We enjoyed our stay here. The property was quiet. The jungle and bird noises were not, which was an appeal for us. We sat on the patio and saw many different bird species at various times of the day. The restaurant was fabulous. I would describe it as comida tipica, which is what we like. The best part was the restaurant staff—friendly and hospitable. The room itself was dated and needed some updating in terms of general maintenance and comfort. We were in unit 4 near the restaurant. I can’t speak for other units. The pool is lovely, though some more comfortable seating—other than iron chaise lounges—would be nice. The views are gorgeous and this property has good access to the national parque for volcan Arenal and access to the Observatory Lodge for many trails and a good lunch option. It’s about a 25 min drive to downtown La Fortuna, which was great for us. If you like crazy, busy touristy places, then this isn’t your jam. Check in was easy and Fabian very welcoming.

I was super disappointed when we arrived to find out the hot tub was not working. The reason I booked this place was for the hot tub....... We stayed 2 nights and it was not as I had hoped.

La habitación era bastante amplia, con una cama queen y otra individual. La limpieza muy bien, tanto la habitación, el baño, la ropa de cama, una mesa interna; todo bien limpio, e igualmente se realizó la limpieza de la habitación. En el baño solo jabón, nada de shampoo. Se disponía de un pequeño refrigerador y cafetera, azúcar y café. Al baño le faltaba ventilación e iluminación natural ya que no tenía ninguna ventana hacia el exterior. La vista desde la habitación hacia el lago Arenal, genial. Esta habitación estaba también frente a la piscina, lo que hacía más agradable la vista. La vista al Volcán Arenal no era directa debido a algunos árboles. Esta habitación tenía la particularidad de tener una puerta clausurada hacia un área de trabajadores del hotel, por lo que la bulla ingresaba a la habitación. La atención en el restaurante (pequeño pero suficiente para el hotel) muy buena, con mucha amabilidad. El jacuzzi es por hora programada, y una pareja se me adelantó (al parecer no sabían que era con reserva), pero muy amablemente en el hotel les explicaron, y se retiraron. Alrededor del hotel todo muy tranquilo, sin bulla de otros sitios. El ambiente de montaña genial, fresco, con el sonido de algunos animales. Volvería.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay!!! Very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast!!! Onsite restaurant. Outdoor pool which was well kept. The ONLY downside was the road getting to and leaving the B&B. You have to drive carefully, a lot of potholes. With that being said, I would ABSOLUTELY stay at this lovely B&B again!!!

This was a Gem. Best view in La Fortuna. The owners are the nicest people you will ever meet. The restaurent and the people working there were the highlight opf our stay in La Fortuna. a B&B with a storyline and history behind it. The road to Nepenthe is very rough but the views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal are unsurpassed. The Phoenix Restaurant is wonderful, with great service and great food. They would do well to supply the rooms with more kitchen amenities (paper towels or cloth napkins) and a hairdryer, and renovation should be in the near future. But the bed was very comfortable and it was a great jumping-off point for Arenal Volcano National Park, and the various hot springs and waterfalls at La Fortuna. We’d definitely come back!

Great view. Staff were sweet and helpful. Massage on-site was top-tier. Room was comfortable but ants lined counter of kitchen all the way across to pantry. Noticed after they invaded our snacks. 4x4 a MUST.

Wonderful experience! A perfect romantic getaway! The spacious room allowed us to spread out and feel at home. The pool and observation deck were just steps from our room. The on-site restaurant provided wonderful breakfasts, great pizza and meals to order. Be sure to get a 4x4 or drive slow up the mountain.

We stayed 3 nights and over all I’m giving 9, it could be a 10! The service was very helpful, Joel switched our room because the one they gave us was not what we booked. The casita was huge, with an amazing view, lots of hot water, floor fans, and super quiet. The pool was a great added benefit. Where it fell short, the kitchen very basic, but workable. The fridge had issues, there are no lamps or nightstands, no hangers or even rods for them. Bathroom a bit dull and dark. A coat a paint and a trip to Ikea would solve all. Breakfast is served down the hill an easy walk, The Phoenix, is more than enough and they do dinner.. try the custom made pizza!

I stayed there in November, and the views completely won me over. The hotel is in a fairly rural area, and the road going uphill is quite rough, so having a 4×4 with high clearance is definitely recommended. My room was small and not soundproof, so you can hear your neighbors and the office. It also absorbed a noticeable fuel-oil smell from the nearby parking area or building, which took away from the otherwise beautiful natural surroundings. The views on the lake and a huge variety of birds outside are amazing.

Room was great, very clean with excellent views. We awoke each morning to the sound of several different birds and even saw Toucans. Jose gave us a great recommendation for lunch upon our departure. Only downside was the road up is rough (we used 4wheel drive).

La ubicación es buena y las vistas desde la propiedad son increíbles. Nuestra villa (n. 7) necesita arreglos, por ejemplo los baños. También tienen un problema por la noche ya que aparecen muchísimos insectos alrededor de la cocina (arañas, hormigas, etc).

We enjoyed our stay here. The property was quiet. The jungle and bird noises were not, which was an appeal for us. We sat on the patio and saw many different bird species at various times of the day. The restaurant was fabulous. I would describe it as comida tipica, which is what we like. The best part was the restaurant staff—friendly and hospitable. The room itself was dated and needed some updating in terms of general maintenance and comfort. We were in unit 4 near the restaurant. I can’t speak for other units. The pool is lovely, though some more comfortable seating—other than iron chaise lounges—would be nice. The views are gorgeous and this property has good access to the national parque for volcan Arenal and access to the Observatory Lodge for many trails and a good lunch option. It’s about a 25 min drive to downtown La Fortuna, which was great for us. If you like crazy, busy touristy places, then this isn’t your jam. Check in was easy and Fabian very welcoming.

Not the smoothest of steep roads up the hill but well worth it when you get there. Takes about ten minutes off the main road so not handy if you are heading in and out all the time but so secluded and quiet when you are there. The view alone is worth the effort. The spacious room was more than adequate.

La habitación era bastante amplia, con una cama queen y otra individual. La limpieza muy bien, tanto la habitación, el baño, la ropa de cama, una mesa interna; todo bien limpio, e igualmente se realizó la limpieza de la habitación. En el baño solo jabón, nada de shampoo. Se disponía de un pequeño refrigerador y cafetera, azúcar y café. Al baño le faltaba ventilación e iluminación natural ya que no tenía ninguna ventana hacia el exterior. La vista desde la habitación hacia el lago Arenal, genial. Esta habitación estaba también frente a la piscina, lo que hacía más agradable la vista. La vista al Volcán Arenal no era directa debido a algunos árboles. Esta habitación tenía la particularidad de tener una puerta clausurada hacia un área de trabajadores del hotel, por lo que la bulla ingresaba a la habitación. La atención en el restaurante (pequeño pero suficiente para el hotel) muy buena, con mucha amabilidad. El jacuzzi es por hora programada, y una pareja se me adelantó (al parecer no sabían que era con reserva), pero muy amablemente en el hotel les explicaron, y se retiraron. Alrededor del hotel todo muy tranquilo, sin bulla de otros sitios. El ambiente de montaña genial, fresco, con el sonido de algunos animales. Volvería.

I stayed there in November, and the views completely won me over. The hotel is in a fairly rural area, and the road going uphill is quite rough, so having a 4×4 with high clearance is definitely recommended. My room was small and not soundproof, so you can hear your neighbors and the office. It also absorbed a noticeable fuel-oil smell from the nearby parking area or building, which took away from the otherwise beautiful natural surroundings. The views on the lake and a huge variety of birds outside are amazing.

Room was great, very clean with excellent views. We awoke each morning to the sound of several different birds and even saw Toucans. Jose gave us a great recommendation for lunch upon our departure. Only downside was the road up is rough (we used 4wheel drive).

The road to Nepenthe is very rough but the views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal are unsurpassed. The Phoenix Restaurant is wonderful, with great service and great food. They would do well to supply the rooms with more kitchen amenities (paper towels or cloth napkins) and a hairdryer, and renovation should be in the near future. But the bed was very comfortable and it was a great jumping-off point for Arenal Volcano National Park, and the various hot springs and waterfalls at La Fortuna. We’d definitely come back!

We stayed 3 nights and over all I’m giving 9, it could be a 10! The service was very helpful, Joel switched our room because the one they gave us was not what we booked. The casita was huge, with an amazing view, lots of hot water, floor fans, and super quiet. The pool was a great added benefit. Where it fell short, the kitchen very basic, but workable. The fridge had issues, there are no lamps or nightstands, no hangers or even rods for them. Bathroom a bit dull and dark. A coat a paint and a trip to Ikea would solve all. Breakfast is served down the hill an easy walk, The Phoenix, is more than enough and they do dinner.. try the custom made pizza!

Estuvimos acá por nuestra luna de miel. Sin lugar a dudas ha sido una grata experiencia. Está muy lejos de todo, sin embargo eso permite que conectes con la selva y la naturaleza de un manera asombrosa. Nuestra estadía no pudo estar completa sin la amabilidad de Fabián Acuña, quien fue quien nos recibió, nos ayudó a hacer tours y estuvo muy al pendiente de nosotros, sin lugar a dudas lejos de un simple trabajador lo pude considerar un amigo. Que siempre estuvo preocupado y considerando cualquier detalle hasta nuestra partida no solo del hotel si no del aeropuerto. Mil gracias Nepenthe por la experiencia tan agradable y sobre todo por la atención de Fabián.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay!!! Very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast!!! Onsite restaurant. Outdoor pool which was well kept. The ONLY downside was the road getting to and leaving the B&B. You have to drive carefully, a lot of potholes. With that being said, I would ABSOLUTELY stay at this lovely B&B again!!!

The restaurent and the people working there were the highlight opf our stay in La Fortuna. a B&B with a storyline and history behind it. Wonderful experience! A perfect romantic getaway! The spacious room allowed us to spread out and feel at home. The pool and observation deck were just steps from our room. Important thing is the access road to the property. You need a high clearance vehicle (SUV) to drive on the 2km none-paved hilly road. Property is generally okay with a nice view. Breakfast is good from their own restaurant but not the expensive pizza for dinner they made on pre cooked crust.

We enjoyed our stay here. The property was quiet. The jungle and bird noises were not, which was an appeal for us. We sat on the patio and saw many different bird species at various times of the day. The restaurant was fabulous. I would describe it as comida tipica, which is what we like. The best part was the restaurant staff—friendly and hospitable. The room itself was dated and needed some updating in terms of general maintenance and comfort. We were in unit 4 near the restaurant. I can’t speak for other units. The pool is lovely, though some more comfortable seating—other than iron chaise lounges—would be nice. The views are gorgeous and this property has good access to the national parque for volcan Arenal and access to the Observatory Lodge for many trails and a good lunch option. It’s about a 25 min drive to downtown La Fortuna, which was great for us. If you like crazy, busy touristy places, then this isn’t your jam. Check in was easy and Fabian very welcoming.

La habitación era bastante amplia, con una cama queen y otra individual. La limpieza muy bien, tanto la habitación, el baño, la ropa de cama, una mesa interna; todo bien limpio, e igualmente se realizó la limpieza de la habitación. En el baño solo jabón, nada de shampoo. Se disponía de un pequeño refrigerador y cafetera, azúcar y café. Al baño le faltaba ventilación e iluminación natural ya que no tenía ninguna ventana hacia el exterior. La vista desde la habitación hacia el lago Arenal, genial. Esta habitación estaba también frente a la piscina, lo que hacía más agradable la vista. La vista al Volcán Arenal no era directa debido a algunos árboles. Esta habitación tenía la particularidad de tener una puerta clausurada hacia un área de trabajadores del hotel, por lo que la bulla ingresaba a la habitación. La atención en el restaurante (pequeño pero suficiente para el hotel) muy buena, con mucha amabilidad. El jacuzzi es por hora programada, y una pareja se me adelantó (al parecer no sabían que era con reserva), pero muy amablemente en el hotel les explicaron, y se retiraron. Alrededor del hotel todo muy tranquilo, sin bulla de otros sitios. El ambiente de montaña genial, fresco, con el sonido de algunos animales. Volvería.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay!!! Very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast!!! Onsite restaurant. Outdoor pool which was well kept. The ONLY downside was the road getting to and leaving the B&B. You have to drive carefully, a lot of potholes. With that being said, I would ABSOLUTELY stay at this lovely B&B again!!!

The road to Nepenthe is very rough but the views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal are unsurpassed. The Phoenix Restaurant is wonderful, with great service and great food. They would do well to supply the rooms with more kitchen amenities (paper towels or cloth napkins) and a hairdryer, and renovation should be in the near future. But the bed was very comfortable and it was a great jumping-off point for Arenal Volcano National Park, and the various hot springs and waterfalls at La Fortuna. We’d definitely come back!

We stayed 3 nights and over all I’m giving 9, it could be a 10! The service was very helpful, Joel switched our room because the one they gave us was not what we booked. The casita was huge, with an amazing view, lots of hot water, floor fans, and super quiet. The pool was a great added benefit. Where it fell short, the kitchen very basic, but workable. The fridge had issues, there are no lamps or nightstands, no hangers or even rods for them. Bathroom a bit dull and dark. A coat a paint and a trip to Ikea would solve all. Breakfast is served down the hill an easy walk, The Phoenix, is more than enough and they do dinner.. try the custom made pizza!

The staff made the entire trip special. Juan & Luisa, the owners of the Phoenix Restaurant are incredibly friendly. There was no hot water however, so just be prepared for that. The views can not be beaten in Fortuna. You oversee the lake and the volcano and the property is full of beautiful plants, flowers and wildlife. Make sure to rent an suv or something with off road capabilities because to get to the hotel you have to trek up a gravel road up hill. But it’s worth every second of it. The views are the best in Fortruna.
