arrived late evening. reception was deserted! wandered around outside on empty streets to stumble upon a lit door way a half block up in a side alley/walkway that says La Mere Pouland reception. HOW ABOUT A NOTE ON THE DOOR OF THE HOTEL/RECEPTION THAT SAYS IN FRENCH, ENGLISH AND GERMAN. That reception is down the street with a liu map!!!!!! also hotel should give u ahead of time the code for overnight parking lot!!!! only learned about this for a website

Our room was up several flights of stairs probably 70-80 in all but thats to be expected on the island. Breakfast was outstanding, the bathroom attached to the room was excellent and had a separate shower and tub. Bed was comfortable and you get two pillows per person (which we have found is rare for Western Europe).

Be prepared for stairs and inclines. Otherwise it’s an enchanting place to stay!!

Amazing location of course! Should have packed a lighter bag for the 2 nights as we had to haul our 2 roller bags up several flights. Otherwise wonderful experience and superior service!

This hotel, along with all others on the island are difficult to access with may sets of stairs and a long walk fromthe bus. The rooms are dates but clean. There are better options off the island.

If you stay during a high tide part of the month it is very much worth having a room at the fourth floor (no elevator-only stairs). Good breakfast, ok staff. Visiting in September was a good idea as there is no air condition. Pay attention to the emails you get about where to park, where the reception is located etc! And of course ... during the high tide part of the months - arrive/leave at the correct hour during the day!

There are about 40 steps to the rooms, and several smaller and shorter ones on the property. Keep this in mind if you travel with a lot of luggage. You also need a code from the property prior to parking your car. You take a bus from the parking to about 600 meters to the entrance. We didn’t know ANY of this until we got there. A LONG walk but oh so worth it. Spectacular!!

The hotel is definitely 3 star, no AC, no elevator but the location is very good. Close to the abbey.

If there was an option to give a negative star rating I would select that but 1 star is as low as I can go. -room wasn’t available until (5:00) well after our check in time (4:00) -dirty lobby (stains on the sofa, dirty carpet) -hallway to our room was disgusting -our room was disgusting, stains all over the walls, dusty, fridge had something growing in it, stained mattress, stained bedding, something that looked like human waste wiped on the side of the bed We left and requested for our money back.

Key collected from an office, not the hotel you see online, up a flight of steep stone steps. Climbed another flight of steep stone steps to access the "green door" which led to a further 4 flights of stairs up to a small room. Room was tired, in need of a deep clean, thick dust around carpet edges/skirting boards. Toilet seat was not secure. Shower over bath, no shower curtain/screen. Hand soap dispenser broken. Bed/bedding/towels clean and satisfactory. Kettle provided with 2 sachets of coffee. Fridge not working and no bottled water provided. I would not recommend this hotel, oversold and undelivered

There was a smell coming from the room. We complained about it and asked multiple staff members to come take a look and they all refused. It turns out the toilet was leaking and the smell waa from coming from the sewer pipe. Would not stay there again.

Pour la chambre!! Pas du tout dans l'hotel principal et vue sur un mur!! Moquette taché avec du café, papier dans la poubelle!! Du coup on s'est demandé si le ménage avait été fait!! Le petit déj, au premier étage de l'auberge! Correct sans plus! Vue le prix de la chambre, on peut s'attendre à mieux!

Chambre (409) sale avec moquette tachée, mite au plafond, toiles d'araignées, et même boule-quies usagées dans la chambre à notre arrivée. Accueil saturé à notre arrivée avec une seule personne gérant reprise bagages et arrivées à l'hotel. Heureusement personnel aimable et plutot d'accord sur l'état des chambres. Bref, vous payez le site pas la qualité du prestataire.

Bathroom smelled mildew or mold.

While I understand that this is in a very old building, so not to expect perfection at all but our rooms smelled so badly we had to sleep with the windows open every night. There was mould all over the window coverings. The kettle was dirty. There was what looked like blood splattered on the wall. Such a dirty and stained carpet. To say i was disappointed would be an understatement.

The hotel says that it is 3 stars, but I would struggle to give it 1.5 stars. The reception area was dingy and the carpet looked filthy. The room was tiny, the toilet seat was broken, the bed was soft, lumpy and slanted downward so it felt like I was falling out of it. Some of the pillows had a musty smell and it didn’t seem all that clean. I have paid less for 4 and 5 star hotels that actually deserved their stars. Unfortunately this is what you get if you want to stay on the island, a sub-par hotel with an inflated price tag. But it’s worth staying on the island for one night. Just don’t expect the hotel to be anything more than barely ok.

Hall d'entrée de l'hôtel sentant l'urine de chat. Vitres sales et au RDC vitres très très sales peintures écaillées des fenêtres. Pour la restauration rien à dire petits déjeuners sympa et grand choix dans le buffet. Repas du soir en demi pension correct dommage que l'omelette soit possible avec supplément.

Malhonnêteté des propriétaires car établissement en travaux alors que pris de la chambre proposé en direct a 320€ , ouf tarif Expedia a 254€ encore trop cher pour la prestation, moisissures dans la salle de bains, porte entrée usée par le temps, détecteur fumée très sale, vitres non lavées depuis longtemps au vu de l’épaisseur saleté. On attend à ce prix d’un soi disant 3 étoiles au moins un tarif remisé… en attendant une rénovation plus que nécessaire pour être digne d’un 3 étoiles. Malgré tout , passer une nuit dans un hôtel sur le mont st Michel reste merveilleux. Merci aux propriétaires des hôtels de ne pas en profiter pour autant! Les jeunes salariés au petit déjeuner ne sont pas formés, les normes d’hygiène ne sont pas respectées, qui embauchent ce personnel?

The room wasn’t ready until 4 pm & it was on the fifth floor. Nice view from the window but tough getting up there with no elevator. We are both over 75 years old. The shower was only a hand held in the tub so difficult to use. Location was great, first hotel as you come into town but very noisy in the morning as all the trucks arrived early to unload supplies for the shops & restaurants. No AC so we had to sleep with the windows open. Breakfast was very nice. Great variety & wonderful coffee machine with several choices.

The room was clean and had a beautiful view. The carpet was a little dated, and the window sill could use a fresh coat of paint, but the bathroom was nicely updated and the bedding was new and clean. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff was wonderful!

Room was clean and very quiet. We could see the steeple from our room lit up at night. Breakfast was amazing. The best so far in France.

Absolutely gorgeous location! We could walk around Mont Saint Michel at night and it was so incredible to view the island this way. The only qualm was that the room was very hot with a fan, and our room was on the ground floor so we couldn’t really open the windows. This was a small inconvenience though for being able to stay in such a gorgeous location. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

We were lucky to have a view of the bay from our room. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable.

My expectations were for an old hotel in a beautiful setting. But the room was new and gorgeous with every modern accessory. The view from the three large windozs was stunning, and the bedding materials were very high quality. I will definitely return.

Great location and view, third sleeping place behind a partition gives extra privacy

Outside of our window on the 5th floor, right below us was the exhaust fan of the restaurant. It was so loud that keeping the window open was not an option. The reception promised me that it would be turned off by 8:30pm. Well ... it NEVER TURNED OFF! I do not like to be lied to. We like to sleep with the window open. That's impossible. As there is no a/c and the rooms are very small it gets stuffy quickly. As much as we love the hotel, the location and the staff, please, do NOT LIE to me. We did not hear the noise with the windows shut which proves to me that they are very much aware of that issue. So ... do not lie to your guests! And yes! Travel light! The shuttle bus stops quite a distance away from the actual village and there are no elevators. All that is no problem but the exhaust of the restaurant ... unacceptable!

Room was clean and more comfortable than I was imagining. You need to know that you ARE staying in a bit of a tourist trap area so you are paying for location mostly. It was worth it for us to be able to stay on the island overnight and get the full sunrise and sunset experiences

Good position on the island. Very poor check in service. You need a code to access the car park and are told to call the hotel on arrival. No one answered the phone. Luckily the security guard was happy to let us through. Despite being told to return at 4 to get our room key, no one turned up until 4.10. Security for left luggage extremely poor. There was a short power cut in the evening. No one provided any information. My husband went to Reception, but there was no one available at all. Luckily the power returned fairly quickly. Breakfast was nice enough. Poor decor ... in need of an update.

The room was very comfortable, the service was incredible. We showed up close to mid night and the receptionist personally drove us across the land bridge to the hotel on the mont. Very quiet and dreamlike on the mont at night. The continental breakfast was delicious.

Our hotel had no staff and was serviced by another hotel. Directions to access the hotel were never clarified before we arrived. We were not aware parking is offsite and requires bus transfer or where to park. Otherwise, it was an excellent stay in the most beautiful place.

Right on the island. But that’s not necessarily a plus since nice photos are taken on the bridge which is 350m from the island. So it’s a 5-10 minute walk anytime you want to “see” MSM. It’s easier to get that Instagram shot if you stay on mainland. The condition of the hotel is dated and poor. I know their disclaimer “it’s a historic hotel”, but that’s not a license NOT to change room carpet which looks to be about 20 years old and has not been vacuumed for a while. The room is dark (ok I know it’s historic, but how about a brighter LED bulb?) How about not using dark grey wallpaper? I Cannot see things on the floor under dim light as the old carpet is dark grey as well. Heaters in the room & bathroom not operational. And no AC. Our “view room” has a 2 ft wide window looking at the parking and the bridge - a far cry from “bay view” as advertised. Be careful when you book a “bay view” room. Reception is not at the hotel & is 1 block away where you have to go up a flight of stairs to get your key, then walk back down and up the street back to the hotel. Hotel is above the restaurant, but entry to hotel not marked. When you ask the restaurant ppl, they send you back to the reception down the street instead of telling you to enter thru a small unmarked door next to restaurant. The only nice thing is the breakfast. Nice selections and good service. Wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel experience but when you charge people 5 star hotel price there’ some basic expectations.

Unfortunately, the only good thing about the hotel is its location in the mount. Our room had carpeted floors, which were very dirty. The breakfast was good. When we checked out in the morning, the receptionist treated us terribly, even though there was no problem. We couldn't understand why.

What an experience to stay on the island. It would have been helpful to let people know that it is a historic hotel in the village of Mont St. Michel. You need to park in P3 and take the shuttle to the island. Use a small light back. Ancient cobblestones and many many stairs. Absolutely stunning views.

Excellent location

Location was great.

Hôtel directement située au Mont Saint-Michel. C'est une expérience incroyable de se promener dur le site le soir et à l'aube lorsqu'il n'y a pas tous les touristes. La chambre avait une vue sur la baie (maison rouge), elle était grande et propre. Ça sentait un peu l'urine de chat et le moisi à l'entrée du bâtiment, mais pas d'odeur désagréable dans la chambre. La chambre manque un peu d'entretien côté décoration et peinture, mais nous n'étions là que pour une nuit et avons bien dormis. Juste pour l'expérience d'être presque seuls sur le Mont, ça vaut la peine de dormir sur place!

Nice stay and beautiful location

It was close to the entrance of Mont Saint Michel, making it easier to walk to with backpacks. We loved staying there at night.

Magical location, couldn’t be more centrally located! Rooms were sparsely decorated, but absolutely huge for Europe! Breakfast was divine – way more than just a few croissants & yogurt. Very easy luggage storage before check-in and after check out, as well.

Room was clean and very quiet. We could see the steeple from our room lit up at night. Breakfast was amazing. The best so far in France.

Check in was quick. It wasn’t the most updated room and bathroom but all I really care about is that’s it’s clean, which it was. Breakfast ran out of bread 30 mins before closing and did not get replenished even after a few other guests asked for it. That was really the only disappointment. We skipped breakfast the next day. The stairs are steep, so if you can travel light. I’d stay again as long as I get up earlier for breakfast:)

The free breakfast was nearly nonexistent. Everything was out of stock, coffee machine did not work and the one poor staff member could not keep up.

We decided to stay on the island and expected the rooms at the hotels to be small and old. Our room wasn’t huge but it was big enough and the bathroom was plenty large with a bath and separate shower. The staff was lovely and helpful and the restaurant was charming and delicious. Great experience.

Disappointing for an hotel costing almost €400. Reception staff were polite & welcoming but staff in the restaurant were rude. Reception had made a reservation for us for dinner but the hostess in the restaurant told us to line up outside. It was very hot on the top floor which made sleeping a challenge. Breakfast was dissapointing - with cold runny scrambled eggs.
