Gunn House Hotel

Stayed here overnight to go to an Ironstone Winery concert in Murphys. Clean, comfy, and very nostalgic of the gold rush era. Cute rooms with AC that works okay-ish. Nice pool! Super lovely staff that runs this historic landmark hotel, which is conveniently located within short walking distance to nice eateries and restaurants, as well as adorable shops in Sonora

The property has plenty of vintage charm and low prices. The staff was pleasant and check-in was a breeze. The bed was comfortable. However, the room we stayed in could use several repairs and paint. There were broken chairs and dead plants all around the property too. There was quite a bit of highway noise as well, which I suppose I should’ve just expected since it’s on a major thoroughfare. Also, the pool had not been treated in quite a while based on the algae build up. We skipped it on a very hot day. Lastly, one of our pillows had a dirty foot print on it. We are not very picky at all, especially when the price is right, but I thought others should know some of these details.

The hotel had plenty of parking. There is a lower lot and a upper lot. The hotel is in the heart of downtown Sonora. Beautiful location. The hotel has great character. Very old feeling which takes you back in time. The staff was excellent and would definitely stay at the Gunn House any time I'm in Sonora.

Room was clean and nice. It was cold outside and there was only a small heater to heat the room. The hotel is not friendly for the the elderly or people that have a hard time with stairs. No parking for check in. Parking overnight was horrible.

Not complaining for the price but the hotel is old and on the main drag so it's not quiet. Had to run the AC for white noise. Pool is great in the summer. Staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast is okay but not great. But like I said, for the price it's pretty good and just fine for an overnight stay. I wouldn't stay for more than one night though. I would spend more money and stay at a nicer property.

I enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. I researched Gunn House with the help of AI and was fascinated by the history of this 175 year old building. The room was clean. All the Furnishings in my room were antique and I would love to have taken all of it with me. The layout of the hotel is a little confusing. I had a difficult time finding my room at first. If your physically challenged by high steps and steep staircases you may want to choose another Hotel. The breakfast was excellent.

I don’t write negative reviews often. And this isn’t to slam the property just an FYI, and do better kind of review… first, the guy who checked me in was falling asleep as he checked me in… this was about 4pm. Second, sheets were clean? But had hairs all over them… third, towels were not visibly clean, after seeing the bed I cautiously approached the towels… there were little hairs in them. I can handle hair… but then I opened up one of the bath towels and it had brown streaks in it… I did not mention to staff because I figured “new” towels would probably be same condition… like I said do better. Historic and dirty are two different things.

Walls are dirty, bed spread was stained, huge bugs in the shower, WiFi was inadequate, not enough shower pressure to take a shower, no hot water in the shower. I was literally shocked at the condition of the room. If it wasn’t for the fact that we had a long hard drive to get there, I would have gone elsewhere but it was only one night so we roughed it. If I was the owner I would be embarrassed to have people stay in that room.

The room was tidy, but in serious need of a deep clean, and I found ringmarks and hair on the tables and other surfaces. The walls were thin, and in my street-facing room I could hear traffic all day and night in addition to my neighbors in other rooms.

Staff was not good, room was dirty and smelled of Marijuana. Staff was not concerned

Would not recommend this property. Rooms facing the street are extremely noisy, doors and windows have large gaps, Sheer curtains on the doors allow lighting from local Businesses to flood the room with light. Room was dirty under the bed and furnishings. Spider webs in the light fixtures. exposed raised nails on the floor and casework.

My room did not have the working bathroom lights, which the staff member was able to fix right away. Went to shower, noticed old bar of used soap in the tub, the towels were hung and looked new, but ended up being extremely dirty with stains and makeup marks. When I pulled back the bedsheets I noticed hair on the dirty bedsheets. The staff member on duty was accommodating and switched me to a new room.

Lots of spider webs and spider in the room. Water pipe fully clog with no water flowing, not sure what checking was performed to mark the room as ready.

Insects in the bed. The rooms were dirty. The GREAT breakfast was non-existent. It was supposed to start at 7:30 am and the door was locked. No breakfast. I would give this place ZERO stars if I could.

The staff were friendly and the room met our basic needs. If there had been a mini fridge, coffee pot, and cleaner(newer) carpet and bedding it would have been perfect. The hitel is an historic building full of charm.

The hotel we stayed in was made in the 1850s. The room was set up in a traditional vintage stage. Although there was no refrigerator, no microwave, no coffee pot, it was still nice. It felt like we were experiencing the vintage era of its time. But there was air-conditioning thank goodness, cause it was really hot in Sonora.

The bed. Was so freaking hard. I had to cut my stay short by one night.

No refrigerator, no coffee maker, no microwave. Bathroom was freezing and the toilet seat was loose. Good price and the staff was good.

All great except the road noise overnight.

The good: Historic building. Pleasant room decorations.Bathroom clean and stylish. The bad: Very noisy if your room fronts the street. Too small. TV did not work. Wifi intermittent.

Although the room was clean, the decor was terrible. The hot water didn't work in the bathroom sink. The air conditioner was extremely loud. The bed was not comfortable.

We stayed for a couple of nights. The AC stopped working correctly the second night.

They asked for a credit card upon arrival i figured it was to have on file for incidentals but then they proceeded to charge my card 2 separate times for 2 different amounts if youbstay here keep a eye on your account

Clean room, staff service was slow and unresponsive at times but they were very friendly! Great breakfast :). Overall okay experience. For the price, it’s a good choice

The guy on reception was friendly and helpful at check in even though he wasn’t there when we arrived, we had to call him. We got to the room and it wasn’t the cleanest. Lots of dust and sticky surfaces, mold in the shower and stained towels. We had to ask for a clean towel and we had to call the guy on reception yet again as no one was around. In the morning we went for breakfast at 7.30 as he said it would be open. There was no one around. Another guest called him and he said he was on his way. We had to leave as we had a booking so had no breakfast. He knew we had a booking and told us breakfast would be open. The website states breakfast opens at 5am which confused other guests staying.

We loved the potential of this eclectic hotel. Room was great. Does have a/c but took awhile to cool down. Lots of different sitting areas to enjoy. We had to wait 15 minutes to get checked in. Had to call a number because no one was at front desk to assist us. After all day traveling and checking in around 4pm, we expected someone to be there. In the parking area, there was a wasp nest hanging on the fence and I got stung twice. We told the receptionist this to hopefully help someone else to not get stung and it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Breakfast is advertised on their website starting at 5am, fresh baked, innkeeper’s breakfast buffet. I thought that was an unusual time but thought it was great for those hitting the road early. We were told that the breakfast wasn’t until 7:30 when we checked in. I mentioned what the website showed and he kind of chuckled and said no. That was disappointing but we stayed to have coffee (none in the room nor in reception area) and a quick bite. However, 7:30 rolls around and there is NO activity in the breakfast room. We called the number again and same person shows up. He promised to make coffee and some type of food, which was obviously not going to happen quickly. We left without any breakfast or coffee, which is ok except it’s advertised differently. Another couple left also and said they had the same issue checking in. The Gunn House has great potential, but these problems and empty promises need addressed.

Clean room, courteous staff, and large room. The hotel is unique in its design and layout, which makes it fun to walk around the building and appreciate how old it is. The room decor helps you get the feel of a different time, very cozy. I'll be back

The room was old school, but it is a Historic hotel. It was dusty. Concierge was friendly but super busy. Power went out one night and cable was out for two nights. Fantastic bathroom. Nice pool. Great price.

The man who runs the front desk is combative and odd. We felt very uncomfortable here

The history of the hotel, as well as the location, was great. The gentleman who checked us in seemed to be in charge of everything, including breakfast, which was great. He was friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.

Liked the room and area, partiers late into the night, no TP in bathroom, outside garbages overflowing, breakfast an hour late ( both mornings), shower did not work, as well as tub filled up (clogged). The poor guy working was doing so alone. In his defense, he did what he could and was very polite, but there was just too much for one person. Housekeeping could have done better, and the caliber of guests was lacking...

Historic hotel. We stayed for our Yosemite trip. Great location with a nice town and plenty of restaurants close by. The staff gave exceptional service. Awesome breakfast. Highly recommend.

Liked it ,very centrally located.

It was an affordable price, but the bed was very hard, the traffic was so loud that it vibrated the room all day and night. The only good thing was that it was walkable to the downtown area.

The breakfast is impressive with homemade cakes and a frittata and the coffee is good. Also the usual breakfast stuff like the waffle maker.

Friendly staff with quick check in. Great town, hotel is in a perfect location. Very quiet also during the night. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

amazing place. this family works hard and it shows. Most historic hotels are quaint but not comfortable. This hotel is wonderful -rooms are charming, pool really nice, and breakfast area can't say enough. Well worth your stay

Room was comfortable four an over 150 year old hotel. “Free” breakfast was not very edible. Condiments ran out and were not replaced. Only the coffee was fresh..

The Gunn House is a historic inn. Expect older antique furniture and surroundings. The breakfast is home cooked egg casserole, muffins. cake and make your own waffles, plus toast, cereal, jelly, and peanut butter. Hot coffee. Harry was great and not only cooked breakfast but made sure everything was replenished. Quiet and efficient wall heater. Plenty of hot water for your shower. All was very nice.
