The entire staff is amazing and so accommodating, the food was exceptional and we also had a wonderful massage. The rooms are all unique, clean and comfortable. It is a bit off the beaten path and does not have any TVs so you can truly disconnect. Highly recommend!!

Really wanted to love this place, but the stay was just ok. Beautiful natural environment, but some of the buildings are in need of maintenance. It’s weird and off putting to have a relatively expensive (and just ok, by Japanese standards) kaiseki meal and then go to the bathroom where there is mold on the ceiling and dirty walls in obvious need of painting. Also the hand towels w the meal smelled strongly of chlorine. There was no hot water in my bathroom for hours at a time, apparently on account of the outdoor tub and cold weather, which was no fun when you want to take a hot shower after coming in from the bath. The onsen is just ok (no sauna, no cold plunge) and they charge you a nominal fee each day whether or not you use it, which is weird, The staff was nice but often diffident, not really knowing what was happening. My massage was changed from 3pm to 8pm to 8:40pm. I was flexible so no biggie but still. I arranged to leave my bags on the last day to go to the open air art museum (highly recommended) and they wouldn’t even let me wait in the cafe when I returned to retrieve them but instead stuck me in a little security shack w a space heater to wait for my taxi. Super weird/off-putting. I won’t go back to this place, but hope management reads this and cleans it up because it really is quite a beautiful property.

Wonderful peace of heaven in Japan. Away from the bustle of Hakone. Food and staff were incredible.
