Das Hotel und das Zimmer ist sehr schön. Man hat einen super Blick auf das Meer, da man hoch am Hügel ist. Das rauffahren zum Hotel und parken ist ein bisschen challenging, was aber auf die gesamte Insel zutrifft ;) Das Frühstück war jeden Tag super lecker und wurde serviert. Das Personal ist sehr Kundenorientiert und immer freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich kann das Hotel für jeden weiterempfehlen, der entspannen möchte und etwas fernab vom Trubel seinen Urlaub genießen möchte

Without a doubt Calhetas best place to stay and eat. Small boutique hotel with high quality food, service, rooms/ houses and a cliff top location second to none. Staff provide attentive but not obtrusive service. Really lovely place to stay. Imagine sitting amidst the vines, fruit veg and flower garden by the lavender edged pool watching the sunset with wine from their own vines before sampling their Michelin type taster menu. Yep that’s Socalco.

Nous avions ete seduit par l endroit avec vue sur la mer, cependant 2 bemols: 1 : le parking ,tres peu de place et nous avons ete obliges de nous garer tout en bas de la côte, la remontee fut rude! 2: au prix des chambresnous aurio s aimé avoir un chagement de draps et de taies a mi sejour. Sinon le personnel est agreable et tres serviable .

Everything was top notch. The property is fantastic, our room was beautiful and very clean. The breakfast was wonderful. We stayed for dinner one evening and service and food was fantastic. Don’t hesitate to stay here. Our only challenge was navigating parking on a very steep hill - but this is true of many places on Madeira.

Socalco definitely surprised me. A place that is a bit harder to get to but it’s well worth it. The best part of the hotel is the fact that it’s also a mini-winery where they grow the grapes that makes the two local wines they offer. Breakfast is excellent with a samples of a lot of different things like cheese and deli plate, sour dough bread and eggs my way. Dinner options is also great with a selection of 3/4/6 course meal. Given Octavio Frietas is a Michelin star chef, his menu at Razao is equally as good. The farm to table concept is excellent and offer a lot of fresh ingredients. My all time favourite is the sour dough bread where you just can’t stop eating it. Only thing is that the area is hilly and finding parking close to the hotel may be difficult if you happen to get there on a night where there are a lot of restaurant goers.

Sehr schön, ideenreich und geschmackvoll an den Hang gebaut. Weinstöcke und Gemüseanbau für das Hotelrestaurant zwischen den Häusern. Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter! Phantastische Aussicht aufs Meer und die Bucht! Viel Privatsphäre an unserem Häuschen (Nr 8 Terrantez). Sehr gutes Frühstück und Essen im Restaurant. Man kann zu Fuß zum Badestrand und zum Hafen mit vielen Restaurants hinunterlaufen, für alles andere braucht man ein Auto. Unser Häuschen ist das am höchsten gelegenen, über hundert Stufen bis zum Frühstück! Für uns kein Problem, man sollte es aber bei der Entscheidung für eine Buchung wissen. Insgesamt waren wir sehr zufrieden mit unserem Aufenthalt und würden jederzeit wiederkommen und Socalco Nature auch weiterempfehlen!

You can also order drinks and snacks during the day if you are relaxing at the property. The room was perfect (cascata, room 10) very private with lovely views and everything you need. It was worrying driving up the road the first time as it is very steep and with a sheer drop off the edge of the car park and road but to be honest after one day driving in Madeira you are used to it!

Die Unterkunft und das Gelände sind super schön! Man kann an vielen Ecken neue Dinge entdecken. Zwischen den Weinreben befinden sich kleine angelegte Gärten und überall fließt Wasser. Das Personal ist super nett und immer hilfsbereit. Die Parkplätze sind, Madeira typisch, eng, aber wir konnten immer einen finden. Das Frühstück und Abendessen war sehr lecker und es blieben keine Wünsche offen. Das Apartment ist stilvoll, minimalistisch eingerichtet mit einer wunderschönen Regenwalddusche und einer (ziemlich) kleinen Kochecke. In den Apartment waren ein paar Haken und weitere Verstaumöglichkeiten schön gewesen. Auch der Tisch zum Essen war sehr knapp bemessen. Beim Kochkit haben wir ein Schneidebrett und ein Tuch zum Abtrocknen vermisst.

Pros: location, really calm, the views from the room over the vinewayrds and the sea. The pool and the amazing restaurant at a very decent price. Cons: no space to hang wet stuff when coming back from the pool or a hike, nothing dries out in the bathroom. The breakfast starts at 8am which is wayyyy too late when you want to hike and it's not buffet which makes it waste a lot of things and is not quick. The staff also should be able to make restaurants recommendations outside of tbe hotel.

Parking is a little tough

We stayed for 5 days in the Groto room and it was huge and well appointed. Would return! I was ill on the last day and we asked to check out as late as possible so I could recover, they did their best to help and we checked out 3 hours after time, thank you!

The entire property is beautiful, lined with gardens growing grapes, herbs, and vegetables under the scenery of a Madeiran coastal hill. Every corner of Socalco is tastefully decorated and the rooms have a clean and modern aesthetic that exudes comfort. The rooms boast views over the coast and breakfast is a true highlight, enjoyed on the terrace with a view over Calheta beach. Breakfast is also thoughtfully curated, with meats, cheeses, fruits, tea, coffee, and a cooked egg breakfast, all of exceptional quality. We were so pleased to stay here and we will absolutely return if we are back in Madeira. Treat yourself to even a few nights here, it's absolutely worth it!

Wir haben 9 Nächte in diesem wunderschönen Hotel verbracht und können es nur empfehlen! Positiv: Der Ausblick und die Zimmer sind wunderschön, ruhig und gut ausgestattet. Die Anlage ist naturnah und schön bepflanzt. Das Frühstück ist lecker, und das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Auf Nachfrage haben wir ein Kochset für die Küche erhalten, und für eine geplante Wanderung bekamen wir hilfreiche Tipps. Die Betten sind bequem, und in den Zimmern kann man den Ausblick genießen, ohne befürchten zu müssen, dass jemand hereinschaut. Zum Valentinstag gab es kostenlose Schokolade aus Funchal, und täglich wurde frischer Tee und Kaffee bereitgestellt. Verbesserungswürdig: Das Zimmer könnte mehr praktische Features wie Haken oder Handtuchhalter vertragen. Lüfter und Spülung im Badezimmer sind laut, und ein Handtuch zum Geschirr trocknen wäre praktisch. Trotz Angabe der Vorlieben bei der Ankunft gab es täglich Wurst und Bacon zum Frühstück, und pflanzliche Milch mussten wir nachfragen. Für vegane Gäste wäre eine vorherige Absprache mit dem Team ratsam. Wissenswertes: Die Zufahrt zum Hotelparkplatz ist steil und eng, was für ängstliche Fahrer eine Herausforderung darstellen könnte. Eine kostenlose Parkmöglichkeit gibt es unten, aber dann muss man bergauf gehen. Die Hotelanlage hat viele Stufen und Berge, was für Madeira typisch ist – definitiv nicht barrierefrei. Für uns war es ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt, und es fiel uns schwer zu gehen.

Our stay at Socalco Nature was truly unforgettable. The hotel is ideally located above the town to relax and enjoy the beautiful views. The rooms are welcoming, with lovely big windows to sit in and look out onto the vineyards. The staff are incredibly welcoming and go above and beyond to ensure you have the perfect stay. We didn't want to leave, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for relaxation, delicious food, and beautiful views.

The hotel room descriptions and rankings are misleading and exaggerated. This is not a 10 out of 10 property. The restaurant may be a 10 but accommodations are not. My room was listed and booked as a 1 bedroom premium room that sleeps 3. Anticipating the bed to be in its own room and a couch for the third person ( if needed) in a living area. The bed was separated from the kitchenette by a curtain and there was a narrow cushion on the kitchen window sill. No other living area seating. The desk was child size . This is not a “ one bedroom” by global standards. The rooms are small studios.The sq meters are omitted from all postings (shame on me for not asking!) There was no baggage service, which generally would be ok but we had to hand carry up 3- 4 flights of stairs along thin walkways in the sun. The parking is referred to as on site but it’s a hike up a significant hill. It is my opinion that a hotel with a 10/10 rating should have a baggage handler service and parking shuttle as a service. The photos of the pool size are lounge area are taken at an angle that make it look much larger and more spacious than it is. The service was noticeably different and better for young couples vs middle aged single fit female hikers. Unfortunately the room was just too small for 2 people ( non couple). We were told that no other rooms were available, so we lost our full prepayment for the 3 days. The photos and descriptions of the rooms remain misleading along with the 10/10 ranking.

We stayed in the cascades room. Absolutely beautiful . Breakfast on terrace with gorgeous fresh and delicious food. Everything here here is quality- food, service, craftsman furnishings and fittings, fabulous tended grounds. Loved our little Levada walk around the room to the river source. Everything so secluded. Views are incredible.

We had an incredible stay at Socalco! We stayed in the cave room and it was a beautiful and unique experience. The room was comfortable and the property grounds are gorgeous. We had an incredibly relaxing stay- a perfect retreat after hiking around the island. The staff gave excellent recommendations for places to explore. I highly recommend getting dinner at their restaurant. We ended up eating there both nights of our stay because we had such an incredible experience the first night. Everything is made fresh and includes food from their garden. Their is no menu, the chef changes what he makes daily.

Impeccable service, thoughtful and fresh food, beautifully designed rooms and property with stunning views

L’établissement est vraiment splendide, le personnel très attentionné, les extérieurs et les équipements sont excellent! Le dîner proposé le soir est bien travaillé, simple mais réalisé à la perfection, avec un serveur au top! Un soir nous avons voulu nous faire à manger nous même, le personnel nous a amené le matériel nécessaire ainsi qu’un panier de plantes aromatiques issu de leur propre jardin. En résumé, ce séjour vos le standing d’un 5 étoiles que nous avons fait sur madère également.

We stayed here three nights and found the staff friendly and helpful. We had an amazing view! The gardens are lovely and they grow right along the paths. We had a delicious dinner and the breakfast was wonderful. We could not make one breakfast and they packed us a picnic lunch which was wonderful. We would absolutely stay here again!

We had the most incredible stay. The views were fantastic from the hotel/room. The breakfast included was amazing, you need to have dinner at the restaurant. The staff at this hotel were incredible and made the stay even more special. We look forward to staying here again when we next visit Madeira.

We arrived to the hotel, checked in and the person who checked us in showed us the dining area and kitchen then apologized for the amount of stairs to our room. She wasnt kidding there were over 125+ stairs to our room. Midway she asked if we were ok and wanted to get our bags. We said we wanted to see where the room was first. Once we made it to.the room after, my husband and I are both in great shape and have been hiling all over portugal. The associate again apologized showed us the room and apologized for the minimalist room and left. I sat on the bed that was so hard and my husband said that there was no way he could carry our luggage from our two week stay up these stairs. There is no disclosure of how many stairs and there are no hand railings. He had shoulder surgery and couldnt physically do it without harming his shoulder. So we trecked back down to the office and told them ofnour problem, asked if they had anyone who could help us or if they had an alternative room. They said that they didnt have either. But we could carry minimal bags up to the room we had rented and once the room above the lobby opened the next day (where you could hear barking dogs and a lot of noise) which was a lessor catergory room. We could move there without help and without any adjustment in the rate and that was all they could offer us as they were sold out the night of our arrival and only had the one room the next day.We said that that didnt remedy carrying and the physical limitation.

Bestes Hotel, das wir jemals besucht haben. Wir waren so positiv überrascht und so glücklich, nicht in einem dieser Bunker abgestiegen zu sein. Socalco Nature ist wirklich das Beste Hotel, in dem wir jemals waren. Das Personal war durch die Bank weg, super freundlich, hilfsbereit und einfach super. Da gab es wirklich viele, bei denen man gesehen hat, sie brennen für den Job. Wir sind auch danach immer noch begeistert und würden es jederzeit wieder buchen. Die Lage ist traumhaft, wir hatten absolut unsere Ruhe und die Zimmer / Bungalows sind absolut einzigartig.

Cet endroit est un petit paradis !!! Isolé au sommet de la ville de Calheta avec la vue sur la plage. L’idée du repas surprise à tous les soirs est particulier mais intéressant et intriguant !!! Très bonne cuisine !!! Tout est parfait !!!

Fantastic stay, couldn’t have asked for more. Food was fantastic, we ate in the restaurant 4 out of 4 nights. Fresh, inventive and very tasty.

Cet endroit est un petit paradis !!! Isolé au sommet de la ville de Calheta avec la vue sur la plage. L’idée du repas surprise à tous les soirs est particulier mais intéressant et intriguant !!! Très bonne cuisine !!! Tout est parfait !!!

Sehr schönes kleines Hotel direkt am Strand von Calheta. Die Apartments sind genauso schön wie auf den Fotos und das Personal ist sehr sehr freundlich. Das Frühstück wird an den Platz gebracht, dabei gibt es jeden Tag exakt dasselbe. Wenn man mehrere Nächte dort bleiben möchte, sollte man sich darauf einstellen, dass es sehr eintönig werden kann. Beim Abendessen kann man zwischen einem 3-, 4- oder 5 Gänge Menü wählen, die Preise - vor allem für die Getränke - sind allerdings hoch und das Essen zwar lecker, allerdings in sehr angespannter ruhiger Atmosphäre. Zu den Zimmern muss man sehr viele Treppen zurücklegen, das ist gerade für ältere Personen mit schwerem Gepäck eine Herausforderung.

Beautifully clean and presented, 20 min walk into Calheta beach. Fantastic staff. Breakfast is freshly prepared daily and is delicious. They also have a restaurant for evening meals, and the food is good, but nothing mind blowing, we expected a bit more as it was offered as a ‘tasting menu’, but that’s the only downside. We stayed for 5 days in the Groto room and it was huge and well appointed. Would return! I was ill on the last day and we asked to check out as late as possible so I could recover, they did their best to help and we checked out 3 hours after time, thank you!

Socalco is a truly gorgeous accommodation for a unique stay in Calheta. The entire property is beautiful, lined with gardens growing grapes, herbs, and vegetables under the scenery of a Madeiran coastal hill. Every corner of Socalco is tastefully decorated and the rooms have a clean and modern aesthetic that exudes comfort. The rooms boast views over the coast and breakfast is a true highlight, enjoyed on the terrace with a view over Calheta beach. Breakfast is also thoughtfully curated, with meats, cheeses, fruits, tea, coffee, and a cooked egg breakfast, all of exceptional quality. We were so pleased to stay here and we will absolutely return if we are back in Madeira. Treat yourself to even a few nights here, it's absolutely worth it!
