Even though we could only stay for a night we really did enjoy it! The area was cozy and very clean! I went down to explore the docks. The docks are in need of repairs or replacement. But i also understand getting to that can be difficult and pricey. I hope they can redo them soon! Otherwise we certainly would LOVE to come again. Maybe bring the kids when they are older also.

I loved the location and it was quiet and close to the river! Parking was a little cramped and our coffee pot was broken. Other than that it was very nice!

Was ok - stayed 2 nights but no breakfast/food despite a restaurant on the property. Had to walk down cement stairs to get to room. Could not enjoy view or open windows due to heavy smokers being outside quite frequently. There are talks about this property being torn down this fall.

I stayed in a motel room overlooking the lake prior to a trip into the Boundary Waters. A little nervous at the plain and aging exterior, I was pleasantly surprised with the renovated and very comfortable room. This property has a friendly, traditional resort vibe, with cabins, camper parking and the motel. The bar was still open on a rainy evening and they served my favorite Castle Danger on tap. I would love to visit this resort again!

The location is great, the views of the lake and free access to the dock was fantastic. The staff was very nice and dealt with the few issues we did run into quickly. The cabins have so much potential, but in their current state have rustic church camp vibes. The bathroom was comically ugly. I’d stay here again though. The price was fair and the location and staff were great. But I hope they remodel and make this place the gem I know it could be

they advertise Internet, but there is no Internet in the rooms. They should clearly state that. They could easily update the furniture and carpeting in the rooms. Also the steps leading down to the bottom level of the building needs to be replaced for safety reasons.

Beautiful place right on Garden Lake with access to the Boundary Waters! The motel had comfortable beds and a basic kitchen. My son and I borrowed a canoe for the day and had a beautiful, long paddle to BWCA. We also visited the Wolf Center, hiked, and had a great tour of the Poineer Mine. A very peaceful spot to come home to on our vacation— we hope to return!

There was no hand soap in bathroom or ANY soap for that matter. It was very dusty and odorous. Their website claims amenities that are either non-existent or not working. There is no sauna, no restaurant, no homemade pizzas. It was so bad we did not stay our second night even though we paid for it. My husband is such a grace giving man, he asked me not to say anything to the attendant and simply thank her. So we did. Please update website. This was super disappointing and it could all be remedied. What awesome potential and prime location. I hope my feedback is used constructively.

We enjoyed the fire pit a lot. The room was satisfactory, missed having a tv, a little bit. The ceiling tile in the bathroom kept falling down. We would probably stay here again, though. Its a beautiful spot and close to Ely.

Loved the location by the lake, outside views were lovely. Inside of cabin was very neat, clean and comfortable. Outside of cabin was rustic and showed a lot of weather wear but did not affect the inside ambiance.

Unfortunately the property quality was not what was presented in the booking. The room had visible stains on the floor, no AC, very dated (rusty and broken) appliances. The couch had a piece of plywood to give it stability to sit on. Not that it’s necessary, but disclose it, there was no TV in the room either. We stayed on a rainy weekend and left the property early. Very uncomfortable.

Our sheets were wet/ very damp on the first night and we didn’t discover until it was too late and office closed. Told them in the morning. She said they would contact housekeeping. Went back hours later and the room/bed was not changed. Then we went back to the office and they handed us a bag of sheets to change ourselves. No apologies or oops, sorry that happened. Put us off. Bathroom door wouldn’t close. No crossbar in the closet to hang clothes. Has potential but could have been better. Cute fridge and microwave though!

Outside of some newer carpet, it didn't look like the place had been updated since the 1960's. NO TV or WIIFI. Lumpy old beds (probably original mattress), Old uncomfortable chairs and sofa/sleeper bed, Worst night of sleep I've had in a long time.

The check in person Deb was not a friendly person. Other staff were real friendly. The room was clean, beds comfortable. We booked our stay on line with Hotels.com, with 3 nights in King bed and one night in double bed. When we arrived we ended up with 3 nights in double bed. Deb said it didn’t show the kind of rooms booked through Hotels.com, and the internet doesn’t work so well in that area so I couldn’t pull up my information. The 4th night we got a king room.. the view was pretty of the lake and it was an awesome room. We should have had this for 3 nights not one!! The cleaning staff do an awesome job!!

The view of the lake from my room was beautiful and peaceful. I loved sitting on the deck reading a book and looking over the lake. Very quiet place. Room was very nice and bed was comfortable.

I was reserving a cabin not a motel room. When I made my reservation they sent me a picture of the cabin I reserved. When I got there they said oh no they only have a room in the motel. I said that was not what I reserved! I strongly believed that they bumped us to the motel room for a better reservation. That ticked me off. We heard the people upstairs all 3 nights!

Great place to stay close to town. Staff was very friendly and nice view of the lake.

Older gal who checked us in was rude and did not explain where our cabin was, check out instructions, or anything. Location of the resort was amazing. Also the terrain to get to our room was not maintained well and was very tricky and hard to get to get luggage to and from the car to the room.

Our sheets were wet/ very damp on the first night and we didn’t discover until it was too late and office closed. Told them in the morning. She said they would contact housekeeping. Went back hours later and the room/bed was not changed. Then we went back to the office and they handed us a bag of sheets to change ourselves. No apologies or oops, sorry that happened. Put us off. Bathroom door wouldn’t close. No crossbar in the closet to hang clothes. Has potential but could have been better. Cute fridge and microwave though!

Loved the location by the lake, outside views were lovely. Inside of cabin was very neat, clean and comfortable. Outside of cabin was rustic and showed a lot of weather wear but did not affect the inside ambiance.

I stayed in a motel room overlooking the lake prior to a trip into the Boundary Waters. A little nervous at the plain and aging exterior, I was pleasantly surprised with the renovated and very comfortable room. This property has a friendly, traditional resort vibe, with cabins, camper parking and the motel. The bar was still open on a rainy evening and they served my favorite Castle Danger on tap. I would love to visit this resort again!

Beautiful place right on Garden Lake with access to the Boundary Waters! The motel had comfortable beds and a basic kitchen. My son and I borrowed a canoe for the day and had a beautiful, long paddle to BWCA. We also visited the Wolf Center, hiked, and had a great tour of the Poineer Mine. A very peaceful spot to come home to on our vacation— we hope to return!

The place was nice. Easy check in. We stayed in the motel part. Room was nice and the deck overlooking the lake was very good. Way went down to the bar and had diner and listened to the live music. It was a quick stay but we may be back with the kids.

Was ok - stayed 2 nights but no breakfast/food despite a restaurant on the property. Had to walk down cement stairs to get to room. Could not enjoy view or open windows due to heavy smokers being outside quite frequently. There are talks about this property being torn down this fall.

There was no hand soap in bathroom or ANY soap for that matter. It was very dusty and odorous. Their website claims amenities that are either non-existent or not working. There is no sauna, no restaurant, no homemade pizzas. It was so bad we did not stay our second night even though we paid for it. My husband is such a grace giving man, he asked me not to say anything to the attendant and simply thank her. So we did. Please update website. This was super disappointing and it could all be remedied. What awesome potential and prime location. I hope my feedback is used constructively.
