The place was very clean and well kept, but we felt like we had the entire Inn to ourselves. We heard coughing from another room, but it felt very empty. We saw a staff member only in the morning and they were great! Very friendly, very helpful and took us on a tour of the tunnels and told us the history of it all. What was disappointing is the lack of a restaurant/ bar which was a big highlight when we stayed here years ago. When we came here years ago, it felt lively with what seemed like locals coming for dinner and hanging out and guests enjoying the their time. This time around, aside from the morning we were there with the staff member, the whole experience felt hands off. We even joked that it felt like the "Ghosts" were running the business. Would we return, yes. But as the staff member said, we were in the slowest time of the year, the in between seasons. So, next time, for us, perhaps a busier time and maybe after they open the restaurant/bar for good food and good times.

We stayed for 2 nights in the mansion, it was super clean and the staff was very friendly. It’s quiet so it was very easy to feel relax. The bar was great! The rooms are big and very clean, we love the history of the house. Overall a good experience

Finding it was a problem. Goggle maps sent me in circles. The mansion itself was lovely but the hotel attached to the back was hardly better than a youth hostel. The room and linens were clean but parking was just bare ground and broken curb stones too rough to wheel luggage over. Most of the time my room had no internet connection. Most of the time there was no staff available on site. There was no ice. The bar was closed by 8 on Saturday night; maybe it was never open. It was comfortable but much too expensive for what it was. The manager was nice.

We were in the motel section which was clean and quiet, however not all amenities were present. Arrived around 7:30pm, but disappointed that the bar was to be closing soon. Beautiful house, nice self serve breakfast amenities however again disappointed not to see anyone present to talk to or ask about the details of the house. Perhaps it was because it was a Monday evening/Tuesday morning, but felt like we missed out on more of an engaging experience. Almost seemed like an empty house.

Keys were taped to front door with instructions on how to enter the property. Anybody could have gained entry. Bed was broken recent renovation was poor quality, for example: flooring lifting from sub floor. Bedsheet did not fit the bed. Reddish brown spatter was noted on bathroom wall.

Staying in a clean hotel/rental is top priority for me and my family. Our room (35) in the back rooms of the Hartness house was impeccably clean. Pay attention to your booking, there are many rooms not in the original house where we stayed and I would highly recommend. You still have access to the charming main house, with its rich history, and if you’re lucky, a tour down underneath the house to check out James Hartness’s private quarters, telescope and small museum honoring him and many inventors from his time. Breakfast was just what we needed before heading to Okemo to ski, only a 25 minute drive. The small town of Springfield is very charming as well, with food options and remnants of an industrial era. The Hartness House is definitely worth a stay

We were given a room in the very back of the facility by a passcode given to unlock the back door ourselves, and the facility seemed to be a cheaply constructed addition to the original mansion and the whole place seemed to be quite empty. We were already disappointed at the condition of the poor room, we realized that the room also reeked with cigarette smell which gave us bad headache. No staff was to be found in the building to assist us, and after calling a number, a staff person was reached after some time, and came to the property, gave us a different room which was in the mid-section and much cleaner compared to the first disastrous room offered to us. The cleanness (or the lack of it) was very disappointing for the first room we were given and I hate to imagine if we got there later in the evening and no one could come to fix the problem we had. The main lobby interior was very charming as shown in the pictures, but there was no air conditioner running so it was stuffy and not pleasant to stay there either.

The room was very nice. Very clean. The bed and bed pillows were very very uncomfortable. Too hard. I had to go buy a new pillow at Walmart so I could sleep better. Coffee and pastries and fruit in the morning was great. Check in and check out was easy.

No usual & customary check in-Envelope put on front door for check in. Unfortunately, we were in the way back of mansion in a double bed room no microwave or refrigerator. However, Tyler the inn keeper was fabulous. Took my daughter on an under ground tour of the museum, laboratory & telescope. Interesting history on the Hartness House. We would stay again, picking a room in the main mansion.

The house is beautiful!!! Unfortunately, I stayed in one of the rooms in the back (which was a bit dated, but clean). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again, but I will make sure to stay in a room inside the house.

Talk about a bait and switch. This is my 176 nights in hotel beds since 1/2024. Worst mattress I've slept in all of those nights. The market depicts a glorious mansion. More like broken down Motel. Only stay here if your desperate or broke.

AC unit was hidden behind curtain, so would have slept better if we had air movement and soothing white noise. Room had odd features, no ceiling fan. Bathroom didn’t have space/counter around sink area. Strange wall shelving around tv that wound not work. Over priced for a mediocre stay.

It wasn't the easiest check-in, it took about 15 minutes for me to actually get inside the building because I did not receive an email with my information only an envelope with my information taped to the front door after the only directives I was given was to check in through the back door. I was also disappointed that they don't have any microwaves or refrigerators in their hotel rooms.

I visit Springfield at least once a year, this is my second stay at the hartness house, I’ve stayed in the mansion and in the hotel, I have been very happy with both options. The mansion is stunning and enjoying a coffee and pastry in the mansion in the morning is lovely. I’m glad to see this historic building being taken care of so thoughtfully.

Very nice place, clean and comfortable. I received several emails with instructions on checking in, codes etc… check out was not so easy; the doors lock with your key and yet no instructions as to where to leave the key. No staff and no key boxes!

I visit Springfield at least once a year, this is my second stay at the hartness house, I’ve stayed in the mansion and in the hotel, I have been very happy with both options. The mansion is stunning and enjoying a coffee and pastry in the mansion in the morning is lovely. I’m glad to see this historic building being taken care of so thoughtfully.
