This place was phenomenal!!!! Private bungalows, private hot tubs, private swings and balcony, in the middle of the rainforest! A nice restaurant and bar on the property. A 10 min walk to the river. About a mile from La Fortuna Waterfall and near a ton of hot springs (may need to drive or uber to these, but I think the hotel would get you ride if you asked). Cannot recommend enough!

Nice hotel we enjoyed staying at the Rancho Cerro Azul. Your cabin is enclosed in a beautiful garden and you’ll be woken up by birds singing in the morning. Breakfast is good and abundant, restaurant not so much There is a nice trail down to the river and they arrange a night e walk in the property to see frogs and other nocturnal animals. It’s at walking distance from “El Salto” rope swing and at a couple of miles from the waterfall Very positive experience

El hotel supera las expectativas, las habitaciones están muy cuidadas. El jacuzzi funciona a la perfección y aunque está en el exterior el área es privada. El internet falla cuando llueve muy fuerte, sin embargo nada grave. El personal es muy atento. Definitivamente volveremos.

For the price point during peak season, our bungalow with its own jacuzzi all surrounded by amazing flora and situated at a fair distance from other nearby bungalows, with its own on-prem cute bar, located on a relatively quiet street, about 5 minutes by car from La Fortuna waterfall, was excellent.

Loved this place. Room could have been cleaner but overall the property is well kept, has beautiful scenery, and peaceful. Located next to good restaurants and walking around feels safe at night. Staff is great especially Alonzo. Be mindful that since you are immersed in nature there will be a decent number of bugs coming to visit you outside and inside.

I honestly don’t understand how this hotel got such a high rating. I rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience at this hotel was really disappointing. The room was nothing like the photos—small, outdated, and not very clean. The bathroom had a weird smell of urine that didn’t go away. We were so grossed out by the beds that we just slept in our clothes. I brought my wet towels to the front desk and asked for replacements. To my surprise, the owner told me those were the only towels they had! He said he would dry them and have them sent to my room within 30 minutes. Of course, that never happened. I'm still baffled that a hotel doesn’t keep extra towels on hand—it’s honestly unacceptable. I couldn’t wait to check out. Save yourself the trouble and book somewhere else.

The room is dated but clean. The outdoor patio is amazing! We heard howler monkeys in the morning from our deck. Unfortunately we stayed only one night and didn’t have time to use the hot tub. I would recommend staying multiple nights to enjoy that outdoor space!

We rented cabin number 9 which is located at the rear of the property and is much more secluded than the other cabins on the property. The best part about this cabin is that it’s not located near the road and it also looks out into the jungle from the rear porch. William in concierge, Kenneth the bartender, and other staff members were great and incredibly helpful. Our cabin was a bit rustic however it provided everything we needed and we enjoyed hearing the sounds of the jungle and river below. The location is good if you don’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna. However you can walk into town which will take you 15/20 minutes each way as a fit individual. The property does have a bar and restaurant on site, a couple other restaurants, and a convenience store that are located on the same street. It’s still close enough to town that all of our excursions were able to pick us up at the property without extra charge. They offer paid laundry which we took advantage of, and we really loved their in house breakfast which is also an extra fee but reasonable. If you want to be off the beaten path a little bit, but still close enough to everything than this is for you. As a heads up the other cabins are closer to the road and I imagine there might be considerable road noise. Its a humble resort for humble people and families in my opinion. We would go back.

We booked the family room nd loved having the large covered patio with hot tub. It was so much fun sitting in the hot tub and listening to the rain pounding on the roof. The only drawback is that this room is just feet from the road. Although there were plants blocking the view it was pretty noisy during the day. But a family would love this room, small kitchen, 3 separate beds, and good price. But no pool on the property if that is important to you.

Such a great accommodation! We booked the superior cabin. Very peaceful cabin with a large verandah that looks on into the jungle. Room is is huge and has a fridge and sink. The king bed is comfortable, super clean. Enough room to do my yoga! Great parking. Would highly recommend for a genuine Costa Rican stay.

We lived everything about this hotel. The bungalows were so cute and it had everything we needed. The whole staff was amazing we were greeted by Kevin he was so nice and accommodating greeted with cold towels which was everything we didn’t know we needed. I will definitely book again. I love a family owned business, you can tell the take great pride in hospitality.

The staff was great, very helpful, professional and friendly. The room was clean and was accurately depicted in the online photos. Resturant had good food and was beautifully setup. The property was well maintained and the rates we booked at were fairly priced. Location very well situated to many different ideal destinations. We would definitely return to the property if visiting the area again.

No pudimos utilizar correctamente el jacuzzi, debido el empaque que cierra la salida del agua del mismo, debido a que lo iniciamos a llenar como 8 pm, hasta 1 hora y 30 min después fue que descubrimos esto al ver que no se lograba llenar, sin embargo no pudimos expresarlo por que la recepción ya estaba cerrada apartir de las 9 pm. Al salir les indicamos para que el hotel pueda revisar. Pero si me queda el sin sabor de esto, debido a que la elección del lugar para la celebración de mi esposo se dio a que este era el atractivo. Lastimosamente no pudimos aprovecharlo como se debía. Por lo demás todo bien. Lastimosamente tuvimos ese inconveniente. Creo que como parte del mantenimiento deberían de revisar esto cada vez que un huésped realiza su salida, por qué es vital 🙄

When we travel, we’re usually not in our hotel room very much. That said, this property is beautiful and the staff makes you feel at home and cared for. We’re a family of three traveling with an 18-month old, and a little kindness goes a long way. For example, we had a room key break off in the lock and the staff resolved it within 20 minutes and then called for some additional maintenance just because they noticed, not because we asked. For example, we had a room key break off in the lock and the staff resolved it within 20 minutes and then called for some additional maintenance just because they noticed, not because we asked. Amazing experience. The grounds were so lush and beautiful. The restaurant was also great- fairly priced and quick. Drinks were soooo delicious. Also overlooks the lush trees and even saw monkeys from here!! Another highlight is the staff. Specifically Kenneth in the bar and Isaac at the restaurant. So friendly, welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. This is less of a resort feel and more mountain cabin, but still has really great perks like the jacuzzi - we went in every night. Amazing spot!

I honestly don’t understand how this hotel got such a high rating. I rarely leave bad reviews, but my experience at this hotel was really disappointing. The room was nothing like the photos—small, outdated, and not very clean. The bathroom had a weird smell of urine that didn’t go away. We were so grossed out by the beds that we just slept in our clothes. I brought my wet towels to the front desk and asked for replacements. To my surprise, the owner told me those were the only towels they had! He said he would dry them and have them sent to my room within 30 minutes. Of course, that never happened. I'm still baffled that a hotel doesn’t keep extra towels on hand—it’s honestly unacceptable. I couldn’t wait to check out. Save yourself the trouble and book somewhere else.

This place was perfect for our family of 4. We loved the back patio with table and mini kitchen. It was beautiful to sit and eat breakfast on the patio watching the hummingbirds in the flowers. The staff was helpful and friendly. They helped us book a couple excursions as well.

It was clean but as soon as we got there the AC was turned off and it was 90 degrees outside, the cabins are made of wood so it took a good 30 minutes for it to cool off. The staff wasn’t very friendly either.

The property was well maintained and the rates we booked at were fairly priced. Location very well situated to many different ideal destinations. We rented cabin number 9 which is located at the rear of the property and is much more secluded than the other cabins on the property. The best part about this cabin is that it’s not located near the road and it also looks out into the jungle from the rear porch. William in concierge, Kenneth the bartender, and other staff members were great and incredibly helpful. Our cabin was a bit rustic however it provided everything we needed and we enjoyed hearing the sounds of the jungle and river below. The location is good if you don’t want to be in the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna. However you can walk into town which will take you 15/20 minutes each way as a fit individual. The property does have a bar and restaurant on site, a couple other restaurants, and a convenience store that are located on the same street. It’s still close enough to town that all of our excursions were able to pick us up at the property without extra charge. They offer paid laundry which we took advantage of, and we really loved their in house breakfast which is also an extra fee but reasonable. If you want to be off the beaten path a little bit, but still close enough to everything than this is for you. As a heads up the other cabins are closer to the road and I imagine there might be considerable road noise. Its a humble resort for humble people and families in my opinion. We would go back.

Perfect place in the middle of nature, the grounds are beatiful and the forest sounds lull you to sleep at night. The staff is very friendly and helpful. $3 uber ride to the center of town, the internet is fine but maybe not good enough to work remotely. Highly recommend!

Hotel Rancho Cerro Azul feels like it’s in the forest but is only minutes from town. It’s a beautiful property run by a very sweet family. It’s location made it easy to get around to restaurants and all the activities that we wanted to do. Highly recommend this as your home base in La Fortuna.

We have just left Hotel Rancho Cerro Azul after four wonderful nights. It is a charming and tranquil setting for a small number of clean, comfortable lodges. The deck of our air-conditioned cabin was private and offered a wonderful view of wildlife. We spotted many birds during our stay. Breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit and unlimited coffee. The laundry service was great and our hosts Kevin and Isaac were so warm, welcoming and helpful. We were a family of five, travelling with teenagers and we could not have been happier with our choice. We also ate at the restaurant for other meals a couple of times and the cooking was fresh with good service.

Very quiet( except for evening music from the bar), we stayed in the separate jungle cabin - only downside was slight septic smell outside ( not uncommon everywhere). Would be nice to have a hot tub/hot pool to soak in. The restaurant was unfortunately only open for breakfast( very good) but nice restaurants nearby and La Fortuna was short drive ( or longer walk) away. Overall would recommend the place, good value !

Very good experience with everything. Staff were helpful and friendly. The bungalows are large and very unique. Close enough to the city but far enough away to feel safe. Great location next to the jungle and the river walk. The Howler monkeys woke us up early each morning but that was part of the whole experience. Very good food at the onsite restaurant as well. We would definitely stay there again.

Breakfast is good and abundant, restaurant not so much There is a nice trail down to the river and they arrange a night e walk in the property to see frogs and other nocturnal animals. Wonderful cabins with lush tropical plants, trees, exotic flowers everywhere! Room good sized, approx 14 x 16 ft plus an outdoor covered patio with a hot tub. The attached restaurant has gourmet food as well. Staff are friendly and attractive. Will return there again.

The property is amazing! We enjoyed the amenities: nature trails, river, bird sightings, cabin, and clean Jacuzzi. For a fee, you can enjoy a Costa Rican breakfast including freshly squeezed orange juice and a fruit salad. We love the place and have stayed there several times.
