The Shankly Hotel

Good sized rooms at a reasonable rate. Nice location with a lot of places to eat and drink around. Staff were pleasant. No shower curtain on the shower/tub. Parking below the hotel, but it was difficult to pay/register since the app required can’t be downloaded on a foreign phone. We had to ask the check-in staff for help, which didn’t go as smoothly as it could have. I’d stay here again if i’m in the area. 2nd floor room was quite loud from street noise.

Lovely hotel, staff friendly, rooms were really nice, bed comftable. Location was spot on. Rooftop terrace bar is a must.

Although they have a restaurant, there is no room service. The staff at the check-in counter were disinterested. The room was nice, though.

Parking is a nightmare

We booked an overnight stay in what was the hottest day of the year and was given a really nice family room, Later we had issues with the air-con and the staff at the Hotel went above and beyond to try and fix the issue, when it couldn’t be fixed they swapped out room with no issues. The room was large well equipped for for adults, very comfortable and had a jacuzzi bath and an extra shower, the only down side is the roof top bar was not in use as being refurbished.

Staff on arrival not particularly welcoming, however on checkout the member of staff was lovely and very friendly. We were not made aware on booking that we would need photo ID with matching bank card - luckily my daughter had hers as my driving licence is a non photo one! Car park in basement is very handy, although quite busy when we arrived and spaces quite tight. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

Bar closed 10.30 as noone was in so couldnt get a night cap drink after being to football match also bar was part of same room as restaurant

The hotel parking is inconvenient and really hard to find a space.

I did not have a good experience at the Shanky Hotel. We got to the hotel at 2pm and wait for quite a while in line to only not be able to check in 30 mins early. The hotel looked very nice in the pictures so we were excited to get some good rest in our room. The room cleanliness was horrible. Their were hits and bugs in the tube when we filled it. Dust all over the light fixtures, blood on the bed sheets, and hair in the bed. Luckily we had extra beds. Also, there must have been some severe water damage in the room that was completely fixed; ceiling were peeling and floor was buckled throughout the bathroom. Very poor quality of the room and absolutely different than the pictures. Very disappointed and unable about overpaying. We were also unable to get the breakfast buffet because it open late at 7:30 and we needed to be at the train station 7:45am.

Very tatty and dated room. Dusty and cleaning not up to standard. Wooden floors all chipped and doors not painted at bottom.Windowsill was dirty and stained and hallway carpets badly stained. Lift was dirty also. Couldnt sleep due to nouse from room above. Food not bad and the breakfast waitress was lovely.

Awful cleanliness - eyelashes on the floor in the bathroom, TV didn't work, hot/water tap was broken and fell off, sinks were blocked in the kitchen and bathroom. Told staff on check out - did nothing and let me leave with a 'sorry for the inconvenience'

Heard such good things about the quirky rooms but the rooms are tired and dated hallway carpets are stained the water pressure is awful the shower stops running if you flush the toilet the wallpaper is peeling and the aircon does not work our wardrobe smelt like someone had vomited inside it couldn’t hang our clothes up. There was a portable aircon unit provided with 3 wheels that also did not work! The lobby looks good but again lots of damage when you look closely desperately needs an update not worth what we paid we may as well of stayed at the Premier Inn, when we checked out we were not asked about our stay but we definitely would not return here!

I was so excited about this hotel but once I came to my room I found so much dust on the lights and mirrors, bedding was smelling as used, in jacuzzi I found hairs and the drawer were dirty. I expected much better for the price I’ve paid.

The room was ok very rustic. The windows were dying to be cleaned and the bathroom was not cleaned properly there was dust everywhere and the floors were dirty my white socks were black after 10 minutes.Very disappointed after the amount I have paid.

The rooms and communal areas are both very worn, beat up, not maintained. The first room we had (310) stank of mould and mildew and my allergies reacted instantly. Then we moved to another room (208) and the small window didn’t open, there were weird pillars and you couldn’t move around the room easily, and there was a big vent that was spurting out dust. Like my phone was covered in dust after one hour. Not safe! The staff and housekeeping team are friendly and professional, it’s a shame the building is in such a state. Perhaps that’s why they have so many cleaning crew, to keep up with the dust because the vents just keep spitting it out! It looks NOTHING like the photos. The carpets are stained, there are dents in the walls, tears on the side of the bed, the desks are beat up, bits of floor missing everywhere. I feel bad for Mr. Shankly because they’re using his name.

This is a popular hotel for bachelorette parties because the rooms are huge and can accommodate many. I wish they were a little better about noise control past a certain time. Both nights rowdy guests woke us up because they were directly across from our room (2-3am). I should have researched a little better before booking this stay, we mainly stayed here because of its Liverpool football history. We came to Liverpool primarily to visit the stadium and check out the area hoping to return for a match. Would I stay here again, probably not. The huge jacuzzi tub was really nice to have though.

We stayed at your hotel on 24th June. When planning trips for one night I would usually be more than happy as we know the standard is good and we have a good nights sleep. On this occasion when booking we saw your hotel advertised and thought we would treat ourselves to something a bit more up market. The hotel is advertised as a 4 star “stylish, comfortable, unique experience” all of these things are unfortunately lacking. While the lobby offers a quirky and inviting environment this is where it ends. The hotel is dated, worn and is desperate need of renovation. While this is not the core reason for the complaint it certainly is a factor contributing to our disappointment. On the night of our stay we arrived back at our hotel after a concert eager to get some rest. Unfortunately this was when the main reason of the complaint arose. The room clearly has poor quality windows resulting in lack of sleep and it felt like we were sleeping outside. I understand that this is a city centre hotel, however the noise level in room 209 was magnified due to the lack of double glazing and steps taking to minimise this for customers. When checking in we joked with staff about a free upgrade and was advised they were fully booked so we knew that our only options was to remain in the room. As well as the outside noise any time there was movement in the room next door, the walls are so thin you felt that the other guests were in our room. I addressed our concerns with the staff in the morning

It should be a stunning hotel but it’s really tired and neglected in so many areas. We really liked our room but no phones in the rooms so you have to walk downstairs if a problem or something is missing, our breakfast first day was good, second day was awful,barely any food left at 9.40. Very young staff who although were pleasant lacked experience. Rooms were lovely but dark and tired looking. Tv in the weirdest position so had to alll lie on side to watch it laying in bed, with lamp in the way. Shame, it could have been perfect but really needs tidying up.

Great location - themed rooms are spacious and quirky and awesome views from level 5 . Note some rooms have rain showers nonstop in shower so if you have mobility issue book a room with a walk in shower. Wifi issues in higher level rooms. Overall great location for train station and main attractions - close to shops /restaurants Staff very friendly and helpful at front desk and restaurant.

Great location and excellent room sizes for a larger group. Recommended for a weekend in Liverpool

The hotel is in a great location and definitely has the party vibe. Rooms are spacious and the beds are comfy. Staff are friendly and helpful. However, with how pricey the hotel is, the rooms could benefit from a sprucing up with lots of fixtures and fittings looking scuffed and worn as well as bathrooms only having a waterfall shower which makes not getting your hair wet very tricky.

Stay was ok but the parking was difficult and only 15 minutes to pay for parking but no signal as underground and when got signal the app or webpage didn’t work. Rooms are okay but the double bed was just two single beds put together so wasn’t very comfy and falsely advertised in my opinion. Rooms are nice but need updating the sink was damaged bath was dirty and tv remote kept constantly not work aswell as the charger ports.

Very poor welcome, arrived slightly early so went to ask if it was ok to park car and leave bags. Told that car park wasn’t working and we would have to find an alternative, they were unable to give us accurate directions so after driving back to the hotel we asked someone else for directions and asked for our luggage to be looked after, our cases weee taken rather grudgingly. When we returned we checked in, weren’t given a very warm welcome and asked for a £50 deposit each as well as payment for the the room. We weren’t given any information about dining arrangements. The room was nice and big and the beds very comfortable but the room lacked any of the niceties you would expect when paying almost£300 per night. No biscuits, no toiletries and only basic refreshments. We had dinner later, food was ok but we hair to wait over 45 minutes for our second course despite asking where our food was several times. We were given a bottle of wine as an apology. On the third night after eating out we thought it would be nice to have a nightcap. We were told we could only sit in an unlit area as the other are was setup for breakfast - this surprised us as we didn’t even know they served breakfast. I would not go back to the hotel again, some of the staff were very pleasant but it was clear staff had very little trading. I am angry that this booking site has charged an excessive amount of money for a stay in a hotel that is not even as good as a Premiier Inn.

Check in was supposed to be 3pm but we had to wait half an hour to check In because the cleaners were still cleaning the room. If it states 3pm check in then the room should be ready by that time. Also they were not clear with the room number. Just handed us keys and did not give us a card with the number of the room. We had to come back down to ask for the room Number.

Loved the reception staff... they were first class... made our stay at the hotel amazing, the Rooms are very clean and in a great location...

Good room, reception staff not over helpful. When asked for any first aid kits (needed plasters) we were told “I’ll not charge you for them.” This made the request for plaster feel like we were being an inconvenience. During turn down service we were left with dirty cups and mugs with no coffee or milk replenishment and had to go to reception to get these. Staff in the restaurant at breakfast were very cheery and helpful, couldn’t fault them.

This is the second time I’ve completed this survey, please sort it out. Upon arrival, I was informed at reception that my booking hadn’t been paid for, and I was charged again on the spot. This wiped out my budget before I even had a chance to enjoy my trip. I explained that I had already paid and asked to speak with the manager. Although the manager did eventually refund the payment, the money had already left my account, which caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. The customer service was unacceptable. On top of that, the room was dated and looked nothing like the images online. I will not be staying here again, and I won’t be using Hotels.com in the future.

The Shankly is a great mix of swanky style and welcoming service. It’s conveniently located for everything you need, close to transport and walkable to many attractions. All of the staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome.

Elegant building in the centre of Liverpool, 5-minute walk from the iconic Mathew Street,famous for its Beatles history, ideal for exploring the city, with Liverpool Lime Street station nearby and Albert Dock just 10 minutes away. Shankly boasts refined furnishings and spacious rooms with large, comfortable beds. We had high expectations, but some practical issues caused disappointment: the kettle was inside a wardrobe with no nearby surface or accessible socket. The power cord was too short to reach the socket on the lower wall, making it impossible to use on a chair. We had to improvise by placing a drawer from the bedside table on the floor and using that as a makeshift stand. When we raised this issue with reception, we were told there was nothing they could do.Our quadruple room, shared among four ladies, had only one desk and chair, and just a small wardrobe—far from adequate for our group. We requested a small table and additional chairs, but our request was denied. These small details, though seemingly minor, detracted from the comfort of our stay. A standout feature was the jet hot tub, which we thoroughly enjoyed each evening after long, wonderful walks exploring the city.In summary, the Shankly Hotel is a stylish and well-located place to stay in Liverpool. Practical improvements and more responsive service, are potential to deliver a truly exceptional guest experience. We hope our feedback can contribute to enhancing this already beautiful hotel.

Hotel is nice but really needs some repairs, we stayed for dinner, service was awful, very slow, we asked about the soup, 2 ordered it and soup was different when arrived, 2 courses came, the others took a long long time, wasn't even busy, manager finally came to sort it out, not sure I would stay again, there was a mix-up with gluten options, as labels said GF but then staff said it wasn't so was confusing, ideal for a group really and location was good, just disappointed as my recommendation so felt responsible

Beautiful hotel but the dining room staff weren't very helpful. Expected better breakfast and hospitality for the price. Also no complimentary water in the room.

Room was perfect for us as a group of ladies. Breakfast was well worth it, and Sue was amazing each morning to greet us and keep our coffee topped up. Xx

Quirky hotel that put a smile on our faces. Majority of women in the hotel and very mixed age groups. Great weekend stay and the breakfast was good too, with the exception of only being given option of scrambled eggs and not able to order any other type of eggs.

A very unique property, central to all our requirements, station etc, excellent staff and the cleanliness and responsiveness of the operations team was excellent. Breakfast plentiful but could do with extra care over the presentation and temperature. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience in a deluxe room.
