We chose this Hotel due to it's proximity to Valetta centre and the fact it had great outdoor pool and bar areas and its own mini beach. Valetta centre is only a 10 minute stroll away and if you're not into walking then the Hotel offers a regular free shuttle service to the centre. It certainly has the Grand Feel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a good powerful shower and we had a partial sea view which was really nice. The rooms are a little dated with regard to decor and furnishings but we didn't mind this due to it's comfort and all the other great facilities the Hotel had. Also free parking was very handy for us as we rented a car for our stay.

Very nice place to stay, huge hotel, just 10 min walk to central Valletta, great view out over the marina, large and comfortable rooms, several restaurants, great indoor and outdoor pools and gym/spa, 24 hour bar. While I don’t think it merits 5 stars as it shows a few signs of faded glory, I would recommend it to anyone, especially in low season when rates are very reasonable and fair

Great hotel with huge pool and private beach both with plenty of chairs. Although the rooms are a bit dated the hotel is still so elegant. Its in a great position and they have daily free car/shuttle to valletta. Would highly recommend this hotel

All facilities are in old condition and look like 80’s style. The toilet in the room is not working so well and had to use it very carefully every time. The indoor pool is big enough, however the water temperature in jacuzzi is not warm enough to make you feel comfortable.

Reception and concierge staff excellent. Breakfast staff are less so - lots of them but slow to respond to requests, if at all. Beach side staff very slow and apparently forgetful. Beach area should be kept immaculate but staff walking by dropped items. Both areas need tighter management, otherwise a very nice hotel.

A wonderful hotel in walking distance of restaurants and shops in the beautiful Valetta - that's if you want to leave the hotel, with it's lovely outdoor pool, sweet little beach, choice of restaurants, gym and indoor pool and spa! Would thoroughly recommend.

The hotel is considered to be 5 star. I would give it 4. Overall the room was clean, but dated and the carpet could do with a good cleaning. Service adequate but not overly attentive and certainly not 5 star. The maid would arrive every morning knocking at the door at 8:30am to clean. We commented to reception that was too early and they just shrugged their shoulders and seemed indifferent. On the upside, the location is very good and views over to Sliema are beautiful. It's just a quick walk into Valletta.

Wir sind am morgen angereist und konnten erst am Nachmittag einchecken. Als wir unser Zimmer bezogen hatten, entdeckten wir mehrere Flecken an den Wänden und an der Türe, die nicht geputzt waren. Das ist ein 5* Hotel. Ebenfalls haben wir ein Doppelbett gewünscht und 2 Einzeöbetten bekommen. Nachdem wir an der Rezeption auf Nachreinigung gebeten haben, haben sie uns ein neues Zimmer gegeben. Das neue Zimmer lief im WC das Wasser, die Türe zur Dusche konnten wir nicht schliessen und die Seife vom Vorgänger war auf dem Duschkopf. Auch diese haben wir reklamiert. Sie haben kurzerhand jemand vorbei geschickt um die Duschtüre zu reparieren. Das Essen im Hotel ist akzeptabel, jedoch dauert der Service sehr lange und sie verrechnen einem Sachen, die nicht Bestellt wurden oder Sachen die Bestellt wurden, jedoch nicht gebracht wurden. Das Frühstück war super und die Lage auch. Man bedenke, dass ich für 3 Nächte über 1100€ bezahlt habe und dieses Hotel keine 5 Sterne verdient hat. Vorallem ist der Preis für Malta sehr hoch. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr bemüht alles korrekt zu machen, jedoch war dies das erste und letzte Mal in diesem Hotel. Wir waren im Anschluss auf Malta in einem anderen 5* Hotel, welcher die 5* verdient hat und dazu noch günstiger war als dieses Hotel. Daher Empfehle ich das Grand Hotel Excelsior nicht, ausser ihr bleibt in Valletta.

Great location for Valetta . Impressive property on arrival but the room decor extremely tired and in need of a refurb . No barrier between neighbouring balconies which would have been preferred . We visited end of October and although weather was good and we enjoyed the pool , it was not possible to get any snacks or refreshments at pool area . No coffee or drinks available at all outside as everything closed . Overall this hotel was nice , decor very dated and bathrooms needed refurb ( rubber mats etc were not very appealing ) good shower . Staff all very pleasant . Breakfast average and we were charged extra for cappuccino coffee . Wonderful views from the dining area . Would consider returning due to location but not if all facilities outside are unavailable .

The hotel was a little dated, which would have been OK, if the common areas had been clean. Unfortunately it was a little grubby. The pool side area was very dirty and could have done with a jet wash. In the room the bathroom as grubby with the grouting everywhere dirty and the shower cubicle held together with large lumps of silicone sealer. By far the worst aspect was the service across the hotel. Very, very poor and slow. A disapointing stay at what we thought was a better quality hotel.

Rooms are very dated. Facilities/ public bathrooms poorly maintained. Room cleanliness is poor. Housekeeping not attentive . Arrived to my room to find the shampoo / shower gel containers wet / sticky with a hair wrapped around it.. disgusting.. carpet in room never vaccumed during my stay. Will not stay again at this place. Dining service ok at breakfast.Lots of foreign workers

The hotel in general is extremely dated in its decor and my room was very dark, dated, had little flies in the bathroom upon arrival and a discoloured shower curtain. It doesn’t look like the hotel has had any modernisation in many years. The buffet at breakfast and dinner does not list allergens on the food cards and there was no vegan option for dessert except for fruit. The positive is that it is in a fabulous location for Valletta as only takes 5 minutes to walk in.

Adjacent to the walled city with free garage though we walked to everything in the old city. Large, comfortable room with terrace overlooking the ancient city walls. Big bath w/separate tub. Great hotel services available.

I had a wonderful room with a huge and spacious terrace facing the Grand Harbour. Room was clean and was well stocked with amenities. Breakfast was a wonderful buffet spread with views of the harbour. Staff were very helpful and polite. Location was great - just 10 minutes walk to the old town of Valletta.

Die Unterkunft bietet tollen Service, sehr variantenreiches Frühstück, einen tollen Pool und in den meisten Zimmern eine traumhaften Aussicht. Auch wir hatten eine tolle Aussicht, jedoch auf der Seite zu einer Party/Hochzeitslocation hin, die JEDEN Abend bis 23 Uhr sehr sehr Laute Musik spielte. Generell muss man erwähnen, dass Feuerwerke, auch noch um 23 Uhr, in Valetta beim Feiern scheinbar keine Seltenheit sind - im Gegenteil, die gab es täglich. Mit Kindern sicher eine wichtige Information. Denn "Warten" bis die Schwelle von 23 Uhr erreicht ist, ist auch für Erwachsene nicht immer einfach.

A very grand building ,with a grand entrance, lobby and dining and bar facilities . The large pool and private beach were enjoyable . Our Delixe room was spacious with a very large terrace facing a spectacular Seaview. The furnishings were looking very tired and could do with an update .

The hotel was very good indeed. The eooms were spacious and comfortable, the pool area was lovely and well managed, the breakfasts excellent with plenty of choice, and the location great for access to central Valetta. The only improvement I would request is the check-in procedure. There was constantly a queue and some got drinks whilst waiting whilst others (like us) did not. Otherwise, it was excellent.

I really wanted to enjoy the time at the hotel since it was my choice for a Malta holiday with a friend. The shuttle service to the Valletta outskirts was not always running. I waited for 35 minutes in the heat of the mid-day sun (Thu 19 June) and ended up paying a taxi 15 Euros to take me back because I had heavy shopping. The provision of towels and robes in the bathroom was also hit and miss on 3 out of our 7 nights. We phoned to chase and then had to wait for the towels to arrive before being able to take a shower.On the last night my friend asked reception (Ibrahim) to book a waterfront table at Tiki restaurant. He said he would make the booking. We arrived at 19.30, gave them our room number and they had no reservation for us. They squeezed us in but it was not a waterfront table. My friend was angry. Later my friend paid the bill and when we got back to the room, I realised we had been overcharged for the wine. My friend went back down to the restaurant. They did not know how to credit her card or cancel the previous total and charge her the correct sum. They were apologetic but it was another example of poor training and management. Without exception all the staff were friendly and polite. They were not however, all efficient or adequately trained and managed. I am more easy going than my friend but I was disappointed that the hotel did not offer the 5 star experience we expected.

The rooms look like they could use updating. The style looked old and worn to me. The breakfast buffet had many options. The crepe omelet was awesome. Tamara at the business center was incredibly helpful and kind. Sephora at reception took the time to give us many suggestions for hiking. She was spot on!

Fantastic hotel, and wonderful staff. Besides the confusion around which floor to exit from (the Reception is on the 6th Floor), it was pretty easy to navigate our way around the hotel! We were kindly invited to a pre-dinner drinks at an area behind the hotel bar, speaking to senior staff and the owners as well. We loved it so much, and can't wait to go back!

Great location and free car park allowed us the freedom we wanted to explore the island in a rental car. Food and service very good. One gripe was we felt a concierge/doorman was needed to make sure people queued fairly for the shuttle bus. Taking 8 people every 20 mins meant on several occasions there was not room and people tended to push in because of this. The walk was fine and only took us 8 mins but lots of steps to negotiate for those with dodgy hips or knees

A fabulous hotel to stay at within 10min walk (up a hill) to the Tritons Fountain. The decor is grand and well loved, if not slightly worn. The 'Partial Ocean View" room looked towards the ocean, with a balcony and great views of the Bastions and towards Sliema. The buffet breakfast had excellent choices, and you can pay extra for fresh OJ and expresso. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall an excellent 4 days!

Good location to explore Malta and Valletta. Just outside the gates it’s easy to walk into Valletta. Going off to explore the rest of malta was easy too. Self parking garage for the car was nice. Breakfast buffet was good. Pool area is very nice, you can also swim in the sea. Suggestion: ask city to install a crosswalk on the main road in front of the hotel. The intersection is dangerous for pedestrians.

Il menù della colazione era vario ma senza glutine e lattosio non c’era alcuna offerta. Dolce niente, salato quasi tutto era contaminato o comunque molto grasso e pesante e speziato. Ho avuto solo pane surgelato e yogurt. Il ristorante dell’hotel idem, ho vomitato tutta la notte dopo aver provato il buffet. In generale l’hotel puzzava di cucinato e spezie , insostenibile. Il letto in compenso era Comodissimo e la camera molto spaziosa ma davvero datata negli arredi. Sembrava di stare negli anni 90. La piscina bella ma fredda per i miei gusti e senza personale a fornire asciugamani o assistenza di alcun tipo, nel complesso una potenziale bellissima struttura ma un po abbandonata e poca cura al cliente. Cibo scadente, odori insostenibile e aspetto scadente, a parte le decorazioni natalizie

This hotel was fine. It’s not five star (whatever they say) and it’s in need of a refurb (lots of scratches on the furniture, missing tiles in the pool, etc), but it did the job. I did find the service slow (my order at the bar was forgotten twice), and the wine I got as a VIP upgrade was undrinkable. They also replaced my towels every day despite my hanging them up - what a waste! Still, it was well-located and did the job.

The hotel was very good indeed. The eooms were spacious and comfortable, the pool area was lovely and well managed, the breakfasts excellent with plenty of choice, and the location great for access to central Valetta. This is a lovely hotel. and was meant to be the last stay of our trip. Unfortunately both of our kids got food poisoning after eating burgers ordered at the hotel pool and were extremely sick for about 12 hours each. We had to change our flights to a later date. The only options for staying at the hotel for longer was to move out of our room to two more expensive rooms so we opted to move to a AirBnB. Moving with sick kids is challenging. If you stay at this hotel, avoid eating at the pool!!

The hotel was lovely but the plumbing in our bathroom was very problematic with a toilet that didn’t flush properly. Somebody did have a look at it but it didn’t really improve things much. The breakfast buffet was excellent but the coffee was so strong it was undrinkable. A small but important issue!

Struttura bellissima, personale cordiale, mi ha deluso un po’ la colazione perché è concentrata solo al salato, infine visto il gran numero di italiani che alloggia in hotel credo sia il minimo dare il caffè espresso nella colazione, io preso una volta a colazione , 2 espressi 10€!
