Stayed 2 nights

A story about how easy it is to lose a customer… I stayed at the Holiday Inn Warsaw – City Centre for two nights during a business trip. Unfortunately, I caught some kind of virus and spent my second night with a fever. I went down to reception and asked if I could get some painkillers. I was told that the hotel could not sell me any medication — fair enough. I went to a pharmacy myself. When I came back, I asked the receptionist for a bottle of water. I was told that I had to pay PLN 10 for it. I asked why, especially since the water in my room had not even been replenished. The receptionist, who appeared to be the head of reception, explained that it was probably because I had left the “Do Not Disturb / Please do not clean my room” sign on the door. This was particularly disappointing given that the hotel actively promotes sustainability and encourages guests not to request room cleaning when it is not necessary. On top of that, I was told that I had to check out by 11:00, while the rest of my team had apparently been told they could stay until 12:00. So, despite having a fever, I did not even have the opportunity to get some extra sleep. I travel all over the world and stay in corporate hotels regularly, and I have never experienced a situation where a hotel charged me for a bottle of water under circumstances like these. And this is absolutely not about the PLN 10. It is about hospitality, common sense, and showing a little understanding and support to a guest.

The hotel’s.com website was misleading; the receptionist confirmed check-out is at 3pm, not 2pm. We also had to wait half an hour for our room. The hotel itself was lovely.
