Beacon Inn 1750

Great place to stay but they need to let you know that there is no elevator. I'm to old to climb 3 floors every time I come and go.

Only after checking in to a third or fourth floor room and finding no elevator and going back thru Hotels.com listing a scrolling down thru the Inn’s description, did I find the comment of NO ELEVATOR.

The associate at the front desk moved are car and didn’t tell us where he put it. When we found it we were blocked in by another car when trying to leave after checking out. He put the car in a tiny garage and the entire passenger side of the car was scratched and the door lock no longer works. This is unacceptable.

Fourth floor no elevator. Parking cost extra. No street parking.

I stayed at the Beacon Inn 1750 in Brookline, Massachusetts, and was honestly very disappointed, especially given the price. The room was extremely expensive for what it offered. There was no air conditioning, which made the stay quite uncomfortable. I had to sleep with the windows open just to get a bit of fresh air, but the noise from the cars and the train made it very hard to sleep. The beds were also very noisy — they creaked excessively with even the slightest movement, which made it difficult to rest. On top of that, the bathroom door didn’t close properly — a basic issue that should be addressed in any hotel. Throughout my entire stay, there was no housekeeping service: no one came to clean the room, change towels, or tidy up. I wouldn’t stay here again and wouldn’t recommend it. For that price, there are much better options in the area.

Location was really nice because the green line is just in 2 min. Also there is a market close. The only problem was about the heater, which is central, not possible to control the temperature and for the room we stayed was tooooo hot.

This is a barely passable facility. The local network wasn't working and when it was brought back up, there was intermittent access to the internet for about 2 hours; my room door was almost impossible to open, I had to forcibly pull up on the handle to get it unstuck each time I opened it; the shower stall was incredibly tiny, with a fixed showerhead so it was difficult to get water over anything lower than my head and shoulders; the main "closet" was full of a jumbled mess of blankets and other ?????; the bed springs squeaked each time I moved; there was no phone in the room to call anyone, so when I was having problems with the network and the internet, I had to run back and forth down the stairs from the third floor to the "lobby" desk to talk to the one employee there; and the entire place has a rundown look that could use a massive effort just to make it look like it is a livable, comfortable inn. And one little detail that I personally found annoying: no tissues anywhere!

This place is a joke. They have 'parking' out back with six spots that you have to reserve and pay for ahead of time, but you'll return to the inn from being out and there will be no spots. You call their 'emergency number' supposedly to have someone help, and no one calls you back. It's dirty, and you have to walk through a sketchy tunnel with rats (yes, I saw rats) around the trash bins to get to the parking area. 'Breakfast' is stale croissants and muffins, not enough for all guests. They don't care about guests whatsoever.

The hotel itself is unique and attractive. It's in a nice neighborhood with good restaurants nearby. It could use a little sprucing up, but it's clean and comfortable. Parking was a real issue that needs a solution. There were no reserved spots available when I booked. I asked if there was street parking and was told "yes, but I'm not sure what the rules are". When I got there, was told there is no overnight street parking, I should go to a garage. OK. But the closest garages are a mile or more away. No list of suggested garages. The clerk did his best, but management needs to address this. We eventually parked at Brookline Place Parking and walked back. Thankfully it was a nice day. There is no excuse for not having a back-up plan for when reserved parking isn't available.

Confirmation states you must call ahead to book parking which I did and was told I was all set. Upon arrival I was informed parking was full and there was overnight parking a mile away. Sink drain doesn’t work. Pulled back the top sheet to discover dirty linens. No onsite staff after hours and we got to listen to a yelling fight in a nearby room. Too bad. It could be a neat place, but not under current ownership/management. Think twice before booking.

This hotel should be avoided. It was dirty, had signs of previous un-repaired water damage on the walls, had holes in the wood floor and in the ceiling. We found signs of what appeared to be mouse droppings.

The room and bathroom seemed fairly clean, the beddings didn’t. Sheets and pillowcases seemed like they were not changed after the last customer. If they were actually changed then they need to be tossed. If stains don’t come out in the wash- toss it.

It was not a good experience, very dirty. I was there for five nights and the room was cleaned only once and that is because I asked to have it cleaned.

Unclean room cost more

Several issues with the Inn. The room was dirty. There were mouse poison bate stations in the room and I saw one mouse running around the room. I made sure that my bags were closed to prevent a stowaway. Under the beds and under the armoire were not cleaned in quite some time. The air conditioner vent was filthy as was the bathroom vent. Caked with dust. The AC unit was black inside the vents and thus there are concerns of mold. I have pictures. I checked in at 3PM, which was fine. Later that night when I was out, someone from the Inn tried to call me several times and left no message. When I returned to the inn around 11pm, there was a note on the door with my last name in large letters (I have a privacy issue with that) pointing to an envelope in the mailbox that had a 2nd key to my room and papers in it for me to fill out. Mind you, I had filled out all these papers when I checked in at 3PM earlier that day, yet someone was not aware of that and believed I had not checked in. I called about this the next morning, left a voice mail and no one ever returned my call. My concerns with that are privacy and security. Anyone on the street could walk up, grab a key to enter the building and the room to rob, attack or assault the guests. Too bad as it could be a quaint place to stay in a quiet part of Brookline with easy access to the T, but it feels like the owners/management are doing below the bare minimum.

The property is in a fantastic location close to the T that runs into Boston. Safe quiet and beautiful area. The property is old. Every thing there is old and historic. Stayed there 3 nights and they never made our bed, gave us clean towels or cleaned anything. Even after we asked it wasn’t done. That annoyed me for the price we paid to be there. I would definitely stay in Brookline again just maybe not here. It was clean in the beginning and the AC worked good in super hot and humid conditions so there was that.

It was overall ok, however there were few issues. The first day the cleaning staff left our room open, I assume they forgot, but our belongings were left exposed, not nice. The second day they didn’t make up the room, maybe we woke up too late and the cleaning staff had already left (we left the room around 10:45), they changed the towels though. The mattresses were old and deformed, quite uncomfortable.

The location is excellent. However, the Inn itself has tons of wear and tear, and the rooms have not been cleaned in a very long time; there was so much dust and dirt gathered in corners, around furniture, under the beds, in bureau drawers, etc. My first night I had to switch rooms because the sheets were dirty (gunk stuck to them, hair and crumbs between them). The staff was very responsive to my issues, even at late hours, but unfortunately the cleanliness and condition of the space was too low for me to recommend or stay again.

The location is great (close to BC). Upon late arrival we found the duvet and the pillows did not have covers. Not so hygienic.

There is nothing we would recommend about this property. The room was dirty. Crumbs on the mantle and table, the bathroom had “splatter” all over the sink and medicine cabinet along with balls of hair on the floor and in the mats. The bathtub still had dirt from the previous user on the bottom of it as well as hair coming out of the drain. The linens all had a yellow stain or two on them. The air conditioner would only do one temperature. Parking is quite sketchy. We were very disappointed.

Our stay was fine- but the rooms could really use some updates. Everything just looks a little rough-around-the edges. Clean and comfortable enough. But there seems to be no care put into the decor… It was also strange that several mattresses were being removed from the rooms while we were there. It seems like this is what you get for under $200. Ultimately, it was fine, but not nice enough to ever want to return.

It was literally such a cute environment, the bed was comfortable as heck. Room was small but it's okay it was just me and all I needed.

Beacon 1750 is a "you get what you pay for" boutique hotel. Even modest hotels near the city center cost at least $300/night, so for $200/night this property met my expectations. First, it's about 2 miles (15 minutes on the trolley) west of the metro/tourist zone in a residential neighborhood. Second, it's rough around the edges but functional. The negatives: the bathroom was tiny, the towels thin, there were no outlets near the beds and the room was clean enough but not immaculate. The positives: the hotel feels very safe, the beds were comfortable and it was very easy transporting to and from "the city".

This place is steps away from the T (public transportation), in a very nice neighborhood, walking distance from a grocery store, restaurants and pubs. Bed was comfortable. Our room was in the 4th floor, no elevator. For us, that was ok since we count our steps and stairs, but it is something that you should know. Also, ceiling in our room was low, so my 6'2" husband had to duck to avoid hitting his head with the doorframes. Shower was very good. A/C was perfect. Housekeeping was great, front desk was ok.

Like staying in a historic home. The rooms are well decorated and appointed; ours was spacious and clean. Breakfast in the lobby was simple but good. Check in and out were easy. Good location on a quiet part of Beacon St.!

The location is great, right on the T, Green Line, with easy access to the medical district, Fenway, and nice restaurants/cafés within walking distance. The price is a good value for Brookline. The front desk attendant was friendly. The problem is this old girl has seen better days. Check in is mashed up with the 'breakfast' service area, just inside the front door. The rooms are in rough shape, and the bathroom was in bad shape. The brand new television hung on the wall didn't work. No night tables by the bed and only two outlets in the room. The window air conditioner was taped into the window. Hotel Beacon Inn 1750 needs a glow up in the worst way but has a few good attributes most specifically location and walkability.

Very historic building nestled in Brookline. Building is warm. But luckily the room we were in had sufficient AC. The tv was broken my biggest complaint. But very homey would stay again

The hotel is fairly cheap, and unfortunately the quality of the room aligns with the price. The large bed was put up against an old fireplace in the room with no backboard, so above your head is a dusty cave all night. The outlets were all loose, making it less convenient to charge my devices. A little bit of effort would go a long way here. The room I had was right behind reception and only had a small doorknob lock, I didn't feel very safe without a deadbolt or other stopper. In addition, my location was very noisy as guests checked in the rest of the day (I could hear each one)

The TV didn't work, we asked the staff which she responded but didn't fixed the problem. The room have only one bed which when reserved said two beds.

Where to begin……I flew to Boston with my daughter to get her settled into a place nearby the hotel as she was attending BU in the fall. I was there for 6 days total and the first few days wasn’t bad until finding out a few items purchased at the BU campus store were stolen!! I told a young man named James what happened and he was so nonchalant about the matter stating he didn’t think it could be his housekeeper! The male housekeeper was the only person in our room!! Who else could it be other than staff at that point. I received no apologies, just said he would relay this to the manager. I asked him for a managers name and he refused to give me this info!! What kind of Mickey Mouse running hotel is this?! Words cannot express my anger and frustration. I had to call Expedia and take it up with them instead. I regret ever staying at that ridiculous hotel. I would not recommend this place to anyone especially if you don’t want your belongings missing!!

Staff was friendly and helpful when they were there , but no one was around when there were no bowls or water during breakfast hours. Also no staff at night when we realized there was only one bath towel for two people. The property is very outdated.

Wonderfully friendly, courteous, and very helpful. A delight! Plenty of restaurants as well.

Joe was the rudest and most unhelpful staff member, not willing to do anything. He brings the whole establishment down with his attitude. He would not even explain where to park the car despite pre billing parking. Useless.

The Hotel itself is quaint and clean, set up in an old style, Private type home setting, with very large rooms, clean, and within walking distance (blocks away) from restaurants and an actual supermarket in case one doesn't want to spend loads of money to eat every day/night. But count on NONE of the usual front desk service one may be accustomed to. My stay was for 3 full nights, and it took 15 minutes of standing in the reception area "puzzled" before a person actually appeared and checked me in when I first arrived. And I never saw that person (or any front desk/reception person) ever again during my stay. There was no one available to clean the room each day if I wanted it (not even to remove daily trash), nor was there anyone available to replace towels daily. Fortunately the room had enough for my short stay. was very strange. Quaint, but strange. If thats not an issue for you, this is your Hotel.

Good location.

The Beacon inn is a cool old brownstone house. Very comfortable and I could walk to lunch and dinner. I made the mistake of renting a car at the airport. The T Train stop is just outside the front door. I would stay here again.

Great location on Beacon steps from both C and D lines of the MBTA. A lot of self service but front desk is only a phone call away. College student manned the desk (very nice) but we were on our own after hours. Old building so don’t expect a luxury hotel. We spent 3 days so we were little disappointed that heat appeared to be turned way down (off.) during the day. We will stay again because of the location and price.

Very convenient when visiting our family in the Boston area. Right on the T. Clean and fun to stay in such an historic building.

We were there literally ten hours, but it was a great place to stay. Our train was stuck on the track for hours, so we missed out on our evening in Boston before a dr appt. We will be coming back to Boston, and will definitely stay here again. It is clean and comfortable, and access to transportation is great. It is a great place to stay and a great value too.

Great place to stay when visiting our daughter in Allston. Room was great: plenty of room, two comfortable beds. nice to have a muffin in the morning. VERY convenient to the C line of the Green Line.

Great location. Clean room. Breakfast very limited and nowhere to sit, but I didn’t stay there for the breakfast. Would certainly stay there again.

Delicious morning muffins. Late night snacks. Clean unique rooms. Quiet location. 60 second walk to a train stop. Restaurants and shops a plenty. Happy customer.

Property is really clean. Plenty of hot water and the continental breakfast was a surprise with plenty of choices. It was cold while I was unseasonably cold while I was there. They did turn on the heat Friday night but shut it off on Saturday and it was cold in the room Sunday night and the front desk could not turn it on. They need to improve that service.

Room was ok , but needs updating : bathroom vanity was old and worn , could provide more pillows . Bed was uncomfortable too. If you can’t walk up stairs don’t stay here as our room was on the third floor . Could have provided water in the room too and cups ( there was a water dispenser in lobby area but whose going to walk down 3 flights at night when they have to take medication ? The breakfast was a j Keurig with boxes of cereal some Costco muffins and croissants. No place to eat either . If you’re looking for an inexpensive place to stay for one night in Brookline this is it . It was close to lots of restaurants within walking distance so that was good . Don’t expect a quaint B&B experience : this is not it

It was not good as all. There was no water, breakfast was mostly unavailable. Anything we asked the response was "unfortunately we are out of it".

I hate to leave a poor review for a bed and breakfast but would like to help others avoid a bad experience and maybe this will be helpful feedback for the owners. We were put in a room right off the small lobby. We could hear everything. It felt like the desk clerk and other patrons were in the room with us. Additionally there was no individual heater in the room and the temperature was set to 65 degrees in the lobby and it was very cold. There was also a hole in the window letting in cold air. The breakfast was very sparse and depressing, mostly sugary cereals in kid sized boxes. The lobby is very run down. The whole experience was very depressing.

This was the worst experience I've ever had. The B&B is in bad condition. I checked in after hours and the key to the building and my room was in a box that anyone passing by had access to! The front door knob was loose. Then next morning, I awoke to a staff member screaming at the top of his lungs! I was very unnerved to say the least. I communicated my distress and my concerns but he was still on site the next day. The breakfast was a joke! A Keurig machine that you had to fill with water yourself! It included a few muffins and croissants and that was about it. RENTERS BEWARE!

Amenities were common for a guest house. Coffee and water were available 24/7 and a complimentary continental breakfast is available in the morning. Off-street parking is available for $33. It was a comfortable stay in an old historic building that is close to everything. It was a perfect spot to stay for a night when moving my daughter into her apartment for college.
