Very professional and hospitable staff, the king size room was enough space for a couple. All the amenities are modern and easy to use. Pay attention to the window opening mechanism instructions if they are unfamiliar to you! Excellent cafe and bar attached. It would be nice to have a water station on the ground level too.

Hotel is in a great neighbourhood. The cafe and bar are excellent and convenient. The staff are super knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. The second floor could use a refresh - the carpets are stained and the rooms and hallway could use a new coat of paint. Overall really happy with our stay.

This was our first trip to Tokyo and we really enjoyed our stay. The neighborhood is quiet and trendy, the staff spoke English well and were very accommodating. We were able to rent bikes to explore the city instead of taking the subway and I'd highly recommend doing that. Cool amenities like checking out vinyl records to listen to in your room we're a nice touch. Rooms were pretty small but comfortable and the bathrooms very nice. Great value and we'd definitely stay again.

The property itself is a a short ways off from the main part of the neighborhood which makes it super convenient to lots of vintage shopping and restaurants as well as the train without feeling like you’re in stepping out into traffic the moment you leave the hotel. The cafe downstairs is good but there’s word class coffee blocks in any direction as well. Only complaint is the patio does not come with any furniture / cushions which made it not very pleasant to use with no shade and nowhere to sit.

A really great hotel in Shimokitazawa in a very quiet location. Lots of cafes around, and walkable to the trendy Shimokitazawa neighbourhood. I stayed for a week and the whole time it was very peaceful and comfortable. The staff were all excellent, and the on-site cafe has great coffee and bagels. The rooms are quite basic, but with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Outstanding value. The amenities, such as the washers/dyers and the pajamas, are surprisingly nice. Great neighborhood, close to transportation, and walkable, too. Coffee/bagel shop in the lobby is excellent. Staff were so helpful and friendly.

Great location and staff are nice. Great breakfast and turntables are a nice addition but the hotel is run down - walls are scuffed and marked up with large chunks missing. It feels so run down, especially at this price point. It needs a new carpet and a solid paint job. We stayed at another hotel in Tokyo that was $100 less a night and way nicer!

The Mustard Hotel offers a very unique stay that you won't forget. My wife and I greatly enjoyed renting records to play in our room. The staff was very friendly and patient with our basic japanese. Our room was on the smaller side, but not too bad for Tokyo. Overall a very fun experience near some awesome areas in Shimokitazawa!

Would not recommend staying here for the mattress alone. It is as hard as sleeping on the floor and even the pillows are uncomfortable. I was in pain every night of my stay. I regret not reading reviews more thoroughly and relying more on the star rating and less thorough review details. Not much can make up for an uncomfortable bed imo but for the rest... The staff were very nice and helpful, the public areas were cute, minimal but well maintained and looked like the pictures. Anything after that was a surprise and disappointing. Once you get to the halls and the rooms, it felt like a different place. The nice looking japandi minimalism doesn’t translate when the lighting is bad, walls are beat up and carpets stained. The rooms are tiny but I expected this. The shower area was uncomfortably snug though and the whole bathroom floor gets wet. The trains run directly under the hotel and I could feel and hear them on the second floor. Not super loud but noticeable. Fairly quiet otherwise. Room cleaning and bed change service only applies after every 3 or 4 nights so to get trash or towels changed before then you have to put them in the hall, this meant often walking through a hall lined with dirty towels and trash bins. Not a huge deal just didn’t do much to sweeten the experience.

Staff were very helpful. Breakfast included was basic but they have good strong coffee. Hotel was pretty cute overall - no TV but there's a record player in the room. Area has nearby restaurants, bars, shops, and close to both the Inokashira Line and Odakyu Line. Room was a good size too.

The rooms were smaller than we expected, especially given their names. The bathroom was also quite small, and the poorly designed partition between the shower and the rest of the space made it easy for water to spread. Additionally, the air felt stale. That said, the hotel was in a great location, and the breakfast was excellent.

The area is fantastic. The hallways aren’t the most beautiful and the rooms were very simple with not much character, however they weee functional. The windows didn’t open and could get stuffy.

Stayed 10 nights in July 24... Hotel was great! Location was amazing! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The only complaint that I would have is the window in our room was super small and was up high, kinda made the room feel like a modern jail cell in a way but outside of that everything was amazing! Will stay here again!

Trendy lobby and a great location in (also very self-consciously trendy) Shimo, but overall a much more youth hostel-like experience than expected at this price point. Rooms very basic; thin walls, no bath or even TV in the "superior" room, small feeling standard double bed up against the window (so whoever is on the wall side gets a face full of curtain and a cold draught all night). No proper lighting controls or lamps. Lots of foreign tourists staying - whether you count that as a good or bad thing, visitors excited to be in Japan for the first time (and used to what 100 bucks a night gets you in London/Paris/NYC) won't care but, having lived in Tokyo many years, we feel very aware the rooms are below standard and overpriced for what you might expect at so many business motels around Tokyo (and actually we were at a 5-star hotel the prior few days scarcely $15 more than this per night). If you want to party in Shimo or Shibuya you're paying for the location, basically, plus a little English service at reception. (Having said that, not all staff on reception wer excellent English speakers either.)

My wife and I stayed for 8 nights. The reception area, front deck, and coffee bar area were great. Our room had 2 twin mattresses pushed together on one platform. The mattresses were comfortable, but they did slide around on the platform. The room was very tight, with room for the bed and a small desk area. One suitcase went under the bed, other bags lined the hallway. The shower area was also tight, in the same area as the toilet and the sink. No dresser or any drawers for clothing. The suitcases had to be placed atop the bed to access clothing. There were no decorations on the walls and the paint was scuffed and dingy. My visiting son said the room reminded him of a bad college dorm room. Wall to wall carpeting. Housekeeping was scheduled 2 times during our stay. Our allergies acted up in the room, I think because of the carpeting. The front desk staff was excellent - very friendly and helpful. The coffee bar, which is where you receive pre-paid breakfast meals was very good, with fresh bagels and spreads each morning. The hotel is very conveniently located, near shopping, numerous restaurants, and the train station. The room had a phonograph to play vinyl albums which were available at the front desk. We did not utilize this amenity. The front of the hotel seems to be a community meeting place, with numerous people, their dogs, and children congregating on the front deck and accessing the coffee shop. Friendly people, and noise was not an issue.

I had a wonderful stay! Great location near the train and many shops, restaurants, and bars. Very friendly and helpful staff. Opportunities to commingle with other travelers through the onsite bar and bagel cafe were lovely and made my stay even more enjoyable. Everything was clean and inviting. 10/10 recommend!

Very clean and very easy to travel from hotel to the Tokyo cities. The train stations are about a ten minute walk or less. The staff is very friendly as well! They have luggage storage services so you can adventure before check in and after check out! Highly recommend staying here. The surrounding area has a variety of thrift shops and restaurants.
