Kinnitty Castle Hotel

We booked this hotel last minute when we saw a YouTube video about the Castle. I am so glad we added this stop to our trip. Once we were checked into our beautiful room, we explored the castle and found the Library Bar. It was a cold evening, so we enjoyed drinks and dinner by the fire. We loved everything about our stay. The staff was helpful, and the other guests were so friendly. We can't wait to come back!

Really nice hotel, very old but charming, full of character, good food, rooms were clean & comfortable, will definitely return Didn’t realise there was so much to do in the grounds, clay pigeon shooting, horse riding, etc. no mention of any of this on the app when booking !

charming castle, it not feel like a hotel. food and drink was great. I wish we had more time and that there was the ability to have a mountain bike delivered there as there were some great trails just from the parking lot of the castle

Kinnitty Castle is a magical place to stay. The staff is warm and inviting, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the common areas are lovely. The beds are HUGE and very comfortable; the "throne room" has the most amazing soaking tub and was a welcome amenity after a chilly, rainy hike. The hotel provides a brochure with history of the castle; each room is named for a historical person who is affiliated with the castle and there is a bio for each. There are hiking trails (including a fun fairy trail) around the beautiful, forested property as well as other fun activity options: whiskey tasting, archery, and I believe you can arrange for horse riding. The hotel is currently transitioning to new ownership and they are making strides to refresh the hotel; although there were a few very minor areas of concern (wear & tear, paint, etc), we did not feel like those areas were a negative, we felt like they enhanced the ambiance. We dined in the Dungeon bar both nights and the food was very good. It can be a little chilly down there, so bring a light sweater or wrap; again- it added to the ambiance. For breakfast, we dined in the main dining room which is very lovely and the food was delicious; we were even blessed by a beautiful rainbow! The staff, especially Aoife, was so excellent. Make sure you book a whiskey tasting with Connor and the lovely afternoon tea! We stayed two nights and it wasn't enough; we will return to the castle on our next visit to Ireland.

What a great little spot in the center of the island. We feel like we found a hidden gem--great library lounge, the Dungeon Bar served great food, the staff was amazing. Our room was comfortable and the grounds were an opportunity for adventure.

The castle felt authentic. Dungeon Bar was fun and staff were friendly. Loved the castle cat - Bootsie!

I loved every second spent at this amazing castle! There were hiking and biking trails, lovely reading rooms and amazing nooks and hidden spots to explore. My sister and I shared the BIGGEST bed I’ve ever seen, and we enjoyed a small tea service one day. I 100% recommend this lovely place.

The castle is wonderful. It’s really fun to explore the property and the grounds. The dungeon is exceptionally good. A+++

Very neat accommodation. Grounds are fantastic. Service was good. Room was dirty. Had red crayon on wall and a coffee spill. Bathroom floor needs a good scrub and all corners had dirt and dust in them.

Family of 3 stayed in standard room. 2 double beds pushed together. This room was in serious need of a deep cleaning. Windows were very dirty in the room and bathroom. I do not think they have been cleaned for years. No privacy curtain on bathroom window just a sheer curtain nailed into wall. Bathroom needs to be scrubbed. Mirror was rotting on the bottom of frame. Cobwebs and spiders on ceiling in bathroom. Door frames had cobwebs/dust bunnies all around. For the amount paid, I would have hoped for a clean space. The experience was decent because of the woods around the castle. It was amazing and beautiful walking through the forest trails. I would go back just for that.

We had a lovely stay in Kinnity Castle. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The TV in the room was tiny and badly positioned to view from one half of the bed. Breakfast was lovely but we were disappointed in the quality of the dinner. I had the prawn starter and there were 6 prawns that were of poor quality….looked like the frozen ones bought in supermarkets. I also had the chicken curry and it was just average.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our stay. The restaurant staff seemed inexperienced and not attentive. It was extremely noisy on our top floor room until about 2am. The other guests were not considerate as we could hear conversations and fighting through the late night. Around 1am we were all woken by the strong scent of cigarette smoke coming into our room. As non-smokers, that is really irritating. It was really uncomfortable. We’re not sure where it came from. The shower curtain has a pink hue on the bottom which is bacteria/mold and should be replaced. Having come directly from a wonderful authentic castle stay the night before, we really wish we would have done our research before booking.

The property was great. Staying in an old castle was a cool experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The only downside was the room which smelled musty and the windows had no screens so we had to be mindful of the bugs when airing it out. The bed was tiny, but comfortable.

I totally understand this is a very old,beautiful building which was fantastic to stay in as a Christmas treat for my family from Canada. However, this is no excuse for the horrible sickening smell of urine as soon as we entered the bedroom. The room appeared reasonably clean but on looking closer, it was nothing short of dirty in some areas. Bed was clean but on a slope . Breakfast was good and staff were pleasant and helpful.

Ficamos no quarto Owney e a limpeza estava péssima. Havia, pelo menos, 5 aranhas que conseguimos visualizar. Os cantos com muita poeira e no geral, uma impressão de descuido e de abandono. A experiência do castelo em si é bem interessante, mas não nos hospedaríamos mais nele.

Unadjustable Heat was cranked in the room. Had to Open all windows. Windows only opened maybe 4 inches. Smell of sewer gas came in from one near bed. The drains from the bathroom seemed to run down on the outside exterior of the building and one must have had a leak. Other than that the place was beautiful.

The grounds were beautiful, the food was pretty good and the people were super friendly but the rooms really needed some upgrading they were run down the faucets were loose the heat was constantly on with no AC! The room had a weird smell. Not one of our better hotels that we stayed at in Ireland and without upgrading I probably wouldn't again.

The castle atmosphere was great. Our room was clean. Breakfast was great

The tv reception was almost non existent , I would start watching a show and next thing the picture would break up .Otherwise we had a pleasant stay.The bed was awesome

Wow! This place is beautiful and the staff are very welcoming. The rooms were huge and luxurious. The ground were beautiful with quiet walking trails. The breakfast was delicious. The bathtub was large and perfect. So glad we stayed there.

The room was stunning but it was so hot and there was no option to adjust the temperature. Dinner was a challenge. You had to flag down the staff for cutlery after they dropped off the food. Waitstaff did not know the menu and could not advise what was in an item or even what items are being served. Steak was under cooked and the staff didn't come to check on our table until my husband was finished eating and at that point, i had eaten what i could. If we had been staing longer, i would have found alternative dinner restaurants before i would go back to the Dungeon Bar again.

This was by far our favorite stay while we were in Ireland. The staff was absolutely the best!! Vicki and Connor were so kind and accommodating. We had such a lovely time and wanted to really stay longer. I wanted to stay at a authentic castle and that's the way it felt. It was a dream come true for me and my husband. We will be back.

Sadly, not the same great experience we had in 2019 which is what brought us back. I heard that it was under new ownership, and that things had downhill but decided to see for ourselves. The property is still awesome and we love the authentic feeling of the house and buildings but the staff just didn't seem like they wanted to be there, let alone provide great service. The check in girl send like she was eager to leave for the day and the dungeon dining experience was the worst we had in Ireland. My husband has to get up twice to ask for things that should have been caught by our servers (silverware, the check) It was very quiet and there was maybe two other tables well into their meals so it's not like it was a busy night or anything. The first server to finally great is just first out asked 'if we knew what we wanted for our main course'. No drink order, no hello. I had to explain that we hadn't even gotten drinks yet and that we actually wanted appetizers before our main entrees. The overall feeling I got was that they were very young, inexperienced people working there now that have not had the proper training nor management. We live Kinnitty and really hope this aspect improves.

The check in staff did not offer help with our luggage. As it is an old castle getting to our room involved several flights of stairs.

Conor was amazing at check in - couldn’t do enough. Sabina, was delightful, friendly and again, couldn’t do enough. Service in Dungeon Bar, a bit hit or miss. No plate under Chowder, didn’t know what a finger bowl was for chicken wings - had to explain. Table sprayed and cleaned whilst food was on the table. Need a wee bit of training, easily fixed!

The grounds and rooms were wonderful. The staff was also very kind. When we got there they did not at first see our booking which was stressful, but it eventually got sorted. Our first room’s toilet also wasn’t functioning, so then we got moved to a new, upgraded room. They were very nice about it and handled it well, but we were in a time crunch trying to squeeze in as much sleep as possible and the issues set us back by at least an hour which wasn’t ideal.

The Castle and grounds are amazing as are all the staff!!!

Such an amazing experience, the staff were so kind and organized horse back riding for us in a days notice. They helped make our experience so special in Ireland. Beautiful view of the horses out front from our room. So lovely!

Service was fantastic! Everyone was very inviting and friendly. We stayed at the castle Dec 30th. Vivian at the front desk was great, she took our families on a ghost tour throughout the castle. The bartender, wait staff and overnight porter were great as well!

Lovely old castle badly in need of cleaning and comfort upgrades. Needs pretty big financial infusion. Staff working there were good people. Grounds are lovely. It’s such an out of the way place. We did not have a car so it was both difficult and very expensive to get there or go anywhere.

The property was amazing, lots of fun walking areas. Can’t beat staying in an actual castle!

I mean, a Castle!! It was so unique and beautiful. We felt right at home from the moment we entered the property. We wandered around the castle, took a Fairy Trail with wooden sculptures, and fairies in the trees. A walk along the river was incredible with all the fall colors, red deer and horses in the field!

We loved the experience of staying in a genuine castle! It was a beautiful property with trails for walking and wildlife wandering on site with horses! The only thing I’d change were the sheers on the bathroom window (felt a little exposed. The staff were lovely and we would definitely stay again and longer to enjoy the area more!
