driving back to the airport. This treatment added to the smaller things equaled a big disappointment in this resort.

We were thoroughly impressed with the Fairmont during our stay. The staff were exceptional, consistently going above and beyond our expectations. In particular, Jasmine was incredibly helpful and made our experience even better. The property itself is beautiful and well-maintained, with landscaping staff diligently tending to the grounds. We especially appreciated the hotel’s commitment to reducing unnecessary waste, which reflects a thoughtful approach to sustainability. Additionally, the nearby reef offered excellent opportunities for swimming and snorkeling. A truly wonderful experience overall.

Pros: hotel was very nice with beautiful grounds and housekeeping was excellent. Nice pool (though not as good as most of the Waikoala resorts that have waterfalls/slides, etc). Nice little beach lagoon with snorkeling for the kids. Cons: They nickel and dime you for everything and manipulate you in ways to force you to spend every extra penny you have. Very unwelcoming arrival - was strongly encouraged to valet, being told we couldn't temporarily park our car for checkin otherwise. (I want to come and go as I please without having to talk to an attendant). And then the guest parking is about a mile away, takes literally 10 minutes to walk from our room to the parking spot. Also, the nearest elevator was broken our entire stay which lengthened the distances we had to walk to get to the pool or beach. They also ran out of pool towels the Saturday we were there, telling me they wouldn't have any more until the next day. This is unfathomable for a Hawaii resort, especially one where we were paying an absolute premium to stay at. Totally unacceptable. Overall customer service was not up to par, I never felt welcome - not the most friendly staff and there was a long wait each of the times I had to talk to front desk. Be aware that you are totally captive at this property - very inconvenient that you have to drive to get any outside food/convenience items (and it takes a long time just to get to your vehicle). So you're kind of stuck here, and I'd look elsewhere next time

It was our first time in Kona and we fell in love with the place. We had a few hiccups on our first day with our room at Fairmont Orchid but the manager (I forgot her name) was quick enough to fix it and gave us a complimentary room upgrade and more! Location was private and beautifully maintained gardens everywhere. Views of ocean, pool and private beach are excellent. Loved beach/lagoon for little ones to swim safely. The Orchid is absolutely beautiful! The grounds are immaculate and pool is the perfect size with a separate section for adults. The food options are good. We especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet that had about every option you could imagine. The beach is ideal for kids with no breaking waves, a sandy beach, and safe clear waters for snorkeling! It's just a short walk to a nice grocery store, shops, and more dining options. Our trip was just about perfect!

This property is excellent by any measure. The lobby and surrounding patio is gorgeous; especially at night with the torches lit. There was a guitarist each night with drink/food service. Pool area is beautiful; plenty of chairs for all guests which is unusual. Drink/food service was always available. The entire grounds is well manicured. The lagoon is very pretty and loaded with fish. Many places to sit of an evening with several fire places on the grounds and near the beach. Really a lovely setting. Only downside was the price of food which did borderline a little silly. Breakfast, although very good food quality and presentation, price was $50 per person. Drinks are $14 and above. Dinner was very good, again very high priced. We noted many persons were going to the nearby grocery store up the road to stock up. Very nice food choices at store but keep in mind there is no microwave in the rooms. Rooms were perfect.

Beautiful property, but our room was just ok. Needed updating and the bathroom door knob needed to be fixed. The food options at the hotel were also average. But great drinks. We ate most of our meals off property. We’d stay again, but make sure we get an updated room next time.

Beautiful property! Loved the pool and especially the lagoon! So wonderful to have the private beach with lounge chairs and calm waters to swim and snorkel in. Ate 3 times at Hale Kai restaurant, and it was very good and had a great vibe with tables on the sand overlooking the ocean. All the restaurants are pricey, but it's the same at most places we went on the island. Only thing I wish they had was an a la carte breakfast option (for a sit down meal, but not the buffet). Brown's Deli was the only other breakfast option, and it was okay.

It needs more breakfast options. It’s either buffet or a deli that has very limited options. The restaurant Browns is also a little dated. It needs more shade for everyone at the beach. There’s no where to view the ocean in the shade.

Great place if you don't spend a fortune eating there a lot. We went to every restaurant on site. The room service breakfasts were amazing, but the rest of the meals were just good. Negatives about the place are that it seemed like every other day in the North Tower (facing the golf course) it is loud starting at 6am with apparently excessive mowing. There was also a worker spraying what was apparently weed killer all around the central green space and kids were looking for lizards in the bushes while he was doing it in the middle of the day! Parents were shooing the kids away from it. If they addressed those concerns we would happily spend another vacation there.

The hotel is really amazing ... the pool, the beach, the room, the restaurant; the only negative point is that at the check out day, the hotel doesn't offer you a place to have a shower! It's so disappointing, specially if your flight is at night that a hotel of this level can't offer their guest this "treat"!

Our stay last week at The Fairmont Orchid was fantastic. Starting with the superlative attention and thoughtful detail by Ms. Pua at our check in, the stay was extraordinary in every regard. The incomparable care we felt from all the staff reflects the lasting legacy that makes a stay at the Fairmont so unique. This trip alone we stayed at 3 other 5 star resorts, and though the others were even more expensive, the care and gracious generosity from the staff at the Orchid is without peer.
