Entire stay was wonderful. Staff goes above and beyond and is so friendly! Room was very comfortable and very clean; in-room coffee maker was the best! We took advantage of the bikes available at the hotel. It was so easy getting around town with the bikes! The location of this hotel is just perfect. So close to all the museums and the National Mall and The Wharf with over 15 different restaurants right on the water. Overall we had an excellent stay and if we ever make it back to DC we will definitely come stay at the Salamander again!

Nice hotel. I planned the trip thinking the shuttle would be able to take me to the landmarks I was hoping to visit. The shuttle was out of service and no one could tell me how long it would be that way. Disappointing, as that was part of the draw for me to stay there. Instead I had to Uber everywhere. Would have been nice to receive some sort of credit for the inconvenience. Maybe they should also update their website to reflect that shuttle service is not an option right now. Overall the stay was nice and the room was beautiful, especially the bathroom. For a 5star hotel, the pool and fitness center were lackluster. However, it seemed the fitness center may still be undergoing some construction. Also, $79 for valet seemed excessive.

Once we arrived and got checked in the stay was wonderful. We were delayed arriving due to severe weather and they had to reactivate our reservation which was a little concerning. The facilities were excellent, we used the indoor pool twice during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. The only real complaint we had was the cost of breakfast our first morning, the only time we ate at the hotel. It cost us over $100.00 for a buffet that did not have much of a selection, rather disappointed in that. Otherwise the stay was terrific.

The lounge is comfortable and spacious. The rooms are large, quiet and exceptionally maintained. If you like to work out, the resort has a great gym. I encountered friendly, professional staff throughout the resort especially the valet, in room dining, spa and restaurant staff.

The hotel is fantastic. The cleanliness unfortunately lacked. When i walked into the room, sadly the 1st thing i saw. Instead of the stunning view. Was the dirty windows. Then the pillow case had black smudes on it. The tile around the toilet very urine stained. Stunning view tho.

The Tidal Basin is just across the street from the hotel, and the hotel has its own private bridge across the street to the Tidal Basin, which is in a great location to view the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin and go to the National Mall. The service staff is very friendly, and the hotel is tastefully decorated, clean and warm. The room is large and overlooks the Tidal Basin from the window.We came to see the cherry blossoms this time with my elderly mother. The hotel is very conveniently located for my mother in a wheelchair to visit the Tidal Basin.

Room has an unclean odor, tub looks nasty, I wouldn’t sit in it; shower looks disgusting, thankfully I have my shower shoes, room needs obvious makeover. Loved this hotel. Can’t wait to come back. The rooms were very clean including the washrooms. First time being in a hotel where the washroom was actually cleaned as well and didn’t feel dirty! Amazing staff, loved my stay and will be booking another one very soon

We arrived at the hotel and, upon entering the room and placing my bag on the coffee table, I noticed debris on the carpet—it was dried mud all around the bed and footprints on the table. I immediately contacted housekeeping around 2:30 PM and asked them to vacuum the carpet. They assured me they would be there shortly, but they never showed up. I cleaned the coffee table! It wasn’t until the following day that I had to go to the front desk in person to have my room cleaned. It’s unacceptable to be given a dirty room—both from a hygiene standpoint and as a matter of the hotel’s ethics. This was a very unpleasant experience.

Had some kind of plastic under the sheet that made it very hot, plus the air conditioning was not able to keep the room temperature down to a reasonable level despite being set on maximum cooling and fan. Extremely hot and uncomfortable during the night. Other than that, good stay, but expected better for the high price.

On arrival lights didn’t work. Moved to another room next day, couldn’t fault it, view of Jefferson Memorial (as requested) higher floor & fizz, cake & hand made chocolates left in room. Terrible experience. Called and asked for early check in— no one called back and when we got there our room wasn’t ready for an hour AFTER normal check in time. We were two hours late to our show because of it. Then I requested that the sofa bed be made up at 8p— we came back and it wasn’t done. Cool. No one came to make it up so we just did it our selves. They advertised 24 hour room service. Sat on hold for an hour, for someone to take my order and then 45 minutes after we ordered they called back to say that the kitchen was closed for cleaning. Terrible service for the price!

Booked two rooms for one night via Expedia and had to extend our stay. They extended our stay at their rates, substantially higher that Expedia and when asked for them to match the price, they declined because there are no rooms available and Expedia is displaying the wrong information. Manager Eskodar at the front desk was rude and noted that “we’re lucky they extended our stay” because the rooms on Expedia don’t exist. Horrible customer service for a manager to tell me that I’m lucky to stay at the property - how about thank you for staying with us - should be retrained.

The guest experience at this beautiful hotel really exceeded my expectations. Mr. Gonzalo Patino ( Front Office Mgr) who was very kind and empathetic patiently listened to my grievances and within a few minutes, solved the problem. I have to mention by name some of the wonderful staff like Sabrina & Alexandra who made my checking in and checking out a breeze. To Malik, Dewayne who carefully handled my luggage (even though I changed my room) and Felipe you always had a smile at the door and greeted me going in and coming out to Dolly and Natalia, who served me at the dining area (delicious breakfast)with such grace and poise thank you all for being AMAZING.

The Salamander is an oasis of comfort and luxury. We looked forward to returning to our room in the evening each night after a full day of sightseeing at the Smithsonian museums. The location is absolutely perfect if your intention is to museum-hop during the day, enjoy a leisurely dinner at the Wharf and rest up for yet another day of exploration. We loved it!

We really enjoyed our stay at Salamander. Room was very nice and everything looked new. Food was good but a bit expensive. The hotel has a great location, you can walk to the wharf on one side and the all the monuments on the other, and you also have two Metro stations really close. A great option to stay in DC.

The windows are almost soundproof. The view of the water allowed us to see the fireworks (and we didn’t hear them). The bed and sheets were wonderful. The Dogon restaurant is Amazing!

All of the staff were very attentive and responsive when we had issues. The hotel was walkable to the wharf, tidal basin and museums. It was kid friendly (staff was so sweet to our 1 year old, supplied crib and baby toiletries and had small play room). Our main issue was that it felt like the hotel’s dining options catered to people not staying at the hotel and we were never able to eat in lobby/on terrace. As a result, We ended up having to spend a lot on room service as the main walkable restaurants were on the wharf, and while there is a pedestrian walkway, it requires you to carry stroller up and down two flights of stairs, which we weren’t always in the mood to do.

Very posh hotel clearly targeting the business professionals of DC. The staff and service are great. Room had a few issues but the view of the river was perfect. Did not get a chance at dinner but menu seemed very nice. Breakfast buffet was not great and very overpriced.

Melody had talked to my mother and travel partner for this trip about our questions prior to going. She met us at check in and it was a great addition to all of the very friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was ok but not worthy of the cost in my opinion.

The hotel is nicely located near the National Mall, but at the far end. It's also very well located in walking distance to the Washington Marina which has dozens of choices for restaurants. Slightly disappointed in the restaurant/bar. The food was very expensive, including breakfast, and the service was slow when we used the outside seating for the bar.

Wonderful location, clean and comfortable rooms. Food terribly overpriced- do NOT get the Breakfast Buffet!!! We waited 35 minutes for a table and then We paid $172 for 2 adults and 2 children, the options were very limited and everything was lukewarm warm! By the time we got back to our table everything but the oatmeal and coffee was COLD. We had to ask our server if we could heat up our plates, cold eggs, cold bacon, cold potatoes….cold waffles. The manager said they had asked the kitchen for a fresh refill for the buffet…..after another 20+ minutes of waiting for that food it finally came out, we could have gone anywhere else and paid less for a hot timely meal….it really ruined our impression of this hotel as it was our 1st time staying.

Such a beautiful location and hotel in general. The staff were super friendly. We were staying for five nights so they learned our faces and recognized us as we came and went. The location was a 5 minute walk from The Wharf so we were able to have a great dining experience every night.

Markus the Valet/Doorman was so friendly and kind to our family, enjoyed seeing him as we were coming and going from the hotel. Great spot, staff super nice and helpful. Traveled with children, first time visiting the DC area. We will come back again. Also they provided us with their Lexus for a 3 hour drive around the area, including complimentary tour to the Smithsonian museums. The best!

I stayed at this DC hotel when it was still the Mandarin Oriental. The location is ideal, the a/c is great but Salamander is not as clean and well-managed as the Mandarin Oriental was. I booked this Salamander DC hotel room a year ago knowing our Semiquincentennial would be a very busy time. Our first hotel room was not clean, the BATHROOM DIRTY & UNSANITARY. THERE WAS OLD URINE ON THE TOILET WHEN YOU LIFTED UP THE TOILET SEAT AS WELL AS BY THE BIDET HANDLE AREA. DISGUSTING. Totally unacceptable for a supposedly 5 star luxury hotel that describes itself as "refined" & "elegant", esp given the amount of money we were planning to spend/spending/spent. Needless to say the old urine was not reassuring, I wondered how clean the bed sheets, bathtub, etc. were. Waited 35 min.s but it was nice of Joelle to get us a different room. Still, bathroom cleaning was inconsistent AND SUB-PAR. Short cuts are unacceptable in luxury hotels; cleaning department doesn't seem to understand clean, luxury or the expectation they should move cleaning carts out of the way for guests.
