Manager was friendly and efficient. Property has been nicely restored and is well maintained. Our room was very clean and the parking was excellent with luxuriant, full-sized spaces that can accommodate almost any vehicle with room to get in and out of the car. Most places you need a shoe horn to get a Prius in to the space.

We stayed there overnight on our way to Texas and overnight on our way back. The motel was clean and had a small refrigerator no coffee pot or many amenities. For the price it was worth it. There is a McDonalds about a mile and a half away to get coffee. It is not a destination spot for sure, but an ok place to stop overnight.

The Desert Inn is an old style highway motel. Personable staff. Clean room and bathroom. Parked my motorcycle right outside my door. Great peace of mind. I would stay again and recommend for others.

Good, clean basic room. No coffee pot and I didn’t see a hair dryer, but room was clean, bed super comfy. Easy access to I-10. Park car right outside door; no stairs or elevator.

Nice small motel. Backed car up to door to unload. Only thing I should mention for other travelers is that it is close to a train track. I love trains so the noise didn’t bother me but you may want earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Will definitely stay again.

This was a last minute booking for an overnight stay. It is an older motel, but it was comfortable. The room was clean, and the person who checked us in was quick. There wasn't much in amenities, but we were satisfied with our room. The heater in the room worked well as the temps dropped down into the 30's that night.

Pros: Price was attractive, place seemed well-maintained, staff was polite and friendly. Cons: No breakfast offered, no coffee machine in room. Not a deal breaker, but one or the other would add to the comfort of travelers. You never know what kind of day we've had on the road, and it's a nice touch.

This was a great stay for an overnight drive through. I read previous reviews and they were right, it was clean, bed was comphy and a safe area. It has been renovated and we were surprised at how clean it was. We will stay here again when in town.

What a great little jewel for just an overnight stay. Clean, comfortable and all in good repair. Furniture is dated but bed and sheets are comfortable. Sheets seemed new. Tile in the bathroom shower was new and spotless. I would definitely recommend if you are just needing a place to sleep and get back in the road. All the necessities.

The good part- The property was clean, the bed was comfortable, small microwave, tiny fridge, room was large. Bad part- no coffee anywhere on the property. I went to loves and bought a coffee, kept it in the fridge overnight, then heated it up in the microwave in the morning. I have to have coffee first thing in the morning. The air conditioner blows right on you while you’re in bed and the lowest setting is pretty strong and it’s loud. I hate that but some people might like it. The tv is pretty small considering it’s all the way across the room. But that’s not really a big deal.

We stop in Van Horn just to sleep / break up a twenty hour drive, so we were satisfied with our stay at this motel. It's clean, inexpensive, minimalistic lodging.

The bed was comfortable, but I've had waffles thicker than the pillows. I don't know how anyway can rate this with a 10. The room was dark and gloomy the shower has absolutely no light so you're showering in the dark , they were dead flies in the window sill as well as it being dirty. Gaps around the entrance door. I was not comfortable staying in this room..

This is an economy hotel that has no frills but is very clean and the gentleman who checked us in was very nice. The room was large, the bed was firm. I prefer a bit aofter but it wasnt horrible. This hotel is VERY near the railroad tracks and trains cime through often. You can feel theem coming before hearing them.

Stem walls thin walls means you can hear every single step, every word, fridge door, car door, & bathroom flush, from your 5 person neighbors, who, for some reason, don’t sleep at all throughout the night. This is being written at 4am after a long, sleepless night for the author. The woman at the front desk was friendly. Did I mention the passing trains? I hate this room. At least there were no bedbugs.

The motel manager phoned prior to arrival to ensure my attendance and guage time if arrival. He met me promptly even though I arrived later in the evening and directed me to my room and parking. Very hrlpful gentleman. The room was exceptionally clean and well appointed with fridge, microwave, tv and lots of usable furniture. The bathroom was clean and fresh. The only drawback with the bathroom is the sink is small with no counter soace at all. I used a chair from the livingroom to put some of my toiletries on. The place was perfect for an overnight stay on a longer trip. It is a bit off the beaten track but there's not much in the town anyways. I would recommend this motel.

The desert inn was the best place I stayed on my trip. The staff are so kind and helpful and even stayed late for me when I knew I wouldn't arrive by check in time. They saved me from another cold night in the woods! The rooms aren't the biggest or fanciest but they're very nice and absolutely cannot be beat for the price. Would absolutely stay again and will only ever stay here if I'm in Van Horn.

It was NEVER communicated to us that you can’t check in after 10pm. Nobody called us to let us know and no check in process at all if your late. Unable to access the room or find anybody to contact, it goes straight to a dial tone.

Great example of an older property that has been nicely renovated. Area outside was foul smelling of oil/gas. It sounded like the train tracks were right behind the property - bring your earplugs; the trains are very loud! Good towels; would have been nice to have places to hang them in the bathroom.

The check-in was fine, desk clerk friendly, efficient. The looke of the place from the outside when driving in was uh-oh, an old-old "down and out" 50's motel. The room was clean and updated though. There were a couple of minor issues such as the sink was slow to drain until I pulled the stopper out finding out it wasn't attached to the rod to move it up and down (lazy maintenance for room 109). The shower had a dark curtain and not light in the ceiling so you were showering in the dark. The TV channels had many that were fuzzy (poor cable or satellite). Those would have been just a little annoyance, but the trains.....OMG. At night every hour or less a train would come by and the tracks are 100' behind the bathroom wall. Not all would blow their horns but the physical rumble would wake you up so not sleep to speak of. Never again. If the motel had been in a different spot it would have been ok.
The check-in was fine, desk clerk friendly, efficient. The looke of the place from the outside when driving in was uh-oh, an old-old "down and out" 50's motel. The room was clean and updated though. This is an economy hotel that has no frills but is very clean and the gentleman who checked us in was very nice. The room was large, the bed was firm. I prefer a bit aofter but it wasnt horrible. This hotel is VERY near the railroad tracks and trains cime through often. You can feel theem coming before hearing them.

This is an older property in a town that has nothing to offer. However, when traveling on the 10 it is in the perfect location. The staff is friendly. Even though it is an older hotel, the rooms are spotless, beds are comfortable and we felt extremely safe. I would stay here again.

The good part- The property was clean, the bed was comfortable, small microwave, tiny fridge, room was large. Bad part- no coffee anywhere on the property. I went to loves and bought a coffee, kept it in the fridge overnight, then heated it up in the microwave in the morning. I have to have coffee first thing in the morning. The air conditioner blows right on you while you’re in bed and the lowest setting is pretty strong and it’s loud. I hate that but some people might like it. The tv is pretty small considering it’s all the way across the room. But that’s not really a big deal.

This is what you would expect from a cheap roadside motel in a small town in Texas. It was clean and comfortable, but it was also outdated and there were no amenities. It was close to the restaurants in town, so that was a plus. It was worth the price.

We stayed there overnight on our way to Texas and overnight on our way back. The motel was clean and had a small refrigerator no coffee pot or many amenities. For the price it was worth it. There is a McDonalds about a mile and a half away to get coffee. It is not a destination spot for sure, but an ok place to stop overnight.

Pros: Price was attractive, place seemed well-maintained, staff was polite and friendly. Cons: No breakfast offered, no coffee machine in room. Not a deal breaker, but one or the other would add to the comfort of travelers. You never know what kind of day we've had on the road, and it's a nice touch.

An older budget hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Use the $ you save on the hotel to walk 2 blocks up the street to splurge on a nice dinner at El Captain Hotel. Although the AC was loud it blew cold air and kept our room very comfortable. I would suggest earplugs if you don't want to hear the AC. A nice stay for 1 night.
