Friendly staff, comfortable room, free street parking with permit from hotel, lots of restaurants walking distance, and they even offer a gym guest pass that is 8 minutes away.

Rm 231... By far the best hotel shower I've ever experienced, and I've traveled the country coast to coast & border to border annually for 20 years staying in 100's of hotels. This stay was for pleasure. I joined local friends to peruse the Friday market and the Saturday Farmer's Market. Parking can be tricky. Some stress leaving my vehicle parked on the street. No issues occured. I'm not finding any reasons to book elsewhere on my next Arcata visit.

Excellent sushi restaurant on the first floor. Nice rooms. Historic property. Underwhelming breakfast. Sketchy hobos hanging around in the square outside. Would stay again

The staff was very kind and attentive, I especially appreciated Zach at the front desk. This is a great place to stay for the true Arcata experience. Parking is easy especially with the included parking pass, and you have a front row seat to the Saturday morning Farmers Market. Lots of great shopping and restaurants footsteps away. My room was clean and more spacious than I expected. It's good to note that this is an area with student life and a bar or two, so you might experience some noise after-hours. The fan in my room provided enough white noise that I was able to tune it out. The included continental breakfast is not the most generous I have ever seen provided, mostly consisting of coffee, juice, and a sad looking bagel or two. However, there are plenty of wonderful cafes nearby if you'd like something hot and fresh. I will definitely stay here again as the convenience and central location can't be beat.

Parking can be an issue. If you do not find close by spot on street parking, you have to carry luggage 1-2 blocks away to hotel, yourself.

Beautiful old hotel! Could use a little upgrade. Such as AC and refrigerator. Breakfast could be a little better as well. Other than that, it is an amazing location, a beautiful old hotel with the great sushi restaurant in the lobby

The hotel definitely had charm but is obviously old. The staff were cordial and friendly. My room had no thermostat or hair dryer. There is no parking associated with the hotel and though the hotel does provide a parking pass to avoid the 2 hour parking constraint, finding parking is challenging especially on Fridays when parking in the square is prohibited due to the farmers market on Saturday.

Built in 1915 and historic! Very neat place to stay with a restaurant/bar in the lobby. I like the touch of using a real key for your room. Weather was perfect in July and so much to do in the plaza!

The room had an odor

Historical building, small but clean room. Best water pressure I have ever experienced for a hotel stay, I will go back for it 100%. Very convenient location. Bed and Pillow have opportunity to improve.

I highly recommend this hotel. I’ve been looking for a hotel that is safe with easy walkable distance to restaurants when I travel through on work. Highly recommend staying here. There are so many restaurants to choose from in the area that are walkable. And beds were comfortable and the hotel was very clean. The staff was also amazing and they had a good variety of food that was well stocked for their breakfast.

Hotel is conveniently located. Front desk staff could not be kinder. Rooms are rundown, poorly lit, in tough shape. Also, bathroom was not truly clean when we checked in. And the bathroom was not fully stocked each day. We had to keep asking for soap, shampoo, etc. And one day, they even forgot to make the bed. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience. And not inexpensive. This hotel should do better.

I felt like it was an expensive price for the room. There were ants, mold in the coffee pot, not hot water when I tried to shower and you could hear all the homeless during the night, so no sleep. I would probably not go back again.

The hotel staff was wonderful. Our room was very clean. It was not dangerous for us to walk our dog at night. There were a few homeless people around but all harmless. I would definitely stay again. I wish I had known about the baseball games right down the block. That would have been great to attend!! It’s kind of a big deal in Arcata!

It's a neat historic hotel located on the town square which is a great location in the middle of all the shops and restaurants. They had a great farmers market on the Square on Saturday. Very cool. The hotel is old but classic. The room was large and the bed comfortable. It's dated but clean. They could probably do away with the dated wall paper and it keep it's charm. Staff very friendly. We had a nice time. For us much classier than a corporate run of the mill hotel

staff was decent, some more hospitable than others. this hotel is uncomfortably outdated. the carpet & synthetic floors look yellow and dirty. the area around the tub was rusty. no screens on the windows which is fine, but then spiderwebs right at them. smelly which honestly is probably the carpet. the bathroom ceiling looked moldy. need a little fridge in the room since food options at night are super limited and I had brought yoghurt & pizza that I had to throw away, but I could have eaten it if there was a fridge. the pillows are hard. the style of the hotel is nice but needs to be renovated and deep cleaned. I feel upset about this experience. for how much this costs, I expect at the very least a clean space. the complimentary breakfast should have at least eggs. it was toast waffles & yoghurt. coffee was super light & unenjoyable.

It’s a really neat hotel that gives a sense of a bygone era with some modern updates. Big sweeping staircase, photographs showing hotel’s history, claw foot bathtub, pretty Tiffany style bedside lamps. Parking was on the street and not too challenging to find a space. I found my room to be immaculate and cozy. My room faced the street on the 3rd floor. It was quiet with a few loud cars here and there. What would you except as you’re in the town square? Cute shops and eateries surround the hotel. I walked up to Wildberries market and to Smidge’s for a slice of pizza. Next morning I shopped and grabbed a coffee at Jitterbean. It was a lovely stay and will definitely return when I’m back in Arcata.

The desk staff was friendly and helpful. We originally had one room booked, but because of plumbing issues they had to put us into two separate rooms, which was fine. The beds were very uncomfortable. They need new mattresses. Carpets could also do with a refresh.

This hotel is cool. It is also old. It exudes early 20th charm and it also has some 110 year old hotel problems, such as the windows and doors let every noise in, and the area around the hotel is surprisingly noisy for a little town. I\'ll get to the noise in a sec... The continental breakfast was meager, at best. It was barely acceptable, tbh. The room was cool. It was old, but clean, and had real solid brass fixtures and comfortable beds. It had a radiator but no air conditioning that i can recall -- which turns out, was ok, in Arcata, which doesn\'t get warm even in early August. (for reference: It dropped down to 51º overnight -- on August 11!) The town, though, has this sorta semi-permanent "hippie homeless" population that just lives in the town square. Maybe this is very typical of a California hippie town, and I chatted with some of them and they were mostly nice, and mostly harmless, but it did make the evenings much louder than one might normally expect for a small town. We\'re talking "yelling at 2AM" type noisiness. My teenage kids were not fans of the members of the town square. I was fine with \'em, but it was definitely not something I\'ve encountered quite like this. Overall, this hotel is worth staying at if you\'re ok with the "weird". Recommended.

We stay here one night on our way farther up the coast. Very nice, big room.

We were on the second floor and there is no A/C, which is fine. We opened the windows because it was so hot, but there were no screens and it was very noisy as it seemed to be a popular area at night. A lot of homeless people in the area but the park across the street was kept very clean. Liked the layout of the hotel suite but be aware it’s over 100 years old so just know that going in. Very nice staff. It was a great building, just a little awkward with a pet and the windows open.

Small rooms. Little sink with virtually no room for toiletries. No fridge. No microwave.

Hotel Arcata is a historic landmark, an older hotel, well-maintained. Some people might find the facilities a little "tight". The rooms are a bit smaller than average and the bathroom facilities are dated. However, in this case, this is actually part of the charm of the place but it might not be best for families. As a solo traveler, I found the accommodations to be charming and the central location in the Arcata Plaza to be excellent with many shopping and eating options within walking distance. There are other options for hotels locally but they lack the charm and sophistication of the Hotel Arcata. The staff here is excellent and very knowledgeable about the area so I would highly recommend this property with the caveats previously stated.

Booked four rooms about a month ahead. Our room - 211 - was very small and cramped, and the bathroom door would not open all the way because it hit the toilet. I didn’t think to check the others - I figured it was an old hotel so this was how it was - but as we were leaving I could see that the other rooms were much more spacious. The annual craft fair was held that weekend (unaware of this when we booked) so rates were apparently higher than usual, but $218 for this room was poor value.

Great stay on the downtown plaza. Great nearby shopping and food! A mile from Cal Poly Humboldt. We had noise from the restaurant under our room til 10 pm. Lots of noise from protest on the square during 10/7 during the day. No issues with parking in town - it’s free. It felt safe and friendly. Breakfast is lackluster. The people are all awesome.

The hotel is very charming. The front desk staff is a bit wooden. No microwave or fridge. The neighboring park is a bit overrun with homeless.

I went to a Humboldt 30 years ago and chose to stay at the Hotel Arcata while on a recent college tour visit with our son. Stay at the Hotel Arcata for the you-can’t- get- more-central location on the Arcata Plaza and the friendly, helpful staff. Yes, the hotel is old and quirky, but it’s clean and the rooms are large. the hallways are full of really great historic photos of the area and the visitors guide to the area that they have created is really quite exceptional. They do offer muffins and yogurts in their breakfast lounge, but we passed those up every morning so that we could go to Los Bagels instead! Definitely bring your ear plugs if you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night because the Plaza will be full of students bar-hopping. But Sunday was very quiet. :-) Anyway, thank you for the stay, Hotel Arcata!

The location we thought was nice, but there were homeless people and other people in the downtown plaza all night, arguing and being very loud. Did not sleep much at all. The room was very nice, and the place was clean. The TV in the room did not work, and after informing the Hotel, they had no one to fix it and offered no discount or solutions.

Great location and the staff were beyond friendly and helpful. I left a very important item behind and couldn't arrange to go back and pick it up and the staff were very helpful with arranging to ship it home for me. Cannot say enough good things about the level of service and willingness to make my stay and beyond 5 star service!

It's a quaint old hotel with a lot of character. The attached sushi restaurant, Tomo, is outstanding and the location is perfection. The check-in staff is always great. That said, I have two points: 1.) The hotel- I spent $515 for two nights on a full bed with fights in the alleyway outside the window of my room. When I called the night desk at 1am because it sounded like someone might be getting hurt, the attendant (Lorelei? Not sure on spelling) clearly did not care and wanted to get back to her game of Candy Crush or whatever. I called 9-1-1 myself. 2.) The new OneKey Cash "Rewards" program- I used to not mind the added expense because Hotels.com had an amazing rewards program, stay ten nights and get one night free. They averaged the prices of your ten nights to then give you your complimentary night, Since they have been acquired by Expedia the rewards program has tanked and it's just not worth it. On $515 I received $9.20 in "OneKey Cash". I am now going back to booking directly with the hotel whenever possible.

I love this hotel because of its historical significance. It’s charming and comfortable. Microwaves and refrigerators are not available in rooms, but that’s okay for this type of historical place. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant downstairs was excellent. More cafes and pastries around the area than we could try during our 2 day stay. I will be back.

We had a great stay. It’s a unique experience in a historical hotel. It felt like we stepped back in time in a really good way. We loved that we could walk around town to all of the cool shops and restaurants. There was a farmers market right out the front door on Saturday morning and it was beautiful. It was a breath of fresh air from the usual corporate hotels that don’t have character and charm. The staff was super helpful. We are already planning our next visit.

Thank you for accommodating the need to move to a larger room. I’m glad that we hit things at the right time to be able to do it!

We enjoyed being in Arcata, with its great shops and dining options and a wonderful grocery store right up the street. However I felt the hotel could have amped up their game. The breakfast options were lackluster, the breakfast area was cold and devoid of anything comfortable. The layout of our room was haphazard. I had nothing on my side of the bed to put my iPad or phone on. The desk people were not very welcoming or warm, they hardly even smiled. All in all, not the best experience.

The hotel is really cool from an architectural/historic perspective. The staff was nice and the room was clean as was the property. The breakfast was extremely limited and as we arrived in the morning one of the homeless people had just finished emptying the entire stock of toast and walking off. I was traveling with a child which got to witness 3 inebriated vagrants get into a fight while yelling obscenities in the town square in front of the hotel. Not an hour later, from our room we couldn't ignore the screams of yet another fight that had broke out between a woman and another vagrant which involved more obscenities. This is not a direct reflection of the hotel but it appears the local authorities are okay with allowing this behavior to go on in the area, day and night, as families try to go about their business.

So cool to stay right on the Arcata Square. Everything is in walkable distance. Lots of shopping, bars, and great restaurants. Quaint hotel on the corner edge of the square.

The hotel itself was fairly nice. The outside area made me feel very unsafe. People camping on the sidewalk. Harrassing. Doing drugs. Parking was at a premium only on the street. Minimum breakfast items available.

I realize the hotel is a historic property. It's lovely as is. I wish there was a mini-fridge in the room. My biggest complaint is the homeless congregating in the park across the street. It makes you uncomfortable if they are verbally abusive or aggressive.

Classic1915 hotel in the center of Arcata facing the town square. Hotel has been kept up well. The square was lively and noisy at night, but we did not feel unsafe. Nice coffee shop across the street.

The hotel itself is nice, however the surroundings can be sketchy after dark. Dining in the area is close and very good however. The restaurant in the hotel, Tomo, is excellent.

Breakfast was not very good. Shower curtains don't hold in water. We always had to dry the floor after. Fortunately, there are drains in the floor. Square is a little noisy.

Hotel Arcata is a historic property right on Arcata's central square. Walkable to shopping and dining. A first class Japanese restaurant is on the premises. Everything was clean and well maintained.

the rooms were just adequate, except I liked the firm pillows, my wife didn't. the free breakfast was less than adequate, ie. the syrup for the waffles was tasteless. luck there were some great breakfast restaurants nearby
