Galois Hotel Shinokubo

Really enjoyed our stay here for the Tokyo marathon. Clean, well maintained hotel. The start line for the marathon was walkable and there were loads of affordable restaurants nearby. The staff were friendly and the room had everything we needed with fresh towels and water bottles delivered to our door each morning. The coffee machine at reception was handy and we got to keep our slippers as a nice souvenir.

Excellent location right near the train station and walkable distance to Shinjuku. The small hot tub/onsen was very nice! I used it everyday and really helped after a whole day of walking. Staff are very nice and lots of extra goodies such as toothbrushes etc. Rooms in Japan are very small unless you spend big bucks on hotels that offer bigger rooms. So don’t be shocked when your room is smaller than what your normally used too. I stayed in a hotel in Osaka and it was much smaller.

It’s super convenient as it’s only a few minutes walk to the train station and there’s so many restaurants and convenient stores below. The rooms are clean but they are very small, you can only open one big suitcase and walk around. The bathroom is also super small, so if you don’t mind how small it is, I would recommend it. They also have a small public onsen for their guests, a coin operated laundry machine and an O2 room (never used that so no idea) located near reception.

Very convenient location in terms of transportation, the subway is a 3 min walk away. Great amenities like laundry, public bath and bathroom hygiene products. Super clean and would recommend if you’re in Tokyo.

This is a great value hotel hidden behind a restaurant in the Korean area of Tokyo. It felt safe and friendly and was much quieter than being in Shinjuku itself, yet was only a few hundred metres from a subway stop that let us access the whole city and surrounding area. The rooms were compact but comfortable and well styled, looking recently decorated, with pristine bathroom facilities and a pleasant shower. The breakfast was a set meal rather than a buffet prepared freshly on arrival by the chef. They were amenable to us being vegetarian and made us a variety of different types of eggs served with vegetables and potatoes, with salad, fruit, toast, cereal, yoghurt and a little cupcake in little side dishes. Reception offered use of a microwave, as well as ice and coin operated washing machines and driers. There is also a small onsen for each gender. The ladies had a nice clean changing room with lockers and then a set of washing stations and a single hot pool about eight foot by six. Both times I used it I was the only person there and it felt very private and luxurious, but it would quickly feel crowded with a group. It has no natural light and you can hear the trains come and go in the background through the ventilation, but this didn’t spill a lovely experience. Staff were kind but unobtrusive, and the place was meticulously cleaned and maintained. Security was good too (you needed a room key to use the lift beyond reception and could only access your own floor).

Considering the lower price point of this hotel, the facilities and cleanliness of this hotel exceeded our expectations. The hotel had an onsen that we enjoyed every night after a long day of walking.

Hotel was in a great area! Close to lots of entertainment and shopping. Close to major transit lines. Room was quite small compared to other rooms on our trip to Japan. The onsite onset was great!

This property is excellent. The staff are always very helpful, it’s so close to the Yamanote Line station. It’s close enough you can walk or ride the train to Shinjuku but far enough that you don’t hear noises at night. There’s food options and stores close by, there’s laundry faculty, a public bath and the rooms have tatami mats. Enough space you can move without bumping. Theres breakfast in the morning. Check out is at a later time too!

Stayed here again for our 2nd leg of our visit. For a couple, rooms with one single large bed is definitely better ~ more comfortable and more space to move around. Similarly, room was tidy and clean, and customer service was good. *Don't think breakfast was provided so the rating on that is irrelevant.

Perfect 3-night stay to end our 2 week trip in Japan. This was probably the most spacious room we had during the entire trip. Wish they provided more pillows though. They have coffee and tea at the lobby. Only a 2 mins walk to the train station which was convenient. Close to restaurants and dessert places. Will definitely stay here again!

This hotel has very small rooms but was clean and super conveniently close to the Shin Okubo train station! Also, by lots of resturants and shops! Would recommend!

Location was fantastic, walking distance to Shinjuku, plenty of shopping and places to eat nearby. Comfy beds, small rooms. Elevator stopping at floor 2 every time you need to go up was annoying but would stay here again.

Room too small and air not fresh

Way more space than we expected for Japan, and just what we needed for a nice place to sleep each evening. My fiancée is quite tall so his knees touched the bathroom door while sitting on the toilet, but there’s not much to be done about that. The shower was great!

I did not like that they charge me 2000 yen for a lost key which is a plastic card that costs then nothing

Perfect location to start our Japan trip, just a two minute walk across from train station. Room was small, but as expected. Clean. The robes/pjs were a nice added touch. Housekeeping was provided. Must return all room keys or you will incur 2,000 yen surcharge. Would gladly stay here again.

This was a great place to move around Tokyo easily. Close to the JR station. The team was nice and helpful despite the language barrier, they were always patient with us.

Hotel ist sehr nah an der Yamanote Line. Sonst ist das Viertel aber nicht so schön. Das Hotel sieht sehr modern aus und ist auch gut ausgestattet.

People are hanging around at night not respecting Japanese traditions they are littering and loitering in the area, smoking in the street and disrespectful to Japanese females

I'm so glad we stayed at Galois hotel Shin-Okubo. This hotel is in a fantastic location, a 2min walk from Shin-Okubo station, a 15min walk from the Godzilla head and 18mins from Omoide Yokocho. It's also in a quiet enough street that you can sleep peacefully. There's a 7eleven around the corner too which is really handy if you just want a snack or something. The hotel has a public bath which was a life saver!! We walked pretty much everywhere we could, only taking the train for locations further out so being able to just relax in the public bath after a long day was simply perfect. One thing to note, it's not normal to wear a swimsuit or bikini when you go in. Luckily for me it was pretty quiet so I always had it to myself but just be prepared for this if you do decide to use it. There are some free amenities too like toothbrush, face oil, hairbands etc. And a coffee/hot water machine in reception. You get free pjs, a fresh towel and a bottle of water every day. The staff were super friendly and helpful too !! The room is small but that is to be expected in Tokyo. The bed had a wall on 3 sides (we stayed in a double). There were 3 hangers and a desk in the room, a small bathroom with a small but deep bath/shower and a toilet. Despite being small, it was still very comfortable. My partner found the mattress a little too firm but it was perfect for me so it depends on your preference.

Staff are friendly. Three minutes walk to the train station. A lot of options to dine. Train ride to Shibuya, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Ueno, Electronic city are all one train ride away.

Staff were great, location perfect. Close to everything but removed so it was quiet/calm on our street. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Restaurant food was amazing and the staff were so warm and welcoming. Would highly recommend.

部屋のきれいさ、大浴場、山手線横にありながらの防音など設備は申し分ないと思います。これで朝食サービスがあれば文句なし、なのですがコンビニも吉牛も近いですし対応はできます。アメニティの販売制は先進的ですが歯ブラシ20円で一般品ではなく、200円で高機能品とかにしたほうがおもしろいと思いました。

This property is very nice and the staff were excellent. The onsite restaurant was one of our best dining experiences of our trip.

The stay was comfortable enough, though I was slightly mislead on the size of the bathtub from the photos. It is not a soak tub. Also breakfast was not offered. Overall it was a nice stay.
