Our room had an incredible sea view overlooking the terminal where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Stunning! The owners have also created beautiful sitting rooms where guests can sit with a quiet beverage. The room had a 4 poster bed, the furnishings were beautiful and the whole experience exuded comfort, elegance and style. Highly recommended.

This was the last night of our 3 week Tasmanian road trip before heading off on the morning ferry. We wished we'd been able to stay longer at The Grand on Macfie because the hotel is simply beautiful with its superb period furnishings and decor, its luxe comforts and all because of the obvious dedication and love of the owners. We stated in the Queen Suite and it was comfort plus plus plus. The very high bed was so comfy that it was hard to leave in the morning. The cooked to order breakfast and coffee in the dining room was delicious. Many thoughtful touches made this special hotel even more memorable including complimentary shortbreads which were appreciated with coffee on the ferry home. Next time we come to Tasmania The Grand will be our first stop and we'll stay longer to soak up more of the beauty of its grounds and gorgeous gardens, location with views and rooms. Beautiful heritage property with large rooms and communal spaces. The included breakfast was delicious and owner/managers were friendly and went above and beyond to share travel tips and accommodate our needs (including waiting for us to arrive off the Spirit of Tas to check in). Great location and easy parking. The complimentary shortbread was delicious.

Hosts Paul and Brenden were a delight! Staying at The Grand is like taking a step back in time. The facilities are superbly renovated and the old charm of early Australia has been retained throughout the property. The rooms are extremely comfortable with all the modern amenities and the breakfast cooked by our hosts was absolutely delicious. The property is conveniently located a short walk into town where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend The Grand on Macfie to anyone stopping in Devonport. You will not be disappointed!

A grand building circa 1899 with some superb period sensitive enhancements. The decor and furnishings held our interest for the entire stay. Hosts Paul and Brendan were fabulous, knowledgeable and passionate about their work to recreate this grand homestead. Highly recommand a stay. We will be back.

It is a heritage property and the guys who run it are fastidiously clean and proud of their property and very welcoming to guests. Breakfast was included in the price but as I was leaving at 7am I thought I’d miss out. But no. They opened the kitchen at 6 am for those of us catching the ferry. Breakfast was delicious and very generous. Thank you Paul and Mark.

Absolutely loved The Grand - old world charm lovingly restored and furnished beautifully, sympathetic to the era. The hosts are warm, friendly, very hospitable and informative. We had a great sleep because the bed was so comfortable. The breakfast is exceptional - I'm sorry we will miss the next High Tea. We don't usually B&B, but will more often now, Thank you Paul and Brenden, you are excellent hosts! I want to come back.

This place is amazing. Our room had 16 foot ceilings and a four poster bed. A true B & B, a cooked breakfast was included in the price. And the owners couldn’t have been more helpful, including booking us a table at a nearby pub when the ferry from Geelong was running late.

Really enjoyed our stay. Our hosts (Paul and Brendan) provided helpful travel advice, took time to accommodate our needs, printed our travel documents, made our dinner reservations, made & served a wonderful breakfast and are truly nice people. We would definitely stay again. Oh and best coffee we’ve had in Australia !

Staying at The Grand is like stepping into a different world. The furnishings, antiques and attention to detail make you feel like you just don't want to be anywhere else. But the best part was the graciousness of hosts Paul and Brenden. Absolute gentlemen who made me feel at home in those sumptuous surroundings. Paul was so helpful with directions before I arrived, and Brenden cooked up a wonderful breakfast which was just what I needed before boarding the Spirit back to Geelong. Staying at The Grand is like stepping into a different world. The furnishings, antiques and attention to detail make you feel like you just don't want to be anywhere else. But the best part was the graciousness of hosts Paul and Brenden. Absolute gentlemen who made me feel at home in those sumptuous surroundings. Paul was so helpful with directions before I arrived, and Brenden cooked up a wonderful breakfast which was just what I needed before boarding the Spirit back to Geelong. I have attached a photo of The Grand that I took just before setting sail. This is the place to stay in Devonport!

Well what a great start to our little Tasmanian holiday greeted by Paul who was so friendly and explained the history of this amazing house due to my jaw dropping over the beautiful condition of this little old gem totally renovated by him and his partner Brenden, after been shown through to our rooms Paul gave us some suggestions for dinner in Devonport and then booked us in to a beautiful restaurant with some amazing food only minutes away. We explained to Paul and Brenden that we may have to miss our first breakfast due to an early start the next morning and then Brenden insisted he would start breakfast early to make sure we travelled with a full belly its little things like this that really made our stay. The breakfast is just top class like everything in this beautiful piece of Devonport our only complaint was that we will be comparing The Grand on Macfie with other places we stay and we did and they rate the best by far.....do yourself a favour and be spoilt by two friendly owners Paul and Brenden and I would love to see some ongoing renovation photos after you complete your high tea room thanks again my friends we will be back.

Hosts Paul and Brenden were a delight! Staying at The Grand is like taking a step back in time. The facilities are superbly renovated and the old charm of early Australia has been retained throughout the property. The rooms are extremely comfortable with all the modern amenities and the breakfast cooked by our hosts was absolutely delicious. The property is conveniently located a short walk into town where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. I highly recommend The Grand on Macfie to anyone stopping in Devonport. You will not be disappointed!

A beautiful double storey property in Devonport, amazingly and lovingly renovated and restored by the owners, with tastefull, elegant heritage furnishings throughout. Our room had an incredible sea view overlooking the terminal where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. Stunning! The owners have also created beautiful sitting rooms where guests can sit with a quiet beverage. The room had a 4 poster bed, the furnishings were beautiful and the whole experience exuded comfort, elegance and style. Highly recommended.

This was the last night of our 3 week Tasmanian road trip before heading off on the morning ferry. We wished we'd been able to stay longer at The Grand on Macfie because the hotel is simply beautiful with its superb period furnishings and decor, its luxe comforts and all because of the obvious dedication and love of the owners. We stated in the Queen Suite and it was comfort plus plus plus. The very high bed was so comfy that it was hard to leave in the morning. The cooked to order breakfast and coffee in the dining room was delicious. Many thoughtful touches made this special hotel even more memorable including complimentary shortbreads which were appreciated with coffee on the ferry home. Next time we come to Tasmania The Grand will be our first stop and we'll stay longer to soak up more of the beauty of its grounds and gorgeous gardens, location with views and rooms. A stunning achievement which can be enjoyed now by many travellers and locals, and well priced. They also offer a High Tea which I'm sure would be a highlight. Congratulations to the owners.

Beautiful heritage property with large rooms and communal spaces. The included breakfast was delicious and owner/managers were friendly and went above and beyond to share travel tips and accommodate our needs (including waiting for us to arrive off the Spirit of Tas to check in). This place is amazing. Our room had 16 foot ceilings and a four poster bed. A true B & B, a cooked breakfast was included in the price. And the owners couldn’t have been more helpful, including booking us a table at a nearby pub when the ferry from Geelong was running late.

Grand it certainly is, with enormous style and character. Comfy beds, beautiful rooms and decor, charming hosts, delicious breakfast served on gold rimmed china - what's not to love? If you are there on a Sunday afternoon, ask about their cream teas in advance - the clotted cream is home made!

This boutique hotel is unique and beautiful, a real treat, but one thing put me off this last visit - lots of very loud hacking coughing coming from the kitchen as my breakfast was being prepared. Given the prevalence of horrible colds and flu's right now, let alone Covid, I don't think someone with a cough out to be preparing food. .

Really enjoyed our stay. Our hosts (Paul and Brendan) provided helpful travel advice, took time to accommodate our needs, printed our travel documents, made our dinner reservations, made & served a wonderful breakfast and are truly nice people. We would definitely stay again. Oh and best coffee we’ve had in Australia !

This was a historic stay. We loved the tiny details and felt like we had stepped back in time to a Jane Austen novel. Highly recommend for people who love old mansions. I taught my daughters about encyclopaedias - the google of yore - and we also loved watching the spirit of Tasmania berth.

Breakfast was superbly cooked. The hosts were absolute delight, and so kind. Would highly recommend. As the bedroom is gorgeous, The furniture and the decorations so to speak were very high quality and beautiful.
