OUTRIGGER Honua Kai Resort and Spa

Liked the pools, waterslide, view, beach, Duke's, sunset, staff was friendly, able to get towels at any time, we were able to get pool lounge chairs even though we got out late, bell service is fast, friendly, and courteous. Maintenance was fast, as well. We had an ocean view but it was just partial ocean view. We upgraded from mountain view. Overall, we had a great time.

The property was beautiful with 3 great but small pools for kids which adults could use them too. There was water slide and small water falls which kids and adults had so much fun with those. the beach was beautiful and easily accessible. I even could use the property wheelchair for one of my family members to go around ( actually just drop off and pick up though). We had one bedroom with queen sofa bed which we didn't like the sofa bed. Partial ocean view was really very tiny view of the ocean. But I will stay here another time as the property in general was great!

This place is awesome! Instant beach access however there is a lot of coral reef in the shallow parts. Watch your step! We saw some sea turtles right off the beach, make sure to wear your Maui Jims!

Beautiful property and resort rooms! Grounds were so pretty, well manicured, gorgeous beach front. Pools were amazing, so many of them and so spread out that they were never really crowded. Delightful,

The Honua Kai was like being home away from home. Everything was clean, comfortable and had most everything we would need. It was also conveniently located near food options and a grocery store. The beach was beautiful. We also appreciated the free parking. It was perfect for my family and I. It was the best place we've stayed at in Maui and we will most definitely return. The only complaint I have is that it was almost impossible to get a chair by the pool. There were always more towels on the chairs than there were people at the pool. That was quite frustrating as I never had a place to sit and would need to leave my items off to the side somewhere as I enjoyed the pool with my daughters.

Our family enjoyed the boardwalk that connected all the hotels by the beach, as it makes it easy for walking, running and exploring the area. We enjoyed the pool, especially the cabana and hot tubs. The beach is clean and so many areas to take a family photo. The staff is easy to find in the property if we needed to ask any questions. We like the property location as there is a grocery store nearby and we love cooking breakfast at the condo unit. The parking was easy for us and we never had any difficulty in finding a spot. We love that we could have a mountain view and ocean view plus we saw the full rainbow during our stay. We wish there were floaties for the pool provided by the condo unit. The A/C (we think) stops during the night because we woke up sweating - not sure if there was a timer. We recommend better pillows (more firm), same with the mattress. Overall, we enjoyed our vacation in this property. We would come back in the future. Thank you so much for making it a memorable vacation.

We had a great time at this resort. We loved the room and the amenities which included a kitchen and laundry. The pull out bed was comfortable for the kids, not just a thin pad. We loved that it was very close to the grocery store and many food options including a food truck lot (Duke's was right on the resort). The pools were great and access to the beach was right there as well. The fitness center was fairly big compared to other hotels. Free self parking was a big bonus as well. We would definitely come back to this resort.

Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Grounds were immaculate. Pools were fun for all age groups. The slide, wading areas, lazy river, quiet pool available for all. Great having the ocean a short distance away. The 2 bedroom ocean view was amazing.

Didn’t like that other guests are taking up all the loungers around the pool area and not adhering to the 1 hour limit policy in place Liked the central location of tbe resort to many attractions around it

Beautiful resort for families. Most staff is friendly. Rooms and bathrooms should get some remodel and fix ups. Hot tubs need repair as the tiles are falling off. Love the walk to the beach.

In all my travelling all of over the world, including 3rd world countries I have never experienced such problem, cockroaches were in the kitchen, they were in the bathroom, in the hotel hallways!!! We reported the problem to the hotel reception and were told that they cant move us and housekeeping is not available (they don't have their own housekeeping but contract another company) until the following day but meanwhile they will call engineering department. What we found when came back from the day on the beach is they they just blatantly put roach traps all over the bathroom and kitchen in the plain view!!! Of course the cockroaches were still everywhere, big and small, crawling out of cracks in the moldings like they lived in the walls. We could not even use the kitchen because we were so disgusted. Finally, the housekeeping arrived the next day and when i showed them the cockroaches the cleaning lady was very calm about it like it was not a big deal and just crushed one with her foot !The amazing part was how nonchalant everyone was about this. We have stayed in Maui in many hotels including Hyatt and Westin properties and have never had issues like that. The worst part is how management of the hotel handled it when at the check out we asked the manager for some kind of compensation for the ruined vacation experience. Manager named Audrey (or Aubrey) said the most they can do is refund us the resort fee $85/day and we are still waiting for it to happen 3 weeks later.

They had cockroaches in the kitchen. Many of them live and dead. They never gave us the resort hand band The sink in the kitchen was clogged

Great location. Great staff. Great amenities. Room wasn't spotless however we would 100% stay there again.

the housekeeping and cleanliness of the unit was dirty. dishes in cabinet had food stains. table tops are dirty.

Pros: Room was plenty big for my family of 5 and was well stocked with amenities. They had full kitchen, washer, and dryer. The pool area was very nice and my kids preferred it to the ocean because it was kept at a warmer temp and had the slide and waterfalls. It also was on the beach which was nice. Con: The big problem for me was the cockroaches in my room. I noticed them the second morning when one went running out from my shoe as I put it on. The staff was very nice and comp'ed my resort fee when I reported it, but I still had to deal with it for the remainder of my stay. Besides the pests, the rooms needed some work. All the metal fixtures were well worn with a good portion of them being rusty or having the nickel playing worn off. The room had been sloppily painted as well and there was paint on the bathroom mirrors and kitchen counter tops . But honestly, if it weren't for the pests I would rate this higher.

Employees and property were nice. Convenient location, stores near by and amenities at resort were great. Only downside was the roaches in the kitchen of our room.

Loved our 2 bedroom! The view was great besides seeing construction in front. Kids loved the walkable beach and all the pools. Staff was great! Only thing I didn’t like was the cockroaches in our room. All over the kitchen counter and bathroom. Also loved the washer and dryer but our dryer didn’t dry our clothes. Maintenance came but I didn’t see any change.

The view from our room was spectacular. The kitchen was dirty, had to clean several dishes to use them. Stove was very dirty. Otherwise the room was very nice. We had an issue with Valet refusing to park our car the first night and being rude also, but valet was great there after until our check out date, when valet couldn't locate our vehicle. Keys and vehicle were no where to be found. Had to leave for the airport in a taxi (hotel paid for) and had no idea how the rental car was going to be handled (manager gave assurances it would be handled but still felt uneasy about it).

Beautiful property but the rooms need work. I killed over 30 cockroaches on the first night and 40 overall. That was the highlight of my stay in that room. I had to sleep with the lights on for the entire trip just to keep the roaches from coming out in the dark

My family and I stayed here 6 years ago and it was really nice. We were very disappointed with our stay this time and will not return. The wifi was down the entire time which is very hard for teenagers. The kitchen seemed dirty. Two lamps were broken and we found several roaches in our room. Disgusting! Would expect more from a Motel 6. My daughter came home with several bug bites. Not what I would expect for the price we paid.

Beautiful resort with great amenities. We loved having the condo space and kitchen so we could have meals in the condo or go out if we wanted to. Pools were great, beach was amazing. The only thing I will say is the lighting in the condo was very dim. Those of us with eyes over 40 could use more light at night.

Beautiful condo hotel. Room very spacious and one of the most comfortable beds I ever slept in. Loved having a kitchen and laundry for second half of our trip. Only complaint was that there is no housekeeping which was not shown on the Hotels.com website and being there for 6 days that was a long time. Luckily the hotel gave us extra towels and emptied the garbage after a few days on request.

Right on the ocean. Great views and indoor-outdoor living with accordion door. Much smaller than anticipated.

The rooms are dated. No usb/c ports, a/c kept blowing the circuit breaker, parking was a nightmare, numeric door keypad battery went out, could not understand the announcement that came from the speakers in the room, but very nice staff.

We booked an ocean view studio and that was not available when we checked in. We were given a one bedroom studio with a Mountain View instead. To compensate, we were given a $70/night refund. Our room balcony was closed because the hotel exterior was being painted. We could not go out there between 8am and 5pm daily. I loved the pool area and easy access to the beach. It was nice to have drink and food service provided by Dukes. Parking can be difficult if you get back after 8pm. If there are no spots left, you can go park by the villas or the other building’s lot which isn’t incredibly far, but just really not fun after a long day. The proximity to everything within Kaanapali was great. Some units have a bbq grill on their balcony. my only real gripe about staying here was that the hot water within our room was very limited. Only one person could take a shower before the water became luke warm.

Loved the Honua Kai, highly recommend an ocean view unit. Beach is fabulous and we saw whales everyday!

Beautiful, spacious rooms with a great view of the ocean. The pools were a little small but it was not crowded when we were there so it was fine.

Loved the room and the property overall. But our specific 2 bedroom unit’s “king bed” was awful. It was two twins put together and you could sink into the middle of it. Headboard not attached so it would hit the wall if you shifted around in bed. Wife slept extremely poorly. Kitchen sink became clogged at one point but maintenance came within 20 min to fix it, which was great. Pools were excellent and clean. Nice sandy beach but steep shore break. Seriously bed was so uncomfortable I would not stay here again. Fix the bed and we would rate this place very highly.

The room was spacious and had a nice kitchen with all the amenities. We appreciated that we could request fresh towels and supplies during our stay. The two things that I would like to suggest are new washers and dryers. They did not work well at all!! Also, the TVs need to be upgraded to smart TVs. Basic channels were not sufficient. Otherwise, it was a wonderful week in Maui!

Our second time staying here, we had a great vacation. This is the perfect family resort. It is safe, clean, has great pools and a nice beach. The units are nice - we got placed next in a room next to an elevator shaft which kept making very loud and ominous noises every time it was used (so, every few minutes) but the reception staff were accommodating and allowed us to switch rooms to another available unit. We appreciated that - for future travellers I would make sure to ask if your room shares a wall right next to an elevator. We look forward to coming back again.

Tried to book a massage for 3 days only got voicemail and no return call, front desk was no help. Left something at hotel after I checked out and asked if they could mail to me they said no, also had issue with cabana.

Room was not ready at scheduled check in. Granted it was ready a few minutes after - after a long flight with kids you kind of expect a 4pm check in is ready at 330. Not here. It was ready at 415. That’s not bad but there was no real apology or explanation. Customer service from the management is poor. Grounds are pretty and rooms nice but staff is not very welcoming. Aloha is a bit of a myth here. Better employees in Mexican hotels. I’d stay here again because the beach and pool are nice but it’s expensive as hell and staff aren’t all that hospitable.

I was told that our room would be available for early check in. As I checked in, the host told us we can’t check in until 4pm. had I known it wouldn’t be ready I wouldn’t have arrived earlier. the communication with the agent I had talked to lied and it made me look dumb. They told me they would text me when it was ready. They called me to tell me the room that was given to us is not going to be ready and they’d give us a different room. From 11am when I first called until 4pm..the room was still not cleaned. How does that make any sense? communication was horrible.

We were supposed to have had a house rented, but just hours before out arrival the host canceled on us… we found this place and upon our arrival we were treated like royalty! Lile, the hotel manager made sure that we were completely taken care of. The entire staff was the absolute beat and the property is as close to heaven as it gets! Thanks to everyone on site!!!

Horrible service & unfriendly staff. They tried to downgrade our room by giving us discount & free breakfast. Room was horribly affected by scaffolding, couldn’t even open patio door. Then have the nerve to be upset when we did not want to keep the room. FYI they also do not clean the rooms like regular housekeeping. The price does not justify what you get, never staying here again.

We liked having our home base at Honua Kai for our Maui vacation. There was a grocery and multiple restaurant options nearby as well as the food truck park which was great, easy access to the beach walk, and the pools were multiple and it was usually easy to find chairs.

Great location. Great staff. Great amenities. Room wasn't spotless however we would 100% stay there again.

This hotel exceeded expectations. I walked the boardwalk and it felt less crowded than the other hotels. It had nice beachfront restaurants to walk to and a fun food truck court. The only thing is that when you walk out to the beach area, its rocky soo bring water shoes. Or, walk about 5 min down the beach where the water is less rocky. Cant say enough good things about our family stay here. It was perfect.

Great resort for the entire family. Market, dining, & beach within walking distance. Only complaint is wish the pool slide was open longer.

Good location and well maintained property. Though Duke is a great restaurant nearby but doesn't have great options.

Pros: Family Friendly, but quiet at night and pools were amazing for all the kiddies. Not too crowded either. The cabanas were very helpful, however they are getting a bit old and worn. We use them several times. Cons: Not enough food options, Duke's is really more of a bar for adults and the food is not what w3 expected and very expensive, even though it is on the beach. Very limited restaurants close by our actual hotel, and did not have their own bar or restaurant in the hotel. Nearby store was limite for food options. I think they really need to upgrade food availablilty. When they had a recent tsunami warning, they shut down the FEW food places. They should have better emergency plans for their guests as they need food.

Very enjoyable stay. The facilities were very clean and well maintained. Beach is amazing. Feels very safe. Boardwalk is a nice hike. Onsite store has everything but needs more counter staff. Dinner reservations need to be made weeks in advance.

Honua Kai is nice, the grounds are immaculate. It’s right on Ka’anapali Beach, which is pretty, don’t know how safe that swimming is. The only cons about Honua Kai is a persistent sewage smell, not sure if there is a drain field on the property (I think there is in the center lawn between towers) and dining options. Duke’s has good food, but you have to make reservations days head of time. Other than that, Honua Kai was a great stay.

This was one of the best family-friendly hotels on Maui. It's really close to the beach (you walk 1/2 block from the pool, and your feet will be on the sand). I appreciated the fact that even though it's a condo (large, spacious, equipped with kitchenette, lanai, and washer and dryer), there was no requirement to wash all the dishes, towels, and dispose of the garbage before checking out. We still did it b/c it's a nice thing to do, but it was nice to know that it wasn't required. The staff is great (and they do have security in the daytime to check for wristbands- required if you want to be in the pool). However, in the evening (past 9 pm), it's a skeleton crew (one person at the front desk) and there's nobody in the housekeeping or bell desk. Duke's Restaurant is on the property (next to pool). Best time to go is after 8 pm, after the sun has set, and you can enjoy a cocktail on the patio with the tiki torches around you. My kids loved the waterslide and the cave area in the pool (there were so many pools). They have morning activities for free for guests (hulu dancing for example). Love it.

The property is absolutely stunning and the staff were very accommodating to anything we needed. There was plenty to do around the resort as well, and they have a great restaurant right on campus, Dukes. We can’t wait to come back!

The music at Dukes was thoroughly enjoyable as one sat by any of the 3 pools. The service is respectful and accommodating. Some of the patio loungers were broken and likely should have been removed. The Aina gourmet shop closed when we were there resulting in an inconvenience for some. Hopefully another similiar shop will open soon.

Beautiful resort. Friendly and helpful staff. The pools need some attention and could use some cleaning. The room we were in (2bdrm/2bth/ocean view/7th floor) could use a new mattress in the master with a fitted sheet that actually fits. A little more shower scrubbing won’t hurt. It’ll help kill the shower mildew smell. Food trucks near by was the best, because Duke’s is horrible. Not real island food btw. Definitely liked this place.
