Sands Motel

For the price you definately get what you pay for. the rooms are very clean and very spacious. They allow pets for free, which is amazing. My only two complaints were that one the beds are super hard and uncomfortable, I could not sleep on them. The second complaint is that there is a giant area to walk your dogs, but beware, there are burs everywhere, and my poor dogs feet and paws were covered in them.

The room was clean and the A/C was working well. There is no pet area but my dog and I were able to manage things.

The staff was very friendly, and allowed us an early check-in. Located directly on the railroad tracks, expect noise throughout the night. This is clearly a project taken on by the new owner. It's an old motel. But the project seems to be to change the place into a nice place. Although old, very clean. Simple rooms, but cozy. This will be a nice place to stay. Can't argue with the price, and they charged us zero pet fee. Restaurants just across the street.

It’s not much to look at from the outside but the room was clean. The dog area is pretty much nonexistent but I made it work.

Tub wouldn't drain, pulled a big glob of hair and cigarette butts out of it.

The room was terribly dirty - the floors were filthy and dusty the end tables had sticky spots that were half wiped off, the bathroom faucet had spatters from the previous occupants, the shower had bits of previous bars of soap on the floor, and the water was unbearably hot, we weren't able to shower. The stained mattress was only covered with a flat sheet, that wasn't even tucked in, there was no mattress pad or fitted sheet. The room reeked of old cigarette smoke.

The place is falling apart. Bath tub was gross. No shampoo

Beds were good but pretty much everything else was terrible! Dirty bathroom and sink area, broken shelf, dirty AC unit, dirty curtains.

The room was old and bare bones. I expected this, but upon entering despite the strong odor of cleaning supplies it was not clean. There was napkins on the floor under the edge of the bed, something smeared on the bedside table, large stains on the sheets, and there was orange build up on the shower curtain. The room was in more disrepair than expected, the clothes shelf was broken off the wall, the flooring was lift and curling around the fridge, the bathtub/shower did not have a knob to turn it on and the sink didnt work leaving me we no running water for the night. When i departed in the morning there was no one in the office so i could not inform them of my issues. I called after leaving and let them know i left the key in the box (that literally anyone could take it out of) and to let them know about the sink. The guy who answered the phone seemed annoyed at the phone call. I would not stay here again.

This is an old hotel and shows its age. However, it was clean, in pretty good repair, smelled fresh, and had hot water. We got there late and left early. It did the job.

The place was absolutely filthy. No keys to the room. Master key only. I was told I would have to contact the front desk to go in and out my room. The room was dirty. The mattress was terrible. There was only one towel. The place needs to be burned down. False advertising. The place is pathetic. I want a refund.

Please refund my money. We didn’t stay because the bug and hair that I found in the sheets and the used soap and hair in the shower. There is mold on the bathroom ceiling as well.

Room wasn't clean, I could see stains on the counter tops as well as the bed sheets. The floor was extremely dirty, and it seemed like it wasn't mopped at all for a long time.

I rate this overall excellent because for the price, it was great. The room was in okay condition. It had a new sink. The beds were comfortable. The internet wasn’t great. It worked sometimes, but not always. It had a gas station and restaurant near. Area seemed fine, not unsafe at all. Again for the price, you can’t beat it. I would book more basic hotels for this price if they were available

I saw that the office was supposed to be open until midnight. I tried calling and sending them a message to confirm that because we were getting in at 11pm ish. No answer. I get there a few minutes before 11pm and the office is closed. I called numbers they had listed on the front door. The first didn’t answer, the second number did. A girl came out of a room and knocked on another door and a man came out to help me. He gave me a key card and told me my room number and that was it. We went to the room and there were hairs on one of the pillows, the floor was filthy, the shower was stained, and the walls in the bathroom had some kind of yellow smears. We slept on top of the made beds in our sleeping bags. It was super noisy because the motel is located behind a truck stop. So lots of loud horns randomly throughout the night. Kinda felt unsafe. I don’t recommend staying here unless it’s an absolute emergency.

The staff was super friendly. She got me into a room where the key card actually worked. Tv only had 3 through 12 but it worked.

Only 2 electrical outlets in the whole room and they were partially blocked by an immovable table. I had to unplug the TV and refrigerator to charge our phones. Also, would have been nice to have 2 chairs instead of one for the table. Also, no trash receptacles in the room, trash had to be taken outside. Room was clean and comfortable however.

For the price, couldn’t have been better! The only thing was the lack of outlets!! Only two outlets in the room. And neither around the bed. Also, a lamp by the bed would be nice, but not a deal breaker!’

Its a great deal, but you get what you pay for.The hosts were amazing, super nice and helpful.

The man at the front desk was about as professional as they come. He was ready for me when I walked in the door. Quick and clean. The only issue I had was there weren't any towels or wash clothes in the room.

The on-duty manager did everything in their power to make my stay comfortable. Missing was water cups.

Unfortunately due to traffic through El Paso, I arrive a little after midnight which I also didn’t know was a requirement, but at least after 30 minutes of calling Hotels.com for help I was told to knock on a door to get help. This was a little traumatic tbh. I just drove 10 hours and had another 10 hours the next day. I just wanted a clean safe bed for a few hours of rest. I thought I was going to have to sleep in the car in the parking lot. The wifi code shown in office didn’t work which was problematic since there was also poor cellular service and I needed internet to submit a work report before I could sleep. Fortunately I prepaid because the lady that checked me in said they had been hacked recently and unable to take cards. I did not expect luxury at this price but also I have never seen a room so bad. The headboard fell off the wall just from me lYing on the bed. The mattress was all torn and dirty (silver lining no bugs!) and there wasn’t even a proper sheet. The sink slow drained and I didn’t dare risk trying the shower. The fridge worked at least. Anyway I wouldn’t even bother normally to write a review so bad for a cheap place but the posting for this location made it seem WAYYYYY better and I just don’t want some else to have this experience. The lady that woke from sleep to give me room was nice at least.

The room was dirty and the windows didnt even lock didnt feel very safe in my room had a truck stop right across the way and alot of traffic and its in a dark area..not comfortable at all..the room made me feel like i was in prison

The Sands doesn't look like much as you pull in, but the rooms have updates and are clean. We have stayed several times, as it's one of the cheapest places in town and is a good value for travelers who don't mind funky/older places. We even like that the train tracks are right out back. When we hear the horn or feel the rumble, we walk out to see/feel the trains blowing through town. For coffee,tea, bevs, snacks and gas, there's a decent Love's literally across the street, and there's a nicer Pilot a half mile away.

The property was great for the price. Room was quiet even when the trains would pass behind the old motor inn. Never heard a train whistle until the next day after i checked out and was driving through town.

The location was ok the train would pass once in a while. The dinner was close no time when open or close. The shower had no light so had to leave a little bit of the curtain open so light can pass thru and lastly the only thing to eat there was the love travel center which had subway open 24/7 which helps for emergency needs....

When we arrived the parking lot was empty so that was the first worry that I had. The staff was attentive and nice.. unfortunately the bed has hair all over inside the sheets. There is no Outlets to charge anything. The TV is in horrible condition and the channels come in snowy and unwatchable. The only reason why we're saying is because it's the holiday season and really tough to find another room. I would not recommend anybody staying at this location till it's been renovated and updates are made. Also there is no smoke detector it's totally refusinlg. I haven't stayed in the hotel in this part of a condition in many many years I'm very disappointed
