Fortress Inn Louisbourg

It was a small inn but when it’s off season there is absolutely no options for breakfast. There is a pool table, darts and ping pong that kept us busy before turning in for the night. Pictures are deceiving.

We had to change room due to mold in the bathroom. We got another room without a problem but had to ask to get the refrigerator moved too. No microwave or coffee in the room. Great location with very nice people but the inn needs a lot of work. On the plus side the Jake’s restaurant inside the motel was very very good.

Water in toilet was running permanently and was noisy especially at night, mattresses were a catastrophy, breakfast was ok but very limited. They do have billiard tabels for free and table tennis inside the bar/restaurant and a good variety of drinks in the bar.

A restaurant is advertised on site but wasn't open. No place to eat in town so had to drive 15 min out of town to find a gas station that had take out pizza

Need to update your ad. There isn’t laundry here as stated. The breakfast was continental however your option was toast or cereal. Need to up the game here.

We stayed one night as a stop over for louisburg fort and cabot trail. Room was clean, but dated, a/c worked, and for what we needed ( a 1 night stop over) it was fine. This is not the Hilton, so dont expect it to be. It is the only inn in town and for the price point was fine for our family

Barman had to check us in as no front staff. Advertised bar, restaurant and cafe. Only bar was open. Avertised including breakfast, no restaurant,no food, no cafe, no breakfast.

Its great to be able to find a motel for an affordable stay. Park the car, right in front of your room, so handy for unpacking & security. The Fortress Inn has most things you need for a stay, microwave & fridge in room, clean plain bathroom & choice of rooms with different bed options, table & chairs, desk & tv. Morning staff was more than accomodating for a late breakfast. You wouldn't get that in a corporate hotel if they were finished their breakfast service. We attend events at the Fortress Louisbourg & can go more often & stay 2 nights because of the affordability. Thank you Fortress Inn.

We stayed here one night. Rooms are generally clean, albeit a little dated. Decent size. There was a fridge and microwave in the room which was handy. The location is great for visiting the Louisberg fortress and the light house. the light house is a five min drive and the fortress entrance is 6 min drive. They do provide a breakfast. Nothing fancy. cereal and toast and what looked like powdered eggs. Parking is easy. the staff were friendly.

Have stayed here 4 years in a row, usually in room 1 or 2 which we found clean w/amenities (good fridge, sm tv, microwave) This year, given room #5 which has noticeable deficiencies. Separating wallpaper, gouges in walls, ceiling, cobwebs in bathroom & stained caulking in bathtub surround. Air conditioning unit in real need of a clean.Dirty grid,vents & questionable mold status. Some concern with extension cords used for appliances, tv., lack of outlets to use safely. While its appreciated that property is dated & the per night cost is more reasonable than nearby hotels, maintenance issues speak to a lack of care. Paved areas near doors have collected debris & dirt which could easily be sorted with a few minutes of sweeping. Dissatisfied with lack of information given on check in. Outside of a few daytime hours, we found the lobby & lounge locked, could not get in or find any staff. Got up early to have breakfast the next morning but everything locked up, had to go to convenience store down the road for a coffee. Breakfast lounge area was always open in the past & staff were very helpful. Should have been told when registering, especially after we said we had been there many times in the past, that you will be given room key & then you're on your own. Btw, at least 6 cars here, so its not an empty motel. Sorry to say, we weren't satisfied with our 2 night stay. Mainly due to decline & lack of service. No in person opportunity to share concerns with before 11a.m ckout.

I have traveled extensively both internationally & domestically & have never given a hotel a “1” rating, however, in all fairness to travelers, I must say this hotel deserves a “1.” The lady who checked us in was very nice, but it went downhill from there. The room does not look anything like the pictures; in reality, the room is old and run down. The mattress on 1 of the beds should have been thrown away long ago. It had a huge valley in the center & when you sat on the edge, all you felt was the metal frame around the springs. The wallpaper is coming off the walls. There was no hot water in the bathroom sink & the faucet in the tub dripped constantly. On top of that, there’s mold around the tub, on the bathroom ceiling, & in the air conditioner vents. The A/C unit was a window air conditioner, but it was so dirty and moldy that you were constantly breathing unhealthy air. Plus, the curtain completely covered the A/C unit so it couldn’t cool the room even if you used it. The continental breakfast consisted of toast, coffee, tea, 2 choices of dry cereal (but I didn’t see any milk), orange juice, & processed egg patties. When I told the staff (owner?) about the no hot water, & about the bed, he said the problem with the bed was that it slipped off the frame! (The reality is, the beds were on platforms, not frames.) It was obvious they didn’t care & nothing is going to be done to improve things. You definitely DO NOT want to stay here.

Rooms were not clean. There was dust around the tables and lamp. The bathroom was dirty and the shower had bugs and spiders. The overall feel of the room was very poor. Breakfast was disaster. The cups for juice were dirty enough for you to see. There was hardly any choice for food. There was no staff present during breakfast and a dreadful music was playing, making the atmosphere even more creepy. I really hope they improve the facility. The current conditions are very bad.

Problem with water pressure and mold in bathroom. Hangers rusty and very difficult to find an outlet to charge anything.

Wished we had read reviews in advance. Room was so depressing and dirty. Our feet were black from walking on the floor. The tap dripped all night. The paint was peeling off the walls and ceiling. The bed sagged and was uncomfortable. TV didn’t work. Smelled moldy. Moldy shower curtain.

The hotel room that we were in had a lot of mold on the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. Hotel should be closed down and cleaned up and definitely not on Expedia.I will never stay there again and should be reported to the tourism board of Nova Scotia.very disappointed in the price that was charged.

C\'est très bien nettoyé... mais il y a des limites à ce qu\'on peut faire quand il faut des rénovations! Plancher-draps-meubles-bain-lavabos très propres (mais au look défraichi), mais quand les moulures de bas de mur de la salle de bain sont complètement moisis, la chambre reste désagréable à cause de l\'odeur d\'humidité et de moisissures. Le bâtiment principal semble beaucoup mieux. Mais les deux annexes à l\'arrière ont vraiment besoin d\'être refaits. De plus, Expedia annonce "buanderie" comme services disponibles. C\'est faux. Il y a une buanderie au bout du village, pas au motel, ce qui est évidemment mal expliqué sur le site de Expédia. Et littéralement la moitié des machines de cette buanderie du village étaient hors d\'usage quand j\'y suis allée. Dire que j\'avais choisi ce motel principalement en raison de l\'option buanderie supposément "sur place", Bref, j\'ai payé deux nuits, mais je ne suis restée qu\'une nuit, craignant trop que l\'asthme de mon chum se déclenche avec l\'état de la chambre. La ville de Louisbourg est triste et moribonde, mais j\'ai a-do-ré la forteresse où je suis resté de 9h30 à 16h30. Ça vaut le détour et la nuit dans un motel décevant! ;-)

This property is almost a tear down. It's water damaged. Black mold on the bathroom ceilings, walls, around the tub. Mold on the air conditioners. We changed rooms and the second was worst than the first. Noisey partiers outside our window in the middle of the night, these were employees of the hotel. Very little for blankets on the bed... Half the hotel was inhabitable due to water damage. Shower was great at first then lost pressure and turned cold....

Ugly painting which makes it shabby looking. Mold in tub/shower….yuk!

Bed was central curving

The bed wasnt very comfortable and the ac didnt give cold air. Also didnt like having to leave a deposit for the room on my debit considering I had paid all in advance. The staff were very nice and friendly though. Basic motel for a quick night sleep and not too expensive. Would stay again if they upgraded their mattresses

Overall it was passable for an inexpensive place to sleep. Breakfast was fine. My biggest complaint is that the unit we were in had a defective lock. It took me 10 minutes to figure out just how to wiggle the knob to make it lock.

The door wouldn't unlock to get us in to the room. We had to go to get the person in charge to come and help us unlock it. He said the lock really needs to be changed. There were no extra blankets in the room and it was cold. There was only a sheet and a thin bedspread and the heat took a long time to warm up the room. There wasno heat in the was no heat in the bathroom

Was not worth the price at all. The room is very spartan, although there is a microwave, a fridge and a keurig coffee maker with 4 pods. The washroom has no outlet nor is there one near the washroom area. The towels are thin and the tub is water stained. The room itself is basic. The mattress is and feels old, the baseboard heaters barely provide heat even with the thermostat set to max, so you find the room being cold. In terms of safety, the smoke detector battery compartment was empty and left open (pushing the test showed it was u/s), electrical socket plates were not secured to the wall and the baseboard metal frontal plate was missing. The hotel manager was friendly enough though. Only issue was that to find her, you had to go to the attached bar at the back of the motel.

Pain was chipping off the walls, bed was like a 400 pound person slept on it. We kept rolling to the middle of mattress. Bed rattled and creaked every time we moved.

I stayed in room 34. Needs a new bed. It was so uncomfortable and noisy. Every time I moved it squeaked so loud that it would wake my dog up. Made for 2 long nights.

The bolt lock on the room door didnt lock properly and there was no standard outlet in the bathroom. Check in and out was simple though.

A good place to stay if visiting the Louisbourg Fortress national site. Staff here were extremely helpful with some additional needs unrelated to the motel stay.

Customer service was great, we had a late check-in and we recieved a call to ask when we planned to arrive and to tell us what time the front desk closed for check-in and the proceedure if we arrived later then that time. Every day we were there we were asked if there was anyting we need. Very friendly Staff. Room was clean and quiet.when traveling we try to stay in and support local and when traveling all that is needed is a clean room with a comfortable bed as we are only there to get a good night sleep which we got here.

Poorly maintained very poor customers service

Staff very friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable and probably could use updating.

Room was clean enough, and check in was an easy process. It's dated but we weren't planning on spending much time in the room anyway. There isn't much variety in the area for restaurants so we just drove the half hour to Sydney to get supper. Breakfast is included and is fine The problems arose the next morning when we were getting ready to check out. The faucet fell off in the bathtub while one of us was showering. We tried to call and tell the staff immediately but the phone line wouldn't connect. The first time we tried to go to the front office to tell someone, no one was there and the second time it was just the woman serving breakfast. She had us write the problem and the contact number on a sticky and she would have someone get back to us, but it's been hours and we've yet to hear from someone. Our main concern is that we aren't charged with an extra fee for an issue that isn't our fault.

We had a very comfortable stay at this small local Inn, in particular the lady on the front desk, Bal Kaur went above and beyond to help us with a minor problem in our room. We would recommend staying here

After correcting a confusion of booking and room type the stay was good. I would especially like to thank the hotel owners and staff for allowing a late checkout so we could attend a funeral. That act of kindness will be remembered.

The room was fairly “basic” in most respects, but quite adequate for the price paid. The one thing I was REALLY impressed by was the quality of customer service displayed by the front desk staff, who were super-friendly, and went out of their way to help me on several occasions (most notably, obtaining a drive back to Sydney when my original ride fell through) … impressed me very much!

The two phone numbers provided within the reservation package for this property (plus posted on their front door) either did not work or resulted in a recording that messages could not be left. After that was resolved and check in was completed, the first room assigned to me had yet to be cleaned - food remnants were still on a table, floor was dirty and bed unchanged. Second room assigned was very musty and had many flies buzzing in the room. Third room was satisfactory

Bien situé pour un cours arrêt en voyage. Hôtel a grandement besoin d’être rafraîchi. Quand même propre même si tout est vieux. Les lits étaient confortables. Très près de la forteresse de Louisbourg et des quelques restaurants disponibles.

The room was clean and tidy, and the air conditioning worked well - essential given the heat wave we drove into in the Maritimes. Bed was comfortable and the shower had decent pressure. The morning breakfast was simple but a good start to the day. Not fancy but a solid low cost option for the budget traveler. As for the location, it's a 10 minute drive to the Fort, and (if you need it) a laundromat just up the road. We didn't have too many interactions with the staff but they were always friendly and helpful.

The website said free breakfast and a restaurant on property. None were available and were told it was a seasonal thing. There was no coffee perks in the room. Which meant a 15 minute drive to get coffee in the morning. No phone in room Not a lot of toiletries Basically a bare bones situation. Will not recommend staying there to anyone. We will not be back.

Staff were good but the restaurant was wanting -- they eere out of just abouy everything. What we ended up eatimg was okay buy the selection was reduced to very little.

Continental Breakfast - water for making the instant oatmeal was cold. BASICALLY TOAST AND ORANGE JUICE

The motel is ok. The room is dated with an uncomfortable bed. Breakfast was all starch, no yogurt or fruit.
