This property is a hidden gem. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The hotel itself is an icon in my opinion and very well done with a baron the reception floor, a restaurant on the floor below, and a dinner restaurant upstairs. Quiet and convenient. Very safe, just a gorgeous property with Starbucks and another breakfast place inside as well. Staff was exceptional, rooms and amenities perfect , clean and well done. There is also an old school barber onsite downstairs as well on the building. Will be back and would highly recommend over many of the other mid to high end hotels, just fabulous

Beautiful property. The room was very spacious and very quiet. The staff was very accommodating. My only advice to anyone booking would be to call ahead and see if there are any events being held there. We were visiting from California and were so excited to visit the rooftop bar with the retractable roof. Unfortunately, we were not able to due to a wedding party.

Outstanding hotel all around and a great restaurant on the roof. Lobby bar has a 5pm social hour, and the room with soaking tub was perfect for a cold weather recharge. Will be back.

This is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Chicago; walking distance from shopping, museums, theater. Dining options are plenty. Gym is state of the art. Delicious Breakfast and brunch at the Filmore which is on the first floor of the building. Staff is very nice and friendly. A place to relax and enjoy Chicago!

This hotel is gorgeous. I love Kimpton properties and this one didn't disappoint. The restaurants are always good and the staff are always kind. The gym is fantastic, especially for a hotel! And the rooms are beautiful. I will come again for sure.

Loved loved loved this hotel. There were so many extras in the details- the room smelled lovely when upon arrival, the water in the lobby was infused w grapefruit, the hotel scent was available for purchase, the lotions, shampoo, and conditioner was lovely. L The staff was exceptional. Note that the property doesn’t have the capability to stream apps on the TV which was a bummer. There is no pool.

The hotel staff were so welcoming to our dogs, and greeted them with a bag of treats. Kids were also welcome. The rooms were meticulously clean and comfortable. Wag hotel is one-mile down the street and offers exceptional dog day care. Our only frustration was parking, which was $100 per night. We suggest booking parking online at the 201 Madison parking garage (2 blocks from hotel).

Overall, our stay was 'fine', but there were a few things that felt off about our stay especially for the price. Upon entering the room, I noticed a lot of dust on specific areas close to the bed, and on the desk. There were also sticky marks left on surfaces from a previous guest. The tub also had tarnishes that suggested it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while. These details were off-putting, but I decided not to make a fuss about it with the property as they seemed unapproachable to begin with. My check-in was strange. I stay in a lot of hotels for work all over the world, and when I checked into Kimpton Grey, I felt like my presence was annoying for the check-in attendant. I was not greeted with enthusiasm, or even pleasantries. Instead, it felt cold, mechanical, and I don't even think the attendant greeted me or looked me in the eye. It was akin to purchasing gum at a corner store counter at the end of an employee's shift. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm really just trying to convey that the whole thing felt transactional, rather than me feeling like a 'guest' - which, to be honest, is a nice feeling when you're staying somewhere that isn't home. Customer service really matters to me in hospitality, and even at a basic level, Kimpton Grey just wasn't accommodating. When I asked politely about the lack of bottled water/anything in the minifridge in the room, the question was met with another cold response by a different attendant. I was just curious...

Check in was easy, everyone was friendly. Rooms were clean. It's a nice property, but the lobby was small and the rooms are really dark. I got a room that was facing straight into someone's apartment. I made eye contact with the individual living there multiple times throughout my stay. It was a fine stay, but I prefer a larger hotel with light and a bigger lobby that is slightly away from other buildings. Also, the lobby being on the second floor was an inconvenience as well.

Not a good room, pillar in an odd part of room. Seems like it was a storage area at some point in time that they decided to turn into another room. The view from the window was of an apartment building 15 feet away, made for a very dark and dreary stay. At 400 plus a night it was a bit of a let down.

I was assured that my room was "one ofnthr quietest" only to be assigned a room right across the elevator with a noisy in-suite HVAC and deep bass rumblings all night. Very disappointed as this is not the standard I've experienced at other Kimpton hotels in the past.

I booked the Kimpton Grey Hotel for my 21st birthday and I had high expectations due to the wonderful reviews. However, it took an hour and a half to check in due to servers being down. The ladies at the front desk were great but I missed my birthday dinner reservation. After returning to the hotel there was a different person at the front desk. We called to see if our food had been delivered to the front desk and he was incredibly rude for no reason and stated he was not bringing our food up which we did not ask. It was less than tasteful. Valet was very kind and helpful but overall it made my birthday pretty somber. I wouldn’t recommend this stay especially if you have an important event.

Upon arrival the staff checked me in without saying welcome.. she just asked for my ID & credit card then she welcomed me… odd She gave me my room keys and the only one of two keys worked on the elevator. I went to my assigned room to find the key not working and someone already inside! I go back downstairs, and the staff was so casual about this error. It’s so unsafe! And then said she wrote the wrong number. I went to check in and things were OK I had two insistences while I stayed where staff entered my room without permission. Even though they knocked they still proceeded to open the door. I will not be back

This was a sort of strange hotel. There were a lot of long empty hallways getting to the check-in on the second floor. I traveled with a friend. I booked the room but made sure to provide her information for a smooth check-in. They ended up taking her credit card information for incidentals, which was fine, but then when she checked out earlier than I did they told her they could not split the bill between our two cards (both on file) and charged her full price. Then when I checked out they charged me full price as well. She called when we got home and spoke to a very nice female manager who got our bills sorted out. But throughout the stay the front desk staff seemed very clueless. There is a restaurant on site but no actual room service - it\'s basically takeout delivered by the front desk. Which is ok, but this is billed as a boutique property and it\'s very expensive, and you basically get delivered a paper bag with plastic utensils - if you\'re lucky. I ordered soup and got a huge container with no spoon. It just was one thing after another like this, like they weren\'t even trying. The room itself was laid out nicely, lots of space. It was clean but felt dingy. There was some sort of divot in our carpet outside the bathroom by the door where the floor sort of sunk in under the carpet and we kept tripping on the "hole." Generally it felt dark and sort of creepy. I almost NEVER leave a bad review but for the money paid to stay here this felt like a solid three-star experience

The hotel staff are very warm and attentive. They do their best to help every guest. Guests can pick up bottled water at the front desk, and there is a spot at the entrance where you can temporarily park to load and unload your luggage.

We were able to check in earlier and check out later. Lots to do within a 20 minute walk. Customer service was excellent. Very nice and clean. Additionally, we needed some indigent items and they were provided to us. Will definitely stay here again.

I had a great stay at the Kimpton. The staff were terrific and my room was perfect - comfortable, quiet and roomy. When I booked I didn’t know enough about the city to realize how central I would be, but I walked everywhere that I wanted to go to - the lake, museums, restaurants in the west loop, the opera - all within an easy walk. Loved it.

Wonderful hotel chosen for access to metro stations. Easy 30 minute ride on the orange line from Midway. Also, only a few blocks from the Red line which takes us out to our daughter's apartment. Our room was recently updated and felt serene and well thought out. My husband used the gym and said it was perfectly adequate. The area is somewhat of a restaurant desert during the weekend but we had plans for most meals so that was not much of a problem. The staff were helpful and lovely. We were well taken care of. Housekeeping is efficient and detailed. We did have a problem in The Fillmore (restaurant on the property) but it seemed there must have been a staffing issue. We left after an hour with no food and no indication of when it would arrive. It was an off hour so we would try again on another visit. We will definitely be back to stay.

Staff where amazing! They had excellent tea selections ( yes tea lol). Food was really convenient, I ate dinner at the Boleo, and breakfast at the Fillmore. These restaurant where great with great service and the at located inaide the hotel. It was also a great location to Union Station. I had to catch a train and I was able to walk from the hotel to Union station in 12 minutes.

Very nice hotel, well located in business district. A little loud at night when there are sirens, but that’s probably true of most city hotels. It has a nice cool vibe, and the downstairs restaurant is good (though room service now has limited hours and doesn’t run Sunday nights)

This hotel is a hidden gem! Just wish the restaurant was open on Sundays & the rooftop bar was open later. We couldn’t get any food at the hotel later at night, (after the Stones Concert)!
