We were locked in the compound and had to ask for gate to be opened as they dont give keys. One tiny pillow each and no more available when i asked. Room was run down and has exposed wires one bedside table to share between 2 people. One faulty lamp with no shade. Almost in the flightpath of airport so noise - with no pillow to put on my head. The airport shuttle stops at 13:00 Ive stayed in plenty of hotels in Costa Rica and this was near the bottom in terms of stay quality. The staff were polite and friendly.

The front desk staff were outstanding. The food was freshly cooked and very good. They included the taxi to the airport in the price for the hotel! Not much to see or do within walking distance of the property but had a pool, restaurant and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

This place has a private gate that once you drive through, you enter into a quaint setting with beautiful flowering trees! I was completely surprised because the drive to the area was on busy streets. I thought there would only be unsafe street parking, but there was ample parking behind the gate. The pool was nice, the staff was very friendly, and dinner was good. The bathroom was spacious and the lighting was good. Beds were comfortable. I would feel safe having this as home base while exploring nearby. However we vacationed in La Fortuna and only used this as a quick stay before a flight home.

The hotel staff is very nice. The food at the hotel is good and the price is reasonable. The area inside of the hotel, it’s nice and comfortable. But outside of the hotel, it is a relatively poor area. It’s nice that free shuttle to airport is provided (even though we had to leave at 4:30 am) and breakfast is provided too.

Stayed for one short night right before my flight breakfast was great. It was nice to hang out by the pool and the pool table where they had little board games and stuff like that - staff was very friendly and helpful. The shuttle got me to the airport on time I would stay again

Great place with a pool and great little restaurant. Breakfast was included and was very hearty. The staff were excellent, and the place is very clean. The only downside is that it is directly beneath the flight path so you have to get used to hearing planes overhead, but not all night. Excellent airport transfer time with it being only 4 kms away from SJO, but if going during rush hour in the morning, give yourself extra time (it took us 40 minutes to get to SJO due to traffic). We would definitely stay again.

The shuttle is only for return, not pickup from the airport. I would have booked somewhere else for that reason alone. I understood transportation to be for pickup. Once onsite, it was great for an affordable airport hotel.

Cute hotel creates a little tropical oasis in the middle of an inner-city area with lush landscaping and resort-like amenities on a smaller scale. Felt safe with the gate. Rooms could use some upgrades, but were spacious and clean. Convenient location close to airport and they even offer airport shuttle service. The included breakfast was more than adequate and served on a cozy outdoor patio. Can’t beat it for the price. I would return here.

Nothing extravagant. Very noisey due to airplane route for takeoff and landing right overhead. Very dirty pool that was NOT useable. Place meeds cleaning up but rooms were OK. Long congested ride ride from airport. All in all it was cheap and was a place to stay for 2/3 the price.

I stayed one night after arrival in San Jose before flying locally the next day. The pluses were that the room was clean and cool (minus the black mold on some of the walls), and the people who work there are extra kind and attentive. A full Costa Rican breakfast was included. The price was super reasonable and the hotel was in reach of plenty of food deliveries. The owner’s daughter drove me to the airport the next day and was lovely. The minuses were that the area around the hotel wasn’t super safe. There was a large heavy gate protecting the property and when certain questionable folks walked by outside there was a staff hustle to get it closed. The property, though full of heart, potential, and soul, was rough around the edges: the gift store was like a 1980s time capsule and had a collection of odd dusty things, and the pool area was crumbly with the pool itself cloudy and of questionable swim-worthiness. A good scrub and paint and the place would be really cute. Above all, for an airport overnight, a decent place to stay.

The entire property is neglected. The pics online are obviously from many years ago. The paint is peeling off everything including the pool. There were weeds and dying foliage around the whole property and the bathrooms, specifically the shower was dirty, moldy and old.

We stay a last night of our trip close to airport, the place was what we need , basic But clean. Service good, breakfast typical Costa Rican , good coffee and Fruits It’s value for the price . We would come back ( One suggestion should have more clothes hangers and Shampoo + Conditioner would be nice )

Let me start by saying the staff is amazing and so nice; however, there were bugs in the room and dead bugs in the fan. We stayed in one of the rooms that sleep 5 with my family and the beds were extremely squeaky and uncomfortable. The pool was extremely cloudy and there were ants in the breakfast cereal.

We really enjoyed the outdoor lounge/game area next to the pool. And we really enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. The room was bare bones, no decor. One pillow per bed. But, that being said, it was cool, clean, and comfortable. There was a bit of an ant problem in our room. We let the host know, and she was going to get it taken care of. Also a little misleading that it is an “airport hotel”. It is actually about a 20 min. drive to the airport.

We arrived after 7 pm and the staff at the reception area were so friendly and accommodating. We had not eaten supper and even though their restaurant was closed they made us a delicious fish. rice & beans, plus veggies dinner as well as fresh fruit drinks! Great experience, plus they also found us a personal tour guide to take us to Cartago to see some of the places of interest then onto our next stay! Thanks so much everyone.

I rarely leave reviews even when an experience is subpar, but felt the need to review Hotel Brillasol specifically because of the receptionist who was present when I arrived. I was taken aback by how rude he was. Right off the bat he seemed frustrated when I addressed him in Spanish (I’m not fluent, but certainly proficient and able to communicate). He spoke back to me in English, which was completely fine, except for the fact that he clearly didn’t understand my English very well. I arrived late (just after 11p), and requested an early shuttle at 4 or 415am because my tickets for my AM flight requested I arrive at 415. He told me “one hour is better”. I told him I would like to be there at the time my ticket recommended—415–and he seemed to agree/understand. There were essentially no lights outside of reception, and he gave me incorrect instructions about where my room was before handing me the key and telling me to go. It took me several minutes to actually locate the room, and I had difficulty with the key once I did. I tried turning it both directions, and it would simply turn three times both ways without unlocking. I wasn’t given instructions about the lock. When I went back for help, he looked at me like I was stupid, threw his hands up and said “¡Ay, Dios!”. He angrily followed me to my room and unlocked the door.

I arrived late (just after 11p), and requested an early shuttle at 4 or 415am because my tickets for my AM flight requested I arrive at 415. He told me “one hour is better”. I told him I would like to be there at the time my ticket recommended—415–and he seemed to agree/understand. There were essentially no lights outside of reception, and he gave me incorrect instructions about where my room was before handing me the key and telling me to go. It took me several minutes to actually locate the room, and I had difficulty with the key once I did. I tried turning it both directions, and it would simply turn three times both ways without unlocking. I wasn’t given instructions about the lock. When I went back for help, he looked at me like I was stupid, threw his hands up and said “¡Ay, Dios!”. He angrily followed me to my room and unlocked the door.

Stayed for one short night right before my flight breakfast was great. It was nice to hang out by the pool and the pool table where they had little board games and stuff like that - staff was very friendly and helpful. The shuttle got me to the airport on time I would stay again

My 5yo daughter and I stayed at Brillasol on our way back home from a jungle camping gathering in Uvita. This property is amazing and we will be back. The staff was so friendly, helpful and accommodating. I thought we would have a shuttle service from the airport but it was only available to the airport. Its quite possible this was the case bc we had a same day booking. We enjoyed the pool and smoothies. We took a walk to get lunch offsite as there was a few restaurants close by. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. It was such a cute little gem, i cant wait to come back.

Room had broken drain on sink, which splashed on floor when used. Some shower fixtures starting to rust. Staff friendly. Restaurant acceptable. Bed ok. Wifi ok.Price and distance to airport ok.

Just a quick stop before we flew home - only 3 miles from the airport via side roads was a dream! Cute little hotel- not fancy, but enough beds for all, a good little variety at breakfast and we'd definitely plan to start and/or end future trips from this friendly little place!

I love this property. I’ve stayed here several times over the past 10 years either arriving or departing from SJO. Due to its proximity to the airport you hear planes coming and going, so I wouldn’t spend my entire vacation here although it is a beautiful quaint place. I love the convenience and can’t beat the price for what you get.

Property is nice and the staff was friendly. Area around is not the best but they keep gate shut. You can use Uber eats to bring you stuff. Grounds are nice. Biggest complaint is noise from planes and motorcycles but you are close to airport.

Great place with a pool and great little restaurant. Breakfast was included and was very hearty. The staff were excellent, and the place is very clean. The only downside is that it is directly beneath the flight path so you have to get used to hearing planes overhead, but not all night. Excellent airport transfer time with it being only 4 kms away from SJO, but if going during rush hour in the morning, give yourself extra time (it took us 40 minutes to get to SJO due to traffic). We would definitely stay again.

We were only there for one night, but i would definitely stay there again! The staff were lovely and breakfast was just what we wanted; fresh fruit, eggs, rice, beans, coffee, orange juice, fresh homemade yogurt, etc.

Cheap on food, 2 slices of pineapple and watermelon and a tiny slice of 1 bread. Not worth the money. Great stuff and good location but yes the breakfast isn't very satisfying. No shampoo and conditioner included nor water. You have to buy it from the reception office.

This is the perfect last minute stay before your flight the next morning. It's an older hotel, clean with all the basic amenities. It provided an airport shuttle to the airport which is what was most convenient because we returned our car rental the night before. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. The price was right!

No hot water in the shower. Charged us an extra 15USD for the 2nd person in the room. Food was so-so and pricey. They offered fruit for the morning as we were leaving before breakfast was served. They gave us one small container - enough for one person. We’ve been staying here regularly when we arrive and prior to leaving Costa Rica over the years as have friends and family based on our recommendation. Sadly, we will likely change hotels based on our last experience. Very disappointing. I will no longer recommend this hotel.
