Liked the place. Great showers! Don't bother with the breakfast no matter how cheap it is, just get couple things from the convince store nearby. Owner was rude but facilities were above average.

We needed help with Yamato transport and they helped with the forms. The breakfast in the lobby was super convenient and location across from the train station was perfect. Laundry, toiletries, coin exchange all available here. We had our own bathroom so either standard hotel or traditional hostel options.

Pros: enough room for a large party. My room had 5 beds and this amount of space for this many people is hard to come by in Tokyo. Cons: The restroom on the lobby area and the immediate kitchen area smelled like a dirty rag. Also, the toilet "rooms" on our floor were too small. They felt almost like airplane lavatories. I understand since this place is a "hostel" they need to separate the wash areas/showers/toilets, but they feel a bit cramped. Overall, I guess the pros for this place outweigh the cons. If you are looking for a decent-priced hotel for a large group, this is the place.

We were a family of 5 and lucked out with a private room for 6 with a private bathroom. Although small we made it work.it helped that we had an extra unused bed to lay out some luggage. We brought some string to hang our clothes. The laundry in the building helped us alot. We only did the breakfast once as we really wanted traidtional japanese food for breakfast but the buffet served bread, fruit and eggs with coffee. The location really worked for us.lots of resturants and shops close by and Ueno Station is just across the street. Would stay again

Overall, it’s not a hostel I would revisit or recommend. The first floor lobby/common area is really small, and barely any amenities except dining area… The room smells from day 1 and it hasn’t changed since. Also, they charge breakfast that serves egg and bread for 770yen, food was terrible and worse meal I had in Japan. Staffs is also not great at communicating, and they look at you like they have no idea what you’re talking about. The floor was suppose to be female only, and they noted that there might be male staff during cleaning hours from 11-4. That’s not true because I was getting ready with my roommate at around 9am, suddenly there was a male “staff” literally walking pass us… we were in shocked and it was not something we expected. From the hostel I stayed, this is NOT recommended!

Ótima hospedagem para o viajante econômico. Excelente localização ao lado da Estação de Ueno. Ótimo atendimento pela equipe da recepção. Quartos e demais áreas limpos, cama confortável e ambiente silencioso. O local também oferece uma área para refeição e/ou trabalho. Internet grátis excelente.

We are a family of four with two teenage kids so we needed four beds. The dorm style living was great and very reasonably priced. The shared bathrooms were very clean and we'll kept and while the room is compact it was big enough for us as the room has a fifth bed area which could be used to sit and chill. I selected it based on proximity to the train station and while it close, the emarest entrance is a couple minutes away, you actually have to walk another 4-5 to get to the actual station entrance. Still not too bad but not as close as it seems on the map. Also the immediate surrounding area is devoid of anything so you have to walk back to the station to find restaurants and stuff. I'd still stay here again and the actual property is very good.

The staff is so helpful, not sure his name is, but he was a big help for us when we left by calling the taxibto take us to Kensei station. We have many big suitcases to carry, he helped us bringing them to the taxi as well. He's genuinely nice! The hotel/hostel is a walking distance to JR station, very accessible to transportation and stores. The room is clean and well maintained.

Its a hostel so it is what you expect. If you are a lifht sleeper you may have trouble until the train service ends. You can't get any more central to Ueno for sure.

We enjoyed our stay. It was very close to the train station, Ueno Park, restaurants, and shopping areas. The room was a little small but it had everything we needed to make it an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

We were really happy with our stay here that we stayed here both at the beginning of our trip and at the end when we came back to Tokyo before we flew back home. We were a family of 5 and lucky enough to book the private room for 6. We used the extra bed to lay out our suitcases. While there wasn't any place to sit except for our beds it provided us with a nice comfortable place to sleep after being out all day. We also liked hanging out on the main floor of the hotel if we wanted more room. Highly recommend this place! Glad we chose Ueno as our home base in Tokyo as transportation from the airport or anywhere in the city was so easy from there.

Good place to stay as it's quite near the train station where you can access both subway and JR lines. Also near Keisei Skyliner station for easy trip to and from Narita airport. Not too expensive but good value. The beds were quite firm though and caused me some back pain.

Grids Hotel + Hostel is in a great location for visiting Tokyo. Conveniently located across the street from Ueno Station and a very short walk to Ueno Park with the zoo and a lot of other attractions. Popular places like Akihabara and Asakusa are a very walkable distance away. The room we booked had 4 beds, an en-suite bathroom, and not much else more. It's a place to sleep but not big enough to just lounge around. There's no table, nor is there room for one. There is a kettle but no coffee mugs so plan ahead if you are a coffee drinker. The staff were incredible kind and welcoming. They held onto our luggage for us so we could go exploring prior to check-in.

The room is clean. However, it is extremely small. There is no table in the room. Not enough space to open 2 lugguages which are only 25 inches. Moreover, the mattress and pillows are too soft. We can't sleep well throughout the night.

We have many big suitcases to carry, he helped us bringing them to the taxi as well. He's genuinely nice! The hotel/hostel is a walking distance to JR station, very accessible to transportation and stores. The room is clean and well maintained.
The staff is so helpful, not sure his name is, but he was a big help for us when we left by calling the taxibto take us to Kensei station. Its a hostel so it is what you expect. If you are a lifht sleeper you may have trouble until the train service ends. You can't get any more central to Ueno for sure.

We enjoyed our stay. It was very close to the train station, Ueno Park, restaurants, and shopping areas. The room was a little small but it had everything we needed to make it an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

We are a family of four with two teenage kids so we needed four beds. The dorm style living was great and very reasonably priced. The shared bathrooms were very clean and we'll kept and while the room is compact it was big enough for us as the room has a fifth bed area which could be used to sit and chill. I selected it based on proximity to the train station and while it close, the emarest entrance is a couple minutes away, you actually have to walk another 4-5 to get to the actual station entrance. Still not too bad but not as close as it seems on the map. Also the immediate surrounding area is devoid of anything so you have to walk back to the station to find restaurants and stuff. I'd still stay here again and the actual property is very good.

Good place to stay as it's quite near the train station where you can access both subway and JR lines. Also near Keisei Skyliner station for easy trip to and from Narita airport. Not too expensive but good value. The beds were quite firm though and caused me some back pain.

Grids Hotel + Hostel is in a great location for visiting Tokyo. Conveniently located across the street from Ueno Station and a very short walk to Ueno Park with the zoo and a lot of other attractions. Popular places like Akihabara and Asakusa are a very walkable distance away. The room we booked had 4 beds, an en-suite bathroom, and not much else more. It's a place to sleep but not big enough to just lounge around. There's no table, nor is there room for one. There is a kettle but no coffee mugs so plan ahead if you are a coffee drinker. The staff were incredible kind and welcoming. They held onto our luggage for us so we could go exploring prior to check-in.

There are many of tourist groups with guide and quite noisy at the lobby in the morning. I paid for bf but couldn’t get the proper table and seat because of group tour reservations. Even they didn’t come down and empty table. We have to sit wiggly table and squeeze each other. However the family room was really fun and nice

I cannot say enough good things about this place. My special needs son got lost in Tokyo the very first night. The GRIDS staff were so helpful in helping us through the 20 hour ordeal, all the way down to running more than a block to ensure I had the passports needed to collect my lost child. The breakfast was good. The room was small, but cozy and met all our needs. It was the staff that just made my stay exceptional.

We needed help with Yamato transport and they helped with the forms. The breakfast in the lobby was super convenient and location across from the train station was perfect. Laundry, toiletries, coin exchange all available here. We had our own bathroom so either standard hotel or traditional hostel options.

Location is awesome. Unfortunately, the futon mattresses and pillows were very tired and worn and super uncomfortable hence my rating. I wasn’t expecting super comfortable it was a futon after all, but these were so worn out that it felt like sleeping in a hole, with mountains on both sides. I have spent many nights on a therma-rest and other futons, but these very much needed replacing. The breakfast was super basic and usually not enough space to even get at it or sit down as the hostel hosts large tour groups of young travellers. The room was clean and relatively quiet.

Overall, it’s not a hostel I would revisit or recommend. The first floor lobby/common area is really small, and barely any amenities except dining area… The room smells from day 1 and it hasn’t changed since. Also, they charge breakfast that serves egg and bread for 770yen, food was terrible and worse meal I had in Japan. Staffs is also not great at communicating, and they look at you like they have no idea what you’re talking about. The floor was suppose to be female only, and they noted that there might be male staff during cleaning hours from 11-4. That’s not true because I was getting ready with my roommate at around 9am, suddenly there was a male “staff” literally walking pass us… we were in shocked and it was not something we expected. From the hostel I stayed, this is NOT recommended!
