Henlopen Oceanfront Hotel

Great property. Recently renovated rooms from what I heard & the rooms were very nice. Our bathroom had a tub and a shower, so that was nice to be able to both be able to shower at the same time. Parking is TIGHT! If you have a huge truck or SUV, don’t bring it. We JUST fit with a suburban. I saw trucks taking up 2 spots. Recommend a smaller car. NO pool, which I wish there was one, but not a huge deal. Right on the boardwalk, not the noisy area either, easy beach access and the rental places for umbrellas and chairs. Would potentially come again, the no pool on site is as really the only negative for us personally.

We really enjoyed our stay. The front desk people were so friendly and very helpful. We were able to check-in slightly early and park my car in the garage while waiting for the room to finish being ready. They had a changing area with shower so you can change and head to the beach while waiting for your room. Nice beverage area too with cold lemon/orange water along with teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Room was wonderful. The only drawback we found was our bed was a little firm (hard). Everything else was just perfect for our stay.

A three-night, late-summer stay. We arrived early to hit the beach and the hotel provided parking and expedited an earlier check-in to our room. There is no dining facility in the hotel but many options are within walking distance along the boardwalk which runs in front of the hotel.

Property located at the northern end of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk. There are no stores/restaurants within 1-2 block radius, which is nice if you want to have a quiet stay. At the same time, the main shopping/restaurant street is within 5-10 min walking. There are several entrances to the public beach in front of the hotel, and you can rent beach chairs/umbrellas for $10/$20 per day, respectively, from a number of stands on the beach. Hotel does not have any restaurants and amenities except for parking. There is a coffee/tea station in the lobby, and vending machines on each floor. Ocean view suite is huge, has two queen size beds and a pullout sofa. Two balconies and two A/C units, a small kitchenette (sink, refrigirator, microwave, and a coffee machine).

Location is great, although stairs-only from the boardwalk; a wheelchair-accessible path requires a trip around the back of the building. Very nice ocean-facing patio with rocking chairs. Room itself could use a little maintenance love, with a scratched-up floor and a heating/AC unit that was both noisy and had a hard time keeping the whole room cool on a mildly warm day. Room furnishings were a bit spartan, with one tiny desk and chair - no second chair, and certainly nothing comfortable to relax in. Door lock card reader was finicky and sometimes just failed to work despite a visit from maintenance. Coffee maker in room was nice but not resupplied during four day visit; housekeeping in general was minimal with one bar of soap for both shower and sink, also not resupplied. Wanted to tip housekeeping anyway at checkout, but front desk lacks the ability to add a tip to the bill.

Shop around to find hotels with extra. To expensive for not having what other hotels have, breakfast, gym, pool. View was limited but parking was included and location was good as well. Don’t plan to use this hotel again if I go back to this area.

The service was very friendly and attentive. Bathrooms are small. Location to the beach was perfect. I wish there was a pool and food.

This hotel is offers an affordable and quiet beach experience. Room was clean and convenient to the beach which is just steps away. There is no pool or restaurant avilable at this hotel however it is located on the boardwalk with many walkable dining choices. The door that adjoined our room to the next was thin and we were able to hear the people next door briefly. Loved the lobby coffee machine which offers many choices of beverages for free to guests.

Stayed here for the past five summers. Generally pretty clean and comfortable. This time the cleanliness was not up to par as the sink was never cleaned and was dirty. Also this was the first time I ever had an issue with noise. Unfortunately I could hear every word the people in the next room were saying. I had to turn up volume on tv just to drown them out. Never had that issue in previous years so maybe it was just a bad room

The only complaint is that I don't think my bed was changed prior to my stay. We did not go to the beach when we arrived, but my bed had sand in it as did the floor. the sand was not from the floor because I wore slipper socks in the room and took them off before I went to bed. The issue was addressed quickly when I informed the Manager. There was dust and tissues etc behind the bed that was not ours. Considering that the hotel was only open 1 week prior, it was not deep cleaned while it was closed.

The room was dirty. Floor was not swept and someone else's sock was under the dresser. A nice older woman came up and swept for us. Bathroom corners were dirty and a hair on the wall When I asked for extra pillows they brought them right up. A/c kept turning off. Convenient location - right on the beach and boardwalk, free parking. Close to bike rentals and Gordon's Pond Trail.

Our room was dirty. There was brown stuff splashed on the walls that was easily wipable. I dont know how cleaning service missed it. The sheets felt like sand paper. Or there was actually sand. They do not provide a waterproof shower curtain so it just gets saturated and nothing prevents the floor from a flood. A partial ocean view means you have to lean over the railing and tweek your head a certain way to see the ocean. We only stayed 2 hours and left. Needs serious attention.

Both night had weddings, it was pretty noisy when trying to sleep. Room was dusty and moldy in the shower.

Location was great. Cleanliness poor. Floors were slippery and room not clean.

This property is filthy. The room is outdated and the staff is rude and obnoxious. The room had mold in the corners of the tub and on the ceiling and the air conditioner had dust all over the filters. There was sand and food crumbs all over the floor. The furniture had a decent layer of dust on it. We had to call the housekeeping supervisor to come and clean the room all over again. We checked out the same night as we checked in and the hotel wouldn’t refund us any portion of our stay. They must really be that desperate for money.

We have been coming to the Henlopen Hotel every summer for well over 10 years. In recent years, they seemed to start sprucing up the hotel (new lobby floor, renovated oceanfront rooms, etc.). It's always been a great stay in an ideal location. However, this time when we showed up, our room was less than ideal. The sheets on the bed were dirty (there was a booger on the sheets near the head of the bed), there was black mold or mildew on the floor next to the bed, the toilet seat was broken/disconnected, and the rest of the room was just generally not as clean as it usually has been in the past. They did give us clean sheets when we asked for them. During our stay, it seemed as though the cleaning staff were overwhelmed as they didn't even get to our room on one of the days. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and welcoming and we'd like to go back again, but the general cleanliness of the rooms needs to improve and they probably need to fix some of the maintenance issues as well. Improvements I would make if I ran the hotel: 1. Make sure rooms have clean sheets. 2. Install showerheads with detachable shower wands. 3. Replace broken toilet seats. 4. Inspect rooms for cleanliness (clean up mildew/mold whenever present--that much mildew doesn't grow overnight). 5. Continue to renovate rooms as they had renovated the oceanfront rooms a few years ago.

Great location on the beach. About a 10 minute walk to shops and food which we liked. The room itself had horrible sound insulation. We could hear everything our neighbors and anyone passing by our room very clearly. The front desk staff when we checked in weren’t very friendly or welcoming.

First unit they assigned us had water leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom. Upon notifying the front desk, they called maintenance which I found quite peculiar, I expected them to move us to a new room first. Maintenance came and confirmed and suggested we get a new room. They assign us the unit right next to the leaky ceiling one. I asked if that was wise because it seemed ro me that if the ceiling was leaking, it wouldnt just be the kne room. Anywho...we went to the neighboring unit. At 1st glance, everything looked fine. We went to dinner, came back to water on the floor and the ceiling buckling from water. Back to front desk, this time we got a room on the floor below. From that point on, the stay was fine. The hotel is right on the beach - on the quiet side but walking distance to the action. I liked that they have vinyl flooring, hotel carpets can be gross. The unit was pretty clean but there were several pieces of stray hairs about the room. They advertise as queen sized beds but they are not, they are double. Overall, not my jam but for a lil weekend stay in October, it was fine. It's kind of weird...you enter the hotel lobby, go up via elevator but then when you get to the floor, its open, like you're outside so it feels like a motel. And the bathroom is really really small.

The hotel and staff were excellent however the bed/mattress was old and hard.

Excellent location on the end of the boardwalk, more quiet and less crowded. There is limited parking. The AC units in the room need replacing, they work but they are so loud it woke us up at night, in both our rooms

Ocean view great!!! Lovely room with lots of drawer space. Nice size table to eat and play games, good bathroom, sitting area with couch, and coffee table. Front Desk staff was very helpful. Comments/Suggestions: Toilet seat was a little too low. Light switch by the door did not work with any lamp. It would be nice to have a room safe. We had a lovely time and would recommend the hotel to others, and we would like to stay here again.

Loved access to the beach. However, bathroom was way too small. Somewhat disappointed in limited space and lack of seating in the room for 4 people.

Rude desk person who never called to tell us room was ready. Said she didn’t have time and was nasty. Door between rooms had a large gap at the bottom and it sounded as if they were in the same room at 5 am

Excellent off season value- staff is outstanding

The hotel was ok. Nothing special. The staff was disinterested in helping guests. They spent most of their time with their heads buried in the phones trying to avoid eye contact.

Great staff, clean rooms, walking distance to Rehoboth beach.

Our trip to Rehoboth was truly memorable as we celebrated our baby girl's 6-month milestone. We are delighted that we chose the Henlopen Oceanfront Hotel. Victoria and Alexander were exceptionally friendly, professional, and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile. The room was impeccably clean, which is very important to me, thanks to our housekeeper, Diana. We are grateful to the team for making us feel so welcome; we had a wonderful stay.

The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly. However, our toilet clogged and there was no one on staff to come fix it. We were allowed to use the office bathroom but I think if you have a hotel you should have an on call maintenance person for emergency situations.

The overall property was beautiful and the room lived up to expectations with a gorgeous ocean view. However, we had a problem with a leaking AC that was never addressed. We also found the that the front desk staff was extremely unwelcoming and lacked hospitality instincts and skills. Never a hello or good morning .. and when we questioned the AC after first time no response, the desk clerk was dismissive - and claimed that we were blaming her since no one had resolved the issue. For $600+ per night we expected better service.

Great location

This was a fine beach hotel. We got an ocean front room as it was a special occasion and it was worth the extra money for the view. As it was off season, things were slow. The room was quiet on the 3rd floor but when the boardwalk (immediately below) is crowded it might be louder. Sitting on the patio was marvelous and seeing the sunrise was as easy as opening the curtain. The rooms were simple and clean. We appreciated the refrigerator, coffee machine, microwave and the bathroom had been updated with plenty of hot water. The bed was big and comfortable. The hotel is a little dated. The ice machine had rust spots and some of the common areas were showing their age. I was surprised that the room didn't have carpet but some type of linoleum. This makes cleaning up sand easy but I'm just not used to an uncarpeted floor. Parking is included, and the front desk staff was helpful. I'd stay again.

Perfect location on the beach. Walking distance to all accommodations. The front desk staff was very helpful with providing directions and food options.

We had a nice time at this hotel. Right on the boardwalk and beach with free parking. At the end of the boardwalk so quiet and less busy. If you don't mind walking 10-15 mins to shops and restaurants, this is a great place to stay. I was hesitate with the bad reviews, but I had a great experience and am so glad I stayed. Will be back for sure! Great sunrises too!

Ocean front in north Rehoboth Beach. Super convenient to everything.

The Henlopen Hotel is a great place to stay -- on the north end of the boardwalk, so it's quiet at night, and it's got the 2nd floor courtyard, which provides guests with a fabulous ocean view even if you're staying in a room without a view. The staff were all fantastic. My only issue was the thin walls between adjoining rooms -- I could hear everything my neighbors said and did.

Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Ocean views from the balcony is the best! No food available at the hotel but your not far from all that is available on Rehoboth Avenue.

Check in/check was quick and easy. Room (2-Queen Studio) was spacious, including the bathroom w/ dual sinks and great shower water pressure. Location was nice on the north side of the boardwalk but not too many dining options right by the hotel. You have to walk down to main boardwalk area for dining, shopping. My one main gripe was the advertisement of a “Premium Ocean View” room, which was a side view of the ocean. For $400+ per night I thought I was getting a full oceanfront view. Was very disappointed with this…I take partial blame for not researching better, but still feel the hotel misrepresented “Premier Ocean View” when there is nothing premier about it

I loved that it was right on the beach and the boardwalk was amazing with so much to eat and good souvenir shopping. The hotel was a little run down and small. There was no workout room or pool nor was there a breakfast. For the price I was hoping for a little more than just a room with a tiny bathroom.

The location was perfect for what I was looking for. Having the coffee machine break in the lobby was an inconvenience, the closest coffee shop that opened early was quite a walk away!
