It was less than we hoped for or expected. Had to carry luggage from rear of building to front because no entrance from parking lot. Lobby and main floor were outstanding. Our room was on 3rd floor and elevator was not in service. Our refrigerator had a spill from a previous guest that had not been cleaned. Had to order ice and glasses from front desk. Bathroom was very dark. Can’t imagine a woman trying to apply make up. Shower head needs to be replaced- it spewed water all over bathroom floor. And lastly, cable tv did not work to watch Stanley Cup playoffs. Streaming did work. This hotel has so much potential with some TLC

The Grand Hotel is a unique experience from your typical travel hotel. Very elegant. Has been refurbished. Bathroom was very tiny with no place to set your toiletries but serviceable. Some small things need to fixed but overall a grand place to stay. There is no restaurant on site but the Boulton House restaurant was a great place to eat. Food was excellent and enjoyable on the patio with a view of the river.

Gorgeous hotel, perfect for weddings I think. Very clean. Lovely room. Friendly reception when I arrived. A few pointers: have someone at the desk in the morning, make it easy for guest to get into the hotel from the back parking lot instead of trekking through snow and ice with bags over the sidewalk to the fronti of the hotel. Put a mirror near an outlet so blowdrying hair is possible, and since theres no restaurant on site, create a partnership with coffee shop, bakery, or restaurant so guests have a go to place to get meals instead if still having to sort through restaurant lists and drive again after a long trip. We stayed in the Imperial Suite and it was absolutely beautiful! The hotel is incredibly lovely and historic, furnishings are ornate wooden pieces - plush and comfy heavy old sofas and armchairs… we were thrilled with our room. The dining room was closed much to our sadness as we were looking forward to a meal there. We were directed to an incredible restaurant 3 blocks away in an old mill and weren’t disappointed with either the food or the outdoor seating right on the river and we were pleased to be treated to the sound of the falls as we ate. The owner of the hotel was very friendly and has his personal residence there - we knew upon discovering that fact that we had stumbled onto a gem and we would return in a heartbeat if we’re ever in the area again seeking accommodation. Highly recommend the Imperial Suite!

Wonderful heritage hotel with amazing public rooms with a magnificent historic feel. During my visit the hotel was being renovated in various areas but the owners kept me informed before I arrived and during my brief stay. The town is equally charming with a wonderful river frontage. Because the hotel restaurant was closed for the renovations, I ate at The Waterfront which was wonderfully welcoming and served great beer and food.

Unfortunately we didn’t have the best time, here’s the Cole’s notes. Get into the room: There’s dirty mugs on the mantle - they don’t match the set in the room so we assumed it belonged to house keeping. There was stuff on the floor (either they didn’t vac or sweep) Shower didn’t work - it was leaking out the top and malfunctioning. The tub / shower / sink all had hair in them The fire in the bedroom didn’t work so we were told if we wanted it someone would have to come up to manually mess with it. The staff who offered were lovely about this. There was a Christmas party in the restaurant until…midnight. Which is fine, but the listing says the space is soundproof - it’s not at allllll Found bottle caps under furniture And there’s no curtains in anywhere other than the bedroom so it was: loud, not private (gas station has a clear view to the room) and it let a ton of light in The staff were somewhat helpful, but not about our concerns when we left, it did get brushed off. For the price paid, I would be fine with one or two issues, but not this level. We intended for a relaxing weekend away, and we had the opposite.

As usual, we enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel. Staff are friendly and accommodating, the rooms are quiet, spotlessly clean and the mattress was very comfy. No complaints.

The location of the hotel is ideal for walking and convenient to restaurants and downtown facilities. The exterior entrance, lobby, common areas and art work are eye-catching. A nice touch was the 2 bottles of water provided and the fresh coffee creamers available in the room fridge. The king bed was very comfortable. However, our third-floor room needed some attention (bathroom floor paint peeling off the tiles, burnt out bulb in bathroom fixture, no mat for wet winter boots so hardwood floor became a mess quickly). There are many possibilities here and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. We would definitely try it again another time.

The vintage style of the hotel was outstanding. Staff was very professional, with a positive attitude and being eager to help. A bit more care of the cleanliness appearance of the rooms at the last floor would go along way. Also, the condition of the plugs, phone etc. should be checked and maintained on a more regular basis.

My wife and I stayed here for a couple nights. The room we were in was pretty small, but it was fine for just the two of us. Biggest compaint was that the bathroom mirror is very high off the ground and is very small. My wife has a hard time seeing in the mirror to get ready. Just add a mirror on the wall in the room somewhere to solve this problem. The other big issue was electrical outlets. There isn't one in the bathroom, so using a hair dryer was not very convenient for my wife. Again, a mirror in the main room near an outlet would solve this issue.

Great Victorian vibe, nice sized room with mini fridge and Keurig machine. Front desk receptionist was very friendly and warm, and owner of the hotel lives on site and can be reached at all hours. Enjoyed.my very short overnight stay and would recommend to others.

It’s a nice heritage hotel. AC was not working, they provided fan but we couldn’t sleep at night. Staff and owner was very polite and supportive. Overall, hotel is good however there are room to improve cleanliness.

Unfortunately I was unable to sleep in room 202 as a large next door roof a/c unit rumbled and shook until I decided at 4:00 am to depart the place. The room, to me, had a "sour milk" odor though perhaps the odor was some type of fragrance. I will not stay at this business again.

For the price paid, I would be fine with one or two issues, but not this level. We intended for a relaxing weekend away, and we had the opposite.

The hotel was lovely and the staff very nice, however, they weren’t equipped to have people checking in during the Santa Claus parade. No parking, no alternate routes. Had to come back 2 hrs later than scheduled. Once inside I was told there was only 1 room left, although I had prebooked 2 weeks in advance. The room I was shown was tiny and not what I booked. Eventually I was ‘upgraded’ (?) to the room I had originally booked. The room was lovely, clean and spacious. All of the lights (there were a lot) were controlled by remotes. This was rather confusing. The one overhead light by the door was controlled by a switch outside in the hallway. I suggest they upgrade their electrical situation. It was an interesting stay to say the least. Good location and near shops and restaurants.

Gorgeous hotel, perfect for weddings I think. Very clean. Lovely room. Friendly reception when I arrived. A few pointers: have someone at the desk in the morning, make it easy for guest to get into the hotel from the back parking lot instead of trekking through snow and ice with bags over the sidewalk to the fronti of the hotel. Put a mirror near an outlet so blowdrying hair is possible, and since theres no restaurant on site, create a partnership with coffee shop, bakery, or restaurant so guests have a go to place to get meals instead if still having to sort through restaurant lists and drive again after a long trip. Overall - cool place for a romantic getaway or event, not so much for business travel.

Great old hotel.. the place is set up for weddings in "ball rooms", and where there was once a pub. The room we had was very nice, comfortable bed, clean, nice staff, and we had everything we needed. There's no breakfast service in the mornings, but there are some great options nearby. The town is ideal for a stroll with cute shops, bakeries, restaurants and pubs all within walking distance, and it's a short drive to visit other towns...Definitely recommend if you are looking for a place to stay in this area.

The Grand Hotel is a unique, lovely hotel in a historical building. It doesn't have all of the amenities of a modern hotel but the service and friendliness makes up for it. The food is excellent. It is central to the community with walking areas easily accessible. I highly recommend it.

The Grand Hotel is a unique experience from your typical travel hotel. Very elegant. Has been refurbished. Bathroom was very tiny with no place to set your toiletries but serviceable. Some small things need to fixed but overall a grand place to stay. There is no restaurant on site but the Boulton House restaurant was a great place to eat. Food was excellent and enjoyable on the patio with a view of the river.

Wonderful heritage hotel with amazing public rooms with a magnificent historic feel. During my visit the hotel was being renovated in various areas but the owners kept me informed before I arrived and during my brief stay. The town is equally charming with a wonderful river frontage. Because the hotel restaurant was closed for the renovations, I ate at The Waterfront which was wonderfully welcoming and served great beer and food.

The first room we had the shower leaked and sprayed over the shower enclosure. We looked at another room that had a similar problem. After that they upgraded our room. It was frustrating to have to move all of our things after we unpacked however the staff was nice and accomodating.
