The pub was lovely and served great food and drink options. The rooms were clean and comfortable, albeit fairly basic and in need of modernisation, but certainly no complaints given the room rate. The pub offers great value for money and is dog friendly. We used it as a stop of travelling south from Scotland and we will likely return.

Room 3 and stairwell to rooms in need of an update. Room 3 is looking very tired and the bathroom old fashioned and bland. Nowhere to put toiletries not even a toilet roll holder! Bed is set under the eaves so when sitting up in bed you bang your head I’m 5ft 4”. Poorly patched hole made by door handle and a dull blue wall colouring! Though handmade shortbread was delicious. Pub restaurant and breakfast area cold so food getting cold really quickly, my steak and ale pie was served with cold mash and a few token veg, with more crust than meat! Nice breakfast choice and shakshuka cooked to order so was red hot but only one egg which I thought a bit mean given the menu says eggs (plural) baked in tomatoes etc. would I stay again - maybe not until the rooms are modernised and the pub feels warmer. Though have to say the staff were friendly enough and there was plenty of space to park the car.

We stayed at this gem of a pub on the way to Scotland. The staff are all super friendly and helpful too. The pub has excellent quality food and wines too. My husband had the steak pie, I had the fish and Chips both were outstanding. We liked it so much we booked for the following week on our way back. They are really dog friendly too! There is a beautiful dog walk around the village. Also there is a field right off the car park which is fabulous to let your dog run loose. The breakfast was superb and nothing was too much trouble. Coffee was delicious too! Many Thanks The Tates.

Lovely pub with open fire was very welcoming and food (evening meal and breakfast) was brilliant. Our room was well equipped and the bed very comfortable. Very dog friendly with bowls ready and waiting in the room if needed.

Spent 2 nights at the Queens. It’s a small pub/hotel with 5 rooms. The rooms were comfortable nicely decorated and clean. The restaurant was comfortable and food was good. The pub had a nice wood fire and the staff were very friendly.

Bed linen was clean but had stains on them, did get manager to changes them, All paint work was marked & scruffy, Bathroom window had not seen paint for very long time,I am a decorator & i would be a shamed to let someone pay to stay here. Would not recommend this hotel to anybody.

This was an immaculately clean and comfortable stay. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating. The restaurant had a good choice and the chef clearly takes pride in his food- great quality and lots of choice. The breakfast included traditional ootions but also good quality food. We loved the location and would highly recommend the Queens for an overnight or longer stay. We also brought out dog and we were all made to feel very welcome.

The room was comfortable but needed a little maintenance (bathroom mirror hanging loosely, toilet roll holder loose). The small hallway and stairs to the rooms are in urgent need of refurbishment as they do not give a good impression (filthy carpets, dirty walls)

A lovely, clean place to stay. Had an evening meal which was absolutely delicious, beautifully cooked proper food. Hats off to the chefs. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, but not hovering all the time. I would definitely recommend The Queens to stay and/or eat.

Everything really good apart from the apalling service at breakfast. Extremely long wait and nothing ready by 0800. Eventuality got my breakfast after 0830 (and I was the first!!). Missed my first work appointment. All other residents were as equally annoyed as me with the shocking service!!

My husband had the steak pie, I had the fish and Chips both were outstanding. We liked it so much we booked for the following week on our way back. They are really dog friendly too! There is a beautiful dog walk around the village. Also there is a field right off the car park which is fabulous to let your dog run loose. The breakfast was superb and nothing was too much trouble. This was an immaculately clean and comfortable stay. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating. The restaurant had a good choice and the chef clearly takes pride in his food- great quality and lots of choice. The breakfast included traditional ootions but also good quality food. We loved the location and would highly recommend the Queens for an overnight or longer stay. We also brought out dog and we were all made to feel very welcome.

We had a one night stay on our way upto Scotland. Great location for some walking in the Eden Valley and Wetheral is a lovely village. Our room was fine and the food very good. The staff were excellent. Hotel is a little tired in places but have no other negative comments.

Really welcoming reception and friendly staff. The room was clean with good facilities and a really comfy bed! Evening meal in the bar was excellent. Full English breakfast cooked to order was also great. Highly recommend staying here.

Room 3 and stairwell to rooms in need of an update. Room 3 is looking very tired and the bathroom old fashioned and bland. Nowhere to put toiletries not even a toilet roll holder! Bed is set under the eaves so when sitting up in bed you bang your head I’m 5ft 4”. Poorly patched hole made by door handle and a dull blue wall colouring! Though handmade shortbread was delicious. Pub restaurant and breakfast area cold so food getting cold really quickly, my steak and ale pie was served with cold mash and a few token veg, with more crust than meat! Nice breakfast choice and shakshuka cooked to order so was red hot but only one egg which I thought a bit mean given the menu says eggs (plural) baked in tomatoes etc. would I stay again - maybe not until the rooms are modernised and the pub feels warmer. Though have to say the staff were friendly enough and there was plenty of space to park the car.

Everything really good apart from the apalling service at breakfast. Extremely long wait and nothing ready by 0800. Eventuality got my breakfast after 0830 (and I was the first!!). Missed my first work appointment. All other residents were as equally annoyed as me with the shocking service!!

My wife and I stayed here for one night to break up the journey to Dumfries. It’s a wonderful place to stay with very friendly staff and a great bar area with good ales on. We ate at the excellent restaurant and the food was home made and top notch. Rooms are lovely and cosy. Highly recommended

This hotel was a gem of a find. Just off the motorway at the central Carlisle junction. Nice countryside setting, with outside seating, lovely for a summers night overnight stay. Nice dinner menu, food was excellent, 2 course special offer. Bonus that their monthly quiz night was on, we didn’t win but it was a nice extra to start the evening. Breakfast included next morning, was extremely good value and cooked to order. The lady at breakfast (which may have been the owner, sorry didn’t catch her name), was very friendly and was genuinely interested in our stay/onward journey - we were the couple heading to Carfest at Silverstone 😀. Will definitely stay here again if looking for an overnight stopover/explore the area and would definitely recommend.
