Wonderful hotel except for the elevator. Why would only one elevator work when there were 4! Sunday morning was a nightmare trying to leave! For that reason I’m not sure I would stay here again and I plan to visit often because my grandson is at Drake

Pool and fitness center were very dirty. Water was very dirty and pool deck had trash. Door held open with tape. Fitness center had a poor smell and open ceiling tile with dripping water. Room windows were not well sealed and cold air/wind blowing in.

I believe this hotel is in need of a renovation, as the bed and couch in my room were outdated. Additionally, there were issues with the elevator, which was shut down for a couple of days during my stay, forcing me to use the stairs to get in and out. On the positive side, the staff were wonderful and very helpful, which I greatly appreciated. However, for such a beautiful hotel located in the heart of downtown Des Moines, it did not meet my expectations.

When we arrived, we were told the elevator didn’t work and would have to wait about 25 minutes, our room was on the 8th floor and had lots to carry. I was confused because there are 4 elevators. After about 35 minutes, that took us around the building and took us up another elevator. Throughout our 4 day stay, there were many notes about the elevator not working. The pool was inaccessible, as it needed to be cleaned, from what I heard from another guest. They do have parking, but extremely limited. 1 out of 2 treadmills didn’t work.

I want to say Hyatt Place Downtown Des Moines was wonderful - but unfortunately, overall, I can't. I CAN say the front desk staff and the cleaning staff were great - welcoming, nice, positive, accommodating, helpful, etc. Even considering the cleaning crew was short-staffed! What was unimpressive was the following: While I don't mind vintage, Hyatt Place Des Moines is well past time for a remodel and upgrade. Things were a bit messy, the kitchen area was messy (when wasn't serving), and a number of things were broken and/or missing. Especially in my room - plugs in didn't work, light shade broken, lights weren't working, sofa and furniture was scuffed and worn. WiFi was terrible, tv worked some of the time, and shower was either cold or scalding hot. Windows were dirty, and my room key had to be exchanged three times b/c it wouldn't work. Very few amenities and no snacks other than popcorn. Bar wasn't open. Workout room was popular and as sad as could be - two treadmills but only one worked but poorly (noise, squeaked). Overuse will cause it to be out of service soon. It was also stifling hot in the workout room - no fans. Update this place - location is pretty good and it has a great staff and some charm - just bare, old and outdated. I wont stay there again until some upgrades happen.

This hotel is old and dirty. The pictures of the property online are misleading. My first room had no hot water and there was a moldy bath mat in the shower. I was switched to a slightly better room, but it wasn’t great. The room had dingy window curtains and duvet, nasty looking toilet & shower, and scuffed up furniture. Do not stay here.

Hotel was dirty! When we check in there was dried feces on the bathroom floor of our room! The pool was dirty and only one elevator was working! Absolute worst hotel experience. We talked to the manager about our room and she said all she could do was take our parking off. If other hotels in the area weren’t sold out we would have moved hotels!

The hotel itself was nice and clean but my room was gross, had pink sticky stains on the carpet the bathroom floor was full of dirty shoe prints upon arrival, inside of the sink and shower was dirty. I don't recommend, also quite expensive for what you get and you have to pay for parking. Ide look elsewhere.

Room was absolutely disgusting. A huge stain on the couch. It was so dusty I had to wipe everything down with our Lysol wipes. The wash clothes in the room were supposedly clean with makeup stains on them and some form of brown spots on the other.

Our room 512 wasn't clean. There were someone else's sandles that were in the closet, there was strangers hair stuck to the shower walls, the tub wouldn't drain, the toilet seat was loose, then I spotted a chocolate chip along one of the walls in the room. Then the other room had what looked like cat food back in one of the corners. The staff was very friendly and kind the breakfast was well stocked and tasty. Good coffee. We just expected more out of the rooms.

Only thing worse than the WiFi which had 0 upload speed so can’t even login into secure sites was the elevators. Or lack thereof. When I complained to the manager, she offered to cancel my reservation for free knowing that there was an event going on and all the hotels were full. I expect better from a Hyatt.

Hotel’s parking ramp was full so we had to pay to park in one a couple blocks away and tote our luggage. We set the thermostat to 68 before we went to bed and it never cooled off. Woke up at 6am and it was 75 in our room. Called the front desk and she didn’t seem to concerned by it. When we checked out of the hotel our room was 78 degrees. Our friends that stayed on the same floor said their room never cooled off either and they were sweating all night. Nice and large rooms but very uncomfortable and hot stay for $200 a night.

The hotel location was great with its access to the Skywalk system. The staff were amazing & very helpful. The hotel looked great. Everything was very clean. And, breakfast was delicious! However, the beds were VERY uncomfortable. We hardly got any sleep. The mattresses and pillows were worn down. Plus, the beds creaked loudly with even the slightest move.

The hotel was in a beautiful old building, but very clean and our room was spacious with tall windows. The breakfast was delicious and had a large variety of food and drinls to choose from. There is an extra fee for the parking garage, but because it was a Sunday parking on the street was free. Beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our short stay.

The staff was great but the accommodations, not so much. Horrible mattress. It was like sleeping on an old mattress covered with plywood & a pillowtop mattress cover. Every time you move/roll over it crunched. It didn't matter that the bed was horrible because you won't sleep with all the street noise anyway. This was an expensive lesson. No more Hyatt's for us, my body can't handle it. Breakfast was good.

Hyatt Place Hotel in downtown Des Moines is the only place we stay when in town. The staff is amazing, friendly and so helpful giving us local info and hints as to what to do and where to eat. Our room is always clean with a lovely view of the area. The location is so convenient to concerts, museums, plays and baseball. We parked our car and walked. A nice workout room with great equipment and a pool just the right size for doing morning laps. The free breakfast is just what we needed to start our busy day. Thanks to the entire staff, we will be back.

During my recent stay. I had a disappointing experience with the housekeeping service. Despite requesting room cleaning three times from different staff members, my room was never cleaned. Each time I asked, I was assured that someone would come to clean, but it never happened. To make matters worse, we even ran out of toilet paper and had to request it ourselves. This lack of attention to cleanliness and service is unacceptable and significantly impacted my stay. I hope the management addresses this issue to ensure better service for future guests.

People would think that paying almost 250$ per night is an amount of money where you get decent service. Not here. After letting staff know that our shower was very low pressure, they said they will send someone, nobody came. They didn’t clean our room after the first night. Excuse “we are busy due to the state fair”. Oh sorry, I thought that’s why we were paying so much, to have service during a busy time. No, that wasn’t the case. Carpet was dirty, couch was filthy. Save yourself the money and go somewhere else. I will file a formal complaint with Hyatt.

Located in the downtown area, there is a decent amount of traffic and lot of commercial buildings. This hotel was close to the one where my convention was being held. The breakfast is great! The lack of affordable parking offered by the hotel is its downfall. $30 a day vs the hourly parking garage for blocks away that maxed out at $10. You would think as a hotel guest that they would try to give you a deal rather than trying to price gouge you for the convenience. The other parking garage was closer to the hotel my convention was at, so it made more sense to park down there and save money.

The hotel was nice and in a convenient location. Overall, the hotel is in decent shape, though the rooms could use a bit of an update. Just normal wear and tear. Nothing to be concerned about. Most of the places nearby close early so late night options are few. You can access the Skywalk from the second floor which was nice. Overall, a nice stay.

Minus one staff member who seemed genuinely warm, the others I interacted with did not seem pleased to be working. I booked a king size bed only to discover my room had two queen beds instead. The front desk did not prepare me for this upon check-in. The front desk was kind enough to accommodate a half-hour later check-out. The building was a little drab and not as modernized as some other downtown hotels in Des Moines. My room was spacious and comfortable, however, the bathroom lacked cleanliness which included a long dark hair I found on the back of the toilet. The breakfast had some nice offerings but the quality of food was average. There was very limited seating and most spots were taken, forcing people to awkwardly stand around and wait for a table. The elevators were extremely slow to arrive after pressing the button. As I was leaving the hotel, I heard another guest speaking to a staff member stating that his family wanted their money back and they “had already called the police.” Overall, an underwhelming stay and my least favorite hotel that I’ve experienced in downtown Des Moines.

I have stayed at many Hyatt's before and unfortionatly, this was the worst one I have stayed at. The shower made a noise like a car engine, and the shower pressure was either blasting or a drizzle. Breakfast was cold, coffee was empty and so were the creamers at 8:15. Parking was across the street and was charged 30 bucks a night in Iowa for parking!! Disappoinment and I not stay there again.
