We rented this place for eclipse viewing and it was the perfect landing spot for that purpose. Clean and with bed space for the whole group. Until the final week communication had been very responsive but we didn’t get the check in code until the day before, which made me nervous. And when I wrote to ask about more sheets the conversation stalled. (There were no more sheets). Check in time was late (5pm) so it was hard to run to get things. The unit had just the very basics. We had to wash dishes a lot because there were just enough glasses and plates for each meal. The towels were thin and small and one per person. We had to split up the sheets from the other beds to get enough bedding for the bed in the spare room. It didn’t seem like the duvet covers were clean so we took those off. There seemed to be only enough toilet paper for the group (though we ended up having to share some from one roll with the other bathroom). There wasn’t enough soap in the kitchen. Luckily we brought our own cards and board games. Salt and pepper were the only basics in the kitchen. Overall it felt like a bachelor pad with only the most basic amenities. For the money we paid my friends and family thought it was a little too sparse.

We did not receive check in information the day before our check in date which seemed odd. Called the homeowner the day of check in, no answer - left a message. Emailed homeowner through VRBO app, did not get a response for hour+. Reached out to VRBO, was told to contact the homeowner because they had not shared check in information with them yet either. Soon after hanging up with VRBO the homeowner texted that he had guests check out that morning and the house cleaner discovered a broken out window and a cracked window and he would try to get them fixed. He called 60min or so later and said that he couldn’t get them fixed and said I should cancel the reservation and ask for a refund. I assume this was a scam because we were well beyond the cancellation/refund period. The reservation was for a week that included Christmas. Very suspect that he had a guest that was checking out on Thursday, December 21 in Heath, TX. Possible but not likely. VRBO was not able to find a comparable rental and was not helpful in finding replacement accommodations. Was “disconnected” several times with VRBO agents, they don’t apparently enter notes in the VRBO system because I had to start over with VRBO each of the 4 times I had to call them. VRBO did not return calls as promised. Traveled 1000+ miles with family dog for a Christmas vacation but were left scrambling to find a family member that could accommodate us. Terrible experience.

The refrigerator was not clean . The yard & landscaping is embarrassing to the neighborhood . The back door was unlocked . Not being a Karen / Ken but you did ask. Hopefully you will do something with my review and make the next persons visit more enjoyable. Thank you. Marty
