We had a really lovely stay over 4 nights. John made us feel as if we were at home and with a friend. Although the room we had was not one of the ensuite rooms, we had a dedicated bathroom to ourselves, and we knew it would be like that when we chose the room and the rate. There was also a guest kitchen which was well equipped.

We had room four, which is very spacious. The parking is a tad tight, but manageable. John, who owns the place, is absolutely delightful! Very kind and open. And my personal highlight was joining him in the morning to handfeed the sheep and alpacas.

Located only 20-30 minutes drive from Dundedin city centre, but in countryside setting, tucked out of the way. Quiet. Clean and comfortable room with a modern clean en suite shower room. Very comfortable bed. Small fridge with freezer compartment and a microwave, in a cupboard.Kettle. Access to a guest kitchen - but we took up the continental breakfast option (cereal, juices, toast, butter, etc). Small table and a couple of chairs outside - we used one to supplement the chair in the room when it rained. Very nice host - who was available during the breakfast service and for the daily feeding of the alpacas, sheep and chicken. Good WiFi. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay and it made a good base to explore the Dunedin area.

Farmstay on the outside; typical hotel room on the inside (plus a nice view of the farm). Had a guest kitchen, but it was a bit pokey like it was also part storage room - the microwave was attached to a wall brace that made it feel like it was going to fall off at any moment! Continental breakfast was fine.

The property was lovely - it was a lot of fun to see the alpaca, sheep, and ducks. We appreciated having a kitchen, though we didn't cook in it, and the included breakfast was nice though simple. We didn't ever meet any of the staff, but check in and check out were easy. Recommend the Turkish place nearby for dinner takeaway! And our room worked very well for the three of us (an adult and two kids).

Absolutely lovely stay. John was a fantastic host and the room was lovely. So very clean and easy enough to unload our luggage and get comfy. John was kind and welcoming and in the morning had a nice simple spread for breakfast and then we got to feed the alpacas and sheep which was unique! Definitely recommend a stay here as the property was beautiful just watch your drive in!

Odd place it was really chaotic and messy when we arrived, but the owner did tell us he's selling and getting rid of the place. Breakfast isnt free, the free food is very limited but the kitchen looked unhygienic anyway. Room was nicely equipped and the surrounds are beautiful but there's a steep dirt road to drive in which wasn't mentioned. I wouldn't go to the nearby city of Dunedin it is unsafe and full of junkies.

Very happy we picked this place to stay! It was perfect, kids loved the animals, rooms were clean and spacious, and they were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again next time we are in Dunedin area

The owner, John, was very accomodating, and worked with us when we needed to adjust our itinerary. The bed was comfortable and room was clean. We especially liked the environment stay in a country lodge. It was nice seeing alpaca and sheep nearby.

Loved the whole stay there - super beautiful setting with a little hill and valley you directly look at from your windows, with sheep and alpacas. And all that with huge trees behind the house as backdrop for this scenery. Lovely host!

Stayed one night and had a great experience! Due to delays in our travel schedule we had to check-in late and were unable to contact the property regarding this. We arrived with an envelope addressed to myself with all the information needed! The room was large, very clean and the hospitality was amazing! The next morning we had the opportunity to speak with the owner and help feed their sheep and alpacas! I would strongly recommend staying at Hunters Moon and if I ever return I will stay here again

Just fantastic. John is a super host. We stayed in Mosgiel during the storm in oct -25. Total black out in the area. But John was prepared. Diesel generator, solar panels and batteries. And wifi was working the whole time. He even prepared for extra people, just in case. And the surroundings… well you have to see it. The apartement was great. Two bedrooms, three beds, kitchen, everything you need.

Hunters Moon is a total delight. Owner/host John Nelson is a gem--so welcoming and flexible. Our room was lovely and comfortable, feeding sheep and alpacas was much fun. Just fantastic. John is a super host. We stayed in Mosgiel during the storm in oct -25. Total black out in the area. But John was prepared. Diesel generator, solar panels and batteries. And wifi was working the whole time. He even prepared for extra people, just in case. And the surroundings… well you have to see it. The apartement was great. Two bedrooms, three beds, kitchen, everything you need.

We checked in Hunters Moon looking for a quiet time after Otago uni open days with all the running around that is involved. It was the best decision. We woke up to birds chirping and slept to the peaceful clear skies with the moon and the stars...John the owner was expecially kind and friendly. He helped with our daughter's mobile after it fell into the ocean. He goes the extra mile. Everything was clean and perfect. We felt right at home with family. Highly recommended...will definitely come back 😀.

Close to the airport. Very peaceful and quiet, not close to any busy roads, beautiful surrounding and hills. 18-20 minutes to get to Dunedin but very close to Mosgiel. At the back of the property it looks like possibly still working on a Little construction but very organized. Host was over the top very kind and very informative. Thank you. Bruce & Janice W. Located only 20-30 minutes drive from Dundedin city centre, but in countryside setting, tucked out of the way. Quiet. Clean and comfortable room with a modern clean en suite shower room. Very comfortable bed. Small fridge with freezer compartment and a microwave, in a cupboard.Kettle. Access to a guest kitchen - but we took up the continental breakfast option (cereal, juices, toast, butter, etc). Small table and a couple of chairs outside - we used one to supplement the chair in the room when it rained. Very nice host - who was available during the breakfast service and for the daily feeding of the alpacas, sheep and chicken. Good WiFi. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay and it made a good base to explore the Dunedin area.

The owner John was very personable and knowledgeable and gave advice about more travel. Feeding the alpacas and sheep was a unique experience. The sunset was beautiful and peaceful. Did not book breakfast but owner was accommodating and flexible and added it. Good continental breakfast, good choices. Liked the heated towel rung in bathroom.

There is not a lot to like about Hunters Moon. The room was hot and it was very noisy outside. No views whatsoever. Breakfast was rather like a hostel; help yourself. If you wanted a latte or cappucino you had to pay for it.

Farmstay on the outside; typical hotel room on the inside (plus a nice view of the farm). Had a guest kitchen, but it was a bit pokey like it was also part storage room - the microwave was attached to a wall brace that made it feel like it was going to fall off at any moment! Continental breakfast was fine.

Absolutely lovely stay. John was a fantastic host and the room was lovely. So very clean and easy enough to unload our luggage and get comfy. John was kind and welcoming and in the morning had a nice simple spread for breakfast and then we got to feed the alpacas and sheep which was unique! Definitely recommend a stay here as the property was beautiful just watch your drive in!

The facilities were excellent and the host John was friendly and congenial and throughout our stay ensured we had everything we needed. He was informative about the local area and recommended things to see which was much appreciated. A bonus was we really enjoyed feeding the animals and learnt a lot about alpacas.
