About this property

Nestled on a private 310-acre island just 3. 5 km from Waterford, Ireland's oldest city, this historic estate was once home to the Fitzgerald family for 800 years. The castle's oldest sections date back to the mid-16th century. Guests can enjoy the tranquil island setting, surrounded by nature and native deer. The estate offers a range of luxurious accommodations. The two-story Castle Garden Lodges are a 2-minute drive from the main castle. Each lodge features three double bedrooms upstairs and an open-plan kitchen/living area downstairs. Designed to maximize space and light, the ground floor boasts porcelain tiling and underfloor heating, creating a seamless flow throughout. Full-height doors and a glazed wall flanking the timber staircase lead to a light-filled upper level. Upstairs, floating ceilings with integrated lighting and high-gloss fixtures add a contemporary touch. Each lodge includes a fully equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar, and a dining area for six. Please note that portable/disposable BBQs are not permitted. A €5 resort and island fee is payable upon departure. A daily gas and electricity charge also applies: €7. 00 per day from January to June and September to December, and €5. 00 per day in July and August. For inquiries about private events at the castle, please contact us directly at +353 (0)51 878203 or email info@waterfordcastleresort. com before booking.

The lodge (inside) was clean, roomy, and comfortable. Outside there were kids toys, food wrappers, and other debris on the ground. It appeared that there were multiple families, most likely refugees, living full time in a number of the lodges next to resort visitors/tourists. There are no dining options on the island during the week, although we were told by the front desk staff (incorrectly) that the golf club did serve dinner. The castle was off limits due to private events but the walking trails were enjoyable. The golf course was in excellent condition, prices were reasonable, and the staff was friendly.

This Castle was a highlight of our trip around Ireland! The grounds are lovely, the castle is absolutely incredible. Like staying in a fairytale. The restaurant staff are fantastic and the food was top notch! Highly recommend the Waterford Castle.

This was a splurge for my birthday and it was so exciting to take the ferry over-it conveniently runs every 15 minutes- park and walk up to a beautiful castle. After we checked in we explored the property and then got a drink in the luxurious bar. The furniture was comfortable and cute. We took a bath in the claw foot tub and enjoyed the large and soft bath towels and robes. The toilet was difficult to flush and you had to pull at the top not the chain. The bed was the most comfortable bed ive ever slept in. Breakfast was phenomenal with everything so tasty and fresh in a gorgeous sunny atrium. Could do a better job cleaning-lots of cobwebs and dust. Some people complain about the decor but it is a restored castle and I don't think it's easy to simple replace the wallpaper. Definitely would recommend!
