The beach was a hike (downhill and then uphill back) to get to, which is fine for me normally, but I was traveling with a 70 year old, and it was too much. Don't stay here just for that beach. It is close to nicer beaches (that we didn't go to.)

The staff were very friendly, great breakfast buffet with Javier, Edgar, Elieth, and Allan the cook. Great omelettes and fresh fruit. The happy hour was fun with Andre and Daniel. The rooms were spacious, and the pool and hot tub were fabulous. The walk to the beach could be treacherous for some people, all downhill then all uphill. The white faced monkeys like to steal sugar and food so be cautious!

Restaurant staff was excellent. Hallways were dark and we had to use our phone lights to see at night. Appreciate golf cart service to get up/down the steep walk to the restaurant and pool. Construction noise outside our building started early.

This hotel is on a steep hill, but the staff is very helpful in getting around with the golf carts they have on-site. Access to the beach is contained within the property, although the beach itself is a little commercialized (non-hotel people offering chairs for rent and selling souvenirs). The restaurant was lovely and the hotel itself is not too far from some very nice restaurants. The room was also very nice. As the staff mention - BEWARE of monkeys!! They WILL enter your room if you do not lock the door. We were lucky to catch them before they took anything.

I would give this resort much better reviews, however, there is a horrible sewer smell present the majority of the time in the adult pool/family pool area, that occasionally blows into the restaurant /bar area.. it gets worse depending on the direction of the wind. It’s very unfortunate because the views, cleanliness, and service at Shana is fantastic! They also have a private beach with great families that provide services such as stand up paddle boarding, beach chairs, and umbrellas for reasonable prices.

Location is on a beach, they do provide kayak and other equipment for boating. Facility is really old, towels are worn and torn, food is decent, staff is very friendly, bars are stocked well. Pools are only cleaned in the morning

Shana by the beach is beautiful, the rooms are very spacious and clean, monkeys are everywhere, they come to the balcony and swing from one room to the other hoping to find an unlocked door. We saw 3 kinds, Squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys who kept jumping into the balcony and knocking the chairs. It was fun to watch. The included buffet breakfast is good, monkeys try to steal food so watch out, the staff is extra friendly, the 2 pools were nice. Beautiful place . Would love to go again.

Lets start by saying that the staff is nice and friendly. But, The hotel is nothing like the pictures, I booked it specifically because of the views, the rooms are not cleaned, BATHROOMS: are nasty, and broken, beds is really hard, electricity and water went off while I was in the shower, towels are not in good shape, the ends are all broken, I requested an Iron since there is non in the room and it was all dirty and it messed up my clothes, PARKING: is a nightmare, it was time for us to leave and there was a car blocking us and we had to wait almost 2 hrs for them to find the driver when there is a guy 24hr right where we parked and did not say anything to the people blocking us, RESTAURANT: looks like a school cafeteria, prices are high just like all places in manuel antonio, they included the tip in the check and still the server came after us walking asking for cash, we always leave good tips everywhere we go but just dont like being asked for it, specially when is added in the bill. BEACH: dont expect it to be there, you have to go down a hill and up and towels for the beach you have to get at pool area and make sure to give it back or you will be charged 20.00 x each. I paid 680.00 us for 2 nights which is not cheap and I was really expecting a nicer hotel.

Warren at the pool bar was amazing, and Daren was as well. They were both super friendly and helpful. The entire hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, I couldn’t have asked for a better staff. The hotel is beautiful! We loved the infinity pool and greenery on the property. My only complaint would be the dining service in the evening and cleanliness of the rooms. Our first room was not clean at all, the property moved us to a somewhat cleaner room. The second room was not the best either, the floor with filthy, and had a light unpleasant odor as well. I think the rooms could benefit from a deep clean and a good mopping.

Très déçu par l'état général de la chambre, qui soufre visiblement de l'humidité ambiante : moisissures sur les portes, bois gonflé qui empêche la fermeture... Manque d'entretien des salles de bain en particulier. Forte pente sur le terrain de l'hôtel, compensé partiellement par le personnel en voiturette de golf. Parmi les points positifs, très belle vue de notre balcon, et l'accès à la plage en contrebas. Perroquets et singes également visibles de l'hôtel.

1. The room was smelling of MOLD, we could not sleep, had allergic response - sneezing, itching and headache , tried turning the air condition "on" and "off", turning it on made it worse. I could not believe that a top rated hotel would be this bad. 2. The hotel says it has private access to the beach. While it was true, the access to the beach was very difficult and there was knee deep water heading to the beach shore. I Would rather spend my money on a hotel away from the beach and take a taxi to the beach. 3. Provided feedback to the hotel staff at check out. they didn't seem to take it seriously. 4. Breakfast was very good.

Great hotel I will be back. My only complaint was the air conditioner. I feel like they need another. One for the size of the room was very hard to get the temperature down to a normal range. The staff are amazing and it's in a beautiful location. I will be back.

Overall enjoyed our stay. Property is on a steep hill, which I enjoyed but may not be suitable for everyone. + Bed was comfortable, AC worked great and was quiet, balcony had a nice view, shower had good pressure, room was clean, pool looked nice but not really a pool person, free parking = Breakfast food was okay, staff were nice, no elevators to upper floor - Monkeys stealing food at breakfast (fun the first time and the staff does a good job at trying to scare them off), shower drain was really loud, bathroom was mostly clean but possibly in the middle of a remodel, walk to "Hidden Beach" was charming but the beach itself was covered in beach chairs for sell and loud music at 8am in the morning.

The location of the hotel was great. Very close to Manuel Antonio park, with gorgeous views of the ocean. The property amenities were wonderful. However, the rooms although spacious and clean were in need of remodeling.

Shana's location was excellent: close to a wonderful beach accessible from the property, and a short (though hilly) walk to Manuel Antonio town. Our party had two rooms with ocean views that were close together. They were, bright, clean, nicely appointed, and comfortable. There are two pool areas, but we only discovered the adult pool towards the end of our stay (would have used it more.) We really enjoyed the views from the open-air restaurant and witnessed monkeys there a few times. Overall, the food selection was good and whatever we ordered was tasty. We particularly liked the breakfast buffet. A shout out to Javier, Andre, Edgar, and Lizandro for their excellent service. Be sure to catch the beautiful sunset views from the property!

The resort and staff and accommodations at Shana by The Beach were absolutely fantastic. So friendly and kind, 24/7 front desk. Great restaurant and pools. Wonderful views! My room was HUGE, had everything I needed and a giant bathroom. They were so accommodating and the breakfast buffet was worth it! I would absolutely stay there again and again!

The property is beautiful and our room was lovely. The hotel provides beach access via a steep path to a public beach, where vendors rent lounge chairs and umbrellas and sell food and other items. Not private. The room TV is internet, not cable. You must connect to your own apps and a "casting" app costs $. Seems chintzy for an otherwise lovely and expensive hotel. Staff is wonderful. Nice pool area with adult pool. Views outstanding. Overall I would return.

The rooms, the pool, and the restaurant all deserve 5/5 stars. So does their guest services team who helped us book a couple of fun adventures (surfing lessons and a tour of Manual Antonio National Park). That said, overall I'm giving 4/5 stars because of a few misses on service: 1) we booked two rooms via hotels.com under the same reservation and the hotel staff didn't think to put our rooms near each other. Not even in the same building, which was inconvenient for our family of 6. They did their best to get us closer by the second day, which I appreciated, and which helps them retain 4/5 stars. Maybe I didn't add a note in my reservation requesting they hold rooms near each other, but IMHO I shouldn't have to; 2) they never found time to make up our room. We were there two nights, and they never knocked or anything. We even requested they do it while we went out, but nothing. Part of the reason we do hotel/resorts is to have our rooms serviced each day. And 3) they asked if I'd like to open a tab with the hotel and then it didn't seem to work at the restaurant and they wanted my signature at checkout as well instead of just letting us leave the keys in our room and go. That makes me sound lazy, and frankly, I'm looking for a 5/5 hotel to do everything in their power to let me be as lazy as I'd like to be. We had a great time, and we'd probably go back. Property was kept very clean. Staff was excellent. Manuel Antonio is beautiful. Walk to beach was 125 stairs - we found it fine. Daily wildlife was fun to watch. Would definitely come back.

The manager and some of the staff were friendly, which we appreciated during our stay. We paid for the spa, lunch, and dinner package for our 5-day visit, and overall enjoyed the amenities. On our last day, we decided to purchase a few drinks offsite to enjoy by the pool. However, a waiter approached us rather rudely, stating that he would “let us finish our last drink” but would not tolerate outside beverages at the pool. Staff were very friendly, responsive and genuinely made you feel welcome. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are a little bit of paradise. The beach is a short walk down a jungle path and it is also lovely to lie by the pool and watch sloths, Toucans and Red Macaws in the trees as well as have the monkeys come by for a more boisterous visit. This is a place to come and relax.

The first night the Junior suite we booked had very bad damp, musty smell. Made it hard to sleep, notified the staff and were able to give us a different room. We were there on Christmas eve till the day after Christmas. Breakfast was great both days,the Christmas dinner needed more options than f8sh, chicken and veggies especially at the price point. We opted to go out to a nearby nearby location with a full menu options. The Shana by the Beach staff are their best assets.

We enjoyed our stay at Shana, the monkeys that live in the trees nearby being regular visitors to the hotel pool and balconies. There is easy access to the beach from the hotel. The pool bar offers 2-4-1 drinks every afternoon and serves very good Woodfired pizzas, burgers, steaks and local cuisine. The small town of Manuel Antonio is around 0.5mike up a steep track, but taxis were easy enough to arrange from the hotel to there and further afield into Quepos. Watching the sunset from the pool bar with pina colada was memorable.

The views from Shana by the Beach were stunning, and the beach adjacent to the hotel, Playa Biesanz, was lovey and not overly crowded. The winding, narrow road leading to the hotel is certainly not for the faint of heart, and we were never brave enough to venture out after dark because of it. Additionally, the hill on which Shana by the Beach property sits is very steep, making walking it on foot challenging for the able-bodied and I would think impossible for those needing accessible accommodations. Hotel staff do have golf carts for transporting guests and luggage, but except at check-in, they were never visible to us until we had already arrived on foot to our destination (pool, restaurant, beach or registration desk). The room in which we stayed was not as clean or well appointed as I would have expected. The tile floors throughout seemed dirty and in desperate need of mopping, which never occurred during our stay. The seal on the shower door was loose, which led to the bathroom floor being dangerously wet after our showers, and despite being booked for four guests, we were repeatedly given an insufficient amount of towels, hand towels and wash cloths. There are no beach amenities offered by the hotel, but locals “staff” the beach area, offering chair and umbrellas as well as kayaks and stand up paddle boards for rent. (Be sure to take cash—colones or US dollars are accepted—if you’d like these). It was nice, but not quite as nice as expected.

Very nice hotel with close access to the beach, where you can rent chairs, kayaks, and snorkel. It is a very steep walk up the hill to the main road where there are several restaurants, coffee shop, and supermarket. We loved everything about the hotel, especially the constant entertainment of the monkeys! If you came to Costa Rica to enjoy the wildlife, you'll be very happy at this hotel. Our room was very nice and clean, the breakfast was delicious and there were lots of options to chose from. The pools had a beautiful views of the greenery and the ocean. Only downside is that the hotel is about 20-25 mins from town where all the restaurants and shops are, and it's quite the hike with the area having big hills and no sidewalks. But if you're the kind of person who is happy just having the hotel food, this won't be a problem. There are so many food options on the menu. I definitely recommend staying at this hotel!

The property itself was excellent. Built on the side of a mountain, walking was difficult due to steep incline. There is no transportation to the beach, which is disappointing. Walking in the steep inclines and numerous stairs down to the beach discourages older people from enjoying the beach.

The resort is definitely nice. The staff is EXCELLENT! They are so nice and accommodating. The reasons why I wouldn’t stay there again are due to our preferences. Everything is very far away. To get from the room to restaurant, pool, etc you have to walk outdoors on a big hill. Nothing is convenient at this resort. To get to the beach you literally have to hike. It’s a beautiful hike but not very relaxing. If you stay here, make sure you have a car because there isn’t anything within comfortable walking distance.

Shana's location was excellent: close to a wonderful beach accessible from the property, and a short (though hilly) walk to Manuel Antonio town. Our party had two rooms with ocean views that were close together. They were, bright, clean, nicely appointed, and comfortable. There are two pool areas, but we only discovered the adult pool towards the end of our stay (would have used it more.) We really enjoyed the views from the open-air restaurant and witnessed monkeys there a few times. Overall, the food selection was good and whatever we ordered was tasty. We particularly liked the breakfast buffet. A shout out to Javier, Andre, Edgar, and Lizandro for their excellent service. Be sure to catch the beautiful sunset views from the property!

I loved the view and daily afternoon monkey visits. Breakfast was good and plenty choices, fresh fruits, local dishes and everything was delicious. Be carefull at the bar! They ripping turist off! I order drink that I didn't like, so I ask to add some coke. For splash of coke I was charged $3.50 like for the whole bottle of coke, but I didn't get the rest of the bottle nor get notified about extra charge. Also our room had joined door and seems that lots of room have that. We could hear people from the other room, last night we had some young people and didn't sleep till midnight! Amazing beach and great place for snorkle.

The rooms were spacious, and the pool and hot tub were fabulous. The walk to the beach could be treacherous for some people, all downhill then all uphill. The white faced monkeys like to steal sugar and food so be cautious!

The Jungle view was beautiful. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was nice and helpful. The pool was lovely. The whole snapper at their restaurant was my favorite meal of the whole trip.We indulged in the spa at the resort and I had a great facial and massage. A wonderful experience at this resort overall.

The hotel overall was great. We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were a little old & plain. We did observe portions of the hotel closed for refurbishing. The breakfast & dinner were excellent. Including entertainment from the monkeys. The staff was wonderful especially Kevin the cart driver. He always seemed to be present when needed.

Beautiful views and nice beach access (you will have to make the trek up and down the stairs). Breakfast was tasty and offered plenty of opportunity to see the local monkeys. Staff did an excellent job of keeping them away from people.

Beautiful property and wonderful staff. Great location but be aware it's VERY steep on the property. Luckily they have golf carts that can take you up and down. It's quite a steep hike to the beach too. Beds were very hard and the bathrooms were a bid odd, with things falling off the wall, like towel holders and the toilet paper holder. Breakfast was good. It's quite a steep hike to the beach too. Beds were very hard and the bathrooms were a bid odd, with things falling off the wall, like towel holders and the toilet paper holder. Breakfast was good. Most staff were super friendly and helpful.

Good location in Manuel Antonio but you can't really walk to anywhere else to eat as it is on a steep hill so you need to get a taxi to get to food or shops but there are ubers. Staff really helpful. pool is good and the breakfast is excellent.

Property was beautiful and felt very secluded. The concierge was super friendly and always available for a ride up the hill! The only downfall was the hot tub was not hot at all and was used mainly by small children. Otherwise the property was perfect for our family and our stay.
