City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront

Easy to find with ample car parking. Reception staff very friendly and gave us an early check in. Room was comfortable and quiet. Great place for a weekend in Cape Town.

At the moment I cannot recommend this place. It is undergoing major renovations so the entire property is surrounded by scaffolding with some industrial outside curtains to try to keep the dust down. There is no restaurant, no bar, no lobby. All you get is an ok room and a narrow walkway into the property that stinks of smoke because that is where all the smokers can congregate. There are many nice hotels in Cape Town and I moved to one after cutting my booked stay at the City Lodge short.

This may be slightly unfair because we were warned, but serious construction was underway when we were there. Lots of construction material outside, and constant work ongoing inside. The gym, bar, and restaurant were unavailable as they were being rebuilt. The noise and dirt did not reach our room, but the work meant that there was a small temporary "reception" area with literally one chair available to wait. The staff did the best they could under the circumstances. We stayed 4 nights, and the construction was starting to wind down when we left (4 days ago), so your stay may be much different if everything is completed. Be sure to check before reserving. On the positive side, there is a restaurant within a few minutes' walk with good breakfast options, and another slightly farther with good lunch and dinner.

restaurant and leisure facilities closed. alternatives offered by management for eating in room and adjacent restaurant which I didn’t use. hotel across road had good and reasonably priced menu which I found more than acceptable, otherwise evening dining required long walk to V&A or Uber (reliable and cheap). rooms recently updated clean, bright and fresh with kettle and posh coffee maker. very efficient A/C, exceptionally helpful and cheerful staff coped well with cramped mini reception facility. enjoyed my stay but advertised relaxation facilities unavailable and there didn’t seem any chance of returning when work finishes (splash pool and garden) as area now very cramped.

Very well located hotel with a big carpark. Easy to access from the freeways and to walk to the V&A Waterfront. A very pleasant four day stay.

The hotel is currently under refurbishment and once done, will be fabulous! Location is perfect! So close to the V&A waterfront and a nice little walk. Staff are super friendly and helpful! Rooms - very modern and very clean! Bed on the firmer side. Unfortunately it wasn’t until after we had booked on a third party website that we found out about the building works and then upon arrival that some amenities were not available for use. The free parking is safe and secure and so convenient. We would absolutely book here again in the future and are excited to see what it is like once the renovations have been completed!

We stay here everytime when we are in Cape Town. Convenient and affordable. Swimming pool is too small though. They are upgrading the gym facility, which is good. Good value for money.

Nice hotel, quite near to waterfront and CBD. Undergoing renovations at the moment therefore no dining facilities. As with others city lodge hotels , that are careful with their toiletries.

Good option for anybody staying in Cape Town. Clean and tidy with good staff, the hotel is a nice little walk away from the V&A Waterfront. Ample parking on site.

The hotel is clean, walking distance from the V&A Waterfront. Friendly staff.

Small and simple room. Smaller tv and smaller bathroom. The toilet was leaking on floor. Shower was small. Very close to waterfront and amenities.

We came in on an early flight, got to the hotel around 11:30am, our room was not ready, they said return at 2pm which is the check in time. They stored our luggage and we walked the waterfront for a bit. Returned at 2:25pm, our room was still not ready, so we had to change our clothes in the public restroom for a tour we had booked. They took our luggage again, and we returned at 8pm to check in. The room was ready, but when we got there, we found hair in the sink and shower, so it had not been thoroughly cleaned. Before arrival, we were notified that construction would be starting in June. To our dismay, it was started when we got here. Loud construction, every day. The room they gave us was next to a utility room, so there was a short but loud buzzing sound every 5-6 seconds for our entire stay. Absolutely maddening after awhile, very difficult to sleep. Our shower door was off the hinge, so water from the shower soaked the floor. The desk staff mostly ignored us coming and going. No pleasantries at all. The breakfast buffet was good, the dining staff was very friendly. Housekeeping was the opposite. Not even unfriendly, but almost hostile when we returned to our room at 2pm in the afternoon and they were cleaning. She left the room and slammed the door without a word to us. The hotel had recommended a transport company for the airport transfers, and they overcharged us by 300 Rand! We advised them to not recommend that company again. Good location, that’s it.

We had a wonderful time staying here. The property was clean, in good condition, and felt safe. The only issue we had was that one day we returned in the evening to find the glass shower door was missing, and we later found some pieces of broken glass on the floor. I contacted the front desk, and they moved us to a new room. It was odd not to have been notified that one of the cleaners broke the door, but I'm happy they took care of it once we contacted them.

I had reasonable expectations for this hotel but unfortunately expectations were not met. They fell well short really. The beds were hard and pillows were flat so it was hard to get a good night sleep. The housekeeping ladies knocked on the door at 8am each morning wanting to remake the room. Seems pretty early to be doing that. Would have hung a doo not disturb sign on the door but the hotel didn’t have those. The water ran dark brown one day. The guy at the front desk said the city turned the water off for a while which caused it…maybe. On top of that, they were doing significant renovations to the hotel so the restraint was closed, the bar was closed and the worked started at 8am too. The whole place smelt strongly of wet paint fumes the whole time. They would have been best to close the hotel for such significant renovations but no, they stayed open and charged the full rate. Even without the renovations I would never go back here. Could be a good hotel but it just isn’t.

The hotel is nice but the day when we checked in, there was a big renevotion so the sound of heavy machine came from the room above us from the moment we moved in the room luckily we were so tired that we can sleep in that noise, the room looks neat and clean but there were few small cockroches that run on our bed maybe it came out because of the renovation upstair, otherwise the stuffs are nice and the place is safe and comfortable.

Great breakfast and very relieved to find a new and more extensive menu. No second bin in rooms for recyclables. Great shower. Lovely pillows but matrass very hard. VERY expensive compared to previous visits - so bad that I moved to another hotel.

We stayed at City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront 4 nights from 13 January 2024. The hotel offers very nice breakfast. Rooms are comfortable and very modern. We used to spend about 10 min walking to V&A Waterfront at any time of the day. Beautiful combination of Price&Quality!

Convenient and reasonable price. However, need to do much better with the TVs in the room. No stations programmed and no instructions on how to program.

Gute Lage. Für einen Kurzaufenthalt (1-3 Nächte) gutes Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Nicht unbedingt gute Schallisolation zum Nachbarzimmer.

The hotel staff is as always very friendly and helpful. The changes to the rooms favor looks to practicality. For me the bed is too low (it’s an age and mobility thing) and the wooden frame introduce unnecessary danger. The lack of closed clothes storage makes a 9-day stay fairly difficult. The changes to the restaurants looks good, but seating is impractical - at least next to the windows. Some of the old nice touches such as a bit of popcorn with drinks on the patio in the afternoon is sad and caused the hotel to loose some of its homely feel to commercial consistency. Having said that, the restaurant provides good quality at a decent price.

Good value for money, well situated and easily accessible from the motorway. Rooms recently renovated and comfortable, clean and fresh ,new bed linnen and well equipped. Consistently high standard

Not only is the hotel undergoing massive construction, the walls are paper thin, I can hear absolutely everything in the hallways and in other rooms, house keeping work me up twice barging in even tho I loudly shouted no thank you (there are no signs to hang on the door to decline housekeeping and there are no deadbolts on the hotel doors) -- who does this at 8:30am?!?!! This is grossly overpriced hotel for what we actually get -- overall poor experience sadly

Hotel was great in a central location with clean comfortable rooms. The only issue arose with check in when the staff couldn’t find my reservation— unclear if that was a problem with hotels.Com or the hotel itself. But otherwise a wonderful stay.

Aviwe the bar tender was amazing! So attentive, engaging, alert and happy. He made our stay so much more fun! We had excellent conversations with him and have begged him to move to the UK to teach them customer service! All the staff are fully engaged and friendly.

Very nice hotel in the Mother City, Cape Town. I chose the best hotel on this trip!!! Hotel staff and employees were all good at their work.

The staff were very friendly and responsive. Construction works was ongoing but with minimal distraction. I definitely enjoyed my stay and I intend to return there with my entire family, the next time I visit Cape Town.

This is a good location to walk to and from the V & A waterfront. It’s probably a 10-15 minute walk. There is a path with clear signs that lead you there without having to walk in traffic. This is written November 20, 2024 and they are doing extensive remodeling so there is no gym, pool or restaurant. Since I workout every morning that was a disappointment for me. I hope that once it is done it will be a nice edition to the hotel. Staff very kind and helpful. I would rate them as excellent.

This hotel has been renovated since the first time we stayed here. The location is excellent. We always stay here because of the easy access to the hotel and mostly for the walking distance to the V&A Waterfront for shopping and restaurants.

Price. Location. Amenities. Linens. City Lodge Waterfront is a gem. Easy short walk to center of V&A Waterfront and all the attractions, yet on the edge with easy auto access. We were connecting with a cruise and could see our ship docked at cruise terminal from the hotel. All ez-pz.

The hotel is in a safe area which is important in Cape Town . Very efficient Uber service. Nice breakfast and nice room. Close to lots of restaurants in the Harbour area.

Traveled Solo, 3 nights. The breakfast cost extra, but good value for the money. There are nice canal views from the restaurant. Also had dinner at the restaurant 1 night. Good quality food, at reasonable prices. The room has lots of room with a fridge, there is a convenience store a few blocks away. Can buy snacks, sandwiches, drinks, at a very reasonable price. Took 2 tours booked by the hotel. Informative, nice air conditioned vans, also a good value, I would definitely book again when in Cape Town.
