Palazzo Castagna Boutique Hotel

The hotel and the room were beautiful and the staff was courteous. There was a wedding on the property during my stay, which limited access to most of the amenities, however all in all it was a really good experience. Accessing the hotel entrance after hours is tricky and I would recommend asking one of the staff members to provide a tutorial rather than relying on the printed instructions. if you want a nice, quiet, historic place to stay in that area of the island that is close to the airport, I recommend it. If you are looking for more hustle and bustle, I would recommend somewhere closer to the coast.

Lovely property. We booked an overnight due to the close proximity to the airport, but having stayed there wish we had booked longer. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Parking can be a bit of a lottery, but there was plenty of spaces in the surrounding area.

This hotel was clean, modern and luxurious. It is convenient for driving to airport and Valletta. My The hotel is not at all convenient for walking to any restaurants. My only criticism is that the hotel restaurant selections are very limited and as a vegetarian there were slim choices. This coupled with no restaurants in walking distance meant more driving. Otherwise we loved our room and found the inner courtyard to be very charming. Room was available early and staff were always lovely. Check out the underground pool, an incredibly unique feature!!

Palazzo Castagna is a beautiful property in the quiet village of Ghaxaq. The bedrooms are spotless with everything you need for for stay. The pool is well maintained, towels provided and a lovely pool bar. The staff are exemplary. Every single one goes out if their way to make your stay the best. Special mention to Sandeep. This is our 2nd stay here and we are returning in September. However, this stay has seen changes. Altho a full a la carte breakfast is shown on their website this is now a some what limited buffet style breakfast. Still good but disappointing compared to previous years. In addition, there is now a reduced service for food in the evening. Not sure why because their chef is an experienced, skillful man who in the past has prepared done fabulous meals for us. During our stay the hotel was full, yet, the pool bar was closed in the evening and no provision for food on several nights. This year the hotel has opened an underground cave pool. Lovely. but limited appeal and not providing any extra income fir the hotel. Feed and water your guests in the evening, every evening. Having said all that we will be vavk in September 😃

We were there for 9 days. The breakfast actually is good. But for a time of 9 days the menu is limited. There is no buffet (just fruit salad, Joghurt, honey, marmalade). But often misses deep plates for getting the fruits. You choose fixed plates from the menu. The waiters were very friendly, but I had every morning problems for telling them my wishes for my order, often ended in a mistake by ordering which let to get the wrong plates served. This was kind of annoying happened several times … also it happened that the plates went to the wrong tables. The minus Point is about the quiet long waiting time for the Breakfast. In average it was 30 minutes..:( the tea and drinks were empty till the plates came. There’s still a lot to improve for that breakfast situation for a 4 star hotel. The plates itself were very high quality decorated and high quality food. But the mentioned things above took the every day breakfast Fokus as I had to explain the waiter sometimes 3 times that I want to have this tea….there’s no service in the middle garden, just in the rooftop bar which is sparely visited. The pool on the roof is nice and with nice furniture but seems that Is not cleaned often due to the foggy water (sunscreen rest). The cleaning stuff is very friendly and do their job really great.

Spent two days here, very quiet town, very clean hotel with lovely caring staff. Roof top pool wonderful, with great views and cocktails. Ghaxaq is a quiet town with few dining out options, but if you’re looking for somewhere quiet away from the busyness of Valetta, highly recommend. Close to airport too.

This hotel is in a small village so it was nice to see locals not tourists. We didn’t have any issue finding parking on the street for our rental car. The staff was top notch! So friendly and helpful. It was nice to sightsee during the day and then go in the rooftop pool to cool off. Happy Hour each evening was a bonus. We ate at the rooftop one evening because we didn’t feel like going out. It was delish. I will say the bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on! Breakfast in the morning was very good and distance to the airport was a plus.

They were so pleasant and helpful, we asked if we could check in early, and although they made no promises, our room was ready upon arrival. Excellent staff, all around! Only difficult thing was finding parking, as the property does not have designated parking. Parking was on the street in the surrounding neighborhood.

The staff at our hotel were so attentive, polite and kind. They saw to our every need during our stay. The hotel is well positioned to explore Malta. The rooftop bar and pool were great and the food and drinks were lovely. A beautiful building in a super location with great architecture.

Rooms cleaned daily and bedding & towels changed as required. The best bed we have ever slept in.There is a mini bar and tea/coffee facilities. The restaurant, under the care of Sandeep & his team, offers an array of cereals, pastries, fruit etc & also offers a wide range of hot choices all tailored to your requirements. The roof terrace has a small but lovely pool with sun beds, umbrellas & towels. Reception staff are knowledgeable & can help with trip advice & dinner reservations. My husband & I would return in a heartbeat. The hotel is in the small town of Ghaxaq. The Church is metres away & has been there much longer than the hotel. As such, it and the local residents deserveMass is held daily & attended by the local residents. We also saw a wedding & funeral take place while there. During such occasions parking is restricted but there are lots of other places to park nearby & ample warnings given to move your car. The church also has an enthusiastic bell ringer which, for most people, adds to the charm of the holiday but could upset any overly sensitive guests! 😉

Was then told the restaurant was running a limited menu due to ‘menu changing’. There was pizza and pasta, neither of which I could eat being GF. We booked this hotel for proximity to the airport knowing there were no food options around but that they had a restaurant with an extensive menu. Instead we had to take a return taxi to a nearby town for dinner. The hot tub- buttons worn and 2 corners of keys not working (also no instructions). No covers for the outside furniture on terrace so when the rain stopped we couldn’t sit outside as all cushions were soaked. Breakfast was POOR. Far from what was expected. Receptionist although very polite, just didn’t seem to be able to identify or deal with any problems. Following an email asking what time we wanted to check in (and saying 1pm) we arrived at 2pm and the room was t ready. Having been in the crazy storms we were soaked through and told just to have a seat for an hour… an offer of a towel would’ve been appreciated! Lovely building and room- service sorely lacking , especially for the money.

Wir hatten ein großes komfortables Zimmer mit einem sehr geräumigen Badezimmer. TV, eigenen Balkon, Kühlschrank jeden 2. Tag frische Bettwäsche und Handtücher, alles in allem sehr sauber und ansprechend. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und interessiert, dass wir einen entspannten Aufenthalt hatten. Wir würden das Palazzo Castagna jederzeit wieder buchen.

Overall an excellent stay at the hotel castagna . Most of the staff was very helpful . To name a few , Nirosha, Chodan , Preet at the front desk gave us good tips about what to see around and which transport is best and more viable . At the rooftop bar Vishal was excellent , he went out of his way and took care and Deepak too was so nice . We were only disappointed with the breakfast situation, no savory options for vegetarians and when asked about substitute the non vegetarian to make it vegetarian, the choice was very poor . Would have loved some fresh salad , fresh fruit , fresh dried nuts and some cheeses which would have made it easier . Even when asked for cheese the quantity would be very very meager also something like croissants very simple and basic were not given when asked . The quality of the breakfast ingredients was not up to mark . When we did complain the attendant didn’t seem to care but when we asked to see the manager Adam he was very understanding and heard patiently yo our grievances and followed up beautifully by treating us to a wonderful dinner , drinks and desert of the best quality where in the chef also came and asked us whether we liked it and we were so happy . Also for packing us breakfast because we had to catch an early flight Adam made sure that we got lovely salad which was the best and very fresh with croissants and yogurt and a sweet . So the end of our stay was made very memorable and we would definitely visit castagna again .

Everything was perfect . A fantastic stay . The staff were so helpful and polite . Nothing was too much trouble . Was a wonderful relaxing stay . The room had everything. The rooftop pool was fabulous and breakfasts and dinner were excellent. Just enjoyed my stay so much . Definitely planning to return . Thank you to all the staff .

Beautiful boutique hotel with beautiful rooms and excellent service.

Had a lovely stay here. The hotel is located really close to the airport which helped us maximise our stay. The rooms are lovely and spacious and they have a nice small rooftop pool. All of the staff were so lovely and caring, but a special thank you to Nirosha, she was such a good vibe and so kind, helpful and fun. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A beautiful property with a lovely couryard, comfortable rooms, and friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood close to an excellent bus service. It is about 30 minutes from Valetta by bus, and the service is regular, frequent, reliable, and cheap.

Du début à la fin tout était top. Belle déco, tout refait à neuf avec goût, petit dej extra, personnel aux petits soins je recommande vivement. Situation pratique en taxi ou Uber tout est à quelques minutes : près de l’aéroport (sans le bruit!) près de La Valette

Restaurant and cafe in the hotel on the pricier side, but food was excellent. Ample street parking nearby. Recommended.

Wir haben den Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel sehr genossen. Palazzo Castagna liegt nah am Flughafen und am Fischerdorf Marsaxlokk, aber abseits aller anderen Hotspots der Insel. Das sorgt für erholsame Ruhe insbesondere in der Nacht. Das historische Gebäude wurde auf großartige Art und Weise saniert und ist optisch ein Traum. Besonderes Highlight ist der Pool in einer Höhle unter dem Haus. Noch großartiger sind der Service von Rezeption und Café/Restaurant. So viel freundliche Zuwendung habe ich selten in einem Hotel erwähnt. Die Zimmer sind groß und schön eingerichtet. Die Klimaanlage ist angenehm leise, Temperatur kann aber nicht eingestellt werden, nur an und aus. Fazit: Das Hotel würde ich allen, die mit Mietwagen auf Malta unterwegs sind, ohne Einschränkung empfehlen. Sehr passend aber auch, wenn man vor Abflug nah am Airport sein will.

Even when asked for cheese the quantity would be very very meager also something like croissants very simple and basic were not given when asked . The quality of the breakfast ingredients was not up to mark . When we did complain the attendant didn’t seem to care but when we asked to see the manager Adam he was very understanding and heard patiently yo our grievances and followed up beautifully by treating us to a wonderful dinner , drinks and desert of the best quality where in the chef also came and asked us whether we liked it and we were so happy . Also for packing us breakfast because we had to catch an early flight Adam made sure that we got lovely salad which was the best and very fresh with croissants and yogurt and a sweet . So the end of our stay was made very memorable and we would definitely visit castagna again .

This hotel is in a small village so it was nice to see locals not tourists. We didn’t have any issue finding parking on the street for our rental car. The staff was top notch! So friendly and helpful. It was nice to sightsee during the day and then go in the rooftop pool to cool off. Happy Hour each evening was a bonus. We ate at the rooftop one evening because we didn’t feel like going out. It was delish. I will say the bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on! Breakfast in the morning was very good and distance to the airport was a plus.

Everything was perfect . A fantastic stay . The staff were so helpful and polite . Nothing was too much trouble . Was a wonderful relaxing stay . The room had everything. The rooftop pool was fabulous and breakfasts and dinner were excellent. Just enjoyed my stay so much . Definitely planning to return . Thank you to all the staff .

The staff at our hotel were so attentive, polite and kind. They saw to our every need during our stay. The hotel is well positioned to explore Malta. The rooftop bar and pool were great and the food and drinks were lovely. A beautiful building in a super location with great architecture.
