Quiet place inspite of being located near major highway. Although room small it was nice and clean and very adequate for needs. Good continental breakfast. Easy 10 minute walk from New Street station. Only drawback was the narrow stairs - awkward to get suitcase up same.

Was a really lovely stay. The room was large and had everything we needed. Very comfy beds. Did get a little bit too hot but we just opened our windows. Was nice that there was a separate entrance without having to go through the pub and a key box to check out. Great location in my opinion, very close walk to everything. Would definitely stay again as was such good value for money. Was nice to have little amenities as well.

Adv: close to Birmingham center. Disadv: very small room, small bathroom, no bins, no lifts, no parking, can hear other person next door watching or speaking. Not for disabled people. No mich variety in breakfast too. If you stay alone, possibly a okay cheap one.

Good location and great value. Room was very small but very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there was nowhere to store bags or clothes which made it very difficult to get changed etc as the little floor space there was was taken up by our belongings. Could have done with just some hooks for coats at least, which there seemed to have been at one point but they were missing. Still a very good option if you need somewhere comfortable to sleep for the night. The included continental breakfast was decent and 10% off drinks at the bar was a nice touch too.

Grade 2 listed building so no double glazing to protect from the traffic noise Limited choice at break but all options were fresh and consistent. Awesome friendly & helpful staff Room clean with fresh towels and plentiful tea/ coffee supplies. Very basic hotel, not in great condition, rooms tiny and Buidling very tired looking, capets and public areas not well kept. No mattress protector on bed, just a sheet over the mattress, cracked mirror, tiles in bathroom, no where to hang clothes and old fashioned sash windows filthy dirty and hard to open. Positives: nice staff; friendly welcome and location good. £100 for a night was a lot for this room.

Key was not left in key box for late arrival but I was able to call the owner who came over 15 mins later with a key. Hallway smelled of cigarette smoke, walls marked with many scuff marks from suitcases, staircase bannister old and chipped paint. Bedroom window didn’t open so nowhere for bathroom steam to escape. Overall I didn’t feel unsafe, but didn’t feel comfortable.

Only stayed for one night for a gig at the O2. It’s perfectly placed for this venue, and a relatively short walk from Birmingham Central rail stations or coach station. Plus lots of nice restaurants and the Bullring Centre not far away. Room was adequate, comfortable and relatively quiet. Cleanliness was adequate in the room, the stairway leading up to the rooms was a bit shabby. The Continental breakfast was basic but again, adequate.

I’m a simple man. I just care about a clean/comfy bed and a clean bathroom and this hotel was 5 stars on that! Yeah the building might need a bit a TLC but again, the most important basics were covered in excellence. I have to repeat the bed was extremely comfortable. I’d stay again for sure.

Nowhere to hang any clothes! No wardrobe, rail or even a hook for a wet coat. Nothing. Very comfortable bed though. Not really a complaint, but don't expect too much from the 'free' breakfast. Great location for theatres, O2 and china town. Would definitely stay again.

A cramped and basic room above a pub at the edge of Birmingham city centre. It served its purpose as somewhere safe and dry to spend the night but it was very overpriced at £80 for just the one night. The bathroom is so cramped that a tall person might have considerable problems sitting down on the toilet given how close it is to the sink. The door between the stairs & the top floor corridor is a heavy fire door that makes an almighty bang when left to close on its own - not pleasant for whomever is in a room close to that door! A sign should be added to ask guests to close the door gently to avoid disturbing other guests. The main highlight of the hotel (aside from location) is the awesome shower which is really powerful.

Room not big enough to swing a cat, bed was a double and very comfortable but took up entire room. Everything clean if a little tired. Ancient windows let in all the noise from busy road outside, only bearable when incredibly drunk. Room cleaners shouting and wailing at each other in adjacent rooms from early in morning unbearable even when drunk

As I was only staying one night, it did the job. There was a nice shower and the bed was comfortable. However, a number of basic amenities were missing that would make it difficult to stay here longer then a day or two - for example, there wasn't a closet or anywhere to store your clothes. There also wasn't a mirror in the room, only the one above the sink but I couldn't use that to do my hair or check my outfit for the event I was there for so I had to buy a travel mirror. The room was also located directly on a busy road so there was quite a bit of noise - they did provide earplugs though so that was a nice touch. Overall, for the cost it just wasn't quite up to standard.

Good value hotel, cheapest I could find near the centre and really well located. Great Indian restaurant attached. Friendly staff, sports TV. Didn’t get to breakfast which is included. My room was tiny which I expected. What would have made it better is if the fixtures were all fixed to the wall - hooks, shelves, bathroom shelf and shower were all loose or hanging off - easily sorted one would think. TV didn’t work. However, I would return, the benefits outweigh the niggles and very affordable

I arrived at 2.40 and was told that I couldn't check in until 3( although whenever I've been anywhere else it's never been an issue). I was told that if I wanted to wait I'd have to buy a drink. As soon as 3pm came around the same person said are you ready to check in now. Just totally pointless making me wait for the sake of it. On the positive side,the bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast was a couple of slices of ham and cheese with a croissant but was ok

I needed an earlier check in as my concert tickets came through late which clashed with check in, but after explaining this i got access to my room early and it saved me missing out. Staff friendly and helpful. Outside was a noisy road but not terrible. Great shower, much needed after a sweaty gig and walk back.

Hallway smelled of cigarette smoke, walls marked with many scuff marks from suitcases, staircase bannister old and chipped paint. Bedroom window didn’t open so nowhere for bathroom steam to escape. Overall I didn’t feel unsafe, but didn’t feel comfortable.

Cheap and cheerful. Great value for money. Clean and comfortable with a decent continental breakfast. Cannot complain for the cost. Staff really friendly. Stairs to room really steep... So not good if you have mobility issues.

The woman who helped us check in was SOOOO lovely (unfortunately I forgot to get a name). The room was cozy, bathroom was nice, lovely shower. Also, very close to O2 academy and city center.

Quiet place inspite of being located near major highway. Although room small it was nice and clean and very adequate for needs. Good continental breakfast. Easy 10 minute walk from New Street station. Only drawback was the narrow stairs - awkward to get suitcase up same.

Only stayed for one night for a gig at the O2. It’s perfectly placed for this venue, and a relatively short walk from Birmingham Central rail stations or coach station. Plus lots of nice restaurants and the Bullring Centre not far away. Room was adequate, comfortable and relatively quiet. Cleanliness was adequate in the room, the stairway leading up to the rooms was a bit shabby. The Continental breakfast was basic but again, adequate.

Lovely place for what we needed. Close to centre but an Uber ride from the utilita arena. This place is basic but for thenprice is fine. Beware the road is BUSY and NOISY ALL night!!

Excellent central location. The rooms are small, but well equipped and comfortable. You should visit the Indian Cafe Racer downstairs whether you stay in the hotel or not!

I always try and stay at this wonderful hotel in a great location for walking to Hippodrome, Utilla and the Bullring. Very friendly staff and very clean rooms with everything you could need. We even had buffet breakfast great value for Money ! Thanks

Check-in was good; nice & easy. The member of staff checking us in was very friendly, welcoming & professional & gave great explanation of where to go, how to get in late-night & when breakfast was available. The problem with breakfast is that, tho it was a 'free extra' or included in the price, it was only available on the Saturday. On the Sunday, we went downstairs 30-60 minutes before it was due to finish, to be told by a member of staff that breakfast wasn't available & I'm not quite sure why; he rather snarkily said that we hadn't paid extra for breakfast. I think someone wasn't in that day or that the shopping for breakfast hadn't been done? I would understand if it was a full fried breakfast, but it was continental, with a couple cereals, croissants, yoghurts, bread & not much more - so I'm unsure why this was beyond them to provide! On the Monday, we went downstairs earlier than we had on the Sunday & the door between the hotel & pub was locked! We just finished packing & went to McDonald's. Room was fine, comfortable bed, good number of power points & well-functioning en-suite. We weren't bothered by excess light/sound & the temperature was fine. The steep stairs were a pain tho we should be fitter! The only problem was we had no wardrobe, or a rail, or even a coat hook to hang our clothes on! Not the end of the world to hang our suit bags over the chair, but a puzzling omission. All in all fairly decent for the price, but we’d probably not stay again.

Good location and great value. Room was very small but very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there was nowhere to store bags or clothes which made it very difficult to get changed etc as the little floor space there was was taken up by our belongings. Could have done with just some hooks for coats at least, which there seemed to have been at one point but they were missing. Still a very good option if you need somewhere comfortable to sleep for the night. The included continental breakfast was decent and 10% off drinks at the bar was a nice touch too.

Good value hotel, cheapest I could find near the centre and really well located. Great Indian restaurant attached. Friendly staff, sports TV. Didn’t get to breakfast which is included. My room was tiny which I expected. What would have made it better is if the fixtures were all fixed to the wall - hooks, shelves, bathroom shelf and shower were all loose or hanging off - easily sorted one would think. TV didn’t work. However, I would return, the benefits outweigh the niggles and very affordable

Initial entry shows the carpets a little grubby and scuff marks all up the walls as you climb the steep stairs. Uncomfortable 2nd bed in our room as it dipped on one side. Grade 2 listed building so no double glazing to protect from the traffic noise Limited choice at break but all options were fresh and consistent. Awesome friendly & helpful staff Room clean with fresh towels and plentiful tea/ coffee supplies. Indian restaurant attached comes highly recommended Our 3 night stay was fine for what we needed it for.

It’s just a couple of very small rooms above a pub, chef did not turn up for breakfast so we were not even able to access the dinning area and had to go and pay for breakfast elsewhere although our booking included breakfast. It’s located on the main road so forget the idea of sleeping at night.

Bar was very busy (not a problem), but no signage for hotel checkin and took ages to be seen. Bed was very small for a double, not much bigger than a large single - lucky we are 2 small adults because any bigger and wouldn't fit. We had clean towels but found dirty ones left in the bathroom. The shower door did not fully close across the shower cubicle so flooded the bathroom floor.

Really old pub and thought the room was gonna be poor but it actually surprised me. Clean and tidy . Of course a bit small but os a great valie for money. The lady who received me was fantadtic. A bit srressed as my room was not ready when arrived and at one point way after the check in time had passed already she dw ided to give me another room. Was really kind of her as she saw me really tired after 12 hr between driving and work. Tgamk you. Locatiion is fone as close to everything.

DISAPPOINTING - AVOID THIS HOTEL AND BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE I stayed at The Duke of Wellington Hotel in Birmingham for two nights, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. I HAD TO GIVE ONE STAR BECAUSE I CANT GIVE ANY LOWER I booked and paid extra for breakfast, yet no breakfast was provided. Paying additional money for a service that simply wasn’t delivered is unacceptable. They said they changed thir policy and emailed me, but that was a LIE. Email was sent to me on the night after I checked in, and after I complained. The room was also extremely dirty and poorly maintained. The sink was clogged, which made the bathroom even more unpleasant to use. I have photos showing the condition of the room and facilities, so this isn’t just a matter of personal preference — there was clearly a lack of proper cleanliness and maintenance. The whole place gave me a very run-down and unwelcoming impression, and I did not feel comfortable during my stay. What makes it even more frustrating is that I paid more than I would have paid for a Travelodge, yet the standard was nowhere near what I would expect for the price. Overall, I regret booking this hotel. Dirty tiny expensive rooms, a blocked sink, and a breakfast charge for something that wasn't provided — all while paying a relatively high price. I would not stay here again, and I strongly recommend checking my photos carefully before booking. Avoid this hotel at all costs no matter how they market it.

Lovely people, Ace location, and a clean bathroom.... Sadly that's where the praise stops. The accomodation area of the pub needs a good scrub and paint, particularly the rooms. The room was sparse with nowhere to hang anything and the bed needs replacing urgently. It's ultra soft which pushes you into the middle, where the springs attack you. I could barely get up to go into the shower in the morning and woke up feeling I'd been assaulted. Sorry, can't recommend.
