This is a hostal so expect only towels and nothing else. The room was clean but the extra blankets were old and smelled like they have never been washed so we never used them. Thankfully it was summer so no need of them. It was a very noisy street, we heard people partying at 3/4am in the morning. The staff was very helpful. Make sure you check your key works at the entry door. Ours didn’t work and thankfully people were walking out so we were let in, otherwise they had a number you could call for emergencies. I had never stayed at a hostal but had heard of hostels so I adjusted my expectations and it was what I thought.

El Ascensor se quedó en STOP con nosotros dentro y los del hotel tuvieron CERO gestión de emergencias, debimos solucionar nosotros. A los dos siguientes días el ascensor seguía sin funcionar, adicional la recepción para hacer el checkout pésima, una asistencia "virtual" que no sabía cómo hacia sus cosas. Tolle zentrale Unterkunft mit viel Komfort Das Hostel Castilla II hat uns positiv überrascht! Die Lage ist kaum zu toppen – direkt am Plaza del Sol und trotzdem angenehm ruhig, sodass man nachts gut schlafen kann. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber und in einem gepflegten Zustand. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die gute Klimaanlage und die Möglichkeit, das Zimmer komplett zu verdunkeln – ideal für erholsamen Schlaf. Auch die Ausstattung hat überzeugt: Es gibt genügend Abstellmöglichkeiten, einen Kleiderschrank, sowie einen kleinen Kühlschrank und sogar eine Kochstation mit Wasserkocher für Kaffee oder Tee – wirklich praktisch! Kleine Verbesserungsvorschläge: Eine Garderobe zum schnellen Aufhängen von Jacken oder Taschen und ein zusätzliches Regal im Bad wären noch wünschenswert. Insgesamt aber ein sehr angemessenes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis für diese Top-Lage und den gebotenen Komfort. Wir würden definitiv wiederkommen!

Great location; central to everything. Friendly and helpful staff. Communication via WhatsApp was GREAT! Able to leave bags before checkin and after checkout which made it nice for arrival and departure. Madrid is so hot in the summer and their AC was a lifesaver! The best thing about this place is the location. Rooms are decent, its clean enough. We checked in to Hostal Castilla but we were brought to the other hotel across from the location. It is secured enough, has a lift thank goodness. I did not like that you can hear everything in the hallway. Annoying, disrespectful travellers wheel their luggages in the middle of the night and banged into your doors will wake you up. Tip: wear an earplug if you don't want your sleep interrupted. It's all you need, a bit pricey for what its worth in my opinion. Location: amazing! Close to everything that you must see in Madrid. Lots of food options too!

Mention spéciale pour le propreté. Merci aux personnel du nettoyage. La chambre était propre de A à Z aucune traces, la literie les draps étaient d’un blanc éclatant bonne odeur et extrêmement propre. Merci à ces personnes qui contribuent au confort. Là salle de bain était très très propre aussi. Rien à dire. La literie est très très très confortable L’hôtel est bien situer calme je pensais entre de beaucoup de bruit mais absolument pas. We really enjoyed this location near the Plaza Mayor with so many dining and tourist activities available nearby. The building was originally an old fire house and has a bunch of different sized rooms. Our room had a double bed a small balcony/window and a small bathroom with shower. The shower and hot water all worked great. The room was cleaned each day and they had a hot water pot with some instant coffee and tea in each room. Great price for a small, clean room in a very expensive area of Madrid.

Great location. The room was clean and small and basic as the per to the photos. Be advised this is not a modern property. Our bathroom was dated. The window looked into a very small interior court yard and other peoples accommodations so it need to be remain closed. We had to cross the street to another building to access the room. Overall a really good place to stay! The rooms were tiny and the beds were rock hard. It was very difficult to sleep on them the first couple of nights, but I got used to it. The air conditioning worked well, and you can’t beat the location. We walked everywhere we wanted to go with ease. The air conditioning worked well. We would consider staying here again.

Rooms very small and the bathrooms tiny. That said they were clean and had comfortable beds. The location of this hotel is spot on, being very central. Staff were friendly on arrival, but when I asked to use the toilet in the morning in the reception area I was told I couldn’t and have to go up to my room to use the toilet.

The room was very small, especially the bathroom. I was hitting my head against the edge of the sink everytime I used the toilet. The water temperature in the shower would not stay consistent. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and the bed pillow was uncomfortable as well.

We stayed in this hostel twice during our summer travel through Spain, once as we began our road trip and again at the end. The hostel has rooms in the building were check-in is done and in a building across the street. Both rooms were clean and in great shape. The person at the check-in desk was friendly and helpful. The location is great, right next to the plaza where the New Year Eve ball drop takes place and an entrance to the Metro is located. We will definitely try to book this hostel when we visit Madrid again.

The receptionist and owners were very hostile. When I questioned the price I had booked for versus the rate on the day of my arrival, the receptionist was very derisive and hostile and put me on the phone with the owner who berated at me loudly and to no end on the phone- a lost opportunity to just explain policies and move on. Much unnecessary drama and attitude. The second receptionist could not be bothered to even answer a simple question about location of tourist attractions. However, the cleaning staff saved the day! I lost an expensive watch that I had assumed to have slipped off my wrist in the street but it turned out to be that it was somewhere in the room: the cleaning lady found it and delicately placed it where I could see it as soon as I got in the room. If it were not for the honesty and the proficient cleaning job of the staff, I would have scored this hotel with a 1.

The last night at the next room people were shouting at 3:00 am and we could not sleep. It was terrible. I tried to call reception but they did not answer. I sent several WApp messages to the hotel reception so they could advice the people in the nearby room. Terrible!

This hotel is terrible. To begin with, they send you a message that sounds like a reprimand for not checking in at the time you specified. Then, you use the lobby restroom, and when you try to use it again, they scold you and inform you that the restroom is only for guests on the lobby level, even though there are no rooms on that level. The bathroom cleanliness is unacceptable (see attached photo). The two women at the front desk who assisted me on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in the evening, treated me very rudely. The only good thing is the location. Everything else is awful. I will never return to this place.

We loved the location, right in the center of the tourist area and just a couple of minutes to both Sol and Plaze Mayor, as well as all the other historical streets, very close to the Palace, walking for about 10 minutes. The location is the best we loved it. The room we has was spacious, very basic, but we brought everything ourselves so everything's fine. It was clean and convenient.
