Stayed 1 night

This was my fourth time staying at Publishing House, and I hope to return again soon (that is, when it isn't booked solid)! I love it at Publishing House: an ideal location, quiet, comfortable, and with the best possible breakfasts in a beautiful common area. My favorite place to stay in Chicago, really. The staff is also very friendly, and rooms are so beautifully appointed. Thank you, Publishing House!

The B&B is a really nice establishment in a lot of ways. Beautiful, spacious rooms and common areas, great and friendly service in the adjacent bar. It is also located in a great neighborhood with plenty of amenities close by. Did not partake in the breakfast. Unfortunately, the main reason for my booking a stay there was the description of soundproofed rooms which couldn't be further from the truth. There was noise coming from all angles; banging from upstairs and next door, doors slamming from adjacent rooms, conversations heard through the walls, gurgling water from the over the bed heating unit and constant beeping and delivery drivers outside the window. Due to this, we never got a decent nights sleep during our stay. Now this description was from Hotels.com, but if it is not accurate, then the establishment should review and correct it. In addition, all communication with the staff can only be done via call or text. Neither of these methods ever produced a response. After an unanswered email, voice message and face to face request with one of the staff, requesting a late checkout to support a late train home, I was still left with no response. When I finally was able to speak with the owner, she reluctantly only let us stay an extra 30 minutes, claiming that they were quite busy. While we were allowed to leave our luggage and wait in the common area, I realized that "quite busy" meant taking down Christmas decorations in an unoccupied bed & breakfast. Pretty lame.

The Publishing House was easily one of our favorite stays in Chicago. The rooms and common areas are super comfortable, tastefully decorated and have a unique charm. We appreciate the one-of-a-kind feeling and personal touches. Breakfast was lovely, all the staff were thoughtful and kind. We look forward to returning.
