A lovely hotel right in the heart of the town. Very good customer service. Be warned that there are steps throughout the building which made it tricky for our aged parents however we managed to change their room to one without steps to the bathroom with no fuss. Bar service was excellent, we didn't get to down there but the food looked great.

The bars and restaurants are lovely, nicely decorated but the flooring around the hotel stairs and corridors is shabby and frayed. The bedroom fur note is tired, shabby carpets, a cracked toilet, scuffed walls and scruffy curtains. The blinds couldn’t have been cleaned for weeks! The rooms are in need of refurbishment. They handle the challenges of limited parking very well. Charming and v helpful and responsive staff. Fantastic breakfasts, lots to do within hotel and nearby. Great location. Will go again!

This was my third stay at The Angel....love the hotel and the position is great. With the free parking and being in centre of town it is perfect. Love the shops nearby too but a special shout out goes to Steve the incredible cheerful concierge who went out of his way to help and seemed to be juggling several things at once incredibly effectively. It was a Bank Holiday weekend and so the hotel was very busy.

From the gorgeous hotel exterior as you walk up to it, to the incredible interior, wonderful staff and beautiful room...where to start! The hotel itself was incredible wherever you went, with fantastically friendly and attentive staff everywhere you looked! The Eaterie restaurant, the bar, lounge and even The Vaults for a brilliant Sunday Lunch were terrific as well. To top it all off, the room was absolutely perfect as well! It is a very easy decision where to stay when we come back to Bury St Edmunds, and it is right back at The Angel Hotel every single time! Stunningly brilliant stay!

Beautiful location, all facilities were very good indeed, no complaints whatsover. The thing that stood out to me though, was the level of training that the staff have obviously undertaken, impeccable, professional and welcoming. If you stay in this area and chose anywhere other than the Angel Hotel, you have downgraded. Highly recommended.

We stayed in an angel classic room. After much excitement at staying at the Angel, at the price point they charge rooms I found the room to be uninspiring, tired and reminding me of a budget 1980’s hotel, no fridge, the bed was uncomfortable, the wall was damaged and left unrepaired. Overall very disappointed. We stayed in a hotel in Cambridge the night before, the price point was more than £60 less than the Angel with a city centre location, the bed was comfortable, the facilities great, ironing board, iron, fridge all included, decor of high standard. I guess I was swept away with their website pictures! The staff were friendly and helpful, the public areas are lovely, the location is perfect and parking a bonus, although charged for.

The property sits across from the lovely abbey garden. The location in the village is nice. There are cute tea mugs in the rooms. The porter was cheerful. The chips/fries were delicious. After that, there is nothing about this property I can get excited about. We checked out a night early because the room was so horrible. The clerk didn't seem to care or pay attention that we were leaving a night early. The hotel photographs online are very nice. However, we must have gotten a room they never bothered with, it was a total disappointment. The shades of purple, plastic fixtures were tacky and cheap. The couch was disgusting and stained. The carpet was threadbare. The walls were cracked and the wallpaper so filthy you could see where previous items had hung. There were no face cloths, the shower was either dirty or damaged and had the water pressure of a teaspoon. While the food was presented well, it was under seasoned. When we asked for ketchup we were brought a tablespoon's worth for the table. The hostess was a poor example of hospitable. We were sat at a table close to the exterior door that kept opening and closing. We asked to be sat at a different table at the far end of the dining room and were told we could only have that for 40 minutes. It was not reserved. The excuse given was that it might be used as part of a rally for possible guests. The lobby/restaurant/tea room area are all delightfully decorated but sadly a service and food let down.

Beautiful decorated hotel. The staff were welcoming on arrival. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there and each time, the food was lovely and staff were attentive. Reasonably priced as well. The room was clean and accommodating although very warm room!

Overall the the stay was ok the staff where very friendly and helpful and parking was great. However was a little disappointed at the quality of the room for the cost per night expected a lot nicer room. Room looked dated the blind on the window was sun faded and the cupboard doors would not close correctly and the room furniture generally tired. Also when walking through the hotel found the carpets thread bare on stairs and around the lift area and in places the wall paper was coming off the walls not really what I would like to find in a expensive four star hotel.
Overall the the stay was ok the staff where very friendly and helpful and parking was great. Very nice hotel, central and couldn’t be better situated. The hotel combines an historic building with modern amenities. The dining room is excellent, worth booking dinner. Breakfast wasn’t bad but lacked panache. For a three night stay it got a bit repetitive. The bed was a bit soft and I don’t like rooms that have windows that cannot be opened, it made the room very stuffy. Bedside lights were hopeless for reading but looked beautiful…

Room luxurious and spacious but no dressing table with mirror for make up / hair styling. No full length mirror. No shelf in the bathroom near the washbasin to perch a toilet bag. Lovely comfortable bed though!

The interiors of the bedrooms are hugely outdated and in dire need of remodelling. Extraordinarily beautiful building with premier inn bedrooms. Bar quite cool and lovely staff everywhere but the room hugely let the place down.

Lovely hotel great location. I paid for an upgrade to a splendid room and it was well worth it the room was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend this hotel.

It was a very busy weekend at the hotel and they appeared to have guests staying who were attending at least two weddings! Despite this service was great from the reception and concierge. The room was lovely and had recently been refurbished to a very good standard. The only slight negative was that despite three of us talking to restaurant staff about arranging a table for 9 for breakfast, this wasn’t arranged and we ended up sitting in the lounge rather than the restaurant, but at least we were all able to sit together. The breakfast was a little inconsistent, plates had items missing, but all corrected quickly. It was a very busy weekend at the hotel and they appeared to have guests staying who were attending at least two weddings! Despite this service was great from the reception and concierge. The room was lovely and had recently been refurbished to a very good standard. The only slight negative was that despite three of us talking to restaurant staff about arranging a table for 9 for breakfast, this wasn’t arranged and we ended up sitting in the lounge rather than the restaurant, but at least we were all able to sit together. The breakfast was a little inconsistent, plates had items missing, but all corrected quickly. This was probably due to a full hotel and most guests having a late breakfast after a night of celebrating. Fabio was the star of the stay !

Perfect location as you can walk to everywhere so no need to use a car. The hotel is a lovely old historic building, the rooms are fairly well appointed, but a little dated, a coat of paint wouldn’t go amiss. Quite expensive considering the condition, but the location makes up for it. For the price it would be nice to have breakfast included

A lovely hotel right in the heart of the town. Very good customer service. Be warned that there are steps throughout the building which made it tricky for our aged parents however we managed to change their room to one without steps to the bathroom with no fuss. Bar service was excellent, we didn't get to down there but the food looked great.

Reception were not on top of things. I made a booking of two rooms and used my credit card as a guarantee. I informed the lady at the reception that only one room should be booked on my card and so did my colleague. However, they still charged both rooms to my credit card!

We always enjoy our time at the Angel hotel; the staff are top notch and the bar and restaurant high quality. We particularly appreciate the valet parking which makes the experience feel 5*.

This was my third stay at The Angel....love the hotel and the position is great. With the free parking and being in centre of town it is perfect. Love the shops nearby too but a special shout out goes to Steve the incredible cheerful concierge who went out of his way to help and seemed to be juggling several things at once incredibly effectively. It was a Bank Holiday weekend and so the hotel was very busy.

From the gorgeous hotel exterior as you walk up to it, to the incredible interior, wonderful staff and beautiful room...where to start! The hotel itself was incredible wherever you went, with fantastically friendly and attentive staff everywhere you looked! The Eaterie restaurant, the bar, lounge and even The Vaults for a brilliant Sunday Lunch were terrific as well. To top it all off, the room was absolutely perfect as well! It is a very easy decision where to stay when we come back to Bury St Edmunds, and it is right back at The Angel Hotel every single time! Stunningly brilliant stay!

This is our second stay at this property and really enjoy the location and convenience to the Abbey Gardens and town Centre shops. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend.

We loved the charm of the property. Our room was generous and large. The property was so close to the Abbey ruins and walkable shopping and eateries.

Lovely place to stay. But they really need to work on there breakfasts. The chef doesn't know how to cook poached eggs or even scrambled eggs . Both of us had the full English and both were very satisfactory. Other than that it was a lovely place to stay and maybe most of the menu was great.

Very nice hotel, central and couldn’t be better situated. The hotel combines an historic building with modern amenities. The dining room is excellent, worth booking dinner. Breakfast wasn’t bad but lacked panache. For a three night stay it got a bit repetitive. The bed was a bit soft and I don’t like rooms that have windows that cannot be opened, it made the room very stuffy. Bedside lights were hopeless for reading but looked beautiful…

Beautiful decorated hotel. The staff were welcoming on arrival. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there and each time, the food was lovely and staff were attentive. Reasonably priced as well. The room was clean and accommodating although very warm room!

Our room was very clean and stylish, bathroom and shower were perfect. Our only negative was that we couldn’t get a cocktail at 11pm when we returned from dinner, such a shame as we would have liked to finish our wedding day with a celebratory cocktail.

The classic room we booked was very tired and dated. The walls, especially around switchesX were marked, worn and grubby. The bathroom was especially bad, dusty, mouldy and generally needs a refurb - I felt dirty using it! The decoration, fixtures and fittings were extremely dated. The carpets were marked and stained. The hallway was like a labyrinth, and creaked loudly as other guests walked down it past the room. The outlook was a rear court yard, very minimal natural light in the room. The room doors slam loudly, so between that and the hallway our sleep was disturbed often. The bed was average, small double - bedding was clean at least. We were charged £10 extra for a bed for our 2.5 year old son to sleep in. Nobody asked us how our visit was, even on check out. The rest of the hotel looks in need of a good clean and refurb.
