Hyatt Place Santa Cruz

Sraff was superb and attentive. Breakfast had some good options, nit just continental. Fitness center is 24 hours. Very clean. No bath tubs in the bathrooms.

Great place to stay with clean and spacious rooms. Love the gym and pool area. Breakfast is not bad with a lot of options. Only negative is the fee for parking. Also it’s not a great area to walk around after dark.

Very comfortable room and bed; very helpful staff; great breakfast. The only thing is, be aware there is ONLY valet parking, for an extra $18 per day (not counting tip for valet of course). No self parking.

The room is spacious and comfortable. The hot tub heater broke on our second night which was a real bummer since that was a feature that motivated our choice. The staff was super nice across the board. We didn't have time to use the gym but it was fairly nice beyond the major ceiling leak they were dealing with. A large bucket and towels were on the floor under it. Since we were there two days before Christmas, I imagine it was difficult to get repairs done quickly. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the breakfast is a really nice feature to offset the fact that there are no parking options beyond valet- unless you want to brave parking in the nearby neighborhood. We were woken up each morning by extremely noisy garbage trucks, so in the future, I might ask for an interior facing room rather than street. However, our view of the boardwalk and sunrise/sunsets was quite lovely. I could hear someone snoring during the night- not sure if it was someone on the other side of us or below. It wasn't outrageously loud, but noticeable when one is not sleeping deeply. Overall, I would definitely go back. The location was ideal to walk to town or the beach.

Loved the space. Breakfast was delicious Pool and hot tub were nice. Fireside marshmallow making was yummy (but beware you have to pay $30 for 1 hour… that felt steep… likely wouldn’t do that again… took away 1 star for that and the fact I bought my own materials because they ran out. Seemed like it would’ve been free for that reason). The shower was clogged but they fixed it right away. Driving distance to great food and the boardwalk. Great place for business or for families.

We were told in order to use the fireplace, we had to rent it!

Fun, family friendly hotel with nice sized rooms, good breakfast and central location to the boardwalk and downtown. Responsive, pleasant staff. My kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub, although they were too crowded for me to enjoy (both seemed a bit small for the number of people utilizing them) and the "bar" is more of a counter with beer and wine only. Overall, we all enjoyed the stay and would recommend and return. Be sure to bring plenty of cash to tip for the valet parking.

The breakfast is so delicious. My partner and I absolutely love staying here. Whenever we're in Santa Cruz, we always choose to stay here. The hot tub and pool are enjoyable. The valet workers are so friendly, especially Derek.

When me and my girlfriend stayed the night in the hotel room we woke up to having red spots on ours body's and we didn’t think nothing of it till a few days later when the the red dots grew into bigger pimples the doctors said they were bedbugs bites. Please do better in cleaning

Room was dark and musty and smelled of chlorine from the pool and musty smelling. Room had excessive noise from upstairs. Typical of Santa Cruz…. No good hotels

Flooding in bathroom from shower inside wall. Black mold behind peeling wallpaper. Asked for assistance from front desk, they seemed unaffected regarding the buzz word “black mold”. Offered me 5,000 points to their reward program that I didn’t belong to and refunded my parking.

We walked into our hotel room, and the sink was full of would appear to be diarrhea. We immediately after smelling it, went downstairs and told the front desk in the upgraded our room to the nicest room in the hotel. Everything was great. The service was great, but it was very noisy. Cars are racing up and down the street garbage truck emptied a huge dumpster behind our window at 5 o’clock in the morning I would’ve rather stayed down by the beach.

Everything was great except the sound proofing. One side you have to deal with passing traffic, the other side with screaming kids at the pool. I advise getting a room facing pool bc at least that closes @ 10pm.

Nice hotel but rooms were very dark. The staff was fabulous thought which made my stay nice.

Great breakfast, nice pool area, spacious room, friendly valet. Sofa bed was a bit uncomfortable and it was loud in the morning with doors constantly banging shut as we were near the staff service corridor.

Its was good but in 2025 didn’t expect a hyatt without smart tv . They have only direct tv No Netflix No hulu

I was really surprised at how good value this place was. My only complaint is that there was a lot of road noise (we had a room on the third floor, at the side). No vending machines but a 2 minute walk will get you to 7-11 or Chevron for snacks. Would absolutely stay here again.

Normally you would have to pay suite prices, but their regular King room, which included a sitting area with fold out couch and lots of floor space. Very clean and comfortable. The included breakfast was typical hotel fare, but a wide variety of options, and they seemed to try harder in presentation. Being a 10 minute walk from downtown Santa Cruz was very convenient. Would definitely stay here again.

I picked this hotel due to the short car ride to Pasatiempo Golf course (about 10-15 min). My initial room was window overlooking to swimming pool which extremely loud as there were many people in pool area so I asked front desk for a new room and they were nice enough to accommodate and change room facing parking lot which was much more quiet. The room I had was quite spacious and it was a typical Hyatt place hotel room. Beds were comfortable enough and there was shampoo and conditioner and soap bar but no body lotion. The valet for parking cost more than expected but it was fine, valet guys were nice and cars came out pretty fast. Our room came with free breakfast which is basic continental breakfast food. There is a great Chinese restaurant next to hotel and we ate there twice. There is a 7-11 store across street where we bought some stuff. If you need groceries, there is a Whole Foods store which was 5 minute drive. One complaint I would say is that the AC unit was very loud when it auto turned on, it was like a rocket engine turning on so it woke me up during the night each time the AC turned on. Overall a good stay for 3 nights.

Everything from the friendly valet greeting to the time we left was awesome !!! Highly recommend staying here if your planning a trip to santa cruz .. location was right in the middle of all the activities we had planned ...

When checking in, the person at the front desk was very rude.

Easy valet parking

Front desk gave me the wrong room number and when I got to the room they gave me I scared the lady who was in the room half to death. They gave me a bottle of wine instead of discounting my room to make up for it which I wasn’t too happy about.

Very disappointed with the check-in. We got there a little bit early for our check-in and of course we were told our room was not going to be ready until 3 PM. They were supposed to call us and let us know. We called at 3 o’clock and they said the room was not cleaned yet, to wait another half an hour. We contact the office again, but it was not ready yet. We never got a phone call. We ended up doing our activities around the area and at 11 PM our room was given. Nobody knew what happened, The food is not good at all, we got stomachache from it. Front desk is not friendly at all.

AVOID!! I reserved two rooms, checked in, got keys to 1 room, and awaited our friends we were meeting for the second room. When they arrived, they said we only had 1 room. I said we just checked in with two rooms and showed them my hotels.com reservation. After 30 minutes of discussion, they forced our friends to book a new room. The next day, they charged us a "no show" for the room that they wouldn't let our friends into, plus charged my friends. This is completely unacceptable and basically amounts to fraud. They said we would have to talk to hotels.com and refused to offer us any type of refund. Hotels.com to their credit called them, and supposedly within TWO MONTHS we can expect a refund from the hotel. So now I need to follow up with the hotel and check for refunds, etc. What a pain. This completely soured our stay. All this over their mistake. This is completely unacceptable. I spoke to several staff members who could have fixed this on the spot by refunding my friends, and they refused. Avoid this hotel.

Great staff, clean and super nice!

I have stayed at various properties in Santa Cruz, but I always come back to the Hyatt. The quality, value, and location are outstanding. The staff are helpful and friendly. I appreciate having the breakfast buffet included in the price. The valets take good care of my car and are eager to help with luggage. I couldn’t ask for more.

Valets were the nicest people there and they’re not even employees. Kinda telling. Front desk were nice enough, but not outstanding. Our room got cleaned once in the 5 days we were there. I guess it was poor timing, but we were out of the room for long stretches (like 9-3) each day. They brought us stiff after we asked 3x and I made the bed myself because housekeeping goes home at 5. Room was great. Pool was great. Location was great.

We enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Place very much. Great breakfast bar! The hotel is comfortable and attractive. A walk to the beach is utterly doable, boardwalk is maybe six or seven blocks away. Would definitely stay here again. Hyatt Place is located in an older downtown neighborhood, Not great, but definitely not scary!

This is in an excellent location for walking to downtown and not far from the boardwalk, both assuming you like to walk. You would not need your car. Unfortunately the sound proofing is not great in this hotel. Also beware that the valet parking is mandatory and is $20/night. The breakfast is the usual industrial affair typical of chains.

Great location and value in the middle of town. Walked to downtown and beach/boardwalk. I don’t usually use valet parking but it is the only option at the hotel and it was quick and easy to access our car.

I like this as a place to stay in Santa Cruz. It”’s central and easy to drive to stuff. You can walk to the beach/pier but it’s not that close. The rooms are clean, pool is nice, staff good. It’s $19 to park and the breakfast is not high- quality.

It was ok. Valet and hotel staff were polite and professional. Disappointed that the Restaurant and Bar were more like grab and go. No wait staff, just the first desk person who you can order beer or wine and like 3 items of food. Also, no room service. The turkey pesto sandwich I ordered was turkey lunch meat and didn't taste good but I was hungry and paid $15 so I ate it. Bad mistake. I had food poisoning that night. I told the front desk the next morning and they said they would refund my cost for the sandwich but they didn't. I was reluctant to try the buffet breakfast in the morning but it was actually ok . However there was no espresso bar as mentioned on the website and the staff said it has never worked! I paid $35 to rent a fire pit and roast s'mores for 1 hour with my nephew. The fire pit area was separate from the pool and the gate was broken and you can't get back to the pool. The first night in our room the bathtub filled with water when taking a shower and the air conditioner was noisy and could hear lots of people above us. The maintenance staff came to unplug the tub when we called. The convenience of location was nice. I have stayed in several Hyatts and this was a bit disappointing.

Stay was pleasant for the most part. However, the only thing which made me mad was that breakfast was not fresh at all. I expected more out of Hyatt and thought it was above a motel quality food

Our room was huge and very clean and updated. The breakfast was the best complimentary breakfast I’ve had at a hotel.

The customer service was great, friendly, professional staff. They were very responsive with a request regarding my room. I liked my room, it was quiet and spacious. Breakfast was so-so though, with fruit compote served fully frozen, and coffee running out frequently.

Desk and valet service have been excellent, breakfast was also excellent. Very fresh and many choices for food and drink.

I was happy with the property and staff, but didn't like that I was forced to pay $19 for valet parking and the breakfast buffet had some inedible items (green bananas and rock-hard frozen berries) that suggested poor quality control.

While the property itself was very clean, the experience was subpar for Hyatt’s reputation. I’ll try to be as fair and balanced as possible - Valet attendants were extremely kind and even helped with some local hot spot suggestions. The check-in staff were very welcoming and kind as well. The facility was clean and modern. Our room was very clean and taken care of. Here’s the negatives - our extra blanket in our room was still wet. We let the cleaning people know and they were very apologetic and provided a fresh, clean blanket right away. Secondly, there is no room service and when I called to order food from the in-house restaurant, I thought that room service was provided but the lady on the phone snapped back annoyingly “We don’t do room service here”. I had to walk down to the front desk to pick up food from their restaurant. The restaurant food - worst ever. And that’s putting it nicely. Ordered wings, 2 chicken sandwiches and a double patty burger. The wings were the only shining part of the meal. The burger was extremely overcooked and hardly edible, and I’m extremely lenient when it comes to hotel food (I know timing is hard). Sanwiches looked like they were store bought, unwrapped and served. Very dry. Oh, and it was suppose to take 25min for food - it took 45 min with a reminder call from me to the front. Maybe they forgot. Continental breakfast was unimpressive but at least you get some options (eggs, potatoes, sausage, French toast). Not the Hyatt standard.

Pleasant, helpful staff. Nice location. Clean, quiet and safe. However, the eggs on the breakfast buffet are in cubes and gross. The bacon pan and condiments were empty. If the service is advertised as open until 9:30 am then the food should be available until 9:30.
